Need to speed up computer for games, even if it looks bad.

Q: Need to speed up computer for games, even if it looks bad.

Hi, I have been wondering whether or not there are some options you can do with windows 10 that allow you to maximize performance, even if it doesn't look as nice. I just want to be able to run my games smoothly until I can get a better computer. Can anyone recommend me anything?

Preferred Solution: Need to speed up computer for games, even if it looks bad.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer was running just fine til about a week ago. I am on a secure network that was before yielding 1/mb/sec download speeds on wireless router. I have tested the network on my laptop and it still runs just fine, however my desktop has become sluggish, the download speeds are down to 30kb/sec and the search function has been taken over by "searchfastfind.net" that Malware Bytes has failed to find. Today the internet would simply die and not reconnect, or my browser would redirect to dead sites. The CPU on any processes doesn't seem high, but my computer is screaming like it's running several programs at once. I am using Vista, all updates installed that are available and needed.

What would I do to figure out the sort of malware I suspect this to be?

A:Suspected Malware (searchfastfind.net) - Ruining Internet Speed and Computer Speed

I ran rkill.exe it found no known programs running, malware still seems to come up empty, but my cpu speed and internet connection are still terrible.

At first games that my gf played run like 10x the normal rate (guess). cheap games like divinci code and some other ones i cant remember. at first i thought it was because my computer is better then what they were design to run on but now some of my games do it. Madden 08 , GTA San Andreas ( only when inside) runs fine when outside running around the city. The games play at a super fast rate. amost like the game is on speed. But then others play fine like Rise of Nations ( which is a few yr old) Crysis, GRAW, And so on.

what i tired
disable crossfire
dumb down the graphics and upscaled them
cant think of anything else.
I had this problem b4 i upgraded to my current setup.

old setup
motherboard = asus a8r or somthing
cpu = amd 64x2 2.2ghz
ram =1gb of great value
vid = x1950 pro

current Setup
Motherboard = Asus m2r32-mvp
Cpu = Amd 64x2 6000+ (3.0) dual core
Video card = 2 x1950 pro 512mb ati radeon running in crossfire
ram= 4 1gb oxz ati crossfire cert. ram
os = Win xp pro sp2

I tried to included everything i could think of.
it's just a weird problem i never heard of a computer being to good for a game.
If anyone can help me i greatly appreciate it.
I wonder if its the processor because if it is it makes me a little worried about upgrading to the new amd 3.0ghz quad core when ever that comes out.

A:Some Games Run Like they Are on Speed

The problem is with your CPU scaling its frequency according to load.
Solution: look for a game patch or set your CPU to fixed speed

For an OS drive the advertised speeds really mean nothing to the average user unless you are going to be transferring large files all day. The most important thing is access time- how long it takes from the time you push the button until the application actually opens. No spinning circles with a good SSD.

I have a dual monitor setup and I try to keep my downloads running on one of my monitors (with bit torrent or just regular downloads) while I try to play a game, even an offline game, and my download speed will immediately drop to say 20 or 30kbps where it was downloading at least 200kbps not a second before I was running the game. If I minimize the game I can watch the download speed dramatically return to normal 200kbps, putting the game back on top of course drops it back down. What the heck is going on? How do I fix this? I've already tried reformatting. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have 2 computers in my house ones my dad's and the other is obviously mine. Um I've come across a problem with networking them so that my friend and I can play NFSU2 over the network. There's one small problem however they can't "see" each other. I can get AOE2-3, Rise of Nations, and one other game I can't remember right now work direct ip and with AOE3 game scanning similar to what NFSU2 uses and work just fine. Question is why won't it work for this game?

I've seen posts regarding similar problems with this game but nothing I extracted from them for this problem worked.

So can any one help as you can see from my computer specs I'm dual-booting Windows 7 RC currently. I haven't tried it from this OS yet.

My dad's PC has got Norton Antivirus 2009 which among my friends is the ultimate sacrilege to the computer industry. They call it bloatware and admittedly the computer takes a while to boot; but there are other factors involved with that. I think that's pretty much it besides AVG free and PC user firewall on my XP machine. Any suggestions?

Oh, I disabled all of these and it still didn't work even after configuring windows firewall through the warning pop ups you get when a program does something for the first time.

Firstly, are you noticing lag in-game?

Secondly, do you have your own router? If so, do you have it secured at all? If you can tell us the make&model, we can probably help you with securing it.

