Usb not detected!

Q: Usb not detected!

After i formatted my Dell Optiplex GX270 and did a freshed installation of Windows XP, my USB doesnt work. I downloaded Service Pack 1 to fix the yellow exclamation mark so it did. But when i connect my devices to the usb port, it doesnt detect it. I know my usb devices are working fine because i use it on my other computers. For instances, my Joystick. It is working because the lights for it turns on, but windows xp does not detect it. What is wrong? Please help me!

Preferred Solution: Usb not detected!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The other PC has an USB wireless adapter.
PS: i've tried restarting the router/moden, to no avail.

It sounds like something is timing out.  It is hard to be sure without swapping either the drive or the MB.  You might go into the BIOS and select diagnostic mode for boot.  That would do a memory test and it might slow things down enough to mask the problem

Today Norton Antivirus began to block threats from Trojan.Zeroaccess.B, Trojan.Gen, Trojan.Gen.2, and Trojan.Zeroaccess.C. I have been prompted to do a manual removal of Trojan.Zeroaccess!inf4 from c:\windows\system32\services.exe. Additionally, Bitcoinminer is being repeatedly detected, blocked and quarantined. I'm not sure if Norton is having a problem deleting/quarantining Bitcoinminer, or if it is actually being downloaded over and over. I suspect that these two problems are related, as they started at the same time.

From what I gather, the fix seems to be quite complicated and I would appreciate some help.

My system is running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium w/ SP 1. Looking at similar threads, it looks like I'll need to use a flash drive to run removal tools. I do not currently have a flash drive on hand, but I do have an 4 GB SD card. Will that be a sufficient replacement?

Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

That's what the system said, in DOS, on the black screen. Of course, I had my mouse and keyboard unplugged at the time, because I had just unplugged everything to move the computer.

Anyways, I plugged the keyboard and mouse in, restarted the computer, and everything started normally.

My question is, what is with this error? Vista can't boot up if I don't have a keyboard and mouse plugged in? It's not a big deal, but it seems like very odd behavior.

A:Keyboard not detected, Mouse not detected. Fatal Error, System Halted.

This has nothing to do with Vista whatsoever. As you said it showed up on the black screen with white text, which is the boot screen. The computer hasnt even started loading windows yet. The fatal eror occurs because you have no input device. The computer recognises this, and given that they are important, it puts a warning up that there is no connection.
It is completely normal, really, and whatever OS you have, its going to do the same thing.

I did a stupid thing yesterday. I downloaded an icon pack APK file on my computer to upload to my mobile. Anyway, the thing is, when I double clicked on it, BlueStacks (Android Emulator) opened up, and Avast started giving me lots of warnings about BlueStacks accessing Trojan URLs (it blocked them of course).

Now, the thing is: I scanned the APK file both in Malware Bytes Anti Malware and Avast (and even Malware Bytes Anti Rootkit), and it showed no virus or malware found. But when I try to attach the the same APK file as a Gmail attachment (which I read on the net detects viruses, which is why I tried it), Gmail gives me a "Virus found" error.

So, my question is how come such reliable antivirus / anti-malware programs like MBAM and Avast didn't detect the virus but Gmail did? And more importantly, (though I have deleted the APK file in question from my computer) is my computer safe? Or has a rootkit / trojan been installed?

A:Virus not detected in Avast & MBAM, but detected when I upload the file to Gmail

I should have came to this conclusion sooner, but my current re-installation of Windows has some problems that I haven't had the time to address until now. What I need, though, is access to the repair function on the disk. However, herein lies my problem...

When I boot up, media in the drive or no media, bios does not show the drive in its list. I can still open and close the drive as if nothing is wrong there, but I cannot "boot from CD". I've reset my bios back to defaults and while the drive appeared on IDE Channel 1 in the settings, it still would not recognize ANY media while booting up.

I have the latest version of my bios. I have also tried changing cables. The drive is on an IDE channel by itself.

Once my system boots into Windows, however, the drive is recognized and acts normally as if nothing happened in bios. Media operates fine. I have checked the event viewer, and there are no entries anywhere that states my optical drive has been experiencing problems, and yes, in fact it operates just like it always does.

Can anyone help me get my bios and cdrom back together again? The problem is I just do not know where to start to solve this. I wish I could say how long this has been happening, but I really don't know as of today. There have been no hardware changes in the past three months, and my current installation and configuration began back in late April.

Thanks for your time...

