Stumped on Connectivity Issue

Q: Stumped on Connectivity Issue

Hello All, I need some suggestions on a specific issue im having and cannot seem to get sorted.
The details: When I connect my laptop to the household wifi it works beautifully however the primary desktop and home phone lose all connectivity. We have a standard net package from TWC at 15mps. When running a speed test without wifi on the line is showing upload speed of 16.9. When connected to wifi the speed drops to 16.2. I do understand that running multiple machines will cause slower speeds but considering the very small drop in connection and the fact that the laptop is being used for read only purposes(no downloads or streaming) it seems to me like the connection at the desktop shouldn't drop out completely? Ive contacted TWC and all they suggest is buying a more expensive package with higher mps, however this doesn't seem like a solution considering we aren't even dropping below the 15mps we pay for now. Both machines are windows 8.1. Any suggestions or education would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am absolutely stumped by this one. Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, new Dell desktop pc, Realtek onboard lan. Problem is no network connectivity at all. I get the unidentified network, local access only message. I am hooked into a router and there are 2 other computers on that router. The router is fine and can communicate with Vista, absolutely guaranteed. It's not a cable, I have bypassed the router and connected directly to satellite modem, same problem. I've tried a pci add in networking card...same problem. A wireless usb adaptor...same problem. The light on the cable connection is green. Have updated the drivers. Uninstalled and reinstalled. I tried every fix on the net (registry changes to Dhcp....ForceBraodcastFlag, reset Winsock, reset ip, flush dns, etc.). Have changed node type to broadcast to no avail, and set ip address manually. As you can see from my ipconfig log, my ip4 address is an apipa generated 169.254.xxx.xxx address. I can successfully ping only 127.0.0.1. I cannot contact a dhcp server to receive a dns address. Have disabled ipv6 for now. I have even reinstalled Vista. On contacting Dell, they refuse to say it is a hardware problem, insisting it is software related....even though it has persisted after a fresh install. The main thing that stumps me is even if the onboard lan is bad why would a pci add-in card and a usb wireless adapter have the same problem? It was working fine and stopped suddenly. Any help much appreciated. Thanks....

My girlfriend and I live in a duplex, one floor below her mom. Back in September we switched our internet providers, and in the process, moved the house's wireless router from her mom's floor to ours. I made sure that the signal strength was good upstairs as I set up things up down here, and after working out some issues (I'm using a wireless router as a "second" router as our DSL modem is a router as well), everything seemed to be going great. Good speeds all around the house, good connectivity, no sweat.

At some point, my girlfriend's mom started having problems connecting to the internet with her laptop. She'd regularly have to disable and reenable her network card (through the Windows Vista connection interface) in order to maintain connectivity, even though the signal showed as strong. I had her do an ipconfig /all, which is attached (the one from December).

Since then, her internet situation has gotten worse, to the point where she says she can almost never connect. I looked at her settings and they seem fine to me, but I'm not an expert. Still, the obvious red flags from my own experiences don't seem to be there. Of course, when I brought her laptop down to our floor to look at it today, the internet worked. I ran another ipconfig /all and saved it, so maybe there's some clues there about all this.

Basically, if anyone has any idea what could be screwing up her connection (when all our other devices/laptops/desktop w... Read more

Hi all, new to the forum so upfront let me say I appreciate any help solving problem. I'm not sure if it's a OS issue, network issue or what. I've been trying to solve for three weeks now and everything I try fails to solve it. Every 2 to 2 1/2 days like clockwork, my PC's network wifi adapter loses connectivity to router. This coincided with upgrading to Verizon Quantum BUT because the way the PC reacts after losing wifi connection, I am deducing that it's something with my PC. If for instance, I lose connectivity at 11 am and try to restart my PC many hours later, I've found the PC locked up. No mouse at times, unable to open up the wireless adapter software (D-Link Wireless AC1000), unable to click on icons and unable to restart normally. I have to push and hold start button. I've even removed the network adapter from USB port (and I've used several to see if that was the issue) and no joy. It's just mind-boggling that it's consistently every couple days.