A:Am I Infected? My Offline and Online Games Slow then Speed up

anyone have any thoughts on this one?

Could anyone help me with this? I'll experience random, what seems to feel like, lag spikes, which aren't actually lag spikes while playing games. I'd be playing in offline mode against the computer and I'd have smooth gameplay for minutes before hitting this "lag spike" which would last minutes before it goes back to normal gameplay for a few minutes and then back to a lag spike, and this cycle would continue. This is for games that are extremely below my computer specs as well, so far, this has occurred with TF2 and alien swarm. my drivers are all updated, is this perhaps a software problem since problems with playing games only occurred once i went from windows XP to windows Vista months ago.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to help me out with this problem.

A few days ago my internet started really acting up. Not the connection to the router, the speed would slow dramatically at random points and then come back up to normal speed.

I could deal with this except for the fact that I run youtube.com/grimandjakegames, a gaming YouTube channel. This problem has made me unable to play any online games without the internet connection failing. It will run fine for a while but then all of the sudden it just stops and then I'm disconnected from the server.

I've contacted my ISP but they don't seem to know anything and just had me reset my modem which did nothing.

The reason I am so confused is because nothing changed from when the internet was working fine to when it wasn't. This lead me to believe it was the ISP's problem but maybe some of you could help.

If you need any more info just reply below and I will try to help you out as best I can.

Every 30 seconds to 2minutes, vista refreshes its network connection, this can cause lag in games such as WOW and other demanding applications that run off the internet. Some games have been
reported to even crash because of it, making some almost unplayable. But there are programs to change that safely and easily, and it will make everything internet wise, run smoother.

Both of these programs will fix that...and give you faster Online Games:
(only 1 is required...although i do recommend the first one)

The all mighty Vista Anti-lag:
(2 downloads, rar and exe available):

- Removing 'Lag Spikes' \ 'Lag Peaks'
- No dropouts with Skpye & VoiceOverIP
- Download stuff at full speed without any hassle.
- Less Lag in games and applications on Windows Vista
- Best thing is, its FREE!
Simply select your wireless card if not already selected, click activate VAL, and bye bye lag spikes.

Here is an Example of what this program does
While VAL is inactive, this is your general internet connection
But while activated, this is the result.
No spikes... and no more lagging because of them

Just recently I started to have a problem where my processor speed would drop from its usual standpoint (1.9GHz) to this (600MHz). I can't play any games with it all the way down there and I have no clue what is causing it. This problem confuses me. We've been experiencing slower than normal internet speeds recently. We have Verizon DSL, only 3300 down. Lately we've been getting way lower speeds. I just checked using Verizon's speedtest and it came out as 72 Kbps down and 712 Kbps up.

We have two laptops. Mine is 1.6GHZ with 1GB RAM and hers is a slower 1.2 celeron w/ 1GB RAM. Both running XP. I've tried both wired and wireless.

Speakeasy gives me 292 down and 615 up. Now, beyond the fact that it should be faster down than up, look how slow it is down,.

I've done all the tweaks etc I was on with tech support and they sent a tech today and unfortunately I wasn't home but my GF was. He checked the lines inside and out said there was no problem with the lines.

Using his faster laptop he got a decent 2800 down. When she plugged in her Asus netbook same thing. The tech said the slow speeds were due to the slow computers

Now I know that our machines aren't the fastest and I know that internet speed when it hits your machine is dependent upon cpu speed, but I know we shouldn't be getting such low speeds.

When I lived elsewhere and had cable internet, my current laptop got speeds close to what my cable company said I should be getting. So I am doubting the tech guy even even though the two other laptops got better speeds.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Recently, I reinstalled my Netgear wna3100 driver. Ever since then, I've been experiencing problems with high pings in games where I normally never had problems with. Pages load slowly even just the home page of Google.

I've attached my ipconfig picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:High download speed and signal, high ping in games, slow page loads

To Disable Selective Suspend:

open the control panel
go to power options (you may have to set view to small icons)
click change plan settings
in the window that opens:
click change plan settings
click change advanced power settings, expand usb and ensure usb selective suspend is disabled.

I would also (while the device is plugged in)
go into the control panel - system - device manager - click the properties for it and make sure it's set to always on there as well.
I don't think the ipconfig can tell us much here since it's a data rate problem of some sort and not a actual connection problem from the sound of it.

