Preferred Solution: can no longer clear super cookies

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

Is there a way to completely delete all kind of cookies stored on the machine, including super cookies and any other kind of them?
If not, can reinstalling the OS (Windows 7) with formatting the C: drive, remove all of them?

Thanks.

That is pretty extreme just to clear cookies.

I can't vouch for all browsers, but IE and Opera can be setup to clear cookies every time you exit the browser. Opera allows you to manage cookies, so that only newer cookies are deleted.

On a personal note:
Once I noticed how many cookies were loaded just by logging into Techspot, I said the hell with trying to manage cookies. There was just to many of them, after viewing so few pages. It made finding cookies, you might want to keep very difficult.

So I don't know if it's

A. An issue with Firefox
B. An issue with Windows 8
C. An issue with my new laptop.

Out of 3 computers I regularly use, 2 on a daily basis and 1 on a weekly basis, this is the only computer that has issues where I have to clear my cache and cookies ATLEAST once per day. Otherwise certain websites don't fully load.
For example, I went to Hotmail.com just now, and it loaded a white page until I cleared my cache and cookies and it finally loaded properly.
Other websites like Gamefaqs will load, however everything will be a jumbled up mess, and no images/banners will have loaded properly.

Clearing my cache and cookies for the last hour always fixes it. Regardless of whether I have been to that website in the last hour or any website in the last hour.

Sometimes I have to clear my cache and cookies every 10 minutes, sometimes I only have to do it once per hour.
However I have yet to go 2 hours without having to clear my cache and cookies atleast once.

I can still return this computer if need be (though they'll give me a hassle for it). But this is something I would expect to be a software issue. Only I have no idea how to fix it :/

Also no I have not tried other browsers yet. I keep meaning to, but this is a laptop I use mostly at work so I haven't gotten around to it. Firefox is the only browser I've used as of yet.

Thanks in advance guys!

I noticed the other day that I was always being logged into my daughter's iGoogle page, even though I had logged her out and logged in under my account.

I would close the browser and then open it again and there it was back. I would log out and log back in under my account and it was fine until I restarted firefox my daugher's account was logged back in.

I have tried clearing my cache and all my cookies in firefox, but even though the box showing the cookies is empty, when I restart firefox they all come back! I have done this 5-6 times now and I am getting really frustrated.

Hi guys - thanks in advance for any help on this one.

I'm running XP home and am using IE8 and firefox as my browsers. For the last few days, websites have not been remembering my login details nor is google saving my preferences (although password protected sites with pop-up logins still work fine).

My first port of call was to go to control panel> internet options > security and check that cookies were enabled. To my surprise, the section about cookies is no longer there - it goes from active x straight to downloads (A to D) with nothing inbetween

I have uninstalled and reinstalled IE8, Java and XP SP3 but with no luck. I have run many spyware programmes (cleared some other rubbish up but not fixed this)

Since last week, none of my web browsers (IE, Firefox, Chrome) accept cookies. I went to check their respective settings, they are all set to accept cookies.

I own 2 other computers, they all allow me to go to my regular web sites and accept cookies.

Can anyone help me?

A:Cookies no longer accepted

Welcome to Seven Forums michouthefirst. When you say they will not accept cookies, why do you say this? Do you get an error message that cookies are not enabled? Are sites you sign into not saving login info?

The easiest "fix" might be to use a System Restore point from before the problem began

System Restore

Since the problem is with several browsers, we are looking for a common cause. Windows updates, Security programs, etc.

You can try booting to Safe Mode with Networking, and see if the issues you are encountering do not occur there.

Safe Mode

If the cookies work in Safe Mode, then I would try a clean start to see if something is conflicting

Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Let us know specifically what lets you know cookies are not being accepted.

I believe I have screwed up my computer.. hopefully I can explain exactly what problems I have created. first thing I brilliantly did was go to a site <hxxp://www.howtodothings.com/computers/a3415-how-to-make-your-computer-faster.html>
and followed the directions.. ran hijackthis and used their link to a hijackthis log analyzer .. it was still running slow and since I was on a roll already I deleted IE7 that I was currently using.. IE6 wouldn't work so I upgraded again to IE7... this morning after getting tired of everything so slow I decided to do a systems restore.. now IE will not work at all ( am using FireFox) when I click the IE icon it will automatically make a shortcut on the desktop. my virus protection program will not turn on and I have noticed that I have no volume control button on my task bar .. not that it matters but a few things are gone that I can't seem to get back unless I pull out my windows XP disk that I do not have. I have tried to do a windows update but that too will not work.. keeps insisting for the windows service pack Cd.. I hope that I have posted in the right spot.. any help would be appreciated.