A:CD/DVDROM drive - not detected by bios, detected by Windows?

What is the boot sequence in the bios? should be CD or optical drive first, then Hard Drive or IDE-0 second if you want to boot from the cd-drive. Many computer manufacturers set the computer to automatically boot off of the hard drive by default so setting the factory defaults might not be what you are looking for. Look for the screen that has the boot order or sequence and just change it, exit and save settings and restart the computer with the boot cd in the drive. I hope that helps.

Hi!

I hope you're having a good December. Thanks again for your previous help this past summer!

A scan by TrendMicro picked up several infections, most of which it was able to clean up. But it wasn't able to remove PAR_SE.50425 and PAR_SE.50426. It also says I have a (MS05-004) ASP.NET Path Validation Vulnerability (887219), even though I have automatic Microsoft security updates. The first several minutes of a PandaScan (I didn't have time to finish it) found some SearchMeUp adware.

I'm so sorry, I can't remember how to Hijack This, otherwise I'd post that log, too. Any help you could provide would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

Hi guys,

I bought a bluetooth dongle off of amazon so I could use my bluetooth headset with my comp. Once plugged in it installs driver version 6.1.7601.17889 from microsoft and there are no yellow '?'s. When I look for devices it sees my headset no probs but will not connect, which it does instantly with phones / tablets etc.

A very detailed search has brought me to the conclusion that it's a problem with the bluetooth driver, not the headset. Unfortunately there are no identifiers on the dongle itself but device manager seems to think it's:

Device type: Bluetooth Radios
Manufacturer: Cambridge Silicon Radio Ltd

Is there anyway I can detect exactly the chipset in the dongle and get the correct drivers installed? Or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?

Thanks.

I went to connect today and my dialup connection was gone.  I thought, well, I'll recreate it....but Windows would not let me and said (in the Connect to a Network box):  "Windows could not detect a dialup modem", "Is the modem connected?", "is the modem switched on?"

It is an internal modem.

I went to Device Manager, and there it is as usual, "This device is working properly".

A:Dialup modem detected, but not detected, huh?

Doing some searching gave me this solution:

It is caused by certain services being shut off for unknown reasons.... definitely unknown in my case (??).

Delete or rename the following folder:
c:\windows\system32\logfiles\wmi\rtbackup
(the folder, rtbackup)

However, it has some kind of protection and doesn't allow itself to be so changed.  I did it from a DOS boot disk with NTFS4DOS.

Everything is working.

I've been working on this off and on for a week or 2 - searching the net hi and lo, including this site, and can't come up w/anything, so I'm resorting to posting here...

I've just built this PC (configuration should be in sig), and installed Win98SE on it.

I have a SoundBlaster PCI 128 CT 4700 (w/ES1370 chip) that I bought off a friend. He didn't have the original CD w/drivers.

I've downloaded SEVERAL different "updated" drivers from various sources (including Creative), but nothing seems to work.

Here's what happens:

Start PC
Windows sees new hardware and starts installing drivers. About the same time another window pops up:

Press OK, this reveals the window in the bg:

To finish setting up your new hardware, you must restart your computer. Do you want to restart your computer now?

2)Windows98 lite blue startup screen

Hello, I recently bought a Probook 450 G4, i7 7500U with 1 TO HDD and 8GB RAM. I wanted to upgrade it with an SSD so I bought a ADATA Premier SP550 2280 M.2 SSD. The BIOS detected it normally, but windows installer wouldn't find it. I removed the HDD and tried again, same issue. I then installed windows 10 on the HDD to try and format the SSD in windows and surprise! no sign of the SSD nowhere, not in browser nor in Disk Managment or Diskpart. Apparently HP disabled the M.2 port in BIOS as mentioned here ( https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/M-2-SSD-Upgrade/m-p/5580822#M3... ) I updated the BIOS the the latest version provided by HP for my laptop model and the same issue is still ongoing, this is a 120$ SSD that I can't use nor return as the problem is the HP product not ADATA's SSD! The simplest solution is in the hands of HP, just release a BIOS update with the M.2 port ENABLED ! why brag about having a M.2 port in your products and then DISABLE it ?! Any insights please ? Many Thanks. PS: I started a new thread yesterday and it is no longer available now ! did HP remove it or what ? it was there for a while and I'm sure! what a shame !

