Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 3 stuck at the very end of fingerprint setup - Windows 10

Q: Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 3 stuck at the very end of fingerprint setup - Windows 10

Recently I reinstalled Windows 10 and now it seems like I cannot setup Fingerprint in Windows Hello anymore. I've tried to delete the fingerprint data from the [F1] Menu and the problem didn't go away. Seems like the sensor is not the problem because it still recognize my fingerprint till the last step, also it is certainly clean. This is a really frustrasting problem as I tried dozens of time. Anyone has a solution?Stuck at the last step

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I even activate the user admin account by using the cmd and enter the command net user admin /active:yes (something like that). After that the admin account was open. But still it prompted that error. What should I do to enroll my fingerprint? Please help me!!

I noticed the issue when I went to add a second. Some diagnosis forums suggested clearing saved fingerprints and starting over, but this didnt work and now I cant use the fingerprint reader at all...

Hello,Today I updated my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the latest drivers recommended by Lenovo Vantage program, as well as the latest Windows 10 Pro updates. After conducting those updates, I can no longer sign in using the Fingerprint sensor. When I open the Device Manager to check the status of the Biometric Device driver, it shows the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"The sign in option using the fingerprint does not even show up in the Windows settings for Sign In. Things I have already tried:1) Update the driver through the Device Manager 2) Download and reinstall the fingerpring driver from the Lenovo drivers website3) Reset fingerprint settings in the BIOS and making sure it is enabled4) Change configuration in "gpedit.msc" -> computer configuration -> administrative templates -> windows components -> biometrics -> allow the use of biometrics and allow users to log on using biometrics set to enabled None of the 4 attempts above solved the problem. Can anyone please provide any solution for this case? It looks like a lot of people have been experiencing this issue and no one from Lenovo provided a clear and definitive solution. The latest drivers must have bugs and, in my opinion, Lenovo must stop distributing them until this issue is fixed. Thank you very much.Best.

Hey everyone, Recently my cursor in Windows 10 has visually been stuck as the scroll cursor:This one. If I tap the middle scroll button it'll disappear for a second or two, but otherwise it's just stuck like that. I have tried reinstalling the Synaptics driver, updating everything, and from MS forum post tried adding UseScrollCursor to the registry, all to no avail.  I'm on Windows 10 64 Bit on a 5th Gen 2015 Kabylake X1 Carbon (20HR000HUS). Let me know any ideas! Thanks.

Are you using a trackpad or a mouse? If it's the trackpad, then I guess a a trackpad problem deep inside. If it's the mouse, then you might need to replace it. You can try to system restore point your laptop the time before your cursor stuck issue. See if it works.

Hello everyone, today I received my X1 carbon 6th gen. Upon setup, I couldn't complete the fingerprint scan and received the message that the device has disconnected. After the initial setup, I tried to complete the fingerprint scan again, but I only got the same message that the scanner was disconnected. I looked around online and found some forum posts about the uninstalling drivers and installing new ones. I followed all the information I found but to no luck. Maybe I was looking at the wrong drivers online or something. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone, so when starting my Thinkpad (~3 months old, Arch Linux) this morning, it installed a firmware (actually I don't remember anymore what kind of update it was exactly) update. After having updated, I could not boot anymore and just got stuck in the boot menu instead. The only available options were NVMe0 (my ssd) and PCI Lan. Choosing NVMe0 did not do anything, I just got send to the boot menu again. Choosing PCI Lan ended up starting the Intel booting agent (or whatever it's called) but in the end did not succeed either.I tried using 'Legacy only' as suggested in several other forums but that didn't work.I can however boot from USB and 'lsblk' also lists my SSD. Any idea how to recover without losing all my data ?

I seriously don't know where else to turn and could use some community knowledge. I have a new Carbon X1 Extreme that I purchased mainly to do some heavy Excel and Python lifting. (I work in Finance) Shortly after switching to this machine I noticed while calculating my workbooks the fans would no longer spin up and the utilization and speed were stuck at the rates below. (picture) I'm a pretty experienced PC builder and I've gone through every option in excel (Adv. options to set to multitask and use all logical processors), windows (process priority set to high, Affinity set to all logical processors, all power saving options turned off) and in the bios. (to disable intel's power states) No matter what I do this is what I get every time I calculate a workbook. Any thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.  (FYI office ambient temps are 72F and the computer gets more than adequate air flow.)

My Carbon X1 20bt is experiencing major problems with fingerprint reader and Windows 10. Everything was working fine with Windows 8.1 and the Lenovo software. After upgrading to 10, the Lenovo software was automatically deleted I guess because Windows 10 fully supports sign in with fingerprint. When I read my print in to Windows HELLo, it NEVER recognizes it when signing in. I have read it in to the system multiple times, but have never succeeded to log in with it. This problem has been existing for some time, but yesterday I was doing maintenance to my friends x240 and noticed her reader work without enabling Windows Hello. She didn?t have the pin installed for Hello and the reader worked just fine. On my X1, I have to put in the pin number to Hello or the whole reader is disabled. There was fingerprint reader driver update coming to x240 which I didn?t instal naturally. I tried to instal the 8.1 drivers back, but was unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated, this is anoying!

