Preferred Solution: video out to TV acting strange.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I woke up this morning and found what looked like a friend trying to send me a pic on Windows Live Messenger. I tried to open the pick but could not. later I was playing a game and it would go into pause mode every few minutes. then I started getting a window popping up titled Audio and Video Setup. I clicked cancel but it continues coming back. I am afraid to restart my PC in case that makes something take off. You guys have helped me before. Sorry if I am in the wrong section.

I would recommend running an antivirus scan (download avira if you dont have one), also run a spybot search and destroy if you have it, check to see if anything unusual comes up.

Hello all -

PC info:
I have had my Toshiba Satellite Laptop A105-S4211 since August 2006. The OS is Windows XP. My anti-virus software is McAfee. I occasionally run the following programs: HijackThis, AdAware, Spybot search and destroy, SUPERantispyware, and Rogue remover. There is another program I've run once that took a snapshot of all the processes running in the background - I can't remember the name of it, though, and can't seem to find it on my PC.

The Problem(s):
My computer always seems to have something going on in the background. It has become increasingly sluggish. McAfee seems to always be installing something and scanning - but never finds anything wrong. When I open windows like the Task Manager, the buttons are strangely outlined in white and when I place the cursor over them, they turn completely white - they didn't do this when I first got the machine. When I open Firefox, it seems that every other time it opens as if I had just installed it - all my bookmarks, customizations, even my homepage are gone. Firefox will not run ActiveX control (for use with Facebook), and will freeze up and shut down when trying to work on certain websites where uploading photos/files is involved.

I realize that these are all very generalized and generic issues...but they have been going on for a while (over a year) and seem to be slowly getting worse. I do not shut my machine down very often (I usually just close the screen for the night), but when I do ... Read more

I posted this right before Christmas but no one looked at it until the 1st and then it got closed so here goes again.

I've noticed that about every 15 minutes or so I will hear a sound across my speakers like the power has been turned on (the PC is on at this time and it happens whether the screensaver has come on or not) and then I hear three bongs like something has connected via USB, disconnected, and then connected again. I started having some weird issues right after I began noticing this. First, when I run my antivirus (The Shield) it takes a really long time to scan. This isnt that weird because it took a while before (like a day because of so many files) but it's now taking more like 5 or 6 days. A couple of times I turned on my monitor and got a message saying that The Shield had been unloaded (I have no clue what this means) and that I needed to contact tech support. I then had to close the program from the toolbar and reopen it at which time it booted and began scanning only to be "unloaded" again the next morning when I turned the monitor on. Later that same day, I came in and all there was was a black screen with the mouse. I could move the mouse but there was no desktop. I rebooted and it did the same thing so I rebooted into safe mode. It came up in safe mode and worked so I rebooted into regular windows and that worked. Since then I've had no other issues other than the USB bong thing every 15 minutes or so. Any help or insight you can ... Read more

Did you follow these steps to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 so you know you have the best install possible? If not I'd do it over deleting all partitions during the reinstall.

Be sure to read the Special Note to HP Owners at the end that will show you how to preserve the onboard Diagnostics triggered by the ESC key, if it will still run. Now would be a good time to try and run it.

Otherwise work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

hey guys,

my pc, on microsoft vista is acting really really strange lately.
When i turn it on, first of all it sounds like a vacuum and it didnt do that weeks ago, only when i opened up big programs. second of all i keep getting bsod's so thats pretty nasty too. Also when i start up it keeps giving me messages about something with SympSys tray or something. And I keep getting messages that programs don't work anymore and should be closed. this is really bad and it used to be a very fast pc but slowed down massively. i deleted alot of big files and have more than half of my HDD left so i don't think thats the problem.

cheers,
Odolwa

Hello all.

I'm just about at the end of my tether here! Just bought a new PC which I built myself.

I was running Windows 2000 on it until my copy of XP arrived today. Of course I was very exited as this is meant to be the best!

I installed XP by completely formatting the HD so it would be a nice fresh installation.