I picked up a computer off craiglist was thoroughly enjoying my gtx geforce 680 ( https://boston.craigslist.org/sob/sys/6239989909.html ) when it "crashed" about 6 hours after purchase. When I rebooted I received the "no hard disk detected" message. Upon launching bios setup the hard drive is listed with details as being attached to its corresponding sata port. I am trying to determine if my hard drive is broken or if it needs remounting or some other sort of procedure.

The hard drive is a slightly dated WD Carver 1 TB SATA internal drive interacting with an asus motherboard. I did notice the boot order for drives had been rearranged putting an external and an optical disk drive in position 1 and 2 for boot directories. I disabled both the external and optical disc and selected the WD sata drive as the first preference for booting. Still I am getting the same error. I read somewhere that if the bios is recognized in setup but is still not recognized for booting that I may need to run a 32bit diagnostic. The forum I saw the diagnostic post mentioned on was in reference to a dell machine. I don't really know what this is or if it exists on my ASUS mother board.

In short: how can I tell If my hard drive needs replacement?

If Bios recognizing the drive is sign of life how can I get my computer to recognize this drive again?

are there any programs I could download on my laptop and put on my external that could be used to boot and run diagnostics on t... Read more

My laptop has suddenly started running CHKDSK during startup. After it completes and finishes booting I go to Properties > Tools > Error Checking of my C drive and click ?Check?. It says errors were found on this drive and to repair drive now to prevent data loss. I click to run it, the system reboots, I see the prompt to cancel CHKDSK by pressing any key, let it run, the screen remains blank with just the little spinning dots. It finishes (in less than a minute, which is faster than it usually takes) and loads to desktop. I check the C drive properties again and it still says there are errors and to repair.

Running CHKDSK from CMD prompt I get ?Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required.? Running a 3rd-party disk checker (Disk Doctor, Tune-Up Utilities) also reports no errors. Yet the properties dialog continues to warn that there are errors.

I can?t be certain when this started. Just noticed this yesterday when I booted up (I don?t usually stick around and watch the computer boot). Windows has all the latest updates/patches. This is an HP ENVY laptop that came with Windows 10 pre-installed.

Anyone have any ideas?

OK - When I look at Device Manager, the modem shows up. When I go to Properties / Diagnostic / Query Modem, it is fine.

When I run Juno, it is able to successfully retrieve e-mail (it just dials and connects).

I CANNOT connect to the web - Juno says that there is no modem installed. Upon further investigation, when I go to Connections and try to add a new connection, I am not allowed a choice of using a modem.

So - Device Manager and Juno E-mail both think that the modem works fine. Connection Wizard and Juno WWW both think that no modem exists.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the modem, to no avail. Oh, and yes, it used to work, and I can't get the user to remember a specific time when it stopped working.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Hi
My Kingston Data
Traveller 8 GB drive (1 yr old) is not getting detected on my new PC (2 weeks old). It was working perfectly on my old pc, and is working fine on my office PC, frnd's PC, Philips DVD player, Sony HiFi audio system.

My mobo is Biostar TA785GE 128M, OS is win xP Pro 32 bit. The drive is detected on all USB ports of mobo, but as soon as I start any data transfer, it crashes and i get error that data cannnot be transfered.

The Disk Management (My Computer - Manage) shows the drive as healthy, but after I start any file transfer, in a few seconds, it reads "Unreadable". Sometimes, the drive letter also goes missing. In brief, the drive is displayed in My Computer till any file transfer is initiated. As soon as any file trnsfr starts, I get error that file transfer is not complete and the drive goes missing.

My frnd's UsB drive (2 GB), and my old 256 mb drive, both work and files are transferred which removes the doubt that there is some prob in USB ports. As the 8gb pen drive works on other PCs and devices, so i guess the drive is okay. I ran HDtune for it, and it has no bad sectors. That leaves my OS as the culprit (I assume). Looks like there is some problem in the way XP maps the USB drive.

