Enterprise Site Inventory on Several Machines windows 7 , windows 8.1, windows 10

Q: Enterprise Site Inventory on Several Machines windows 7 , windows 8.1, windows 10

Hi,
I want to perform Enterprise Site Discovery on a environment where Win7 Sp1, windows 8.1, windows 10 machines are available, now I want to save all site discoveries in a single XML file or single SCCM report
I am able to collect data from a single windows 10 machine, using this blog's help
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/internet-explorer/ie11-deploy-guide/collect-data-using-enterprise-site-discovery
but I am unable to collect data from win 7 , windows 8.1 machine on a single xml or SCCM report
A)Moreover the Site discovery toolkit contains two group policy files in ADMX, adl format, I could not identify their usage, pliz help me how to use these files

B)We have almost 150+ machines in our infra, If we need to collect all telemetry data in from all 150 machines

How to achieve that??
Thanks in advance
Dhanraj

Preferred Solution: Enterprise Site Inventory on Several Machines windows 7 , windows 8.1, windows 10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

Over the past 2 weeks I have had about 7 laptops refuse to boot and can only get to the recovery console after entering the bitlocker key twice. Here are the system details:

Panasonic Toughbook CF-C2 with SSD.
Win 7E sp1
Joined to a domain
Patches managed with MEDC.

All 7 machines are identical in their configuration. On three separate days, I would come in to find three machines not booting.
From recovery console, I have gone back to previous restore points - TOTAL FAILURE
Suspecting a failed update, MEDC tells me the last patch was KB4103718 with an error code of: -2145124329
From there, I have found many references to using DISM to remove a patch via the recovery console. Unfortunately in Win7, it does not allow me to do so.
I have reimaged these machines from an image taken from the same model as above that has not crashed. But many have crashed again, and I can't keep reimaging these laptops.
We are out of ideas here. What can we do to get these machines going?

Thanks.
Rich.

Hi

The last month we have had many computers that is not getting an ip address. It happens on computers that has not been used for a while and on computers coming from another network like home network. We have had a rush of computers with this problem after
the Christmas holidays.
They are getting ip address 169.254.1.1 and the network responsible says that the computers are denying the ip address from the server and the error is on the local computer not on the server.
This happens on different models, network cards, locations and on both Wlan and Lan. On the same computer Wlan can get an ip adresse and LAN is not or opposite. Our company is using the same image in other countries and they do not have this problem. The
only difference is languagepacks and some GPO settings.
The workaround is in some cases to release and then renew ip address, but in most cases we have to uninstall network driver and install it again. Update the driver is not working. Netsh int ip reset is not working.

Have also tried hotfix KB2824546 and KB2459530.
The problem is returning for some of the clients.
Have logged the DHCP client, with this result:
Level    Date and Time    Source    Event ID    Task Category

We have users on Windows 7 Enterprise machines.  No one has a roaming profile. Users cannot install programs.  The users move around so they don't use the same machine all the time and there may be 20 profiles on one machine.  They don't
always logout but the machines are restarted once a week at least.   Occasionally we may delete profiles on the machines but this is a remote site so we seldom do.  Users primarily use remote apps. served up either by Citrix or web interface.
Little is done locally other than printing.  All machines are imaged with the same software. All users do the same thing.  One user in an office of six machines, can only login to three of the machines with a temporary profile.  She has no
profile under Users.  There is no .bak registry entry.  I cannot locate anything in the registry that points to this user.  I checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE|SOFTWARE|MICROSOFT|WINDOWSNT|CURRENT VERSION|PROFILELIST.  There were 20 profiles but
none for this user.  No .bak profiles for her, nothing.  I found a post that suggested increasing registry size/reboot but still no clue.  This has been going on for months and she just let me know but I don't know if she called the help desk
and they did something before.  Event log has errors saying:

A:Windows 7 Enterprise - User logs in with temporary profile - 3 different machines/no roaming profile?

Thanks.  She's working on the computer and does not logoff and back on quickly.  I just rechecked and there absolutely is not a .bak with her name.  On either computer.  I did find one for Temp and one for another user so now I have a
second user getting the profile issue.  I renamed that one and when the other user logged in, he got his profile.

Guess I will just re-image the computers although I'd like to figure it out but I don't have the spare time to waste and don't want my user to keep getting the temp profile.  My company won't pay for the support and frankly, in all the years I've
been in IT, I've never had MS resolve one issue for me.  Not worth paying for.  Oh well, thanks for your suggestions.  If I have time to devote to this and figure anything else out, I will post the answer.