Now, the installation goes fine, no problems there at all. But, the CD drive will not work properly after installation of XP. The drive appears in My Computer, and when you insert a CD, the label appears correctly, but the icon (if applicable) just shows as the default icon (Not the icon for a CD ROM drive, but the same icon you see if a file type isn't registered).

Even the XP CD itself doesn't work! If you open the icon to display the contents, the CD spins up in the drive, and after a minute or so, the contents is displayed. But you can't run any of the exe's and access to the drive is VERY slow (about 60 secs or so to do anything at all with it).

I can copy small files (e.g. the couple of HTML files in the root of the CD) to the HD. But any bigger files I get an error saying "Cannot copy <filename>: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error".

If I boot into Safe Mode, the CD drive works fine, all files can be accessed, copied or executed.

So, just to recap finally - the CD drive worked fine in Windows 2000 and also in my old machine which was running ME. It installs XP perfectly but won&#... Read more

Hello eveyone i've made logs as requested

Hello everyone.
My Windows 8, After a long time of using started acting very strange. I have NOD Smart Security as a anti-virus software did a scan on a system drive found some irrelevant viruses that i had,a win32 chub worm, but that's not the exact problem.
I remember having an adware that starts browser with a spammy startpage, but i deleted it now.
THE REAL PROBLEM is i don't why(even after having many experience with pcs) After some time or a random time pc acts very strange, apps like Steam, any other even task manager go nuts, I have screenshoting tool called Lightshot even that thing goes nuts, when i press PrntScrn it has to show transparent screenshot to click and size the areas of the shot, but it shows White or buggy screen when problems starts, Steam gives some errors like can't find some files, task manager asks for a admin permissions, UTorrent starts to display errors like "Not enough storage is available to process this command". Sometimes pc freezes with lack of memory (last time it froze couldnt open tskmgr). Then after i a restart it's all gone, but things like browser cookies, app datas like (Download Master's download list) are gone.
I really don't its a virus problem, or hardware, or corrupt OS.

Hello again,

I made a topic earlier about this problem, but someone decided to take it off. Sorry if i violated some sort of rule, but I wasn't sure where to post my problem, and i wasn't sure if a HijackThis log would help or not.

I made some changes to my registry a week or so ago based on recommendations for tweakguides.com

My computer did fun smoother and feel more responsive, but it seems that some problems have come up:

1) When I try playing any game on STEAM (counterstrike, day of defeat, etc) it uses the defaults (for cs, it's left hand, 16-bit graphics) and no matter what I do, it stays stuck that way. The biggest problem is that I end up lagging and getting blamed for speed-hacking.

2) AIM Triton does not work for me since everytime someone IMs me, it just freezes. I've swtiched to AIM 5.9 for now, but I miss the features of Triton.

3) IE DOES NOT WORK WHATSOEVER. I use firefox, but when I have to switch to IE, it just crashes and burns. Ugh.

4) Tibia will not actually CLOSE. Tibia is an MMORPG and whenever I close the client it disappears. When I go check under the windwos task manager, I find that it's still running in the background.

Those are the biggest problems for now, but I'm pretty sure more will come up soon...

someone plz help!!

The first place to start is by undoing those tweaks to see if they were the cause. If you're unable to locate them, then I'd suggest a system restore to a date prior to the tweaks.

Last night I was surfing the net, and afterward my PC (windows XP, service pack 3) started acting strange. Even with Internet Explorer closed, audio advertisements were playing thru my PC speakers -- that's never happened before. With IE open, random pages are opening, and the pages I am trying to open are opening VERY slowly or not at all. PC seems very slow in general.

I have Norton Internet Security on my PC. I ran a scan with that before finding this forum, but it found nothing.

I've followed this forum's instructions for "First steps", so following is a paste of the DDS.txt log and attached is a zip file with the Attach.txt and Ark.txt logs.

Ok, I recently bought a new Belkin Wireless-N router to attempt in fix this problem. The problem persist.