I've tried many things, and here is my observation:

When I boot I am getting "511 CPU fan not detected." Obviously, it appears there is a problem with the fan. So I will replace the fan if someone can tell me where I can get it and what fan I should get. It's the Pavillion-h151. But even if I replace the fan I am concerned that will not solve the problem. Since the fan seems to work okay. I take it out and it spins smoothly.  It's working right now, my core is only 20. So I suspect there is another problem. Anyone have any idea what else the problem could be or what else I might try. I've heard it could be the sensor. FYI the computer is shutting down on me sometimes. And I downloaded a speedfan program that told me the other day the temperature never dropped after I played a game for awhile to check out fan's operation. So maybe it is working sometimes but not working others? Anyone with info will be appreciated. Especially help in locating the fan I need. Thanks

I've rediscovered my ThinkPad X61 which is quite a nice laptop, and after upgrading the memory noticed a slot for a SIM card. The problem is that  I am unable to use it. After nuch experimenting I've found that it uses a Sierra Wireless MC8775 3G card, and that if I press Fn+F5  I bring up the Lenovo Access Communications program which has an option for using Mobile Broadband. Unfortunately that tells me to insert a SIM card... I've tried inserting various SIM cards in both directions but it makes no difference. Someone suggested that the 3G card is locked to the Vodafone network, but if that was the case, wouldn't I get a different error msg such as 'SIM is not usable'?... I'll try and get hold of a Vodafone SIM to see if that makes any difference but suspect it won't. Any advice appreciated.

Hi. My friend installed windows 10 to my newly replaced seagate 1TB HDD. Then when i used it, it there was an error message that comes up intermittently. So, i used the windows 10 recovery disc to fix it. Later did i know that my friend installed it as 32-bit, not the 64-bit it was supposed to be given my recovery discs. It hang and became unresponsive. I rebooted the laptop. But to my surprise, an error message on blue screen says i need to install an OS and something about 3F0. I used the MS Media Tool, but it wont detect my HDD. I tried the HP diagnostics, but no HDD is being detected. I tried checking the cables, all seem to be fine. I used the SeaTools diagnostics, again, no HDD is being detected. What should i do?

I'm using MotherboardMonitor 5 to keep on eye on temps (currently 36C CPU
Anyway, I have two case fans installed with one powered by the mobo sensor plug...this one is not showing up on MBM5. I checked the BIOS, it's not detected there either. I don't have any other sensor plugs (one used for CPU, other for other case fan.)
Is it just a bad plug? Powers the fan though...hmm

The fan may not support monitoring.
Has it got 3 wires? If not, no monitoring.

Even some 3 wire ones dont support it, the 3rd wire is unused.

Recently i upgraded almost all of my hardware, including the hard disk drive, and was all set to assemble it all and transfer my files from the old 40GB Maxtor Fireball 3 but it didn't work.

The old drive is not being detected at bootup by any computer I plug it into, not the 'new pc' not the 'old pc' and not my dad's pc either, despite it working perfectly fine up until two days ago.

The disk has Windows XP installed on it though I shouldn't think that has anything to do with it since the bios isn't picking it up at all, it indicates it as "none" after taking an above-average time to scan for IDE drives.

The fault is not with the cable I am using either since that has proven itself at connecting both a seperate hard disk and a dvd-rom drive. Even more confusing is when both hard disks are connected with the same cable, the problem one as a slave, neither are detected.

This is starting to become the bane of my life, if anyone can help I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Hudders.

OK, So here's the problem. I had a computer that was running just fine, and I went ahead and upgraded to windows XP from 2000. It ran fine for about a couple of days, and a few days down the line my start bar just never showed up anymore, and the computer was kinda feeling slow (well it felt slow after upgrade).

So I created a boot disk and tried to reformat and the computer and it never recoginzed the hard drive or any optical drive. I installed the hard drive in another computer and I have access to all files on that HD. (HD partioned to C: and D
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an ASUS a7v333 motherboard with a amd 1800+ processor cooled by a ThermalTake 7 heatsink/fan.
Its done it a few times before, but recently when i start up my computer in the morning (it seems to happen only in the morning, maybe because its colder) but when i turn my computer on, It says "No CPU detected, No CPU detected" verbally. Then after a few seconds, it beeps like the computer should when it turns on, and boots like nothings happened. Does anyone have any idea why it does this, or how i go about correcting it?

My computer runs pretty hot, an average of 52-58 degrees idling. The airflow isnt great, so I was considering buying a new fan, hopefully thats more quiet, Zalman 6000-cu perhaps.

Anyway, id appreciate if anyone could help me with this problem, thanks.

A:No CPU Detected

Check that the memory and CPU are seated correctly into their slot and socket. Thats the first thing to do when experiencing any problem with devices not being detected when the system posts. I can't see any other reason straight off why this error would be occuring and then booting normally. Could try and barebones boot up to see if some other device is causing the issue. Hard disk, 1 stick of memory and the CPU.

