SSD Advice W530: Do i have to DeInstall the LENOVO W530 ExpressCache?

Q: SSD Advice W530: Do i have to DeInstall the LENOVO W530 ExpressCache?

I recently bought a Crucial MX500 2,5zoll 3D NAND SD 1 TB SATA_7mm _with 9,5 mm-Adapter_ThinkPad W530_Quad Core - Crucial DE; an exchanged it against The Lenovo buildt-in Drive0-HDD : TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 (1TByte=size as the SSD!), which went then, into the former DVD-bay via a Amazon.com- Nimitz 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for Lenovo W510 W520 W530- Computers & Accessories as now :HDD1. I did the OS Win7 prof_de_x64 cloning with the "Crucial Storage Executive"-program. All works well and a immense increase of bootspeed was recognized. Same with app-speed increase! Their way of OS-transfer is well described in some videoclips and worked fine. Question : Before this i used the LENOVO W530 ExpressCache Programm on the former buildt in HDD0 which is now the SSD. Does this program interfere with the SSD's own cache programm , activated via "Crucial Storage Executive"-program? Do i have to DeInstall the LENOVO W530 ExpressCache Programm ? best regards

Preferred Solution: SSD Advice W530: Do i have to DeInstall the LENOVO W530 ExpressCache?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

You should uninstall the ExpressCache software, as it is no longer needed if you are booting directly from a SSD.

Dear All, I am just configuring my Lenovo W530 now. I am definetely wanting to upgrade to SSD. However, I am unsure whether to configure it with a 128 ssd or an HDD to start with. When I talked to a few other people,  I was told that getting the HDD at SATA 3.0 Gb/s would make a faster SSD (say Samsung 830 or Vertex 4) run at a rate lower then its maxium capacity because the adaptors would not allow it.  Thus, I was going to get the 128gb SSD put in to start and upgrade the size to a 512 Samsung to get max speeds. Is this the right thing to do? Or should I save the money and just get the HDD. Would appreciate any help. Thank You

Hi jcyanksceo,

Thank your for your post and welcome to the commnuity. Choosing between HDD and SSD can be very tricky. I believe this all bils down to what you're really comfortable with really. Personally I do not have nor have I tested the SSD, simply because of the size it offers. Though I i do believe gradually the size will grow further and if i the size of the SSD fits the amount i need I'll definetly get one :-D.

However in regards to your question, as compared to the HDD to the SSD, based on the number of people i've spoken with alot of them prefer to have the SSD installed on their machine. Some even have an SSD and a HDD running side by side. A friend of mine has one installed on his machine and based on his review, he recommends it highly   because of these reason as he put puts it,

Faster boot up timeLoads within 30sec

Faster File SearchesSearches files 5X faster than the usual HDD

Faster file transfer timeAccording to my friend, Huge files seem to transfer 10 minutes faster than his old Hdd

Faster Application Loading

Increase performance in applicationAccording to him when he ran the Anti Virus, it didn't lag his machine and scanning was a breeze.

Reduce Power Consumption

Faster Video-Editing rendering

Light and portableDoes not put additionl weight to the machine.

I was looking for a post for my issues could only find one from 8 yrs ago, so ere goes...  I recently purchased a Duracell 9 cell battery for my W530, worked for months without a hitch, until I performed a system flash, now I get the "Battery not supported and will not charge message", So I returned the battery believing it was faulty back to Duracell who replaced it no questions ask, Normal Service resumed, now the message is back some 5 months later, only this time I returned the third party battery and purchase a GENUINE lenovo 9 cell which was double the price of the OEM battery, however the message remained. The battery is correct the part number has been indenified as correct by Lenovo, but the message remains. The Laptop when new would have been nearly $3,000 (Ģ2,500) when new, but now the warranty has expired. The machine works fine which its 2TB SSD and 32 GIG of ram running Windows 10 Pro. Laptop is just 4 year old would be a real shame to scrap it over a battery..., very sad! Can Anyone throw some light on this issue, and keep the conversation on track

