I have a Toshiba Satellite  running windows 7. I got the computer from my father and had to remove a lot of malware and games. I wish i could do a factory reset but i do not have any of the factory disks. It seems like there are a lot of processes running and the physical memory is almost always at 100%. Any help would greatly be appreciated . Thanks in advance.

A:Toshiba laptop running super slow. physical memory running high

You can first try this:
http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

Then you can try removing all the junk files on it using CCleaner or BleachBit or something similar. If that doesn't help, I would recommend dual booting this PC with Ubuntu 14.04. I actually published a tutorial on doing that here:
http://69.107.93.24/Blog/52015/

You could then use that as your primary OS.

I recently dropped my Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop, after realizing the hard drive was ruined, I went and got a new one. I had a hard time getting Windows Vista installed but after 3 times of trying (reformatting before the 3rd time) it finally worked. I had to reinstall driver for my wireless and Ethernet card. I am running Vista, BUT after the new hard drive everything is running SUPER slow.
There isn't any abnormal sounds coming from the computer and upon inspection the only thing I found wrong was the hard drive.

I use my laptop to work and it not working right really is cutting into my paycheck so someone please help.

It started few days ago. My laptop became very hot and very slow with just nothing apart from google chrome with 1 tab open and Windows Live Messenger running. I have tried running scans with MBAM, superantispyware, avira to run the scans and no virus were found. I had to use Balanced mode and even when watching a movie it lags every few minutes. is there any solution apart from formatting? the hard disk part is the hottest and sometimes it just shuts off due to overheating.

I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, core i5 2.27 GHz, 4GB DDR3.

So I have my laptop (Acer Aspire 1551-5448) that I solely use for school work.
As of lately however it has been running rather slow especially at startup.  It will take about a total of 8 minutes to power up, reach the desktop and have functionality.  I noticed that there is an svchost.exe service that is using up a lot of my memory, approximately 200,000k.  When I click on the performance tab I see the graph of the dual cores performance going up and down erratically.  I have attached the addition FRST file to this post.  Please help, I really need this old computer for my school work. Thank you.

Thankyou for sorting out my Desk top. (From which I am writing this.)

Now, my office laptop has gone on strike. It is an HP Pavillion XP. I have already downloaded HihackThis and the Analyzer, to C:\ HJT, but I am not sure how to disable the 'system restore' to begin the log.

It was going slow before I took a short break, and yesterday, having taken an age to start up, it then kept sticking. At one point I timed it taking 3 mins to open the menu from 'Start' and then another 7 mins to open the 'Programme' menu!

I did an NAV Update- 3 times -as it would not install after downloading. So, I followed the Symantec site advice and downloaded the Intelligent Updater direct. Then I ran LiveUpdate again. I assumed the virus updates would be complete, but they ALL updated again. But, this time successfully. Then I did a scan, but all was OK. I noticed, however, that the laptop was working much better after this action, at least it IS working.

Recently, (before this) after failing to download SP2 on Dial-Up, the hard drive crashed. I took it to a 'PCDoctor' had the disk backed up, and they re-installed from the CD QuickRestore System Recovery, before re-installing from the backup copy. (In fact, I had to return it to be re-done as they had obviously used their own CD not my original one.)

I have just discovered from the above NAV scan that they copied all my old programme files to "C:/Esteban/... " along with a mess of other stuff (naturally, my important busi... Read more

Welcome back to TSF...

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Please download Ad-aware SE and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go here to get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection. Also make sure to customize the settings in Ad-aware for better scan results. Run the scan and fix everything that it finds.

Download and install Spybot S&D http://security.kolla.de/. Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available.

Hopefully someone can help. I have been given my sisters laptop to check over as i'm the most technical minded in the family (but still very basic knowledge). I had AVG Free and Zone alarm installed but I think my sister had removed them. I have reinstalled both, ran the scans, installed and ran adaware se and spybot search and destroy with no major issues. The main problem is that everything is running extremely slow. From starting up to running IE (which is the most the machine really does) it takes much longer than it used to to work.

I have attached a HijackThis log below. I would be grateful for any help.

