Q: Touchpad not working, touchscreen not responding to touch, c...

I bought the PC in July 2015 and it had to be returned to HP 3 times! Firstly the hard drive failed in autumn 2015 and was replaced. The keyboard was failing in june 2016 and was replaced. The touchpad was not working properly in July 2016 and was replaced. It is now conveniently for HP out of warranty after more than 1 year and is worse than ever. The cursor is constantly not responding to the touchpad touch and constantly disappears, it also jumps around the screen. The touchpad was replaced in July 2016 and still doesn't work. Occasionally the touchscreen will fail to respond to touch.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Randomly, out of nowhere, the touchscreen on my Y700 stopped working. Upon a hard reboot it came back for all of 5 seconds a few times and stopped again and now it's just completely stopped. Under the device manager, there are NO Human Interface Devices and a USB shows an error "Uknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) and an error code 43. I thought it was just drivers, but I did a completely fresh install of Windows 10 and still the same error persists. Do you all think this is a hardware problem? I am from the Caribbean and the service here is terrible. I am on my first replacement and had to wait almost 6 months for it because the touchpad on my first unit stopped functioning. I really don't want to go through this hassle again. Any suggestions ? Or is it just a faulty digitizer panel?

I got my Lenovo Edge  15 back earlier this year from service (hard drive fixed) but when it was returned to me the touch screen no longer worked. There is no touch screen driver visible on the device manager either, nothing labled touch screen or anything similair, is there a way to re-isntall the touchscreen? This laptop was a 2 in one, tablet/laptop and used to be touch screen compatible / usable now it doesn't seem to work that way at all.

I've had this computer for nearly 3 years now and it has served as a somewhat problem free laptop minus some problems with the ram and charger. This problem started after I got my laptop back from dell support after they replaced all the internal hardware, about 3 months ago.. They gave me a clean OS install, but installed windows 8 on it, because that was the original software that came with it. After arguing on the phone for about 2 hours with a stubborn technician, he finally agreed to install windows 10 for me. After going through some shady websites, he downloaded it onto a USB and everything installed. I later realised that the copy of windows was not genuine even though I had paid for everything. Pointing it out to the technician, He told me the certificate would activate later. It never happened and I ended up paying again for a product key.
A little while later, the synaptics touchpad driver kept crashing after reboots, and I realised that I would have to reboot my computer twice. This has been going on for about 3 months now. Then, two days ago, all of a sudden, my touchpad AND touchscreen stopped working. Nothing seems to fix it, even a full reboot (sometimes). Once it starts working for no apparent reason, it stops working again at random times. Times working range from 20 seconds to 5 minutes. I have the power switch set to hibernate and hibernating and waking it up seems to sometimes get the touchpad and touchscreen working, but it suddenly stops working lat... Read more

The touchscreen has been working for a while now. The device manager does not show "HID-compliant touch screen." Going into "Show hidden devices" shows a faded HID-compliant touch screen hidden, with no disable function.

A:Dell Inspiron 15R touchscreen not working: HID-compliant touch screen hidden

The greyed out entry represents a device not currently connected or not functioning.
Touchscreens are probably USB devices so you might check those.  My system uses a Input.inf file as the setup for the touchscreen, but I have a different system from yours.

The hinges on my computer were askew, so I sent my computer to the service center. After 3 weeks, they returned my computer to me and told me that the top "chassi" and the bottom cover have been replaced. Not sure what they meant, because the people that fixed my computer were not there at the store to explain it to me, but I'm assuming that it's the top and bottom cover of my computer. I was told that the hardware and the software are still intact, because they didn't have to alter anything during the reparation of my computer. The first thing I noticed when I started using my computer again is that it is very slow. It makes that "thinking" clicking sound all the time, even when I'm not using the computer (No programs/files open, long after the computer's startup). The system was VERY slow. It was laggy and irresponsive most of the time. I deleted multiple useless files and download new antivirus software to make sure that my computer is clean. The computer is no longer laggy, but the "thinking" sound is still there (it's there all the time).  The second thing I noticed is how my touchpad didn't respond to my click. I can move the cursor around perfectly fine, but I cannot click. Neither with a tap on the touchpad nor with an actual click on the touchpad. The touchpad registers my touch, but not my click :/ Does this have anything to do with the aforementioned hardware/software/harddrive/drivers? (My computer terminology is terrible, sorry). Thank you.&nb... Read more

Haven't updated your laptop's trackpad driver lately? Then you may well want to consider doing so, at least if your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics trackpad. As a user on the Hardware Zone forums discovered, the latest Synaptics driver seems to enable multitouch gestures on older laptops that didn't previously support them, including two-finger scrolling, and three-finger click. What's more, while the drivers themselves come from HP, they should work just fine on other laptops with a Synaptics trackpad. Hit up the link below to try it out for yourself.