I have a lenovo W530.   About 8 weeks ago it started having a problem that when I try to get it to sleep by just closing the lid, it doesn't.   The problem is not consistent, but it happening several times per week.   When I close the lid, it is usually because I'm packing my bags to go to another location.   The laptop remains powered on, the screen remains powered on, and then it gets SUPER hot.   Like can't touch the laptop with your hands without burning yourself hot. Since I couldn't figure out why sometimes it would sleep and sometimes it wouldn't, I thought maybe it wasn't "detecting" the lid close, so I decided to try to sleep it manually and THEN close the lid. Frequently, it just won't sleep.   I go to the start menu (Windows 7) and tell it to Sleep, and the screen goes black, but I continue to have the "Wireless activity" light lit solid and the "hard drive activity" light will flicker for a very long time.  It never sleeps.   Of course, at that point, I've also lost the ability to CANCEL the sleep and save my files and log out, etc.    Eventually, I either have to power off through holding the power button down until it "clicks". If I close the lid anyway, and put my laptop in my bag, it "superheats" and either the battery goes so low it hibernates, or it stays on, but when I open the lid again it has power-cycled and I have to enter my PGP Full Disk Encryption password to start up. Any sug... Hi community, I bought a W530 about 3 years ago for work modelling components using 3d software and it has served me excellently with no issues however I opened up my laptop last night and was greeted with the image below. https://m.imgur.com/gallery/q1Y7TMC I removed the keyboard to check that the connections were in tight and they appear to be so. 1) I start up the machine and the fan spins. The fan then stops and the screen looks like the attached image below. I completed some searches before posting this thread and couldn't see anything similar so I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this! Best Regards,Iain

Hi,

The attached dump is of the SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e) bugcheck. Essentially it indicates that a system thread generated an exception which the error handler did not catch. It's most commonly caused by a device driver bug, and in this case, your dump provided us with a driver! Not likely the one that caused it, but it's a clue and a start!

In my opinion it would make more sense to put the SSD in the internal bay and the HDD in the caddy, not the other way around.I

Reset BIOS Settings to default to remedy a display issue and when I booted back into windows, Wifi and USB were disabled completely along with many other services.  Lenovo chat support suggested they send me the original Windows 8 Pro disc and re-image, or I send it in for repair under the warranty.  Fiddled around some more and fixed the issue. On this model you have to Spam the "Enter" key at bootup to access the Startup Pause Menu and then Press F1 to enter BIOS.   Upon resetting the BIOS to it's defaults the I/O Ports were set to "Disabled".  To remedy this do the following:  BIOS >  Security Tab > I/O Port Access >  "Enable" all fields. This was the quick fix I was looking for and I ended up finding it out myself.  Hopefully, this can help someone else in the future.  I didn't think to look under the "Security" tab in BIOS for port, wifi, bluetooth issues... but now I know.  #KnowingIsHalfTheBattle.  Cheers. -Rahb

Currently have a Lenovo W530 that won't turn on. Right before the laptop "died" I was doing work and it was plugged in and then it suddenly just turned off. When I plug the laptop in the charging indicator light does not turn on (nor do any lights). Here is what I've attempted:Removed the battery and unplug from power and hold the power button for a minute to dissipate any charge that may remain. Then I just plug in the charger and try to turn the laptop back onPurchased a new battery chargerIn both cases nothing has changed, it seems like the laptop is just dead. My next attempt would be to replace the CMOS battery but I feel like I should be getting some sort of response from the charge being plugged in, regardless whether or not it needs a new CMOS battery. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hello 7Team,
I've been getting a high number of BSOD's when I dock my Lenovo W530 into it's Lenovo docking station.

Here are the steps I take to get the BSOD.

1. Laptop is SHUT DOWN at home office
2. Placed in Lenovo docking station in business office
3. Laptop is powered up from a COLD BOOT (no HIBERNATE, no SLEEP)
4. BSOD occurs sometimes before the LOGIN screeen appears, or about 45 seconds after login has been completed.

