Keyboard shortcut in Chrome

Q: Keyboard shortcut in Chrome

Does Chrome have a keyboard shortcut to open the bookmarks menu yet?

Preferred Solution: Keyboard shortcut in Chrome

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I believe not. Ctrl + Shift + B toggles the bookmarks bar, but doesn't
open the menu.

Can anyone tell if there is a keyboard shortcut to open google chrome just like me open my computer by using win+E keys or to show desktop we use win+D.

or if we can make any keyboard shortcut to open google chrome application.

A:keyboard shortcut to open google chrome.

On the desktop icon of chrome, right click go to properties, in the "shortcut key", enter a letter and it should automatically put Ctrl+Alt+(letter). Save it, and press ctrl+alt+(letter), and see if that works. Its one of those features ive known about for awhile but never used.

Currently I have a desktop shortcut to PuttyCyg (a modified version of PuTTY) which I have configured Ctrl+Alt+C as a keyboard shortcut to launch the program. Trouble is, once there is one instance of the program open, when I enter Ctrl+Alt+C again, instead of opening another instance of the program, it brings the window of the currently open instance to the front. This is strange, because when I actually click on the shortcut multiple times, the default behavior is to open multiple instances of the program. How can I change it so that hitting the keyboard shortcut forces new instances to open? Do I have to resort to things like writing a VBScript?

A:Launch new instance of program through keyboard shortcut on desktop shortcut

Whatever I tried to open the result was just a blank page with no activity at all. I tried all sorts of different solutions listed on the various sites like reinstalling, disabling/uninstalling my AV/Firewall, Scanning for possible malware etc etc, nothing worked. The only thing that worked was renaming the chrome executable(In C:/Prog Files/Google/Chrome/Application) to something else other than the default chrome.exe. However, now all my shortcuts have stopped working. I have tried recreating these with the renamed file, but to no avail. I always keep getting the same error.(See screenshot). Any way to get the shortcuts working? I'm presuming there would be some registry changes required.

Hi. I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite Click 2 Pro and at the top, two of the keys increase/decrease the screen brightness (much like two of the keys at the top of a Mac do the same). Well, I discovered that if I press the key to decrease the screen brightness too quickly and bring it down all the way to the lowest brightness and keep clicking, it turns off the keyboard! As in, none of the keyboard keys will work anymore.
The only way I know of to fix it is to restart the keyboard. I'm wondering if there's a way to 1) disable the fact that it does this, and 2) find a way to turn the keyboard back on without restarting the computer, since it is, quite frankly, annoying when I have three word documents and about 10 browser tabs open. I can't figure out how to disable/stop this one key by using the keyboard settings/ toggling the hotkeys/etc.
Honestly, I'm not even sure if this is a Windows 8 issue or Toshiba issue. Has anyone else had this problem?

A:Keyboard shortcut locks up keyboard (Toshiba Satellite)

If under warranty, return this to the store ASAP for replacement/repair. There's not much we can recommend you do, hardware-wise, that you can do and not void the warranty.
I suspect the keyboard may be sticking,,, you can try another USB KB for troubleshooting though. Plug in the USB KB and see if that behavior is duplicated using that KB.

Just got an update for Chrome and the shortcut icon is no longer the Chrome icon but like an old windows file icon. When I create a new shortcut within the Chrome folder the icon is fine; when I move it, or just send one, to the desktop it loses it's picture. When I create or send a shortcut icon for Old_Chrome there's no problem. Tried F5.

Hello Everyone I am new to computers and I had created a shortcut that opened up my StumbleUpon page directly in Chrome which allowed me to create bookmarks. I had to run CC Cleaner and also had to remove an unwanted Ask Toolbar. I tried several things to remove the toolbar that were recommended online but the only one that worked was installing Revo uninstaller. I couldn't get the original page back on internet explorer browser and so I ran Windows Fixit. When this was taking forever and seemed to hang up, I just restarted. When I restarted my shortcut that opened directly in Chrome was an explorer shortcut on the desktop and would not open the site in Chrome where I could do the bookmarking. I researched the ways to create the shortcut. I tried to drag the url to the desktop from Chrome but it would only come up as a explorer shortcut. I tried to go to tools and create an application shortcut but this would not get the Chrome circle that allows me to open directly in Chrome. How do I get the shortcut to be, I guess I would call it a Chrome shortcut that has the Chrome emblem as that one opens the pages directly in Chrome and allow bookmarking of selections. This has had me pulling my hair out as I could find no solution. I would appreciate it if someone might have a suggestion other than the ones I have tried. I know Chrome has problems sometimes and I think it has something to do with my browser history being erased or some setting that has been changed as a result of... Read more

My aunt lost her internet service for about a week (lousy provider, but that's another story). She has an XP computer. Her browser is Chrome.

Her service is now restored. A technician told her over the phone that junk files on her computer might have contributed to the problem. So she ran CCleaner.

All of her Chrome desktop shortcuts now go to the Google homepage. When she clicks on her Yahoo shortcut, she gets the Google homepage. When she clicks on her Amazon shortcut, she gets the Google homepage. Etc.