Hello!
I am very frustrated and angry! My left mouse button keeps malfunctioning, stops working intermittently, I click it and nothing. Then several minutes later it will work again. My cursor jumps around the page, so in the middle of typing it screws up. The scroll keeps locking, if I try to use the touchpad to move the cursor around the screen the scroll is locked and the page scrolls fast and randomly highlights everything. If that wasn't annoying enough when I try to close tabs in a browser (Chrome or IE) the tab is locked and won't close my mouse/cursor just drag it around and I can't unlock. If all that wasn't annoying enough my touch screen is not working properly either, I touch the screen and nothing and then occassionally it decides to work but does crazy stuff like bringing up the on screen keyboard and when I try to click the x to close it by touching it or using the cursor and mouse nothing, and after 20 clicks if I am lucky it will finally respond and close.

I noticed this starting a few days ago after downloading windows 8.1, I was running 8 with not trouble but missed having a desktop and windows 7 features so I thought 8.1 would be better. Initially I called Dell who unistalled and reinstalled all drivers for the touchpad/mouse and for the touchscreen. No luck. Dell says it may be a software compatibility issue but can't fix it remotely. I was offered to send in my pc which they would need to have for 11 days, i cant be without for that long as I... A couple weeks ago, my touchscreen and usb drivers suddenly disappeared when the laptop did an automatic update and the battery drained over night. I fixed it briefly by going into the advanced start up and restoring my computer to a point before it had stopped working. Well, battery drained over night again and drivers vanished. As did the restore point I had used. I have fixed the usb issue, but I cannot for the life of me get this stupid screen to work. In the device manager, it's listed under "other devices" with a yellow warning. Click it and it brings up Code 28. I have been to the update drivers section on Lenovo. Updated things that I have read on here worked for others, nothing. I have uninstalled, restarted my laptop, driver still won't install. I have run diagnostics and they came up with nothing. Researching into the far reaches of the internet is making my head hurt and not yielding much that's relevant to my model. I have had this laptop for years with no issues (except a few slight manageable ones). It's out of warranty, I can't afford a new one, and depending on how much it could cost me, having someone repair it for me.  Can anyone provide some direction to help me fix this? It isn't hugely pressing now that I have a working mouse, just more of a major annoyance when I habitually poke and swipe the screen. I'm fairly tech savvy, but I've reached my "I want to chuck it over a cliff" limit. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Hi All,

Just joined the forum to ask this question because you all seem like a knowledgeable group. I updated to Windows 10 just after it came out over the summer, and it worked great for a month or so. Since then, my touch screen has been acting up on my Dell XPS 15 9530.

At times, it works perfectly. My "System>About" will show 'Touch Support with 10 Touch Points,' Device Manager will list the touch screen under HIDs, and the touchscreen is fully functional. However, for no reason that I have been able to discover, it not only stops working, but the laptop also seems to forget that it is a touch-enabled laptop from time to time. Device Manager will only list Airplane Mode options, and the "System>About" says 'No pen and touch available for this display.'

These days, when it does work, it's on startup, but this isn't always the case. It does sometimes begin working again while I've been using it for some amount of time (it's hard to tell when this happens because there's zero indication that it has begun to work again). Regardless, most of the time the device is convinced it isn't touch supported, whether on startup or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'll try to provide any info necessary to get to the bottom of this one.
Thanks!