(NOTE:  Links open in a new tab.)
In the TechNet article
here I see reference to a schema v.2 for the EMIE tool. It will apparently spit out the xml using the new version 2 of the schema. But the download link only goes to downloads for Win7/8 (schema v.1), and I cannot find any reference to where I can obtain
the Windows 10 version.
For example,
this article specifically references a Windows 10 version, where
this one references Windows 7 and 8.  Finding the Windows 10 version has proven impossible so far.
We have several sites which need to be opened in IE instead of Edge, and using our old Enterprise Mode site list is not working on our Windows 10 clients.
Current site list example:
<rules version="4">
    <emie>
          <domain exclude="false">www.contoso.com</domain>
    </emie>
</rules>

Etc.
Reading about the
v.2 schema leads me to think that the output from the tool is incorrect.  The documentation suggests that the output for Windows 10 should be:

<site-list version="205">
  <site url="www.contoso.com">
    <compat-mode>IE8Enterprise</compat-mode>
    <open-in>IE11</open-in>
  </site>
</site-list>

Or am I missing something here?

We are using Group Policy to issue an XML file with a list of sites for IE 11 to load in Enterprise mode.  We added our payroll company site because they were not compatible with IE 11, now they are ONLY compatible with IE 11.  I removed their
URL from the XML list over a week ago, but all company computers are still loading it in Enterprise mode.  I can have everyone turn it off manually, but the problem is they use so many subdomains that everyone would have to do it numerous times.  Why
is that happening?  I need to force this site and its subdomains to NOT load in Enterprise Mode.  It seems that when the URL was removed from the XML list it no longer forced it, but it also did not remove that setting.

A:Removing a site from Enterprise Model XML list for IE 11 does not disable enterprise mode for that site

Hi,
No event error doesn't indicate the policy is applied fine. If the new configuration didn't work, the most probably reason was the group policy was not applied.
You could rest your Internet Explorer 11 and then restart the compute to check the result.
If it still doesn't work, run "gpresult /h gpreport.html" command to saves the report in HTML format with the file name "gpreport.html" at C:\Windows\System32\ directory.
Open this file to check if this group policy was applied successfully.Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help, and unmark the answers if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact [email protected]

Since then, every computer is detecting an "internet connection" in the XP Network Connections. WHY? Its slowing the internet down, and Nobody on the network can acces the windows 2000 files. she has no problems doing anything, printing-seeing files- you name it. The XP machins can print to my printer (since its on my computer), but nobody can acces her computer. can you please help me?

Ok, I just started a new job and their domain is kind of screwy. They have a number of Windows 2000 machines running on a Windows 2003 AD domain. I am trying to get the AD integration for PC Duo running on this domain, but I am running into a problem. The machine I am using to test with, as well as every other Windows XP SP2 box, is missing from "My Network Places", which is what PC Duo uses to distribute clients remotely. I see all the Windows 2000 boxes fine. I found what could have been a viable solution, where I enabled File and Print Sharing in our Windows Firewall GPO, but all that did was give me every friggin domain in existence on the network, which totals well over 100. And I still couldn't see Windows XP boxes, which didn't help my problem anyway. Any thoughts on this? Where should I look?

A:Solved: Windows 2003 Cannot See Windows XP Machines in My Network Places?

Ok, it took me hours and hours of searching, but I found the problem.

Apparently, XP SP2 disables some services required by My Network Places to see and browse machines on a domain. These services are:
Workstation (needed to see computers in My Network Places)
Server (Needed to start Computer Browser)
Computer Browser (needed to browse computers in My Network Places)

Now, you don't NEED these services to run, and it's somewhat of a security hole to have them running all over your network, but they are required to run to both see and browse computers through My Network Places.

 Hi,
Something is going on with Windows update and new/restored 7 machines. Been going on pretty much all year so far and has been noticed by a great many other technicians besides me.  Windows 7 has seamed to taken the hit hard. With machines I have built
and restored for customers over these past few years. I know how long the update process approximately took with in an hour or 2. but the same machines are now running into days. Something is not right and needs to be investigated by Microsoft to locate the
problem unless it is being done intentionally for some reason. ??? Windows 8 and 10 machines don't seam to have as much problem 8 more than 10 but 7 never used too.