The problem is, even though my computer is successfully connected to my router, and wireless and my Xbox 360 can connect with NO PROBLEMS AT ALL, for whatever reason despite the fact it says that I'm connected, at times, I will randomly not be able to access any websites, despite the fact I can still be connected to AIM (Strange right)? If I connect my desktop (the computer in discussion) directly to my router I get a message sayin there's limited to no connectivity, but my router is connected and obviously things are fine.

I am on a Compaq Presario SR1907CL, running Windows XP (home) on SP2 ( I would update to SP3 but I'm not sure if my connection can handle the download :/). If any other information is need please ask me and I'll be happy to provide it, if instructed on how to.

Thank you very much!

Hi guys!
Two weeks ago i installed the AVG free edition on my PC (HP Pavillon dv6000 series) after a virus infection.
Everything seemed to worked nice till yesterday night when AVG blocked a trojan attack. After a while i shut down my laptop and today first thing in the morning i found out that the winamp shortcut did not work. Moreover the AVG icon is missing from the notification area. MSCONFIG command shows that AVG starts same time with my PC but the icon is missing. I also can not AVG (seems unable to operate).
I suspect some suspicious things are going on. I also found (through CTRL +ALT+DEL) that a strange 1159008889:2263739066.exe exist on C/WINDOWS.
Can you please give me your input on what should i do? Is my PC infected again?
I will post a hijackthis log shortly.

A:PC acting strange!

Fix this:

O8 - Extra context menu item: Search with Wanadoo - res://C:\PROGRA~1\Wanadoo\WSBar\WSBar.dll/VSearch.htm

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{67B171CE-8C8F-4AA9-A0BC-DAA78210ED71}: NameServer = 195.92.195.95 195.92.195.94 (unless you know what this is)
And, do you still have the disk for your keyboard?

Hello,Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic406615.html you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. Hello,

That is one log, of the three required.

I need to see the logs from DDS.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here, here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds to run the tool. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop.
-----------------------------------------------------

Please include the following logs in your thread:Contents of the DDS.txt posted as text in your reply
Attach the Attach.txt to your post by clicking the Manage Attachments button under Additonal Options>Attach Files on the composition page. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Upload.

I really don't its a virus problem, or hardware, or corrupt OS.

hello brutalsamNot certain if you considered win32 chub worm an irrelevant virus, as it is far from that.It is a chat client worm with backdoor Trojan functionality. The worm uses API calls for both Windows Messenger and AOL Messenger to send messages to contacts, with an attached file containing a copy of the worm. Worm:Win32/Neeris.C connects to an IRC server and waits to receive commands, such as to self-update, remove itself, download various programs and malware, or terminate running processes.morehttp://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/threat/encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?Name=Worm%3AWin32%2FNeeris.C#tab=2 Due to what is happening I feel your best course of cleaning is a deeper look. Please follow this Preparation Guide, do steps 6,7 and 8 and post in a new topic.Let me know if all went well.

Hi, I am running Vista and in the past couple of weeks or so have noticed that my PC is acting very strange. I dont usually turn the PC off when it's not in use and so it just goes to screensaver and I turn the monitor off. Well, I've heard what sounds like someone plugging the audio in (the speakers make the noise like when the jack is plugged into the back of the PC) and then I hear the noise it makes when you plug a USB device in (kind of a bong, I guess??) It makes that noise once and the twice in rapid succession likes something's been unplugged and then plugged back in again. When I turn the monitor on I dont see anything running and nothing looks like it's running in the background when I open task manager. I'm beginning to think someone's hacked me or is using my pc to send spam or something because when I open Mozilla there are a lot of sites in the history I know I havent been to. I've checked and remote connections are not enabled. I dont know what to do about this. I bought a new video card last year and have had no problems with it but recently I noticed that the fan on it has been making a noise. I pulled it out and looked at it and it's kind of loose in its housing and I think it's rubbing on the housing which is making that noise. Could it be an issue with the card? I think the video card is also the sound card but I'm not SURE of that. The reason I bring that up is that I've noticed sometimes when I unplug my headphones that the sound doesnt work ... Read more

I'd try running chkdsk /r command.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter.