Hello

I have an Acer Aspire z3101 all-in-one Touch screen running Windows 7 Home Premium. I am unable to get the screen to respond to my touch. I have checked the system and all drivers are ok according to comp. Using the settings to setup the pen and touch and to calibrate does not work. My touch brings no response at all. I had reinstalled the applications - Windows Touch Pack and Acer Touch Portal which didn't help. Today I done a complete reinstall returning comp back to factory settings and still there is no response. At first I thought that perhaps a driver or file was missing but now doubt that due to the reinstall not helping. Have you any idea what could be causing this problem? I am now at the stage of pulling my hair out and haven't had too much help from Acer. I have had the computer for just over a year now and so it is no longer under guarantee and this has me very worried due to my being unemployed. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Is it properly connected? Should be a video cable and a data cable I believe.

Aside from that, I'd suspect a faulty monitor.

Yesterday, after restarting my PC to finish updates from Windows, and installations from Autodesk and MATLab, my keyboard, touch pad and wireless mouse stopped working. After checking the drivers, I found that the keyboard and mouse drivers had a code 32. So I did a system restore before all the updates. Did nothing for the drivers.I tried uninstalling, updating the drivers; didn't work. Then I used CCleaner to clean up registry errors. No changes.Next, I went into the registry and deleted the UpperFilter values for the keyboard and mouse drivers. Code 32 was gone for HID keyboard driver and the HID mouse driver. But now the ps/2 keyboard driver and the synaptics smbus driver now had a code 10.After removing and reconnecting my wireless mouse's usb, I noticed that fixed drivers come and go with it, so I tried to find the drivers for the mouse to try a manual reinstall for my mouse. Couldn't find them, (Logitech's website was of no help). So I got Driver Booster to help me. The program said my PC had a lot of outdated drivers, so I decided to let the program update them all in hopes it would fix both the code 10 and let my mouse work again. And that's how the touchscreen stopped responding. Driver Booster had paused while downloading the driver for the Bluetooth as Windows Defenders stopped it. When I tried to allow the download, I notice my only method of interacting with my PC had failed.I force shut down the PC in hopes that the problem would be fixed. Didn't work.So now, I can... Greetings,
I use a Planar PX2230 touchscreen monitor with 64-bit Win7. The problem I have is that the touchscreen works great for approximately 10 minutes and then stops responding. I have read elsewhere that this exact same condition has affected other touchscreen
models, but no one has offered a working solution. The only two options are 1) reboot or 2) unplug and plug in the USB cable.
Other pertinent information: The Planar support website stipulates that this monitor is designed
only for Windows 7 and is "HID compliant - no drivers needed for touchscreen operation" (which I guess if it only works for ten minutes at a time, technically they are correct). I am not using multiple monitors/extended desktop.
What has not worked: turning monitor on and off, replacing the USB cable (shorter cable), updating video drivers (none available), turning off power saving, going into Power Options and switching the "USB selective suspend" setting to either setting (neither
makes a difference). Lastly, device manager does not show any issues after the screen stops responding.
I've been living with reinserting the USB cable for a while now since it is not my primary workstation but in the time I've been using this workaround I really thought I would see a solution by now.

Hello guys,
I recently bought a Dell I15 5557 with touchscreen and I got a issue with its touchpad.
There is an option in Windows 10 which turns off the touchpad when an external mouse is present, but it appears that the touchscreen also counts as an external mouse. As a result, the touchpad is always disabled when this option is turned on, even if an external mouse is not connected.
Is there any way to automatically disable the touchpad when an external mouse is connected and the notebook have a touchscreen?
Thanks in advance
Hugo

My laptop automatically updated in Sept./Oct. It took about an hour and had multiple restarts, so I am assuming it was a Windows 10 update. I am not 100% sure though. It is drving me bonkers.

My Ideapad S415 touch screen has suddenly stopped working.  I've had a tech connect to my PC and try a BIOS reload of default settings, plus unistalling all "HID" devices in Device Manager with no resolution.  I've also tried a system restore with no luck. The system properties does see the touch capability. Suggestions? Thanks.

hi Hersh,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

First do a Power Drain
     (If the battery is removable)
Remove AC and Battery and hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Turn the computer back on and see if the Touch capability is now detected under System Properties,
                  If not
I suggest you contact Lenovo Technical Team about the Issue as this may be a device detection issue.

Hello! So my touchpad was perfectly fine until this afternoon, when I realize that I can't click something by just touching the left side of the touchpad. Now I need to press the touchpad, and it's quite bothersome. Is there any solution for this? Thanks before