This involves too many different manufactures machines and clean installs of 7 SP1 for this to be a OS install problem. Not when doing the same machine with in less than 2 years and I could turn the machine over and have it ready to return to work in
a day. Not with the current problem with the update system for 7 OS anyway. I have read where this problem has been very frustrating for other techs.

I have tried a number of the so called KB fixes for this and they pretty much do not correct the problem, I believe it is with the update system and older OS's.

If is an effort to force 10 on folks is not good, if they don't like it and just don't want it, or have other issues with it. They ask for 7 OS machines. You have something people really like!!! So keep selling it and supporti... Read more

Currently the following registry key is active: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon CachedLogonsCount = 10 to support up to 10 unique user logons being
cached for remote use on laptops
I am seeing users having their cached credentials purged via event log - System - Event 45058, LSA (LsaSrv)
A logon cache entry for user [email protected] was the oldest entry and was removed. The timestamp of this entry was 6/5/2017 11:08:13.
My question is there are times that cached logons are being purged, such as when the logon count is incremented for other security principal logons (Services being restarted etc.).  The issue I am having is
that these are not being logged under Event 45058, LSA (LsaSrv) as in the case above.  The user is unable to logon and requires connection to the DOMAIN again to re-cache their profile but the system event log
is silent in regards to their cached account being purged?  Any ideas on tracking this subsystem behaviour to determine where these cached logons are being purged and if it is logged anywhere else (Just trying to gain a much deeper understanding of the
subsystem processes on this)

So i have seen many pages with the issue of mouse and keyboard not being detected at the language selection page during the windows 7 enterprise installation, so i was bale to find a work around for that issue by patching the ISO file with the USB 3.0 drivers,
I was able to move past the language selection page and install the OS, when installation completed and the system rebooted, it wont detect the mouse or keyboard at the "set up windows - Type a name for our PC" page.

Please help!!!

We purchased a VLK with Software Assurance from a local distributor here my question is what if from their VLSC License the Operating System listed are

10 Windows 7 Professional
82 Windows 8 Enterprise
15 Windows 7 Enterprise

We don't want to install Windows 8 as of now to our office and we wanted to retain the Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise as our Operating System. Do we have a problem for Activation if we still insists to used Windows 7 Pro and Enterprise Operating System using the Windows 8 Enterprise 82 Licenses?

Thank you very much

A:Activation Windows 8 Enterprise VLK but wanted to install Windows 7Ent

There is no way you can use a Windows 8 Enterprise licence for anything else than Windows 8 Enterprise. You simply can not activate Windows with a product key belonging to another Windows version and edition.

With those licences you can install and activate 27 25 Windows 7, not a single more.

Hi, Everyone this is my 1st post, I had been reading Sevenforums before i actually join it. Eversince then i got most of my doubt solve.

I just bought a Sony Vaio Y series come with Windows 7 Starter.

I got a bad deal form Malaysia giving windows 7 stater and 320gb hd, whereas S'pore giving Windows 7 home premiun and 500hd. Anyway i like the design and portability of this model.

I got a Year Warranty, But i'm wanted to upgrade it to Win7 Ent. and also wanted to upgrade my ram to 4GB max. my existing one is 2GB. but i afraid this would void the warranty.

Let get my question i wanted to update to Win7 Ent with out and not keeping my starter. but i afraid of driver issue, i plan to boot by USB setup.

Any advice?

A:Install Windows 7 Enterprise on Netbook Replacing Windows 7 Starter

Yeah -- warranty advice can only properly come from the warranty holder (despite what others here may tell you). So, you need to check with Sony support to see if performing such a Win7 upgrade will compromise your warranty in any way. My guess would be that it would not -- but (like everyone else posting here) -- that is only a guess.

Hi all,

I've got lots of photos on my Vista machine & would like to know if they'd still be there after upgrading. I've previously upgraded a Win7 machine using the auto upgrade feature which was impressive but I read that it won't work for Win8. Is there anything in particular I should watch out for?

A:[SOLVED] Upgrade from Windows Vista Enterprise x86 to Windows 8 Professional

If you do the upgrade ( versus a custom installation ) your data should be fine . . but you are taking a risk not haveing any data you cherish backed up . .