I've attached the ZIP that was generated from the DM collector. Hope to hear some insight to this ongoing issue.

Hi All,

I have a BSOD problem. I am using Lenovo W530/win7 64 bit with Blackmagic Ultrastudio SDI Video Capture card.
These blue screens happen at random. I guess it has to do with the capture card, as they always appeared while capturing video, plus Video Capture cards in general (and blackmagic cards specifically) are known to be sensitive.
On the other hand- the Laptop can capture video for hours with no problem. at the time of the blue screen temperature, CPU and RAM levels seem normal and no other programs are working.

I've attached the Dump. Thank you for your help & time !

You are correct, Blackmagic Ultrastudio SDI Video Capture drivers are causing issues.
You could try and update the drivers but I would recommend uninstalling the program completely and using a different video capturing program.

Hi Lenovo Community, I have a W530 and recently purchased a Lenovo 70+ 6 cell battery (FRU 45N1001 ASM 42N1001, 11S45N175048Z00068K2HV KC 2017.12.01) from eBay.  I fitted the battery and when I power up the system with the battery installed I get the following message "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge.  Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system.  Press the ESC key to continue." Q1. I thought that the 70+ and 70++ (9 cell) were the correct battery options for the W530--what did I miss? Q2. Ultimately I can charge this battery in the W510 I have and so is it possible to change something in the BIOS such that the system will power up without needing the ESC key to be pressed each time? Pete

But if I open Powerpoint or the "Windows Settings" app, I get very strange behavior. I'll use the word "focus" to indicate what happens when you click on a window: you changed the focus to that window. If the offending program is on my laptop screen and I click on it to change focus, or click elsewhere to change focus from it to another app, behavior is fine. But if the offending program's window is on my flat screen, changing focus to or from that program causes the screen to flicker: it blacks out and returns immediately. Other programs, including Word, Excel, Mozilla, Chrome, and Notepad++, no problem.  No flicker, behavior normal and as expected.I'm thinking that its a driver issue, as I'm using the nvidia driver and not the older lenovo driver.  Does the ultrabay have BIOS that can be upgraded?  Is there an ultrabay driver?  I suspect that its the nvidia driver. Anyone else ever experience this?Thx,Boz

Hello community,  you probably discussed this particular workstation and panel already over an over in the past. Actually I noticed that there seems to be some real expertise about the "AUO B156HW01 V.4" panel in this forum, so I eventually decided to sign up and now hope you can perhaps help me too.I am currently searching for a refurbished notebook around 600 Euro (700$) max and my main purpose for it will be photo editing and graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite) and in the future also some Cinema 4D and CAD. So a rather decent display with a high gamut is especially important for me. Of course my budget limits me there a bit, but I'd rather go for the best display than the most powerful machine within that budget. After some research I ended up taking a closer look at workstations, especially the Lenovo W series and the HP Elitebook. As the latter has the best display with the Dreamcolor option, it is unfortunately out of my budget anyway, so I researched more about Lenovos Workstations and ended up focusing on the W530 with the AUO B156HW01 V.4 Panel. This panel allegedly covers 95% of AdobeRGB and got a lot of praise in forums. But also some criticism (oversatured, red tint, hard to calibrate properly). So digging up more information about that display, I found out that the W520 uses it too, but I wondered that there were so many deviating display-test results between the W520 and the W530. They seem to handle and dis... Read more

Hi,I have in the past had a lot of problems with my Nvidia K2000M on my W530. Windows have kept disabling this due to "code 43" (Yellow triangle by the display driver).I have solved this by reinstalling Nvidia drivers, but when this happened every 3 days or so, I started to suspect something was wrong. And I believe I was right.... I tried to uninstall the driver (probably a mistake) before reinstalling the driver, but now the graphics card cannot be detected at all. When I try to install Nvidia drivers I get the following error message: "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". I also tried to disable optimus in BIOS, and enabled discrete graphics to try to force the computer to find the NVIDIA graphics card, but this obviously didnīt work. The computer then starts up with low graphcis and bad resolution. Under "Display adapters" in Device Manager there is no card detected at all (As the Intel integrated was disabled). So, is my NVIDIA graphics card defective, or is there som other solution to try to detect it? PS! I Also did a system update through Lenovos update center. Updated firmware in BIOS etc. This did not solve the problem..... Thanks,-ø

