I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to use the Windows 2000 Fax Service. I can send a fax but can not receive. When I make a voice call to the fax number I just hear the ring tone but no modem answer. The modem is an Intel HaM Data, fax Voice.

With BitWare installed I can send & receive.

The only reason to use the Win 2000 offering is that my other software, CA Bitware, and Symantec TalkWorks dont seem to be compatible with my HP 1444C scanner - or at least they don't appear in the scanners "send to" choices. Help appreciated.

Hi,
Could anyone advise me please on how to set up my modem to return NU (number unobtainable, 800 cycles tone) to incoming calls using a normal pstn line (UK)
My set up is:
A Dell Dimension desktop pc, using Windows XP pro, with a lucent win modem, on port com3. (It works perfectly.) i.e.

When someone dials in calling my phone number, which is plugged into the Dell internal modem, I would like the call(s) to be answered with the NU tone, - which I already have on the computer as a wav. file.

Please could someone advise me on how to set this up please?

Many thanks. jt

First let me say I am in awe of all of you guys! I am glad there are no stupid questions because believe me I will have a lot of those to pose to all. I am a 50+ grandma just learning about this computer age we are living in. Now for my first question: I need to know a way to not miss incoming phone calls.I thought if I had call waiting and someone tried to call me if would knock me off the net and the phone would ring so I could take the call. ( I volunteer at a shelter this is what happens when a call comes in there and I am online) I know you all will think I am nuts but this is what I want to happen! I don't mind getting knocked offline when someone is trying to call me. I would rather not have to pay extra for an internet answering service. I went in to my configuration setting for my dial up service to manage locations then to properties the disable call waiting is not checked but it still does not knock me offline when a call is made to our home. I have to do something to allow the calls to come in my hubby is Director of Property Operations for a large casino and he is having fits about missing calls. Anyone calling before got a busy signal since I had call waiting added all they hear is ringing but it does not knock me offline . Anyone have suggestion

Thanks Guys Littlebit Hello? Hello? anybody out there PLEASE SOME HELP PLEASE LOL

Hi,

You must have a v.92 compliant modem and then caller ID and Call Waiting......and, the most important, you must ask your phone company to enable (is a free service if you have ID and Waiting) Call Waiting Caller ID which is different than the first ones I mentioned. Then, it should work if you have the latest drivers.

Hi,
I'm using an Asuscom 128K ISDN adapter on a win2k pro system. I would like to exploit the dynamic feature of the connection, which allows a choice of 64 and 128 k connection, meaning BOD.
When I configured the adapter for a BOD option, my internet connection, meaning the digital connection acted as wished. However, my analog phone has been downed whenever a 128 k was established. I wrote to Asus support and the answer I got was that "The BOD function only for those incoming or outgoing by the internal ISDN adapter."
Can anything be done about this limitation? Is the a way to instruct the adapter to release a line whenever a request for such line is initiated through the analog line?

But when the other users of that same network do video call me, I just see the sign of an up arrow that keeps moving (the usual sign that there is an upcoming call), but the video call window of the incoming call never displays. Eventually, the incoming call is dropped because I can't pick it up. Thanks for your help

I don't have a lot of faith that this will change much, but, well - posting anyway.
I would love to know what is going on with the issue of customer information apparently being stolen from their support centers - it has gotten to the point now where multiple times a month (and basically everytime I put in a repair claim) at work, like clockwork I get multiple calls from people claiming to be with Dell (and spoofing Dell phone # on caller ID), and either saying there's a problem with the repair or that one of the laptops I support is "sending malicious files" or other somesuch garbage and they need to remote in.
These scammers always have my real name, as well as accurate up-to-date dispatch numbers & service tags for my organization, so again, there is obviously some constant information theft going on here - what is Dell doing about this at this point? It's pretty clear that security has been breached in a big way, either from outside or disgruntled employees.

A:When a stranger calls

If you have "call waiting" service on your phoneline, then yes it could be someone ringing you.
The "call waiting" service puts beeps on the line to let you know another call is waiting. Your modem would see the beeps as interference and drop the connection.

The call that was waiting may then pick up the line (unsure how Telstra configure their system). Perhaps the caller is tired of waiting by then?

There is a code you can enter into your modem configuration to deactivate call waiting for just that session.

Guys,

Just setup on MSN so my son can get to talk to his friends via voice and a webcam. I have noticed (and he has complained) that the sound quality of voice over IP is awful. You can hardly make any sense at all of incoming voice making it virtually impossible to hold a conversation.

I understand that calls directly over the internet are not of the same quality as pure voice calls via a telephone handset/telephone service provider but there has to be better than this.

Is there anything I can do to improve the quality of voice over IP via MSN? Are there any settings/options that can be tweaked to improve things?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

I've been thinking about this, and wondering about how and ways of doing it.

Taping a phone conversation. Maybe using the computer and software? (I have CDex, which tapes cassettes, through the mic jack)

I don't need this now, but the subject came up a few weeks ago, when an auto parts dealer (in another state) who ripped us off ($495- for a transmission) called me and screamed at me, swearing and threatening. Because we had emailed them and asked about a refund. I have Caller ID and didn't have to answer it, but at the time thought they wanted to talk about returning the money.

I talked to people after, who said "if they call again tape the conversation".

I've checked and in my state, there aren't any direct laws against recording conversations without telling the other party.

I don't even plan to do this, and anytime I did, it would be mainly for my own knowledge (like to replay and see just WHAT the person had said).

Had we taped the original conversations with the auto parts yard (which had been found online from an auto parts find websie, but the details had been agreed to on the phone) we'd have the proof they said when they'd ship it, and we'd get it (they later denied and stalled off).

Anyway, I'm trying to think of how it could be done. Cheaply (LOL) I'm thinking I can use CDex, the same, but how do I hook it up to the phone for possible taping? I think there are patches- that can be put on the r... Read more

It has been a long time i didn't worry about malware, i even don't care now doing safe surfing, they just cant get into my machine, and even if they do, they can't even do anything ( any suspicious behavior is blocked/isolated right away) and even they miraculously manage to infect me, it takes me around 10sec to revert to a clean system; no wasted time about cleaning.

Whenever we dial out with another phone or another computer on the line, the fax monitor pops up and the phone rings through the computer. This is a problem when the other computer on the line attempts to call our ISP as the fax program prevents the connection from being made. I used Microsoft fax on my old laptop with Win 2000 with no problems. Fax Console never reacted to outgoing calls. What should I do to make it work for XP?
