Adobe Shockwave 11.5 & Adobe Flash 10 - do I need?

Q: Adobe Shockwave 11.5 & Adobe Flash 10 - do I need?

All,

Please forgive my non techie ignorance here. Why do I need these?

P.S. My system is Vista Home Premium 64-bit with NVIDIA

I ask because when I go into Programs and Features, neither of these are there.
I do have an Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX and an Adobe AIR (whatever that is).
I also now have an Adobe Download Manager which came when I downloaded the subject two programs.
NOTE: The Flash Player shows as a plugin on Firefox
ALSO: The site told me to uninstall the older versions of these two programs prior to installing the new, but I don't have an older version of either

This came about because I was having a problem with a game that worked until after I installed the latest NVIDIA driver. The game manufacturer told me to install both of these as a measure to correct the issue. It didn't correct it BTW. Other games still work fine.

Soooo, do I remove these two items or leave them as added value for other programs?

Thanks for your help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Adobe Shockwave 11.5 & Adobe Flash 10 - do I need?

Hi, Adobe shockwave and flash are fundamental for experiencing the whole Internet.

Without Shockwave and flash almost no Internet games would work, most online Videos won't work (YouTube won't work unless you ask it to load the movie in HTML 5 from youtube.com/html5) and tons of other stuff wouldn't work to its full potential.

You can live without these 2 plugins from Adobe (1 of my friends doesn't have them installed for moral reasons) but I wouldn't recommend it until HTML 5 really becomes wide spread.

What's the big difference if any between shockwave player and flash player? I see both in the control panel.

However, one says I have flash player 10, but I have just now downloaded their newest version 10.1. And that's been the second time at least for the same update. ??

The other says I have shockwave player 11.5. Both are Adobe.

By the way, in the control panel and over on the right side, there's a column that lists how often used and also where you can delete a program. But with the new version, altho it's listed as loaded on the left side, the right is blank except for the word delete. In other words, no listing for size like all the other programs.

We have IE 6. Say a user goes to MSN.com. The ad on the right is a Flash object. Some of our users will see that object flickering when scrolling up or down on the page or when hovering their mouse over it. It's quite annoying. Almost all users are running Adobe Flash Player 9, but I think I've seen this happen on systems with Macromedia Flash Player 8 as well. Other systems don't have the problem. I've seen this happen on one system and not another while both seemed to have the same Flash objects installed.

Uninstalling all Flash players using Adobe's prescribed Flash Player uninstall tool seems to work at first, but users later complain again. Note that they just about always end up installing Flash Player 9 again, because sites ask for it. I don't believe I've seen this on any XP systems at all, including my own, but most of our users have Win2K.

Does anybody know why this happens or how to permanently fix it?

Thanks,
Hotshot309

A:Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V. 9.0.28.0)

More info: Adobe Flash Player 9, Macromedia Flash Player 8, and Macromedia Flash Player 10 all produce the same result--Flash objects that flicker when you put your mouse over any part of them. Moving Flash objects will flicker constantly while moving and stop flickering when the animation is done. SWF files (at least the one at www.stormwerks.com/linked/stuf/AYB2.swf) work without a problem when using Adobe Flash Player 9.

If I don't have Adobe Flash Player 9 installed, the Win2K machines prompt me to install them for almost any site that uses Flash (I guess most recent Flash objects cannot be viewed with the older Macromedia Flash Players).

Any suggestions?

Also, script error while downloading update to flash player gives an option. Asks if I want to run the script with errors or don't run. I saw that once before on something else a long time ago. Can't now remember what I did or if it even means anything except to people who write programs.

Windows XP Pro/IE8/Firefox/Google Chrome browsers

I have previously had Adobe Flash Player installed in past years and had not used it very often and uninstalled it. Now I find I have certain websites that require it for viewing content so I have recently installed Adobe Flash Player 16 along with Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1 which I believe is needed as a plug-in? (Both of these are the latest versions!)

I am using 3 browsers primarily because IE8 no longer displayes content on certain websites correctly, so I go to Firefox or Google Chrome on many occasions.(In actuality, both of these browsers load pages much slower than IE8 even though they still are supporting XP?)

My issue is that even with these new Adobe installations, all three browsers will not recognize the existance of Flash and Shockwave on my desktop and each browser asks me to dowload them to their individual browsers. It doesn't seem realistic that I should do this and override the existing installations so I have not tried this on any of the 3 browsers.

Why are the Adobe instillations on my XP not recognized and how can this issue be addressed and resolved?

Thank you for any assistenance!