Hello, my laptop is running so slowly that I can barely function. I have an HP dv6000 running windows xp.

I've run Webroot anti-virus and found no viruses or any spyware I needed to clean. But my Outlook just freezes and goes white screen and Firefox is going so slowly, I've just given up going to any websites. I opened Internet Explorer thinking that might help, but no.

Another weird problem is I went to Control panel--Add / Remove hardware and my programs never even show up. I wanted to remove the Gmail Notifier that I downloaded and installed yesterday.

Also, there are a ton of processes running that are programs that i thought I had removed.

Could someone take a look at my log and give me some feedback please? If you need any additional info, please let me know.

I recently cleaned my computer of dust using compressed air now the cpu is running very very slow.

A:CPU is running super slow now

Do you have benchmarks, or any readings what so ever to prove this. If not that's where we need to start, if you clean it up it should be able to have more room to breathe so it should stay relatively cool, can you monitor temperatures?

Is there a specific application you where able to run amazingly fast and now it doesn't work like it was before?

I recommend you going back to your tower and make sure everything is nicely connected and plug in.

A few days ago I was watching TV on my computer (Media Center) when everything went black and froze up for 5+ minutes. I had to do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to get it unfrozen. When I re-started it I got a message saying "The system has recovered from a serious error" or something like that. I immediately ran Spybot and Avast anti-virus. Spybot came back clean and Avast came back with a worm/virus and one adware which I moved to the chest. The same day the latest Windows Update downloaded and installed.

Ever since all that happened my internet is either veryyyy slow or comes back that it can't load the webpage I requested. When I get the can't load I click on refresh and bang the page usually comes up instantly. Just to give you an example when I tried to register on your website the first 2 times I clicked on submit registration I got the page cannot display then finally the 3rd time it went thru. This is just so frustrating and I'm not sure where to look or what to do to troubleshoot the problem . We have a second computer in our house hooked up to the same cable via router and there are no problems with that computer at all. I also tried to do a system restore and it won't do it...... it goes thru all the steps then when the computer comes back up it says the restore could not be completed.

Please help me figure this out !!

Thanks
Stace

Go to the Malware removal and hijackthis board
http://forums.techguy.org/54-malware-removal-hijackthis-logs

Explain your situation and post the log .
If you can find in the avast log what virus and adware it found that would be an item you should include.
It sounds like the virus may have changed some things on your computer which are causing this problem.
Also, empty your temp internet files , and any cookies you do not absolutely need (tools , internet options/ general ) You may just have some bad pages cached.

Its Windows XP pc that has a stock Hard drive of 70 GB and stock ram of 256 (just to give you an idea of how old it is) its ONLY used for web surfing (as no one with a brain would try doing anything "heavy" with those specs). Yet unlike day one (when it ran just fine) now it cant even do that. WIndows start up is slow but bearable, clicking on IE literally takes 5 mins before the browser finally pops and about twice as long for a page to fully load (despite having great broadband internet). Also when IE is tarting a get a pop up saying most of my memory is being used (which is probably why its slow). Yet if I close out of IE (which isnt even updated to IE 8 I believe) and try Firefox instead IT runs just fine and no "low memory" pop up. So I'm gonna upgrade its RAM to 2gb (the max its motherboard can handle) and see if that makes a difference in speed. While Im waiting for tha to arrive may as well make sure viruses or malware are ruled out (after all like i said on day one it it functioned "fast" and fine, so SOMETHING had to change between now and then to slow it don). Lastly it still has 60 GB free out of 70 GB total which means hardly any room is being used yet it runs as slow as it does.
So Ive done the scans here are the logs (theres lots of them):

I posted on another site that offered help, but no one has even looked at my post yet. They required a RSIT run, which the log.txt is below. I also have hijack this and can run it real quick if you still need it. I run Super AntiSpyware , like I always do to see if there is a problem and also MBAM, but running both and clearing them didn't help any. Maybe it isn't malware, but there is definitely a problem because it.....is.....soooooo.......sLooooooowww!! Please let me know if you need that hijack too. I was just under the impression that RSIT and HIJACK THIS are the same type program.
I would appreciate ANY help. Thank you. Kimberley

First time in ages.. My PC is running SO incredibly slow. Not sure what is going on. I have a good anti-virus on it so unlikely a virus slipped through although my PC is running painstakingly slow. It takes ages for a page to load and on top of that many times in a day the pages freeze, and then after a little bit unfreeze. Very annoying. This only started happening today but I find it very frustrating. Can anyone help me? I do not want to run EasyClean as have been told this can sometimes delete necessary items from the registry.