The two things I mention above will hopefully keep your system from putting the device in 'low power mode' which may , or may not help your current problem.

I'm also curious if your system has recently slowed down in any other ways?

RAM: APACER 8GB DDR3 @ 1333 Mhz

I was trying to play Rome: Total War (a game made way back in 2004) at max settings and at 1600x900 resolution (which is the max resolution of my monitor) and I get an average framerate of 20 fps, often even lower. So I checked GPU usage during the game, turns out it never reached 20%. But when I lowered the graphics settings, the fps immediately jumped to 60. As far as I can tell from task manager, there seems to be high CPU usage during gaming, but it doesn't tell how much exactly. So does this mean higher graphics settings require faster CPU clocks and not just a faster GPU? Or does it just mean there's a stability problem with my PC that's affecting its performance?

I cracked my computer screen a few months ago and lately got it fixed and since then this problem started to apear, i've never had a problem with this before then, I thought it may possibly be from getting a new screen i might need to reinstall my graphics drivers which i moved onto doing and it still didnt help my problem

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53GHz

Hello there, I've got a problem with my computer that's been bothering me for a long time now.
If possible, I'd like any of you to help me identify the problem, and find a solution.

I've never been able to fix this problem, on what should be a perfectly fine computer, bought new in march 2008. Full spec list in the end of the post. OS is Windows XP Pro.

The problem is that the computer is either crashing completely, or forcing games to shut down when I'm playing games. What I've come to think is that my power supply can't handle the hardware that's in the computer, when all the parts are being used maximally. Here's what I'm thinking: When a game that demands the whole computer to work at maximum capacity is running, the power supply will attempt to deliver the power all the hardware parts need to function properly at full speed. 'Say the computer actually need a 550w power supply to function properly, but the power supply i have only works at 500w, it will actually try to deliver 550w, ultimately causing it to "overheat", and force itself to reboot as a means of getting cooled down or simply slowing down to work at normal capacity - instead of keeping on working at more than 100% capacity over a longer period of time, which would end up destroying the power supply altogether. The crashes rarely occur when I do anything other than playing demanding games, basically any game that's got high hardwar... Read more

Now, its slower then my older computer, which I thought was impossible. I mean...This is pathetic. I unistalled AVG cause there was a process running that is supposed to be a Trojan, and a program said AVG was running it. So, I deleted it, was prompted to restart, so I did. It took literally 10 minutes to shut down and restart. At worst, my old computer took 5 minutes. (P4 2.8, 1.5 gigs ram, ATI Radeon 9800). So, how do I fix this? I have a theory its Microsoft forcing people to upgrade by putting out crappy updates. I mean, for my card, the newest driver is dated the beginning of last year...They come out with a new one but its Vista only. Woo...idiots. The first thing which strikes me is that you have 2 anti-virus applications on your computer ( Zone Alarm security suite and AVG Free) Having two anti virus applications running on your PC can give conflicts so I suggest you uninstall one.For the antispyware applications do you have all real time protection enabled?..I first would try Microsoft online test and see what comes up. The freezing can also indicate faulty memory, there for run a Memtest to rule that out.

For a while now i had a problem with my computer crashing when i play moderately computer intensive game. Games like Euro truck sim will make my computer turn off/ crash in a matter of minutes while far cry 4 cant get passed the loading screen except for the first time i played and that time it only lasted 20 mins. This power supply however works most of the time no problem. Its an 850w so power consumption shouldn't be the problem. it may be worth noting i just got a new gpu (gtx 970 used to have a 550ti). Thanks!

Hello everyone, i recently have had having some computer problems which i have no clue why it?s happening. I have looked at many other posts yet could still not fix my problem. I?m new to computer hardware related stuff and to posting. I was hoping someone could help me solve this or give a general idea of what?s causing this to happen

Computer Specs

Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz
ATI RADEON HD 4670 (RV730 XT)(less than one month old)
2 Gigs of DDR2-SDRAM
DELL 0KP561 Motherboard

I recently started to game a lot more on my computer, and decided to get a new ATI Radeon HD 4670. My computer was working great for about two weeks and now whenever I go to load a game my computer restarts its self. It also restarts its self when I try to install any program. It stars up the game or program installer then it goes to a black screen leading to the restart. The games I play range from old games such as Diablo 2 to Bullet storm.I?m sure there is a chance that it?s a virus so I thought I should mention that I run BitDefender deep system scan, Spybot S&D, Avast, and Malewarebytes every day.