I have run virus/malware scans using SuperAntiSpyware Professional, CCCleaner, ADWCleaner and even tdsskiller. All clean. I have looked at Event Viewer but frankly am unable to put 2 and 2 together. I'm almost positive all of my drivers are up to date as is Windows 7 updates. My educated guess is that there is some service that is in conflict with something else, but I really have no idea and have looked through tons of forum string to no avail. So I'm begging for someone to help guide me through some troubleshooti... Read more

Does anyone have information on when a security update will be available for the issue?

Ok, for some reason today my wireless connection stopped working. It isn't my router (linksys), because others in my house are able to connect to it wirelessly. I have a desktop computer and I use a wireless netgear adapter, which is has worked flawlessly for the past 4 months up until today. I've resulted to moving the router and the modem to the desktop room to see if it is just a wireless problem. It seems I can't connect either way. Every time I try to connect it tells me there is limited to no connection. I've seen this before, so I typically repair and eventually it corrects itself. This time however, nothing is working. It gets stuck at refreshing your IP address. Barely any packets are being sent and none are being received. I've gone to cmd on run, and under ipconfig it seems I'm missing a default gateway IP.
On my wireless connection network under support, it is listing my IP as invalid as well.

So far I have contacted linksys to confirm it isn't a router issue as well as netgear. Although to get anything out of netgear they require you to subscribe for a 6 month thing worth a ridiculous amount of money, which I refused to do. I have restarted the computer, reinstalled the netgear software, restored the computer to an earlier date, and nothing seems to be working at all. I have in the past had issues with conflicting IP addresses with other people on my network (roomates), but it hasn't come up in awhile. The fact that I ca... Read more

Hey good people of BC,I apologize in advance for the novel-length explanation, but I like to be thorough. So here's the deal. I've been dealing with blue screens that used to be about once a month since I built this rig about 6 months ago. Recently however they have become very common, sometimes happening multiple times per day. After extensive troubleshooting I finally took it into the local computer joint where the owner ultimately decided to wipe it and reinstall Windows 7 after finding rootkits he claimed couldn't be dealt with (I should have done it myself for the cost, but I digress). After the place did the clean install, I took it home and loaded most of my system data back onto it from a backup, which I learned you aren't supposed to do, and it started BSOD-ing almost immediately. I took it back and he said I could have them wipe it again or work on it myself, so I opted for the latter. I reformatted the drive and did another clean install of Windows. This time instead of restoring all the files from the C: drive, I carefully picked and chose files that I thought would be safe (Word docs, pictures, songs, saved games, etc.) and downloaded rather than restored programs like Steam, Origin, and others. Again, BSOD's. After that, I figured I would start from scratch. I did another clean install of Windows and left the external hard drive unplugged. After about an hour of installing drivers and programs, I had another crash. This is the point I'm at now as I don't know how... Read more

Started getting corrupt file error messages once again, noticed the hard drive making odd sound also. I ran updated antivirus scans/spyware scans and nothing was found. Returned the HD and got a Maxtor Sata HD installed it easily windows installed smoothly then within hours of installing drive was making same odd sound as the other, was getting random 10-15 second freezes and was getting messages saying windows registry files were corrupted or missing. I have litterally tried everything, the HD software utilities, chdsk, etc... What could be fouling up brand new hard drives? i even shorted out my bios and started from scratch but each drive I install soon exibits behavior of a failing drive. Anyone have any suggestions?

Okay, heres the thing. I bought a brand new duo core system running windows vista about eight months ago, In that eight months I seem to have constant problems with it.

First thing that happened with it is that it seemed to be dead on arrival. No video feed what so ever. No monitors would work with it. I shipped it back to the guy and we were never able to find out the problem with it.