I replaced my old laptop with a new HP all-in-one. I downloaded Super Anti-Spyare to the new machine. On the old computer, Super Anti-Spyware would find around 50 infections every day.

But the spyware has yet to detect one infection, after running it every day for a couple of weeks. Just as before, I run the updates and then the scan. Everything looks as it used to, but it finds zero infections. Does anyone have an idea what is going on here?

A:Super Anti-Spyware No Longer Detecting

If I were to guess, I'd say previously SAS was detecting a lot of cookies, and your new machine is a different OS, more secure, and those cookies are not making it onto the machine.

Be happy with 0 detections, or use a different scanner such as Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for a second opinion.

Anything more than that, I'd suggest you contact SAS or post in their support forums. http://forums.superantispyware.com/

I live in South Korea. The internet here is unbelievably fast. I've done 3 speed tests tonight, and the download speed averages between 20-40mbps, upload speed between 40-75mbps. However, when I try to watch streaming videos online, it's ridiculously slow. And it's not just one site. It seems to be all of them. Youtube, Comedy Central, BBC, and MSNBC have all been really slow. I notice it the most around 10:00-11:00pm here (only because that's when I come home from work), which is right at the same time most Americans are starting to go to work. Is it possible that the United States 9-5 workforce uses up so much bandwidth on their morning rounds through the internet that it could devastate my access to streaming video here?

A brief synopsis: The majority of videos I try loading require an obscenely long buffer time (upwards of 20 minutes for a 2 minute video). Not always, but usually. However, oftentimes YouTube will only buffer the first 20% or so of the video. So after I play it for a little bit, it inevitably catches up with the buffer and I have to wait again. Even video quality as low as 240p still sometimes takes an awfully long time to load.

Does anybody have any theories? I was able to watch the presidential debate earlier today live just fine (10am here, 7pm Denver time). Am I just trying to play videos at peak bandwidth times? Are there any ways around this? Could there be another explanation? This has been a rather consistent problem since I got i... Read more

Hi! I cannot use the "remember me" feature on sites such as Gmail, Facebook, Yahoo, online banking, etc. When attempting to log into online banking, I recieve the message that "session cookies are not enabled". I know how to enable cookies and have done so under Internet Options> Privacy> Advanced... I don't know if it's malware related, and nothing I've tried has picked it up or fixed it. Hello

I am interested in starting my own YouTube channel for gaming, comedy sketches, etc. I need to invest into customising/building a new PC including the hardware and software. I would need to be able to edit videos, play console and computer games with good graphics, and the ability to withstand the running of multiple programs at once.

Also is there any guideline as to the financial outlay I should anticipate.

I am not ashamed to admit to being an absolute newbie to this and do not know a lot of the lingo used.

If anyone could give me a basic guide on what I need to look for when buying and customising a gaming/video editing PC I would be very grateful.

Thanking you

We recently got 100Mb fibre optic broadband from Virgin Media, but it's been 2 days now and various speedtests report only 2-3Mbps. Other computers around the house get around 20Mbps (none have 100Mbps).

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron N5110, so it's not old, and I run both Linux and Windows 7 (dual boot) - neither OS gets more than 2-3Mbps. I've also tried moving to various spots around the house, to no avail.

I also tried downloading a large torrent (legal) with thousands of seeders to see how fast it would download, and it stuck at around 1Mbps, never any faster.

Why is this? If we're paying for 100Mbps, surely I should expect more than 3Mbps? Other computers on the same network get 10 times this so the issue is with my laptop?