CPU is 48C idling (not sure of temp right before restart)
GPU is 42c idling (not sure of temp right before restart)

I have tried:
? Updating all drivers on my computer
? Ran prime 95 torture test for six hours with no errors

A:Computer will not run games or program installations due to computer restarting

Perhaps the power supply is not up to the task and is giving out.

Ok this is my first time on this site and i have little understanding of the computer but let me try to explain the problem as well as i can.

Ok most of my games are freezing up during gameplay such as Everquest freezes up for no reason or same for Guild Wars. I think its something wrong with my computer (but no sure the problem) or it might be something wrong with the graphic card. I can telll the difference between lag of a game and the game just freezing up for no apparent reason.

If you need me to say what kind of computer i have or what graphic card i currently have, please say so.

If there is a program that i need to download to help fix this problem, i trust you guys seeing as you know more than i do.

Can you guys please help me out?

I recently had to reload Windows XP on my computer. Since I have done that, my computer has been running very slow. When I scroll down on the screen, it takes a few seconds to refresh the screen rather than being a smooth flow. Also media download speeds are slower. Is there a way to speed up my processor or something, or something I can reset to speed it up? I have a Broadband connection, but I don't think the connection is the problem because there is the same slow speed when I am not on-line. Any help would be great. Thanks

Can I get a list of items I can try to speed up my computer? It has become very slow over the years. Am I looking at major expenses? I find that I am not able to install new games for many reasons, but I am beginning to think that it is not the games fault but my computer. I don't have aq lot of money so anything you can suggest short of buying a new compter will be appreicated. Regards, William Morgan

Whats your current spec (cpu/mem/graphics/etc)? If you give this, people can get an idea or what u can/cant upgrade and possible costs involved.

As you say, new games require higher minimum specs, so that might well be your problem.

Things that you can do without spending any money though to make the most of your current system are:-
1) remove any programs/data that you are no longer using (especially any startup ones)
2) defrag your drive
3) check for any spyware & remove
4) get latest drivers for your graphics cards
5) You may want to try some more lightweight apps, eg firefox rather than IE
6) Might be possible to do a little bit of overclocking - but read up on this

My computer is starting and running quite slow it is getting old, but still can run most applications.

Following specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Processor 4400+ 2.30Ghz
Windows 7 Ultimate (32)
ATI Radeon DH 3450

I don't play much games on it nowadays mostly use if for development, but the issue is it takes around 5 minutes to start and load everything. Yesterday I removed a bunch of applications using revo-uninstaller, but the Microsoft ones are the issue they commonly leave registry items behind but it's hard to delete them as they are linked to other applications. All my games are stored on a separate internal hard drive (Seagate 3Gb/s). I also use classic theme. How else can I speed the PC up..?

A:Speed up computer (Win 7)

There are many ways to speed up the PC, the obvious one being to upgrade the RAM (if possible?)

1. Turn off Unused Windows 7 Features:

1. Open up ” Programs and Features ” from Control Panel.
2. Click the ” Turn Windows features on or off ” from the left pane.
3. Now uncheck all the Feature that you don’t use in Windows 7 and
restart the system for the changes to take effect.

There are many features in windows 7 that you can disable if not used.
Disabling these unused features in Windows 7 would indeed help in speeding things up.

2. Disabling the Search Indexing Feature in Windows 7:

1. Right Click the “Computer” Icon in the desktop and select “Manage”.
2. Click “Services and Applications” in the “Computer Management” window.
3. Click on “Services”.
4. You’d see a lot of services being listed inside the window. Find “Windows Search” from the list.
5. Right Click on “Windows Search” from the list and choose “Properties”.
6. The “Windows Search Properties Window” will open up. From “Startup type”
click on the drop down menu and choose “Disabled”.
7. Click “Apply” then “OK” and that’s it. The Windows 7 Search Indexing Feature is now disabled.

3. Disabling the Unwanted Visual Effects in Windows 7 to Speed Up more:

1. Right click on ” Computer” and sel... Read more

i am trying to speed up my computer and i noticed that i have thousands of temporary files in my temp. folder. my question is can i delete these temp files without doing anything drastic to my computer?

A:speed up computer

Just close down any programs before you attempt to delete those files.  But yup, it's safe to do and will help free up some space.  But really shouldn't slow down your system in any appreciable way.
