X1 Yoga Touchscreen and Pen Input not working

Q: X1 Yoga Touchscreen and Pen Input not working

Here is how the problem appeared:1. I received a new 20FQCTO1WW. First-time booted fine, touch and pen were working at this time.2. Repartitioned the drive and installed Windows (10 pro, the retail version)3. Installed wifi driver from Lenovo support page (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-...)4. Installed Lenovo System Update and used that to get all the drivers, etc. At this point device manager shows nothing missing, I see all touch screen, pen, Wacom device and all the things but touchpad and pen input doesn't register anything. I suspect firmware/driver issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just as a side note, touchscreen as well as brightness adjustment doesn't work out of the box on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, if anybody has ran into this and found solutions.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey everyone, I picked up my Yoga today, and I love it. However, about an hour ago the touchscreen went completely unresponsive. The last thing I remeber doing, before noticing the touchscreen becoming unresponsive, was installing the Android SDK. (Well, I ran the installer, but it didn't recognize JDK). So, here I am, with the touchscreen not functional at all. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried the "refresh" and that didn't work. I'm probably going to try the wipe/clean install option in a bit. I guess that would tell me for certain if it's a hardware problem or not. I'm really hoping this isn't a design flaw with the 360 hinge causing issues. I really like the laptop, and would rather not have to deal with hardware issues like this down the road. :/ I'll be calling support in the morning, but was hoping to get this resolved tonight if anyone has had a similar problem.  Thanks!

Hi,

perhaps that program just don´t work with WIN8?

Try a Windows system restore and restore it to a point before you tried installing Android SDK.

A few months ago I started experiencing problem with constant error of I2C HID driver on my Yoga 510-15ISK. I used to "solve it" by turning the driver off and on in device manager and it worked for some time. This week it said that "A request for the HID descriptor failed" (code 10) and I can't do anything with it. I tried to update and reinstall the driver, online Lenovo diagnostic, Windows troubleshooting with no luck. Is there anything else that I can do besides sending Yoga to service? Help, please! Windows 10 Home x64Intel i5-6200 2.3 GHz8GB RAM

Hi thereFew months ago I bought a Yoga 520, and I never had any problems with it. Mostly used it for work, and drawing with my wacom tablet. Tried the touch screen a few times, everything was fine. However, today I wanted to try drawing with my finger on the screen, and I realised the touch function of the touchscreen is not working. I always allow WIN10 to update itself, but since I'm not using the touch function regularly I couldn't say when it stopped working. What I've tried so far:Updated drivers, all of them. Checked Lenovo Vantage for new drivers, everything is the latest. Tried uninstalling the driver of the Wacom device from device manager. (btw in device manager, the wacom device has a yellow ! and on the Properties windows it says 'A request for the HID descriptor failed'.Again, installed every driver from Lenovo Support page I could. Tried basically everything suggested in the similar topics in this forum, and on Microsoft's page. Please tell me, you have something figured out other than 'reinstall your PC', because I don't think a notebook in this price range should be reinstalled after 3 months. Is it because a windows update? So should I wait for another update to fix this, or should I just bring it back to where I bought it?Thanks in advance, have a nice day.

Dear All, as many of you, I am also facing an issue with my new Lenovo Yoga 720 15'. Suddenly my Touchscreen is not working anymore. Of course, I tried to search a solution on the web, but until now, I was not lucky. Some of you mentioned; it's an HW issue, but some else also wrote, it's due to Windows 10 upgrade. Do we have more information now? Were you able to find a solution? At the moment I decided to contact Lenovo directly and let's see what they will tell me. Thank you so much in advance for your support

Hi all, I've seen a few other posts on this subject, but haven't noticed anything too recent.  I've run into an issue with my brand new Yoga 720 where my touch screen fails to work.  Upon opening device manager, I see that my Wacom Device has a little alert next to it.  The error reported by the device is: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)  A request for the HID descriptor failed." I have tried to reinstall the driver multiple times.  I've grabbed both the Lenovo and the Wacom versions of the driver with no success. I just got the machine today.  The touch screen did not work during the initial installation process, so I don't think the updates are what killed it (as reported elsewhere).  It's also not promising that things magically started to work again after some amount of time. I suppose I don't mind taking the laptop back, but it's otherwise such a nice little laptop (widespread issues with cheap display parts notwithstanding) that I'd really like to be able to hang on to it. Any assistance and / or updates on this problem would be appreciated!