Type Y and hit Enter.

Reboot.

Upon completion of command, the system will boot into Windows.

For about 2 months my computer (Sony VAIO desktop, Pentium IV 1.39 mHz, 512mb RAM, Windows XP Pro, SP2) has been acting strange. I have checked the system for viruses and spyware with AVG and Symmantec and others- with no luck. I also did a Windows repair; it only got worse. I also used reg scrub.

First, when starting up it gets hung up at "Windows starting up..." taking about 3 minutes to finally get to the user selection page. Once I login, it takes another 2minutes to fully open up. At that point, my mouse has a constant flicker and takes forever to open up IE (6.0). If I leave the computer for awhile, when I come back and move my mouse to wake it up- it has some new problems: I cannot type in numbers (num lock has no effect), when I type letters, they are in all caps (caps lock off), and when I go to my desktop to select a program to start, it highlights all of the icons and says basically "do you really want to start 38 programs at once". Any suggestions?

This doesn't happen every time I use the internet, but it has happened on several occasions and I have absolutely no idea why or if it is able to be fixed, but I thought I'd throw it out here and see if anybody has any ideas.

I can be surfing the net with no problems, then all of a sudden new browser windows will open - on their own, not just 1 or 2 but upwards of 50, one after another after another - all white with nothing in them. As fast as I try to close them others keep opening. The version of I.E that I'm using is - 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be grateful!

Thanks

First of all I'd like to say with great certainty that this is not an issue of a dirty mouse. I don't clean it regularly or thoroughly enough for this on and off issue.

It has been happening longer than I installed the media converter that had the relevant whatever virus. I have yet to find any way it could otherwise be linked to a virus so I'm ruling that out as well.

I'd blame the connector if it had any way of loosening exactly when these issues occur.

I'd also like to say that while likely coincidental the issue first occurred while playing team fortress 2. Supposedly when you uninstall Left 4 Dead by the same company, Valve it uninstalls some fonts as well, so I would not rule it out.

Now to describe the issue: Sometimes the mouse will randomly point all over the place. I haven't had that issue recently however.

More often is that the mouse will stop responding at all. Sometimes this is only for a minute or so, or other times I am forced to reboot my computer which seems to temporarily fix it.

I've just "acquired" a new glitch in my computer. Four days ago, I tried to download and install Adobe Reader 6.01. It said it installed successfully, but it wouldn't open. On time I tried to open it, I suffered one of the most horrendous Windows crashes I've ever had. It corrupted Windows so that it wouldn't boot the computer... got a message on the DOS screen as it starts to boot asking me to "type the location of the command interpreter". I type "C:\windows\command\command.com", hit enter, and nothing happened. So I reinstalled Windows (didn't uninstall it first; should I have?).

Computer now boots, but the Web site I was on at the time of the crash will NOT come up on EITHER Netscape 7.1 or IE6. Other sites also behave the same, but not all (e.g., this one works fine). I can sometimes get to a site that I can't directly call up by going through the back door; i.e., I can get to the home page, then click a link to the page I want.

When I try to go directly to most URLs, I just get an hourglass that never times out; just sits there forever. The system will not allow me to stop the page load or exit the browser (all dimmed), and I can't get to the Taskbar, which autohides. So I have to ctrl/alt/delete and 'end task' on the browser. After doing that, text from Word or Access or any other documents I open looks like it's been "beat up"... ragged. If I reboot the computer, the raggednes... Read more

I am brand new person and hope I am doing the right thing here. My daughter and I are bought in college and last week we couldn't access the internet because the pc tower was making a loud clicking sound. So, we tried for about 2 days and just couldn't do anything so I decided to use the disk it came with to try and repair, it wouldn't let me do that, so I tried to restore to an earlier date and it wouldn't let me do that either. I have to restore factory settings which took 2 days to do this. I believe that the disk I have has been infected as well. Before I posted to this forum I looked over your downloads and downloaded "Show hidden" items and another before I decided that I didn't know what I was doing.  So, this is how I landed in this forum. I tried to install my hp printer back and it kept giving me a fatal error. I had to go to hp.com and that was the only way I could get my printer installed.  Before my re-install I had an antivirus program which didn't catch what ever it was on this computer. Please note that the hidden log show several items that are hidden.