About four months ago I started to get other sorts of problems with it.

About four months back, I would have problems with the computer freezing up. It would just hard lock. Upon reset, the computer would say something either along the lines of "disk read error" or "error loading windows". Other times It said there was an error in loading a Windows file and windows was corrupt.

At first I thought this was a problem with Windows, so I formatted and reinstalled windows. I somehow got the computer to recognise that it had a disk drive and load windows off the CD. This however didnt fix the problem. So I take it down to a computer shop and they diagnose a bad motherboard. They replace the motherboard and everything seems to be fine.

Fast forward four months. I am starting to have "Disk errors" I open the case, fiddle with the wiring a bit, and that seems to fix it most of the time. Not only that, I am having the exact same type of problems with the computer, as I had before I replaced the MOBO. The computer has crashed three times. Once I got a blue screen er... Read more

me and my mother both have gateways. im not sure that the exact model is relevant. Quite a few smart people are stumped here, so let me begin.

When i power on my computer i get " no input signal" for DVI and VGA, also no signal for both. Like a noob i just started replacing parts.

first was power supply, this helped fix another small problem i was having (computer wouldnt power down) but obviously did fix the issue at hand.

next i replaced the mother board. still nothing.

next i replaced the ram. still nothing

next i replaced my gfx card, still nothing.

so im stumped, i pick up my stuff and go over my mothers. i tear into her computer that i know is working fine. My monitor works fine on her tower, so its not the monitor.

i swapped all of her computer parts into my computer and i still get the same issue (no input/no signal/monitor going to sleep.).

so...

with new
--MOBO
--GFX CARD
--RAM
--PROCESSOR
--HARDDRIVE
--GFX CARD
--POWER SUPPLY
--WORKING MONITOR/CABLES

what else can i do? note that this happens whether i use the VGA plug built into the MOBO or the plug on my installed gfx card.

im just at a loss and ready to sell part it out since i know it all the parts work separately.

READ: MY PROCESSOR HAS 2 BENT PINS, AND I UNDERSTAND THIS MEANS ILL NEED A NEW PROCESSOR PROBABLY. BUT IT DOES NOT EXPLAIN WHY MY MOMS PERFECTLY FINE PROCESSOR DOESNT WORK IN MY COMPUTER. im typing this from her computer that i just put all back together.

correct power to graphics? you would not believe the amount of people who fit 1 power supply lead to a card which needs 2 or use the same rails with molex connectors all over the shop like spaghetti

doubt its that easy though as there are only a few who dare to install mobos and cpu s so you mat need to put it down the the new millennium bug, not sure if we actually had an old bug though

Hello everyone. Recently, my mom (sweet as she is) told me that her computer wont turn on. She usually leaves her computer running, but let me know (after it broke) that it has been mentioning on its case temp monitor that the computer has been getting hot and the light would turn red. She said she 'tried' to turn it off when she saw the warning but never told me about it until now.

I poked around inside and found that the computer wont turn on at all, but there is a green light on the motherboard if the computer is plugged in. Also, the fan on the heat sink for the CPU wasn't spinning because the fan seems to have tilted in its craddle and now wont budge (Perhaps it melted into that position?). My guess is the CPU is fried, but after I plugged the computer in, I put my head close to the motherboard and heard a faint noise coming from the PSU, and I'm not sure if that is normal (don't forget the green light on the motherboard was lit).

Let me check on the specs and I'll give it a post in a minute... thanks in advance for your welcome suggestions

A:I'm stumped: Computer won't turn on, heat issue

I threw the CPU fan away in anticipation of getting a new one.

It is a P5NT-Deluxe (775 Socket) and the PSU is a LSP Ultra 750W ATX Power Supply. These parts are all less than 3 years old, and it has an Nvidia Evga Geforce GTX 280 GPU. I had set the computer a while ago on power saving mode because my mother doesn't game

Any guesses as to what I should do? I don't have much I can swap for to test if something went bad or not. Do you think the board could have fried if the CPU fried on top of it? Do you think I need a new PSU?