Just recently got rid of spyware from this computer. It was running just fine. I downloaded spyware guard, snoopfree, & zone alarm on my system. Didn't seem to have any problems. I went out of town on Saturday and when I tried to use my computer on Sunday, it acted like it had crashed. I reset my monitor, first and a pop up floated on the screen that had something like no connection found. Then I rebooted my computer without any problems. No sign of the pop up that was floating around before. However, my internet connection browsers (IE & Mozilla) & Outlook Express have been extremely slow, sometimes taking over 5 minutes to load webpages. My email has sometimes stalled and had to start over again and I get 4 or 5 of the same email.
I uninstalled spyware guard, snoopfree, & zone alarm, hoping they were the cause of my slow internet connection. NO such luck. I called my service provider (cable connection) and they report there have been no problems with the connection in my area.

Thankyou for sorting out my Desk top. (From which I am writing this.)

Now, my office laptop has gone on strike. It is an HP Pavillion XP. I have already downloaded HihackThis and the Analyzer, to C:\ HJT, but I am not sure how to disable the 'system restore' to begin the log.

It was going slow before I took a short break, and yesterday, having taken an age to start up, it then kept sticking. At one point I timed it taking 3 mins to open the menu from 'Start' and then another 7 mins to open the 'Programme' menu!

I did an NAV Update- 3 times -as it would not install after downloading. So, I followed the Symantec site advice and downloaded the Intelligent Updater direct. Then I ran LiveUpdate again. I assumed the virus updates would be complete, but they ALL updated again. But, this time successfully. Then I did a scan, but all was OK. I noticed, however, that the laptop was working much better after this action, at least it IS working.

Recently, (before this) after failing to download SP2 on Dial-Up, the hard drive crashed. Welcome back to TSF...

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Ok, im having problems when i try to install Windows Xp pro. I been using it since it came and never had problems, but now after i decided to format my pc after been some time since my last format (also was acting kind of slugish), the typing cursor blinks super fast, the time clock on the desktop goes very fast too, each minutes goes as if it were seconds, when i do the ctrl+alt+del to see the cpu usage, its always at 100%, the light at the pc tower that shows when the hard disk is reading/writing blinks very fast, and if i try to double click an icon on the desktop nothing happens, the only way to open the icon or make it work is by right clicking on it. I even reformated hoping for the problem to be solved and still got the very same problem. I was forced to install a copy of Windows Me i happened to have on the mean time. Any ideas or any clue what could be wrong?

Good day

OS: Vista is infamous for its constant annoyance to the user. This is somewhat unlikely, but it could be Vista slowing you down. I recommend upgrading to Win7 regardless.

Processor: The processor seems alright, so you're not having troubles there.

RAM: You may want to consider a RAM upgrade, as many applications (including games) do tend to stick around in memory until a restart. I'd have to say the lack of RAM is your issue. It shouldn't take much more, maybe another 1GB-2GB should fix it up.

Graphics: Nice graphics card, by the way. Beats mine ._.
AntiVirus: Well, the fact that you're careful on the Internet does NOT protect you from viruses. Not at all. I strongly recommend installing Avast! Also, I recommend installing MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and give your computer a nice scan with both of them.

So my laptop is about a year old and aside from having to switch out a bad graphics card about a month ago, it's never had any real problems. This morning, though, I noticed my laptop didn't seem to be booting correctly. It would display the HP logo as always, then show a blinking cursor which just sat there. Normally, my laptop boots in a little under a minute, and that cursor is only onscreen for about 3 seconds. Now, the cursor remains for 2 minutes or so, after which the computer continues booting. Overall boot time is now 3 minutes or more. This last time I restarted it, the screen was totally blank for three minutes, after which the vista logo suddenly popped up followed by my desktop.

The other odd thing is that windows can no longer recognize my DVD/CD drive. It seems the same as always physically, at least as far as I can tell, but windows does not seem to know it's there; it's gone from both My Computer and device manager, and nothing happens when I insert a disc (even though it's set to autoplay.) The drive light still lights up and it still pops out like normal, however. I played a DVD on it just last night with no problems. Earlier that day I had burned a DVD, but that's something I do often and it's never posed any issues; the program I use is ConvertXtoDVD 3. It can't detect the drive either now.

I would assume these problems are connected somehow, since they both started at the same time; but I can't figure out how they're connected. I'm wondering if one cau... Read more

First things first, thanks to all who can help.....