I tried to re-establish her shortcuts for her, using Chome's pathway More Tools -> Add to Desktop. But I got the same result. No matter what website shortcut I put on her desktop, clicking it took me to Google.

The really odd thing is that these new shortcuts all look right; the white f on a blue background for Facebook, for example. But they all go to Google.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I know that this is a Windows 8 forum, but I am using Windows 8 and wondered if you guys knew if there is a solution to what I am trying to do.

Is there a way that I can make a shortcut for Chrome that will open multiple URL's at once? I know how to make one that will open a single URL, but is there a way to open several? For example, can I make a shortcut on my desktop that will open google.com, facebook.com and twitter.com all at once.

A:Chrome: Opening multiple URL's in a single shortcut

The new chrome I don't see a setting to open new pages in tabs. I assume it's the default behavior.

To open more than one url just leave a space between them. That's how my BrowserBunch program works.

XP and later the command tail can be up to 4095 characters long. So you can actually open quite a few.

Example target line
x:\chrome\chrome.exe site1 site2 site3 site4 site5

(I'm not typing in urls or the forum software will dereference the links)

You are using a Windows version out of support for 3 1/2 years and then a hard drive cleaner to fix problems that has a Registry Cleaner in it besides and you are surprised? Frankly I am surprised it still boots at all as to put a Windows XP computer for which there are no Antivirus programs available and no Windows Updates for 3 1/2 years on the Internet is similar to letting all the air out of all the tires on your car and then not understanding why you cannot go forward.

Hello, world. I am currently having some issues with my computer, with two pieces of software: Brackets (http://brackets.io/) and Google Chrome. (There may be some other software, but I'll leave that up to you.)

On my desktop, whenever I try to delete the Chrome icon, it always respawns, giving a description of "a description." Also, it gives the file location as being this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --proxy-server=http=

On Brackets, there is a feature known as Live Preview, which allows me to open and edit my HTML/CSS projects in a Chrome window. However, every time I press the Live Preview button (which looks like a lightning bolt), Chrome will not even start its debug mode to start Live Preview.

A few weeks ago, I installed some software that I thought to be legitimate. I have since uninstalled it, but from what I have gathered (and tried to get rid of with third party software such as Eraser and Revo Uninstaller Portable), the software installed some OTHER software along with the main software, like Booster-Web and PastaLeads.

Please help me get rid of these issues, so that Chrome functions normally again and so that I can use my Live Preview tool again.

I shut my computer down today to give it a rare rest, closing all windows first. When I turned it on again, only one of the two Chrome profile icons I use showed up in the taskbar. Can anyone provide instructions for restoring the icon and associated profile? I would be grateful.

Beyond that, I wonder what the icon and profile's disappearance mean for the hardiness of my Dell Inspiron laptop, which is about three years old and which runs Windows 7. I am hard on it, leaving it on most of the time and keeping dozens of tabs open on both Chrome profiles (I'm a researcher). Is my laptop telling me it is dying?

A:Google Chrome Desktop Shortcut Icon not Working

It looks like a false alarm.
I use Standby and Hibernate all the time and only shut down perhaps every 2-3 days.
Somehow the desktop Chrome icon function must have got paralysed during the sleep period, because when I eventually did shut the computer down and restarted it, the Chrome icon is now working.
Sorry for the false alarm, but the icon freeze puzzled me. Just re-booting never entered my mind as a solution.

I'm using Windows 8.0 64-bit, and just started having a very strange issue that I've never seen before. A Google Chrome shortcut that I've pinned to the start menu keeps disappearing on its own. I pin it to start normally, and it works fine. Then a few minutes later I open up the start menu, and the it's gone. I should stress that this only happens to the Google Chrome shortcut. None of the dozens of other items that I have pinned to start have ever disappeared. If I go to the actual directory where the start menu shortcuts are stored (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs), I still see the Chrome shortcut there. It just doesn't show up on the menu. Am I missing something obvious here? What would cause this?

Is there any way in Windows 7 that I could set up a keyboard shortcut that would paste a short predefined text field at the point of the cursor?

A:How can I set up a keyboard shortcut.

Welcome LeeInMo. It's actually quite easy with AutoHotkey. You can write a simple script to paste a line of text when you press a key combo, such as Ctrl+D, etc. (just don't use keys that windows uses like Ctrl+c, tec. )

AutoHotkey Tutorial: Macro and Hotkey Creation

for instance, you can use a letter not used by windows that starts your sentence

Send I want to put this text here (Just an example, the bold area would be the text string you desire)

Send Leave the door open when you leave (Just an example, the bold area would be the text string you desire)

You can string several together if you have several lines of text you use often, you just have to remember what the hotkey combo is

Send Install the font
Send Life is a beach
Send Ship to customer
Send Modify as needed
Send Golfballs have dimples
Send Request more information
Send Always talk to your manager first
Send Useless information
Send Technicians must be present
Send Diagnose problems
Send Night time is dark
Send Black is slimming
Send Quietly slink away
Send Knead the dough
Send Just about anything
You get the idea The return creates a return for a space.