Hi guys,

I recently bought my girlfriend a PC so that she can play games which wouldn't run on her laptop. We can't have a cable connection as the property is rented and we're a few floors above the router itself due to the way the house is built.

To connect her to the internet, I bought this PCI card: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0053GR2YI/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought it because I use one myself, the PCs are about 5 feet away from one another in the same room, and I figured it couldn't possibly go wrong. It did. The first signs of this were that it wobbles slightly in the slot for some reason, no matter how snugly I ensure that it's sitting in there, or how tight the screw is. Before we upgraded our internet, hers would barely connect. I explained this using the fact that the superhub we were using is notoriously terrible.

We then upgraded to a far better router and connection, and the issue has only really compounded itself. It's now a solid 5 bars for her all the time, whereas before it was unstable. However, when she connects to the wireless, it becomes terrible for everyone else. If she's connected and a page is (eternally) trying to load, no-one will be able to load any other pages, the internet might as well be dead. When she disconnects, it sorts itself out pretty soon.

I'd think it was the hardware, especially given the way it wobbles a bit in the slot, but I swapped her card with mine and t... Read more

Hi guys,

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400, service pack 3.

Up until Monday, my sound was working fine. Now I simply can't get any sound out of my laptop whatsoever!

I am wondering whether someone has somehow changed settings or volumes I don't know about so if anyone can suggest anywhere to look I'd appreciate it.

I know my soundcard AND speakers are fine. I checked my Device Manager and the device is fine. I also ran a diagnostics check at startup.. as in the F12 key and checked the sound.. I heard a few melodies, clicked the 'yes' I can hear button and the test was complete..

So why, when I turn on my laptop and play a song/video/etc.. can I not hear a single sound?

Obviously, my laptops general settings are not muted.. I have checked.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi all,

This is my first time ever posting here, mainly because I've almost never run into an issue I couldn't solve on my own or via documentation on the web. I run a web hosting service and also an image hosting service, and have been hosting/building sites since 1996. Before that I spent a few years as a systems integrator (fancy term for tech who builds computers from scratch) for a big computer company.

I have a customer on my image hosting service (I didn't post the URL because I don't want anyone to percieve this as spam) who has been with me almost 2 years. She has always used WindowsXP / AOL and has never had a problem.

Last week her PC crashed and she got a new laptop. Now she cannot upload photos to the service - it gives her an "Upload Failed: possible reason- File type not supported." error. (that error normally only happens when a user tries to upload something other than a .gif, .jpg, or .png. which are the only acceptable file formats on the image server).

I had her email a .jpg file that she was trying to upload, I logged in to her account, and it uploaded perfectly for me. Also, no other customers of my service are having this problem.

So now I know one thing for sure - the problem is on her end and something to do with her new system.

Then it occurred to me that AOL's proprietary image compression feature tends to turn any image into .art or .bmp. So I'm going to call her and suggest that she disable AOL's... Read more

Opps, maybe not so unique since I just noticed an ENTIRE forum for browsers...perhaps moving this is appropriate...if so, please do. I will be reading up in there.

Its interesting because I can't find any mention of it anywhere on this site. Specifically browser connectivity is lost after a little while (guessing 7 minutes, though it may be a number of browser pages displayed trigger i went 3 hrs today) after I start browsing. If I don't start a browser, the death clock doesn't begin until I start browsing. Now, at the same time, all shares, the other machines on the network, work fine. Also if I am playing an online game, I will not have any issues. Just IE and firefox can't display pages and other programs (like updates of AVG) are soon to follow.