Yesterday, 07 August 2018, I replaced a non-backlit keyboard w/a backlit keyboard (English/US) FRU: 04Y0528. The keyboard worked until a few minutes later when "uncontrolled scrolling" occurred on everything that I tried to access. It scrolls to the bottom and also when I access any menu/program it scrolls up and down and/or scrolls to the bottom. All my updates are current both for Lenovo and Windows 10 Pro version 1803 build 17134.191. 1. I have turned off all "live tiles"2. Personalization, Colors, Auto pick an accent color from my background is NOT checked.3. I do not use a wireless mouse or external keyboard Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, I am currently using the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W with 2 x 1920x1080 displays @ 60Hz a display. I am doing so by connecting one of the monitors to the DVI-D output on the docking station and 1 to a USB to HDMI converter (I was having issues with the VGA for some reason). I also use the laptop display as a third screen in the setup. What I am looking to do is purchase 3 x 2560x1440 displays and have the docking station power all 3 of these @ 60Hz. I understand that I can only use 2 display ports to do this so I intent to add a USB32DPPRO to achieve this, however my question is will they all run @ 60Hz. I have found this link which confirms I can run 2 displays at the resolution I'm after, but it does not mention anything about the refresh rate. https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/migr-76767.  I'm just a little confisued as when you start looking at refresh rates on 4K for example, it says you can only run 1 screen @ 60Hz and if you add another screen the refresh rate drops to 30Hz for both. This is when used with the ThinkPad Workstation Dock 230W. More information here https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/acc100247. If anybody could help demistify this that would be great! I am using a NVIDIA Quardo K1000M as my GPU and the Inter(R) HD Graphics 4000 for the onbaord graphics. It's probably worth nothing that if I can get all 3 monitors to run @ 60Hz and 2560x1440 I would not need to use the laptop screen... Read more

Hey everyone, I think this is easily possible, but I wanted to confirm before pulling the trigger on another monitor. I currently am using my W530 with a Dell U2713H external monitor (2560x1440) and would like to add another one. Would the W530 be able to handle Mini DP to DP into the Dell U2713H and then DP out to DP in of a second Dell U2713H. I think this is a common daisychaining method, but wanted to confirm. Please share your setup if it is at all informative. Thanks for the help!

Hello,Anyone ever run into the case where Lenovo Thinkvantage System Update does not include newer drivers that can otherwise be found on the W530 Driver download page? I hapened to look at the Lenovo Security Advisory page the other day and noticed the following issues pointing to new drivers for the w530 (the severity on both are listed as "High"):LEN-15854:  NVIDIA GPU display driver contains multiple vulnerabilities in the kernel mode layer handlerCVE-2017-6251, CVE-2017-6252, CVE-2017-6253, CVE-2017-6254, CVE-2017-6255, CVE-2017-6256, CVE-2017-6257, CVE-2017-6258, CVE-2017-6259, CVE-2017-626009/21/201703/11/2018LEN-14587:  NVIDIA GPU Display driver contains multiple vulnerabilities in the kernel mode layer handlerCVE-2017-0341, CVE-2017-0342, CVE-2017-0343, CVE-2017-0344, CVE-2017-0345, CVE-2017-0346, CVE-2017-0347, CVE-2017-0348, CVE-2017-0349, CVE-2017-0350, CVE-2017-0351, CVE-2017-0352, CVE-2017-0353, CVE-2017-0354, CVE-2017-035507/27/201703/11/2018 But when I run System Update I am NOT presented with these updated driver to download. I would assume these should have been pushed out as "Critical" updates. Also, it looks like there were previous versions I did not get notifications on as well. A:W530 (Win7 64 bit): Lenovo System Update - Not Notified of Newer Nvdia Display Drivers

I run both my W530 (K1000m) and P70 (M3000M) in "discrete graphics" mode.  I have no use for Optimus/hybrid graphics mode on either machine as they are either always plugged into AC power or even if running on battery they can survive for 1-2 hours before being plugged in again.