I'm running windows 10, and suddenly my touchscreen stopped working. I checked in the device manager and the "HID compliant touch screen" was disconected. After trying to reinstall software, it was uninstalled and now the option does not even show up anymore. I reinstalled all lenovo drivers and im getting nothing. Windows has no idea its even there. Full disk format and a fresh copy of windows 10, and still nothing. This laptop has been through lenovo support again and again, the last time it went was kinda the last straw for me. :/ It's out of warranty now, but while it was in repair, other things on the computer were also damaged. Hence why it went back twice. But now suddenly the touch screen has stopped and I can't get a single response. Im hoping this is a driver malfunction somehow, but the touchscreen will not even show up in the device manager, not even under hidden devices. Any help?

Main issue im having is the keyboard is acting very bizzare. First keypress does not register when I start typing or after pressing the spacebar. shift keys and backspace are intermittent. for example, on this sentence i had to press the "f" key twice as well as press every letter twice after each press of the spacebar. Reinstalled drivers, system restore, malware scans all to no avail. i'd guess it's a hardware issue.now the touchscreen:does not work 99% of the time but randomly appears to. When it's not working windows tells me no touch is available for this display. Seems like a poor connection to me as well as I can't seem to find touch screen drivers. anyone have experience with this?

Hey there, I just bought a brand new Yoga 720 13IKB yesterday. Now I just configured Windows 10 and realized that the Touchscreen doesnt work. Like, at all. Which is funny, because it worked once, at the first screen of the Windows initialization, where I pressed "Next" on the touchscreen. After the whole procedure, when I got to the desktop, however, it ceased to work. In the device manager it says 'this device cannot start" (Code 10)'  on the 'Wacom Device'. It also has the yellow exclamation mark on it. So I assume, that's what causes the problem. I just don't know how to fix it, though. I'm absolutely out of ideas at this point. The list of things I've tried includes:- Deinstalling Wacom Drivers entirely- Reinstalling Wacom drivers, first time from Wacom directly, second time from Lenovo page- Installing every othe driver, including chipset drivers- Installing all availably Windows Updates- Installing newest Lenovo Firmware- Installing new BIOS (which didn't work since the newest BIOS was already on there)- Giving up and doing a complete factory reset, including reinstalling Windows 10 None of these things did anything. Even now, after the factory reset it still has the same issue and the same yellow excalamtion mark. What the hell. It has to be some driver issue, since the touchscreen itself worked (once).  So what am I supposed to do?? I can't even return my machine and request a new one, since the st... I recently bought a Yoga 520 from a local Lenovo's partner store. Everything worked fine, until I recently intalled the latest Windows update and restarted the device. I also enclosed the list of Update I installed until today (09/29). I had contacted the store where I bought the laptop and also consulted the local service center, but both of them couldn't resolve the issue. Some efforts I had tried:1. Accessed Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Device Manager > Human Interface Devices > HID Compliant Touch Screen. I had tried to: 1) disable and reenable it, and 2) uninstall it and restart the laptop, but none of them works (the touchscreen still does not detect touch input). 2. Downloaded and installed the latest Wacom Drive, including the Wacom Dual Touch driver. This also does not resolve the issue. 3. Downloaded and installed the latest NVIDIA and Intel HD's graphic card driver. Again, the touch screen is still not responding. 4. Accessed the Universal Serial Bus Controller > USB Root Hub (xCHI) > Properties > Power Management and disabled the "Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power". It still doesn't work. Some other conditions:1. The Lenovo's Wacom-powered pen works perfectly. The screen detects the digital input, but it does not detect hand/finger touch input.2. Doing full reset of Windows brings the touchscreen capability back. However, after Windows automatically downloaded and installed the forementioned ... Read more

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that touchscreen of your ThinkPad Yoga stopped responding.

Open Device Manager in control panel. Look for the option Human Interface Device. Under Human Interface Device, look for HID-compliant device. Right click on this option and choose Disable and then re-enable the same.

If the above said didn?t help, it could possibly be a hardware issue. I?m sure the Lenovo technical support can be of great assistance.

Regards,
Mithun.