Hi guys, I have bought the education edition of the X1 without Windows being preinstalled and now I am not capable of installing Windows 7 Pro 64bit. The only option to install Windows 7 is via USB stick, for which I have created a bootable version with the Windows Tool and with a legitimate Windows iso file. But after starting the installation process, the message pops up that necessary drivers are missing, which I cannot locate on the USB stick and which I have no idea to find in the internet. Neither the Lenovo handbook is useful for this first time installation of Windows. Since I am searching the web now for 3 hours without success I am getting quite frustrated. Does anyone know the solution? Thanks in advance!

A:Installing Windows 7 64 bit on ThinkPad Carbon X1 ...

Hello and welcome,

What is the exact message?  If it's asking for a CD driver that can mean several things.  Usually a bad download or bad media or bad transfer of image to media.

It may be that your USB ports are in USB 3.0 mode and the Windows installer doesn't have drivers for that.  I'm not personally familiar with the X1... if it has a USB 2.0 port, try that.  There may be  a BIOS option to put the ports into 2.0 mode or perhaps "auto" mode that might help.  Another option is to connect via a USB 2.0 hub.

Are you installing in UEFI or legacy mode?  In UEFI mode you'll need to enable CSM support in BIOS - which may be explicit or may be automatic when you select the "not OS optimized" boot mode before loadingt defaults.  (The missing driver message doesn't sound like missing CSM support).

Just a few WAGs,
Z.

I am about to embark on a clean install of Windows 10 on my ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th. From what I have read online, I do not foresee any complications using the USB flash drive created by the Windows Media Creation Tool. What is the best way to install the drivers? One by one? Using Lenovo Vantage? Using Lenovo System Update 5? Scanning the machine at the Lenovo Support website? Any guidance and/or tips to accomplish a perfect clean install would be appreciated.

A:Clean Install of Windows 10 on a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th

If I still have a working system, I make sure my BIOS is correct before starting.  I always just install directly from the USB drive created by the media tool.  I choose a custom install and remove ALL partitions and install into unused space.  I then force MS to do all its updates and then I get Lenovo Vantage from the MS store.  I run Vantage to get the needed drivers.

It works when i start the computer but after a few minutes of scrolling up and down it does not work anymore.  The only way to have it function again is to either restart (which will again only work for a few minutes) or use a bluetooth mouse to uncheck and check the mouse settings for trackpoint which that too will work for a few minutes only. I've updated the bios and updated the driver. Still not stable. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Hi Guys, I am a former X301 owner, whom ventured back to Thinkpad and bought a X1 Carbon (G4, 16GB,i7,52GB, LTE, FHD) and I must say first impression is really good. It feels like a better X301 in terms of hardware, keyboard and so forth - not to mention the screen is leagues above the old X301 despite me choosing FHD over WQHD. So fundementals of the purchase are ticking all hardware boxes. However, here is the let down:- My laptop arrives with Win7 Pro with all the bells and whistles of an X model. I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

I recently purchased a refurbished Gen 2 X1 Carbon with Windows 10 Pro preinstalled by the refurbisher. Of course there's a problem with the hotkey fn+function bar. I rolled back the Lenovo OP power management driver from the August 2018 release to the November 2017 release (which seems to let the f1-f12 keys actually function) but the ability of clicking the fn key to change the bar layout was disabled the moment Windows 10 starts (but could switch during a reboot so the bar is working in bios...).  I've gained some limited functionality for the fn key by running the r0vu16e.exe installer with Windows 7 compability so the dirvers and associated files install locally. The installation program itself, however, freezes (Windows 10 claims it is incompatible with Windows 10 and recommends Windows 7). HOWEVER, I've found if I start the laptop and run the file "c:\drivers\hotkey\driver\tposd.exe" I can restore limited functionality to the fn key - I can now switch the bar from displaying the default function keys to displaying brightness, volume, search, microphone and webcam. While I'm happy enough with these two bars being displayed, I know the bar has other displays. Is there, in January 2019, an official or best way to get this bar working under Windows 10? Or should I rest on my wonky laurels?

Hello, I just recently performed the 26-Jul BIOS update to 1.14, for my Thinkpad Carbon X1 (20BS) with windows 10.The update went ok, but afterwards, Windows is crashing when booting. Using a bootable Windows 10 installation disk also crashes when booting. The recovery environment also crashes when booting. Using detailed logs, it seems to crash when activating the ACPI microcontroller. I would assume that has something to do with the UEFI update, that I have disabled in the BIOS.