So I have no use for the Lenovo graphics driver file either through System Update or simply by checking the download page.

I have been using the latest nVidia retail graphics driver forever, since getting both laptops.  It's actually the same download for both GPU's for both laptops.  I'm currently running the latest 391.03 in Win7 on both W530 and P70, as well as 391.03 in Win10 on P70.  I keep them up-to-date by force of habit, although I probably have no need to upgrade the driver at all.  Nevertheless, never had a problem using the nVidia driver.

Hello, I've had my w530 for a few months.  Everything was working fine until a windows update, followed by a Lenovo Critical update completion.  My hotkeys, camera and on screen display are non functional or only partially functional. What works:Fn+F4 (sleep)Fn+F8/F9 (Screen brightness)On screen notification of Screen Brightness change What doesn't work: Fn+F3  (lock - to be honest, I don't know what it locks anyways)Fn+F5 (bluetooth/wireless radios - there is an icon on the task bar which calls up the "on screen display for these)Fn+F6 (integrated camera)All other on screen displaysIntegrated camera is completely inop Unknown if functional:Fn+F7 (Projector) - There is not even any indication saying "You don't have a projector connected" or something Lenovo ThinkVantage (very hard to find, my older ThinkPads all had icons on desktop or start menu) says all my drivers are up to date.  Lenovo Service Center says no updates are needed. I downloaded the Hotkey Integration Driver per many other posts in the forum.  I am unsure as to what other drivers to download.   When trying to run Hotkey Integ Driver or Power Manager updates/driver, the install package insists on pointing to C:\non lenovo folder*\Camera or PWRManager or Hotkey\    Why?  Should they not point to the default locations for these updates? I have a client meeting (video call) tomorrow (Tuesday 28 August), I'll also need t... Hello, I own a Lenovo W530 (Machine Type 2438).After installing Windows 10 the Lenovo Solution Center recommended a battery update, which I did, but didnt work. Since that I had some problems with my BIOS, but they stopped (re-enter date) . About two weeks ago, my battery was empty and my laptop crashed. When restarting it my display didn`t work any more. I thought that my display / display cable broke (i had reordered a display a week before due to stripes on my lcd caused by dumb cleaning). After the new display didnt work I noticed that one cable of the intern display connection broke:so I ordered a new intern display connection  After installing it, it didnt work too and I observed, that I can connect and work via an external monitor problemless, but when trying to "duplicate" the laptop screen to the monitor it stays black, as the display does... What do you recommend?  Best regards!

I had to purchase a new hard drive due to disc failure warnings via the smart tests.
I had backed up my files on an external hard drive. When I purchased my laptop, I also purchased the Lenovo recovery disks.
I installed the new hard drive with little issue.I booted the computer up, no problems. It loaded the disc 1 of the recovery set.I answered the intro questions, it started the process and in less than a  minute I received the "Product Recovery: Recovery failed" message.
I checked the forums and I do not see a resolution. Maybe I missed it. The OS is Windows 7. Machine type: 2436Model: CTOBIOS: G5ETA6WW (2.66 )

Any help is appreciated.

I wonder if it isn't a windows licencing issue ? I am not if M$ are still supporting installs of Win7 and maybe something is failing there if you are online during the install. Also it will not install if the previous install was upgraded to Win 10 during the period when it was offered for free.Just throwing some possibilities around.

My product has developed numerous problems 61 months after buying. Starting from display, finger-print sensor and hard disk drive etc., there have been numerous issues in recent times.  Therefore, it requires a thorough professional servicing.  To that aim, I would like to know if I might send the device to any service centre in United States since none of the service centres in Kolkata has either shown any interest or displayed a professional approach to address the issue.  Also, if yes, could you please suggest any top-rated service centre in U.S. for this purpose?  Thanks in advance!