***Important to note this is new, the network was fine for over a week before this started a couple days ago.

I notice, when it works, net info states Homegroup - ready to connect (I am using a workgroup to connect to other machines) but last night, during a browser outage it said it was connected. I notice now it calls my workgroup a homegroup (I think is used to say workgroup)

I've recently (in the past few weeks) been having trouble with Internet Explorer, version 7.0.5730.11. When I first open the program, the page is blank, and the status bar (bottom of the IE window) briefly flashes "Detecting proxy settings" and then sits at "Connecting to site 74.125.93.104" for several minutes before displaying the typical "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" screen.

In dealing with the problem, I've found that whenever I get the "Connecting to site" message in the status bar, I immediately close IE, then reopen it. Sometimes the first time I do this results in Google (homepage) loading, but most of the time I must repeat this proces several times (up to about 10) before IE loads Google.

When already working properly, I've noticed that IE has no problems opening links in new windows or tabs. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this problem?

I play C&C Renegade (on WOL) religiously. About 2-3 weeks ago, my computer got virused and i had to reset a bunch of things, and i think something messed up my 'net connection settings or something, because since then Renegade has been disconnecting randomly (always at the good times, too).

to further verify, my AOL/MSN (well ok, i use trillian) has been experiencing these disconnects too:

Good morning everyone,

slowly but steadily I am nearing the edge of sanity. I am not overly technically gifted and, to my dismay, certain members of the WoTC support staff aren't, either. I'm not sure I actually expect a solution as much as I hope for an explanation of an issue that's presented itself to me.

The issue is as follows: One particular application (namely Magic the Gathering Arena (yes, I am aware that there's a game subforum, but this really is a networking issue - promise!)) refuses to stay connected to the host for any amount of time. In these trying times (being a teacher and confined to my home desk due to Corona) I spend way too much time on online games, none of which are giving me any sort of grief. I'm on a gigabit fiber connection that's, similarly, never acted up on me before. But for some reason I have not been able to maintain a connection to the MtGA host for longer than about 2 minutes in the past 3 days (never had an issue with the game before). I contacted their support who, as they usually do, presented me with a list of off-the-shelf solutions. Suffice it to say, none of them worked, except for the last one.

A VPN. I'm in Germany and the CSR suggested I try a US-based VPN and this fixed it. I don't plan on making use of a VPN as a long-term solution, but at least I get to scratch the itch in the meantime, right? Well, I wrote back to the support who said, and I quote:

Hi,
I am currently trouble shooting a network problem for a medium size company, aprox 250 users. The issue is as follows:
A connectivity problem occurs on random clients which leaves them with an ip address received from DHCP server but the client only has connectivity with its own vlan. (DHCP server on different VLAN) The switch has ip helper set up so the communication to get an ip address is being done via the switch and on to the DHCP server.(The primary function of IP helper) The client can't ping anything outside its own VLAN.
Our only work around is to assign a static DHCP ip address on the DHCP server using the MAC address of the client. Issue an ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew on the affected client to get the assigned static DHCP address and full connectivity is restored.
There is a mix of Cisco and 3com switches, mostly Cisco with a Cisco 3750 multi layer switch at the heart of the network.
I have analysed the configuration of the devices and everything looks good.
I know its hard to diagnose from this brief description but any similar problems experienced and solutions discovered are appreciated.
Thanks

Hope someone out there has come across this... Bellsouth (DSL) using a Westel Modem directly connected to the Computer (ethernet), no switch, hubs, etc.... All connected to a UPS which I turn off nightly. When you first turn it all on, cannot connect to Internet, E-mail, etc... The DSL Modem shows steady power light, steady sync light and ethernet light flickers as it is working, but nada... disabled Firewall (Zone alarm) but nothing. Cannot ping or get to the outside. Most of the time, after a reboot it will then work as it should. No viruses on the computer, all updates are done (Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, IE6 with all updates, etc). It is becoming frustrating to say the least, and takes nearly as long as my dial up connection did just to get online... I contacted Bellsouth who tries to claim it is a hardware issue which I do not agree with... I changed the DSL modem to it is always on, independent of the computer and that didnot help... Next I am going to try a different Ethernet card... All dsl modem updates are done as well... Has anyone else had this problem? Please advise.. thanks

how do you have everything configured?