This April I purchased the following noitebook computer: HP Envy M7- N109DX Notebook.I understand this computer is good for gaming, although I haven't used it much for gaming. The Adobe Shockwave Player 12 , version 12.1.7.157 is listed in the Progams section of the Control panel and I understand from some reading I've done that you don't need both the Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave player as the Shockwave is used more for gaming computers. However, I noticed I have been getting Windows security updates for the Adobe Flash Player, which is not installed on my computer but no security updates for the Adobe Shock wave player. Also I've been getting every so often here lately popup requests to update the Flash Player which I don't have. With one of these popups a warning came on that this was a malicious site and not to update. I don't believe this was from My Norton Internet Security as it wasn't so marked and it didn't popup in the right corner of my taskbar as Norton warnings do but filled the whole page. Maybe it was from Microsoft but I  Xed out the warning quickly so I'm not sure where the warning came from.My question : Should I be getting updates for Shockwave Player, and am I right to ignore the Adobe Flash player updates that seem legitimate. Also why am I not getting updates for the Adobe Shockwave Player or do I have the latest ?PS: I'm not sure I posted this on the right board. Holly

If that's the only thing that crashes Flash, then the problem is not with your system and you can't do anything about it. You might want to consider seeing if the game developer has a forum because it could be a known issue.

Are you using IE8, Mozilla, Chrome, Safari?

If using IE8, make sure you click on that little yellow bar beneath the address bar after you click download so you can run the add-on or active-x. Mozilla same thing.

Chrome will do it automatically.

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to download Adobe's Shockwave player. My daughter was playing a game and we were prompted to load the latest version -- I did so -- or so I thought.

Going back into the game we got a message stating that the computer had a missing "Xtra" file and so I figured I'd reinstall Shockwave 10.1. I went into Control Panel and unistalled Shockwave, went back to Adobe's site to reinstall it, but when I click on the button that portion of the screen turns all white and I get that little red box with the X inside.

When I go to Control Panel Adobe Shockwave is no longer in the list to uninstall -- and the website turns white and won't do anything after I click the Install button.

I am running Windows XP; I have tried to lower my security settings and even put Adobe in the list of sites to allow always. But I cannot get anything to work.

I really want to get this running for my daughter. It's for a Dr. Seuss site -- she 7 years old and really enjoys playing on it.

Could someone help me please?

Okay so I've been having this problem for a few weeks now and I've basically tried everything (that I could think of) and I'm having no luck what so ever.

This is the error that I get when loading shockwave applications. This one was for a specific site, with different shockwave applications the missing 'Xtra' files error could vary. Sometimes I dont get the first error, and left with only the second one.

Yes i've made sure I've had the recent version of shockwave, and then I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest FULL version aswell, manually made sure I had all Xtra files and nothing!

When i'm on the guest account user for my laptop, it works fine. However if I use my normal account (the administrator account) nothing works.

Thanks

I have FireFox 30. Not so crazy about that...
I Really like the Older FF Browsers, I believe they were More Stable.
I have adobe shockwave, and On Occassions (5-10 X's/Week) the Browser
Freezes and the page will not finish. I then get a Windows Prompt:
Shockwave has failed to load or is still busy. (Gee, I'm NOT sorry to read this)
I have done the following:
Re-Installed SW
Lengthened the Startup timing for SW to 30 secs, then to a minute.
Ran software conflicts for FF and SW.

FireFox's Web Page Solution:
Start in Safe Mode and then through attrition (one by one) gradually
restart each "Add On". I hopes of finding the conflict (If applicable) and
Or if reproduced?!

Needless to say, I do Not have 2-3 hours to go thru a Rule Out procedure
for a program that may or may not have Repeatable Conflicts due a Single
Add-On or Plug In! That is Absurd!

So My Question (FINALLY!) Does anyone have another solution or is it
NOW the time to either:
1) Take a Shotgun to FireFox
2) Chrome Baby! Where have you been all my life?

A:Adobe Shockwave Freezes

Try re-installing Firefox. Or better take the shotgun.

Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.6.606 19/1/2010
The download is now available but am still waiting on the release notes which should be available soon
do please remember to untick any tools bars offered in this update
Adobe - Adobe Shockwave Player

A:Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5.6.606 19/1/2010

Quote:
There is a critical security bug in Adobe's Shockwave software and everyone with Shockwave installed should upgrade to the latest version.
Shockwave versions up to and including 11.5.2.602 are buggy, version 11.5.6.606 is the latest and greatest. This problem affects both Macs and Windows according to Adobe.
Rather than dig into your operating system to see if Shockwave is installed, Adobe has a Shockwave tester page that reports on the installed version of Shockwave, if any.
If Shockwave is not installed, the results on this page vary depending on your web browser.

I've been trying to load the online game Metal Mayhem World Tour on shockwave.com & addictinggames.com & as soon as the ad ends the Local Storage Settings pop-up for flash player comes up with a message saying "Please uncheck the never box to play". When this message appears on both sites the never box in always unchecked so i click the close button & it doesn't respond like it's frozen but IE 11 isn't frozen because it still works normally. I tried other games on both sites & they load normally so the problem is with this one game. I already tried reinstalling flash player & shockwave player with no change to the games. I'll post a screenshot of the error message so you can see it for yourself.

Additional Info: I sent an email to shockwave.com informing them of this problem so when they respond i'll post it here.

I downloaded Adobe Shockwave Player manually using Firefox.I installed it but when I go to the site that I need it for, it still says "Click her to download plug in"It's an educational site. What should I do to download the player?

A:Install Adobe Shockwave Player

What that site wants you to download is not Shockwave. It is basically a small program = plug-in. It is what links Shockwave to whatever Browser you are using. It should be safe to go ahead and download the plug-in.