Thanking you in advance.

My friends computer is running really slow all of the sudden. It's maybe a year old and he has Windows XP-Home and is currently using America Online 8.0 as is ISP. I defragmented his harddrive already. I'm thinking he must have all kinds of spyware on his computer or something so I downloaded Spybot S&D and it downloaded and installed but for some reason at the very end when it said finish and scan, and I clicked ok, I got this Error message that said access denied or something like that. And when I click on the shortcut icon on the desktop it wont open up-I get the hourglass for a second and then it goes away but nothing opens. Any suggestions on what I should do or what the problem might be? Any info would be helpful.
Thanks!

A:Computer running super slow!

Try rebooting into Safe Mode and see if Spybot can do its work in there. Also download AdAware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com update and run that in Safe Mode as well. My PC is running very slowly all of a sudden. It will peak to 100% CPU usage for no reason, and my McAfee virus scanner will come up and say it has been turned off for no reason (6-10 times daily). I have run McAfee after ensuring it is fully up to date, and also MalWare and neither of them are finding any problems. I have nothing major running that I can find, and this happens when trying to open something as basic as FireFox.

Any help is greatly appriciated.

I see you have only 2 GB of ram and thats its fairly slow - that might be your "bottleneck". Win 7 likes lots of ram. And You are running 64 Bit windows so you need even more ram. You dont mention your processors speed in your "System Specs"

Good luck joelkat

Ok, I am having a major problem - here is what is happenning: this is the machine Pentium Dual Core, running Win XP Pro

EI is running Super slow.
Firefox is running Super slow
Outlook Express is also running Super slow to the point that the connection times out.

Here is what I have done:

I ran these programs - ATF Cleaner, SuperAntispyware - free addition, Adaware 2007 - free addition, AVG Rootkit - free addition

The system is running fine - I am just having this major slow down with any type of internet program. The internet connection is fine because I am typing this on another machine on the same internet connection. The internet was fine last night - I didn't notice this problem until this morning when my wife woke up.

Please help!!! Thank You in advance!!

Hello

I'm totally nervous about this. I'm not that smart about computers. My computer started running very slow yesterday. It seems to hesitate when doing anything. In the web browser, the little thing I call the 'thinking circle' goes around and around for a minute then firefox will go into a "not responding" mode. Another odd thing is Netflix instant is skipping. Yesterday morning i could watch a movie in IE and check email in Firefox simultaneously. By 5pm i could barely do one at a time. I ran Norton Virus and some sort of Norton deep clean thing. It turned up nothing. But I have this weird feeling it is a virus or something. Any help would be appreciated. I just started an online class and i don't have the $150 to take this into the computer guy.

Thank you in advance
Ashbery

Hi...I was helped with a BSOD problem in the XP section...I finally figured out it was a driver in my external drive causing the crashes..I removed it and now the computer is stable but very slow..Opening explorer or any programs or website takes about 20 seconds..I scanned with several malware programs and all were clean except 2..Spyware doctor claimed it found TDSS and Advanced System Care found Win32swizzor.au but said it removed it..A second scan then was clear... I also ran a complete system scan with Avira and no virus was found. I can't get to the bottom of why this thing is so slow..I checked ram with Memtest and it showed no errors..The computer runs fine in safe mode with networking. Is there a way to completely rule out malware or virus problems? Thanks for any help.

First of all, you are running HijackThis out of a temporary directory. Please download the HijackThis below which will extract into its own directory, or you wish please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar). When you have done this, then make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for HijackThis and please wait for a HijackThis expert to assist you in doing any repair work necessary, they are the people with the little Gold Shield next to their name.Click to expand...