Can you see the wireless router from your laptop?

Ideal setup is to have the "uplink" port (labeled as WAN or Internet" from your wireless router going to one of the LAN (or "Ethernet") ports on the DSL modem.

Hey all,

I'm finally posting here after having read around on the site before and gotten good info.

I set up a wireless home network between two computers (a laptop and a tablet) a few months ago. The laptop is the "base" computer and the table has a wireless receiver; the router is a DLink 524.

I never had any connectivity issues (internet) until last week on the laptop when my free version of Zonealarm started acting screwy and not displaying any info when I would open the program up. I updated the version, and since then cannot use the internet while Zonealarm is running. I'm confused, though, because the tablet has Zonealarm and has no problems accessing the internet at all. DLink tech support tells me that the problem is in the configuration of Zonealarm, and that I should contact them, but I'm running the freebie version and so don't anticipate getting much help there.

Is this an issue of ports (opening/forwarding)? If so, I have no experience in that and would appreciate if someone could take a second to let me know what they think should be done. I'm willing to just scrap Zonealarm and try something that works better with the router if need be, but I'm willing to bet someone who knows what they're doing could fix this easily, and that the problem is with me.

Thanks so much,

Jason

A:Odd connectivity issue

Go into the router and turn off the blocking of computers not running ZA. I'm not sure if this is the problem but I do know that I've seen such as problem in DLink routers before because some models now have a feature(some added with firmware update) which will allow you to configure the router with ZA so they don't interfere with eachother, it aslo has a feature which will let you block computers not running ZA so that you don't have unprotected machines on the network. While this is a good idea in theory, it also causes problems for people who don't know it is there.

BTW, the setup you mention where one laptop is "base" as you call it, is incorrect. When using a router to share your internet, the router itself is the server and all computers are the clients. This misconception causes a lot of confusion and sometimes makes it difficult to diagnose a problem when you call one machine a "base" or "server" when it is not.

Hi, Can anyone please help, I have a problem on my son's computer. we have lost access to the internet I just keep getting a message stating "limited or no connectivity" I have tried resetting the network wizard in Windows XP but to no avail, I have tried the repair connection facility but that says " unable to set IP address" We connect through a D link wireless router. my computer down stairs connects fine.
I don't know if this is connected to the problem but when I boot up the computer I get a message stating that Rundll C:\PROGRAM~1\NEWDOT~\NEWDOT~1.DLL is missing or cannot be loaded has that caused the problem?
Thanks in anticipation.

A:No connectivity issue

You have spyware

NEWDOT is spyware that hijacks your web browser and host file. You need to remove it. First you need to remove this key from the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\new.net startup
After you have deleted this key you need to reboot your system. Then run msconfig and go to startup and stop these process
(may or may not exist):
ndnuninstall4_50.exe
ndnuninstall5_20.exe
ndnuninstall5_40.exe
ndnuninstall5_48.exe
uninstall3_88.exe
uninstall4_50.exe
uninstall4_80.exe
uninstall5_48.exe
uninstall5_20.exe
wcmdmgr.exe
Then you will need to do a file search for newdot(here is an example list)
newdot~1.dll
newdot~2.dll
newdotnet3_36.dll
newdotnet3_70.dll
newdotnet3_88.dll
newdotnet4_50.dll
newdotnet4_85.dll
newdotnet4_88.dll
newdotnet5_20.dll
newdotnet5_48.dll
newdotnet6_22.dll
newdotnet6_30.dll
newdotnet6_38.dll
You will have to unregister each of then and then delete them. If you don't know how go to this site http://articles.networktechs.com/111-p1.php
Then remove the folder %program_files%\newdotnet
And to finish it up run a regcleaner if you don't have one here is a link to one

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have just bought a new router and am trying to connect it. I did the basic set up with an install disc to the problem is that when I connect to the Wireless network it only gives me limited access to the internet for instance I am able to use Skype and other applications that rely on internet connection, but when it comes to web browsers (both Mozilla & Safari) it shows the url section loading but only ever makes it mid way (the page always stays blank) . I also have access to the router settings using 192.168.2.1 I cloned my MAC address on the router settings as that was prior advice.