There's a 3 key shortcut already. Note: do not keep each key pressed when you press the next one. Press one, release it..press the next, release it..etc..Windows Logo Key > U > UIf you notice when you hit the Windows Logo Key (and the Start Menu comes up), the u in "Turn off computer" is underlined. Pressing U does the action that has U underlined (like hitting Alt + some letter in any application). Hit U again, the u in "Turn off" is also underlined, so it performs that action (shutdown). Pressing R here instead of U would do a Restart.Note: The letters you have to hit to do this vary by version of Windows....the way you access "Power Button Actions" for Vista and Windows 7 are slightly different.

Click this imgur image above to understand what I am talking about

I made some shortcuts to things like web sites and files.

I hit the window key and microsoft onenote and files come up. I really want files to show up on top because that is where my cursor (not the right word?) starts. This forces me to have to scroll down to files and click on the right shortcut which almost defeats the purpose of having a shortcut that can be accessed rapidly with a shortcut

Let's say my shortcut is "electronics youtube channel"
Unfortunatley if the words electronics youtube channel are somewhere in oneote, onenote will appear on top like in the picture. Now I must scroll down or move my cursor to Files whereas if Files was on top, then the name of the shortcut "electronics youtube channel" woudl have been on the top, I could have just pushed enter

If electronics youtube channel words don't show up in onenote, there is no Microsoft Onenote in the picture so Files appears first on top and the shortcut is usually the first thing that I am on. Then I can simply push the enter button and go to the shortcut.

Basically here is the summary of the entire post:
- I want to just go to a website or a document without having to move my mouse or click on things on the desktop. I want to hit the windows button, type the name of the shortcut to that website or document, have it appear on the top of the start menu because I remember what I called the shorcut and I ... I'd like to assign a keystroke to one of my mouse buttons that will launch Windows Explorer.

The Windows key + E launches computer in Windows Explorer which would be fine. However, Logitech SetPoint Settings wont let me map the Windows key.

Another option was to create a shortcut of "computer" on the desktop and then right click>properties and make a custom keystroke assignment for that shortcut. Problem with that is, the shortcut has to be actually on the desktop for it to work. I don't want that either.

So, any suggestions would be awesome. I know I'm probably missing something simple. Thanks in advance.

I want a keyboard shortcut to a screensaver. I made a shortcut to the screensaver and saved it to my desktop. I then created a keyboard shortcut to this shortcut as I found these directions online. The issue is that this only works for me if the shortcut is left on my desktop, and I do not want it there. If I create it anywhere else or move it then it will not function unless it is double clicked and the keyboard shortcut part of it will not work. Any ideas? It would make more sense to me if you could create a keyboard shortcut to the original screensaver file but that is apparently not an option. I do not want to use windows key-L.

Windows key-L is the logical choice, but as you don't want to use that let's check your methodology. Try checking out the order that you do these things (and how and from where you are creating the shortcuts). If you create the keyboard shortcut while the shortcut is on the destop, then when you move that file, they keyboard shortcut will no longer work because it does not change when you move the file. How do you expect the shortcut to work if not by double-clicking it wherever it is located (except perhaps quick launch or if you've programmed the mouse for single click activation)? And if it isn't going to be on the desktop and you have a keyboard shortcut for it, why would you ever need or want to use the shortcut icon itself?

Try the following in the order listed and see if that works any better for you (compliments of Ronnie Vernon, MVP):

All of the screen savers are located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. They have the .scr file extension. Go there in Windows Explorer and double click any of these files to start that screen saver and see which one you want to use. (So it is possible using the original file.)

When you find it, right click that file and save as a shortcut to the desktop. You can then place this shortcut wherever you wish, and then once it is where you want to save it, right click the shortcut and give it a unique keyboard shortcut (you can probably even use the one you originally selected as long as you delete the original keyboard shortcut and t... Daughter called and said that grandson was "pounding" on the keyboard and now there's no sound. She has checked the control panel for the sound Icon and says that the sound is not muted there. She said that she checked the sound icon in the task bar and it is not muted there. She also says that sometimes if she goes to a website on the internet that has music or sound, she can sometimes hear it from there.

Is there a keyboard shortcut that the grandson could have pressed that mutes the sound some where????

A:Keyboard shortcut for sound?????????

If she has a special keyboard there might just be. On my old HP keyboard there is a mute button among the extras.

I'm in the process of teaching myself to learn to read/write Korean both by hand and on computer - I'm able to enable typing in Korean but I do not yet know the key-bindings for specific characters so i make use of the 'soft keyboard' option on the language bar (virtual on screen keyboard that shows location of characters in relation to keys on my 'english' keyboard). I can't figure out if there is a keyboard combination that replaces the manual (and extremely annoying action considering I switch back and forth frequently) clicking of the button on the language bar, or even if it is possible to have it as a default action when I enable Korean characters.

This is my first time posting on this site so I hope I haven't done anything wrong :/

I have Windows Live Messenger and when u press 'Alt' a bar/frame appears around the conversation boxes, i'm not sure what its called but it has 'File' and 'Edit' at the top. This bar appears and disappears whenever you press 'Alt'.

My problem is i have accidentally punched a key combo and this bar has locked on so its on all the time, its really bugging me because i can't get it off.
