Lenovo Thinkcentre M Series USB

Q: Lenovo Thinkcentre M Series USB

The specification for the M Series, specifically the M910, shows an optional "USB 3.1 Type-C" module. There is no way to order this option and the sales team now says "this option is not available in US". Does anybody know why? I would like to purchase computer with latest technology, so are there suggestions. I am looking at both SSF and Tower versions. Or is there a work around to this limitation? Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a ThinkCentre (SFF) M series, M91P, type 4518ESU, running Windows 10. Can I add internal Bluetooth?

A:ThinkCentre M series M91P Bluetooth

A better way to add Bluetooth to a desktop is with a USB dongle.

Bluetooth is a quickly evolving technology, and to support later devices, you'll need an adapter that supports the latest versions of Bluetooth.    'Newegg' is a good place to look for anything computer related.

I've just spent a few hours trying to untangle the mess around the TPM 2.0 firmware update for the ThinkCentre M910 series and thought I'd share what I've figured out. It may save someone else some time. The article LEN-15552 confirms these models are vulnerable and links to update tools for TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0 as well as the BIOS update required to apply the TPM 2.0 update.  The first issue I discovered is that the BIOS update they link to from this article is for the M710t/s series, not the M910. The correct BIOS update for the M910 is at https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/downloads/ds120436. The link to the TPM 2.0 update at https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/downloads/ds501960 appears to be incorrect as it is labeled "TPM FW Switch Tool for Windows - ThinkCentre M710t, M710s". However, upon examining the contents of the package, it does in fact have the capability to upgrade the TPM firmware for both TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0 in addition to switching the TPM mode. What's more, in my experiments it successfully upgraded the TPM 2.0 firmware on an M910q. (I have not tested any other models or upgrading TPM 1.2.) The previous TPM 1.2 update required that the TPM owner password be present in the registry, which is not the default configuration for Windows 10. As a workaround, it was necessary to perform a multi-step process of suspending BitLocker, setting the OSManagedAuthLevel registry key, clearing the TPM, r... Read more

Well, after a couple months of research, and trying most anything not registry invasive, I have finally decided that the last hope of stutter free audio is to install a cheap sound card.  One is on the way.  No matter what I did for my M81 motherboard audio, install, uninstall, install drivers, from realktek, Lenovo and Win10, (including Win10 tweaks like turning off extra sound options) after about 10 hours of my puter running, audio would go to hell on me and stutter and rumble every few seconds making Utube, news feeds, Amazon Prime and Netflix unusable until I turned off the computer and started it back up.  Not a restart, a shut down.  Probably music too, I don't use my puter for that.Determined to find the problem I then looked at hardware. Opting to upgrade this I5-2500 system anyways to a graphics level just short of heavy gaming, I first installed a 480W Power Supply, then a GTX 1050 Graphics card.  Wow.  Then going for broke on the unchanged sound problem I installed a newer M92p motherboard and replaced my 4GB PC3-8500u with 8GB 10600U.Using "Performance Test" with each upgrade (except power supply) my passmark ratings soared, indicating that I now had a system at 63% of world rated ones.  Not too shabby for a 70 year old couch potato who still plays Links 2003 Gold.  As to my sound problem?  Still as annoying and elusive as ever.  Should I decide to pursue it further I will simply buy a full version of Win7 Pro 64b... "after powering up"? You select F1 at the Lenovo splash screen just after boot to enter BIOs. If you're not able to get in, you are not pressing F1 soon enough.

A:ThinkCentre: Stuck at Lenovo splash screen after lenovo solution bios upgrade

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

What is the cheapest 300W+ PSU that will fit in this machine? I want a gpu but that 240W PSU won't cut it. EDIT: Here is the gpu i am planning on buying. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814932005&ignorebbr=1

A:Lenovo ThinkCentre M81 PSU Upgrade?

Tower or Small form factor... actually posting your Machine Type Model (MTM) would help. If you have the tower, just about any ATX PSU like this one would work since I believe your motherboard as the standard 24 pin connector, but with that card you might want to wait to see if it even needs a 300w PSU, because it may work just fine with you current PSU unless you have a bunch of HDDs installed etc.. If you want a Lenovo PSU that shipped with the M81, you can get a 280 watt like this one  https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Lenovo-41A9684-Desktop-PS-5281-7VR/dp/B00R3NPNN6, which should be more than capable of powering your GPU. Best of luck,

This forum was a tremendous help to me when my laptop had serious problems after 2 years. Long story that I won't repeat.

I now own a Lenovo M53 Thinkcentre Desktop (I couldn't help laughing when I opened the box and saw it's actual size). I'm so used to desktops having a CD drive that it completely slipped by me that the M53 does not have one. I learned from this forum about covers for hard drives to use them externally and bought one for the HD that I removed from my laptop. I also removed the CD drive and was told by Lenovo that the CD drive does not require a cover, I would just connect it via usb.

There is no usb port on this drive, so how would I connect it to my M53 so I can install my software? Thank you. Jane

After several days in the Seventh Circle of Hell with (now resolved) problems caused by AVG, one of my optical drives has failed completely and I'm suspecting this must be connected to the following, new problem.

When I switch on my Lenovo (IBM) Thinkcentre, a "System is starting... To interrupt normal setup press Enter" message appears - normally just for a fleeting moment, and then the Windows logo appears with the progress bar.

Now, in the wake of the two wasted days recovering from the AVG mess up, POST hangs at the "System is starting" message for what seems like an eternity and the boot only starts after a few candles have been lit and prayers offered. After that, all is well and the system runs even better than ever (a major plus after removing AVG).

Okay... research seems to indicate that this is a BIOS setup problem, but the research doesn't tell me what to do about it. I'm 99% convinced the problem doesn't lie with the hardware - and there is a connection with the trashed optical drive.

Any ideas, guys? In my totally untutored way I'm thinking that the startup is somehow confused by the dead drive.

A:Lenovo Thinkcentre hangs on startup

This could be due to some leftovers of AVG. How does the computer boot when tapping F8 and selecting Safe Mode. If it boots normally in Safe Mode download AutoRuns and look for anything AVG left behind in regards to services or drivers. Only uncheck the box next to any AVG item. Try booting after disabling every AVG item.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

If that does not solve the problem then do a clean boot. If clean boot lets the computer boot normally start enabling startup items and services a few at a time until the problem arises.