If anyone could help it would be amazing..

router settings also say that its connected

Hello all,

I am new here but hoping still that someone might have the answer to an ongoing issue within our network.

I am dealing with a large network (large in the physical size not necessarily how many PCs connected). There are 4 different buildings that connect with a fiber optical connection. Each building has it's own internet source. I deal with two of these buildings. The connection runs underground. When I link our two buildings, the networked PCs communicate but the internet connection is lost.

I am not sure if the other buildings have these connection issues but I've noticed that at one end it looks like an adapter is connecting the fiber optical possible to a cat5 looking jack. Is it possible that that's the issue?

Have you heard of this before. I happens to be a POS system that we need working between the two buildings. So apart from one or two office computers on the network that needs internet we need it for processing credit cards as well.

Any help will do. Sorry if I wasn't all that specific or clear... I'm still new at this stuff.

Thanks!

Dana

Hi Everyone.
I have a Netgear JFS516 switch which is directly connected to the D-link DES-3026 switch. The problem is up-link lED on netgear switch keeps blinking for 1 minute and then goes off, resulting no network connectivity on the part of Netgear JFS516 switch.

These 2 switches connected with straight cable and I crimped the cable on both side but the problem still persists.

Did you test the cable with a cable tester? Sounds like a cable issue or perhaps a bad switch. Did you take the switch close to the other switch and connect it with a short patch cable as a test?

My laptop which i have recently installed a fresh xp copy on, is having internet connectivity issues. there is only 1 driver that works for the wireless lan and 1 driver for the wire lan that but that wont work for some reason but im not concerned as long as the wifi works on it. the issue is that every 2-5 mins the wireless disconnects, and reconnects taking anywhere from 1 min - several mins to aquire ip address. i could understand if it was clear across my home away from the wireless router, but its stationed right next to the router, so there should be no interferrance problems. i use halfdone's unknown devices driver informer and that tells me that the proper drivers are all installed on my laptop and that i dont need anything else. device manager confirms. i dont understand why my wired internet wont work if it has the proper drivers, and i dont understand why the wifi cuts out like it does. would you assume that its the router ( though its brand new and doesnt cut on my other wifi systems ) or the computer?

I am currently having a very frustrating internet connectivity issue with my windows install. I cannot access anything on the internet, through any means, ports, or programs possible on my windows install. I can see all my lan stuff perfectly but cannot access anything outside of that.

I have multiple computers hooked up going through this one connection onto the internet without issue, so the problem is specific to this computer only. Well actually to this (Windows) operating system on this computer only. I can access everything fine on my Ubuntu install on the same computer, yet when i try and access anything on my windows it does not work.

I have tried rebooting my router, my cable modem, my computer and it still doesn't work. Anybody have a solution to this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The title must seem very vague, and sorry if it is.

I have been trying to troubleshoot this all week. When I had initially installed Windows 7 everything went fine with no problems. On the get go, a generic Broadcom driver was installed on my wlan nic, considering the chipset. But this worked fine, through my wrt150n router I was getting at least 20mbps on multiple speed tests.

Also, generic drivers for sound were installed (crackle pop). I fixed that by installing the official vista drivers from creative. That worked excellent, but there were many features missing, such as the ability to switch my flexijack from line-in to mic.

I installed a driver from the creative forums by daniel_k, and every feature on my sound card magically worked. However, my internet connection completely broke. And by broke, I mean mysteriously vanished. My NIC would still see and connect to my wireless LAN, and the network and sharing center was reporting local and internet. But nothing on firefox, IE8, or even AIM/MSN.