Thanks

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Hello, I'm running Windows XP SP3 on my laptop and this morning my computer initially acted like it was infected with the sasser worm, I got the 60 second reboot lsass.exe error message after logging in and starting up. Then I figured out how to stop the rebooting by running "shutdown -a". Now my computer boots up slowly (icons in the taskbar in the lower left hand corner come up much slower than usual), I can't connect to the internet and certain programs won't open (I get an error that says "The instruction at "xxxxxxxx" referenced memory at "xxxxxxxxx". The memory could not be "read". (the xxxxxxxx number/letters are different for different programs)) I've tried running the sasser fix utility, windows malicious software remover tool, scanning with malawarebytes anti-malware, and ad-aware. If anyone could help me out I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

Hello all

I went for help at the avast forum thinking that it might be a virus or malware and they cleared my computer of any of that. Here is the link to the thread:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=149620.0

It's explained in the thread but I'll explain it again and some more detail. Over the past 2 weeks, sometimes when I turn on my computer Windows will boot up and everything will show up on the desktop and look fine. But when I click on a program to open it, or click start - all programs, nothing happens. The programs won't start and under start - all programs there will not be a list of programs. Even when I hit ctrl alt dlt it takes a very long time to pop up and sometimes it won't even show up. Eventually I have to force shutdown since hitting restart or shutdown don't seem to work and I don't want to force shutdown during a restart or a shutdown. When I start the PC back up it will sometimes run a chkdsk which returns fine and also it will ask me if I want to start in safe mode or start normally. I always choose the latter. Once I start up the PC again, everything works fine.

It just so happens that my PC is acting up right now. I turned it on and everything looked fine, I even got programs to run. But it is acting sluggish. Skype took forever to open, I tried going into device manager but it won't let me, the control panel home took a long time to open and alt ctrl dlt will not work to get into the task manager screen.

I have no idea what to do ... Read more

A:Google acting strange

I guess I should attach a log file from HJT ! Hope someone can help here. Also unable to update from Windows update always get the response that my firewall is blocking connection but have disabled that along with antivirus (Norton Security 2009) still no connect. After doing a search in google and clicking on the link that I want to open well it will not open ? Clicking the back button, page reloads in Google to Image searches? I don't understand what is going on. The log looks somewhat clean to me.

Ok, so I know a little bit about computers, but I wouldn't say I'm an expert or anything, so detailed instructions would be helpful when responding to this, and thanks for the help. Here's what's going on. When I open firefox my home page defaults to 28yoog.com. I googled the problem and removed a program I found in the change or delete programs on my hard drive. After I removed the program the home page was able to be set back to google. I logged off and when I got back on 28yoog was back. Also, I'm getting slower than normal responses when starting up and opening up a web browser. I go into %temp% from the run command and clean my catche about once a week, and I've gone into msconfig and shut down everything I don't need, but it's taking a good 20 seconds for an internet page to load from the time I click the firefox icon. Once on firefox I can navigate pretty quickly, it's just when I first start it up. There are other things that happen like programs not working properly etc. But the slow startup and 28yoog are the biggest problems I'm having. I'm working with Windows XP and I use Zone Alarm firewall protection and AVG antivirus (both need to be updated). Any help would be great. A co-worker recommended your site and told me a scan of my computer could be run that much more thorough than a ZoneAlarm virus scan and you could tell me what to remove. Again, thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.