Hello, I recently bought a new Probook 450 G4, it came with Freedos and a 1 TB HDD, I7 7500U and 8GB RAM, I wanted to install my OS directly on an M.2 SSD so I made sure my laptop has the M.2 slot and  I bought one, I chose the ADATA Premier SP550 M.2 2280 (240 GB) which seems great. I inserted the SSD in the specified port along with the HDD which I intended to leave for storage, switched the computer on and checked on the BIOS and the SSD was there, I then booted from a Windows 10 UEFI USB and this is when I noticed that the SSD is not listed in the windows installer menu, only the HDD was there. I searched in the internet, disabled secure boot and made sure everything in the BIOS is well configured, except for the AHCI moe which is not available for modification as it is configured by default in HP BIOS (according to intenet). I opened DiskPart and the SSD was not there too. I then removed the HDD and left the SSD only, in the windows installer I could only see the USB (from which I'm booting) and an empty drive with no allocated space and showing all values at 0. I finally decided to install windows on HDD and then format the SSD in windows as proposed by some, but windows could not load the SSD in the file browser, nothing in the Disk Manager too, it only lists the HDD and CD ROM! so my M.2 SSD is not showing up anywhere, can it be dead ? the guy I bought it from said he already installed it on 3 ASUS ROG c... Is this the main drive that you are trying to install Windows on?
If so, you may need to download the Dos Sata Drivers from your Motherboard's (or computer manufacture's) support driver page

Is this an extra HardDrive (ie Slave) that you are setting up in your computer?
If so you may need to inialize the Drive by going to Disk Management in Control Panel (under Administrative tools)

Probably more info required

I accidentally hit the power button of my laptop and it rebooted. But my external hdd can't be detected anymore. I'm using windows vista. the hdd doesn't show up in 'my computer', shows up in device manager as 'working properly' but is considered an 'unknown' drive in disk management.

Please help! Let me know if you need any other information.

Did you disconnect the external drive and power down the PC?
Do that, then let the compuiter boot without the drive once.

Then while up and running, reconnect the drive. Vista is better than absolutely any other OS, as regards properly detecting new devices.

I have a big problem, my cpu fan no longer works. as of late for the past two years I the fan has made loud humming sounds and sometimes screeching sounds (sounds like two pieces of metal are rubbing together). this happens mostly when i play some sort of media file. I've removed the fan to to check if it was broken or needed replacing but it was fine from what i saw. (it did have alot of dust though) only this morning though i was downloading something and surfing the web when the computer just completely slowed all together for about 5 minutes and then shut down on me. Where there used to be a green light blinking by the power button was now a red light. I think the cpu might of overheat.
The computer is compaq presario and its 5 years old, is this normal for an older computer.
How can i get the fan to work again.
I have a 2 ghz intel processor if that helps. ask if you need any more info

A:511 cpu fan not detected

The fan bearings are probably fried so chances of getting it to work are slim and it will just die again.

Look for CPU heatsink/fans at http://newegg.com or http://zipzoomfly.com
Some good ones are Zalman, Thermaltake, and Arctic Cooling
You will need to know your CPU socket type to choose one.

Edit: Of course that doesn't help you today or tomorrow. A 2GHz CPU may run with no heatsink fan if you open the side of the case and aim a fan at it (while you are waiting for a new one).

hi, I have a pavilion G6 HP laptop. it works fine . I want to give it to my wife so I bought a new 500 GB SATA HDD. fitted it but for some obscure raison it is not detected. I pressed f10 to get in the CMOS , I cant see where the hard drive is. in the main section of the CMOS the only thing I am able to change is the date and the time
.and diagnose memory and HDD. unfortunately there is no HDD there. I looked for SATA configuration , nothing. so I put the original HDD back in the lap top and it works fine. I then connected my external SATA driver reader, it recognises the new drive. so I reopened the laptop and swapped the old drive for the new one , still not detected. I tried installing window and after loading some of the software it stops and a blue screen comes on saying that there is no HDD in the machine. I'm lost. any idea why this happens ?
thank you

Aside from the fact that you should have updated to SP3 already, it's likely a hardware fault.

Uninstall the USB controllers in Device Manager and reboot.

Hey guys. Got a little question for anyone who cares to answer?

I'm trying to format my computer, but when I boot and start up with the Windows XP CD. When i press "install windows" it says HardDrive not detected.

I searched around a bit, and found out I need to press F6 in the install menu in the boot menu and install(?) SATA drivers. But of course I needed a floppy disk with these drivers, but of course I don't have any disk.