Logically, I disabled the windows firewall first for both public and private networks. No luck. Restarted, and still no luck. I uninstalled my NOD32 antivirus, restarted, and still no luck. I reinstalled the broadcom driver for my wlan NIC, and no luck. I installed the linksys-branded drivers for my NIC, and still nothing. Keep in mind that I always get "local and internet" on my wlan network in the network and sharing center. Frustrated, I slowly uninst... Read more

A:wmp300n connectivity issue

Seems like this issue may be solved. I never considered a hardware issue, as it would have seemed highly unlikely because it happened so soon after installing win7 beta.

The connection to the antenna is a bit iffy. As I run a speed test and play with the wire into the antenna, it jumps up and down. This seems to be a direct relation. I'm RMAing the NIC to linksys, and I will update everyone with the results later.

Please don't mark this as solved just yet, though.

I've been having problems connecting to FF and IE after installing several Windows updates. On Firefox I can only connect to my university email page, every other webpage is either blank or gives the "connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" error. IE states that it cannot display the webpage and flashes ieframe.dll error in the bottom left corner when loading up. Diagnostics check found no problems and all applications that need Internet connectivity, such as AIM, work perfectly fine. I've tried doing a system restore to the settings before the update, uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, turning off firewalls, clearing cookies/temp internet files/cache, disabling Phishing filter in IE, disabling IPV6, etc. and nothing seems to really work. After clearing data IE did seem to work briefly last night, but stopped working this morning. Any suggestions on what else I can try? Thank you.

A:Firefox 3.0.5 Connectivity Issue

Well the same this just happened to me about 2 hours ago when I updated Firefox and none of the solutions posted on this website worked for me. (As I was having a major panic attack) I tried restoring my computer to yesterday's settings, go to

Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore->Next->**Select a Restore Point [Click on the day before you updated Mozilla Firefox]->Click Next->Click Restore and it will automatically restart your computer do not press anything else. It may take a couple of minutes.

Restoring your computer is like going back in time so to speak. Your computer will be in the exact same state as it was the date in which you choose. Don't worry THIS CAN BE UNDONE. Just go back to the same place and click undo last System Restore (though you shouldn't find any need to). This method has worked for me several times as a quick-fix for times when my computer has crashed or I've downloaded things that have messed up my computer.
Hope this helps!

Hello,

Recently, I have been experiencing an issue with maintaining connection when my wireless laptop is near my Linksys router. The connection continues failing when close to the router, but I stay connected whenever I move away from it.

My laptop is an HP Pavilion running Windows Vista...I am using a Linksys WRT110 wireless router which has the latest firmware update installed. My WIFI adapter is a Broadcom 4322AG...which has the current drivers installed.

I have my router set to channel 11...the least traffic in my area is using this channel. The RSSI number runs between ( -65 to -75) when away from the router, & about -38 RSSI when sitting next to the router.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar situation & perhaps offer a solution.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi! I have a strange one here, I think. The internet is working fine in our house, but there is one website that cannot be accessed on any device. I am getting an "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" error in Chrome, and similar messages in other browsers. The website works fine if I am on 4G on my phone. I have tried resetting the modem and router, cleared my cache and cookies, and changed the DNS settings on my wireless connection to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). None of this has fixed the issue. The website in question is http://www.reptilebasics.com. This started about a week or so ago - I placed an order with the company from my computer on October 12. Any ideas?

On my laptops, I am connected wirelessly.Only on my desktop do I see this issue: Quite often, a page will sit at Firefox's "Problem loading page" until I click the "Try Again" button a couple times and it works. This happens to sites like Google, Yahoo!, and many others. Then sometimes, a page will be loading (visibly, you can see the page coming up) for about 3 seconds then switch to that page, where I'll again have to refresh until it works. This only happens on my desktop, which is using a stronger (wired) connection. Why?