Here's the environment: (2 scenarios)
Scenario 1;
XP Pro 32 bit PC sharing USB HP LaserJet 3200 with universal PCL 5 (v.5.2) drivers with the "Traditional" installation mode (as opposed to the "Dynamic" mode) option.  Printer is shared.
Windows 7 32 bit PC workgroup members can R-mouse-click  and "Connect" successfully.  Windows 7 and Vista 64 bit PC workgroup members cannot.
We have 32 bit drivers and 64 bit drivers installed on their respective OS environments. They do not cooperate for the same print device on a 32 bit system from  x64 bit environments?
I need a solution.  Preferably to be able to share from the W2K3 server to ALL respective clients, regardless or their system bus width and their required 32 v.s. 64 bit drivers.  I am staying with the W2K3 server, which is 32 bit on a 32
bit Intel based Dell system.  So, if you must provide only one reply go with that.  Otherwise, I am looking 1st for the ONE serving ALL.  The ONE could be either W7 64 bit serving ALL (32 and 64 bit PC's) or vice versa.
(THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM THAT IS EASILY SEEN IN FORUMS EVERYWHERE. )
Scenario 2;
Windows 2003 R2 & SP2 x86 (32 bit) server sharing a USB LaserJet 3200 PCL printer with network domain clients with 32 bit and 64 bit PC's wanting to share.  Only 32 bit drivers are on the W2K3 server.
This seems to be more of a universal question than printer dri... Read more

Hi,

I suggest adding the printer as a local printer.

1. Go to Devices and Printers

2. Click Add a printer

3. In the Add Printer Wizard, select Add a local printer.

4. On the Choose a printer port page, make sure that the Use an existing port option button and the recommended printer port are selected, and then click Next.

5. On the Install the printer driver page, select the printer manufacturer and model, and then click Next

Then check the following solution.

Hi,
after searching profusely for someone with a legal copy of Windows 7 N edition I'm giving-up.
This is a "charity case" I've taken on and knew better to get involved with, but how do you say "no" to parents?

So now I have to re-install it looks like. I want this over with. What is the absolute easiest way to retain the data and apps from Windows 7 Ultimate N Edition and move it to legit Windows 7 Enterprise copy I have?

>>firstly and luckily, i have a created before a system image of windows 8.1 64bit (i have tried and checked system image restore and image is intact, i have further plans,if possible, so i did not restore yet , and that is what i am asking HELP from you guys.

>>I have 1TB HDD partitioned as follows: Drive C=200, Drive D=200, Drive E=531GB (for my Files)

>>now i am planning to CLEAN INSTALL Windows 7 64bit Ultimate on Drive C Partition (200GB).

>>IS IT POSSIBLE TO JUST RESTORE "my windows 8.1 system image on Drive D, instead of re-installing ??windows 8.1 again, simply i do not want to reinstall again alot on windows 8.1?

(MY WINDOWS 8.1 SYSTEM IMAGE SIZE =97 GB ONLY)

>>Will this boot as dual boot if i restore windows 8.1 system image only?

THANKS, ANY INFO IS MUCH APPRECIATED

A:Dual Boot Windows 7 Ultimate & Windows 8.1 Enterprise

Yes, you can Clean Install Windows 7 to C, then apply the image to the space you created for D.

If you use a flexible imaging app like Macrium Imaging then you can install it to C to simply drag the image from the source disk down to the target disk space you delete from D. It will fit as long as the space used on the image fits that space, then you can adjust the partition size on the link it will place below the dragged image.

It's not as easy to use Windows Imaging because it wants to restore the image to the same offset (position on disk) as it was before and will often try to delete everything else. So I'd use something as free and simple as Macrium unless you have another you trust.

Once you've applied the image from C or the imaging boot disk with all the auto settings for Drive letter, Copying Active partition, MBR and Track0, then you only need to install EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required) to C to add Windows 8 by Name, Type and Drive letter, to a Windows Dual Boot menu.

One last thing: You should post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image so we can look over it for any potential problems with the partitioning setup.

Every time I try to install it, I get this error.

I don't have a firewall other than Windows' and I don't know of any unusual setting.
Tried to restart, download updates for Windows etc. Nothing worked.

I downloaded the file from http://get.live.com as-is.

Anyone can help me?
Btw, I still haven't activated my copy, I'm waiting for the product key to be sent to me.

Thanks

Hello,

I got Win 10 Home OEM with my HP Desktop.
I would like to change the username of my local Win 10 account, but that's restricted in Home Edition.

So, I would like to upgrade it to Win 10 Enterprise. I have read that changing the username is supported in Enterprise edition. Also, I have the license for Enterprise and not for Professional or anything other than Home.

How do I upgrade it? I wouldn't like to loose my data.

Thanks,
Luka