I need to programmatically make some adjustments to the Internet Explorer security settings. Most of these settings I have found but there are a few I have not been able to get a clear exact location for in the registry. I will be using a .BAT file to make
the adjustments on 100+ PCs.

Here is what I am looking for.....

Under the "Internet  Properties" found in control panel, under the "Privacy" tab there is an "Advanced" option button. When I click on it I get an "Advance Privacy Settings" options box. On it are several settings.
The first setting, "Override automatic cookie handling" needs to be checked in order to access the other options. I can do that by adjusting the DWord value of "PrivacyAdvanced" under the "Internet Settings" key in the registry,
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet settings", to be specific.

What I have not been able to find are the registry entries for the "First-party Cookies" "Accept, Block, or Prompt" options, the "Third-party Cookies" "Accept, Block, or Prompt" options, and the "Always allow
session cookies" check box. Please see picture below....

I have seen references to the following settings as being where those options exist, but nothing that explains ... Read more

ok so my laptop's a few years old. It came with Windows 7 Home Basic. it still has it.

My question is that it take A LOT of time to boot. Heres what happens:

1. The starting windows doesn't take that long to disappear, im satisfied with it.
2. But the welcome screen, ugh, First it just displays the Welcome screen background without the 'welcome' text, only the loading circle. Then after a little while the 'welcome; text appears, this par takes a lot of time.

Then the desktop finally appears, but wait theres more!!!

The icons on the desktop appear as white pages (files) then one by one their respective images appear. Sometimes even after the desktop appears it wakes about 5-6 seconds for the login sound to be played.

I have a Intel core i3-2330M processor 2.20ghzz
With 4gigs of ram and 500Gb of harddisk space, which is filled more than 50 percent (about 210 gbs are available).

I've tried to defragment my harddisk, Use CCleaner, used MsConfig to disable a lot of startup rpograms and services and remove a few programs. I would like you to suggest some other software for 'cleaning' or 'optimizing' my harddisk, as i think that its filled way too much and that may be the cause.

OFF TOPIC: is it possible to remove everything from my harddisk 'except' Windows? Because i don't want to format my harddisk and then reinstall Windows.

Any tips and tricks are also welcomed.

I'd appreciate if someone could help me out here; I've looked for solutions to my problem, but found none.

One day, I'll decide to burn a DVD. A regular data disc, 4GB of files onto a DVD-R. I tell it to burn at 8x, and it's done in around 10 minutes. All good.

I'll burn 5-10 discs this way (sometimes hours or days apart) and everything'll be good, but then it starts to take longer and longer. It'll take 5 minutes before it even moves up to 1%, and then it goes on mostly normally from there. Then the next one'll take 8 minutes before it actually starts, and the next, 10 minutes, etc... And before you know it, it takes me an hour or even two to burn what took 10 minutes a week ago.

This is a problem that's persisted over two years, and over multiple installations of Windows XP and Windows 7. The drive is on a SATA2 port, not IDE. It isn't a question of overheating, or of the hard drive being saturated/overstressed. CPU usage is normal.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this before?

I'm running XP Home. For months my start up has been taking longer and longer. It initially started out taking 12 minutes, but it is up to 20 minutes now. It appears that after my Avast loads, the lag time occurs and then my sound icon appears in the task bar, then the freeze is over. However, whenever I do a boot-time scan with Avast, after the scan is done it starts up immediately. I've used Start Lite, and my start up menu is Avast and ctfmon.exe.

Thanks.

I have used Vista 64 Home Premium now for over a year. It seems that restarts take longer and longer after software is updated. Also, it now takes up to three restarts to get some of the icons back in the notification bar, such as the networking and sound ones.

What is it about Vista that makes these updates take so long and requires multifle restarts?

For those of you testing Windows 7, is it any better at restarts?

Hi,

Hope you guys can help.

Lately I've noticed that it is taking my PC longer and longer to fully boot-up after switching it on. It's af if there are loads of programs being loaded minutes after the desktop finally appears. When the desktop is on, the icons on the desktop dissappear and refresh numerous times and the 'egg timer' next to the pointer goes through a process vanishing a re-appearing as if there are lots of things going on in the background.

My PC was never this slow at starting up, what could be the problem? Time to get a new PC?

What info do you require in order for a diagnosis to take place?

Thanks,