This seems to happen whenever a Windows update goes out, and I have to wait for Lenovo to provide firmware/bios/driver updates that fix the problem.  I have to say that this recurring bad experience will weigh heavily into my next purchasing decision.  I paid a lot extra for a touchscreen that breaks with every Windows update, and the wait for a fix is often quite long. What is the ETA for this next round of fixes from Lenovo?

There has been some information collected on the issue. It appears there is an incompatibility with the touchscreen driver (from Wacom) and the latest Windows 10 Creator Update.  This thread has indicated that Lenovo is aware of the issue, but is waiting for Microsoft to release a patch. I will not mark this topic solved until they provide a working solution. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-720-Touchscreen-Not-Functional-Wacom-...

Dear all, yesterday the Windows 10 April update got installed. Before I could use the touchscreen and pen to scroll and click, e.g. open a PDF, use my fingers to scroll trought the pages (e.g. in Drawboard PDF), use the pen to write. Now, the fingers are sort of recognised: Just after logging in it seems to work, I can scroll through the explorer, change tabs in the browser, then after a bit this functionality disappears - partally. E.g. I can still minimize and maximise programs, but scrolling (mainly) doesn't work.It does e.g. in FoxitReader but not in Chrome. I can e.g. flick open the notification centre and when I try to click on something the feedback circle appears but the actual "click" doesn't "click" the button. Using the pen is a little bit better Note that right after a reboot I can e.g. open the notificatin centre of Windows and use touch to activate/deactivate the tablet mode (for example) - a few seconds later I can still side the notification centre open but clicking on e.g. "tablet mode" is no longer registered as a click while the touch feedback is shown on the display. It seems a bit as if some software is loaded in the first few seconds after logging in which intercepts the touch intput to some degree? I've  already tried to disable touch-and-hold as right-click (it looks a bit as if most programs would interpret touch as right-click straight away), I've also tried to update some drivers from the Lenovo homepage. Many thanks for ... HiHave been loving my Yoga 900 but the touchscreen has started acting up.  While it seems there are lots of issues with Yoga touchscreens I didn't find one quite like myne.I realised it works okay in laptop mode but as soon as the screen gets to about 100 to 120 degrees rotation - so before reaching the switch point to tablet mode - the touchscreen becomes unresponsive.  If rotate it back so it's 90 degrees or so then it starts working again.  If I boot with screen rotated then device manager has an exclamation mark for an I2C HID device, status says "This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID descriptor failed."  If boot with screen around 90 degrees then I see the touchscreen device running normally.Any ideas?I'm thinking maybe the ribbon cable could be the problem? How doable is opening up the display panel? Thanks for any thoughts!

After restart there was BSOD everytime I tried to start the system, and than the system restarted again, so is was impossible to get to the windows. The name of issue was SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (unspecified). I tried about 8 ways to find the way out of it, but nothing worked. So the only option was reinstall the windows. Originaly I had Win8.1+later upgrade to Win10. Soo, I reinstalled windows and this helped figured out this stuck system error. (I tried WIn8.1 and also Win10, because some next troubless showed up.)1) Touchscreen doesnt work - HID Compliant touch screen is not in device manager. Isn't also hidden or in other driver sections. Has anyone else had problems with their touchscreens?
At times I receive random touchscreen input, above and below the actual touch point. This renders the touchscreen unusable.
I noticed that when unplugging the AC adapter this issue is resolved, and at times stays 'fixed' when plugging it in again, although not always. I have yet to encounter the issue to occur without the laptop being plugged in.
This seems to be indicative of faulty HW. I also have other problems with the display, namely incorrect color presentations in mainly dark areas. Before, (with a new laptop) I needed a battery replacement because the battery was no longer recognized after just one week of usage. Possibly all of these are somehow related to a faulty unit?

I have an A530 that will not connect when using the PC input, but the HDMI out port works fine.  So I attempted to connect to an external monitor and it worked.  So I know the actual HDD is working and that the computer is running properly. I then took an HDMI cable and ran it from the HDMI out port to the HDMI in port and the screen is now receiving the signal from the PC. So now I know both the PC and the A530 screen are working. The PC is out of warranty. Any idea why this is happening?  I currently have an HDMI cable connecting the in/out ports and the computer works, but I'd like to go back to it just using the pc and have an available HDMI port.
