I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Copyright Violation: Copyrighted Content Detected

are you able to explain in a little more detail what is going on?

Is it a fake security program or some other sort of infection?

Do you have access to another computer where you can download the programs required in the first steps and transfer to the infected computer via USB, or will nothing run at all on your system:

please try and provide as much detail as possible

Brief intro: I've been an IT pro for about 8 years now, so I've been around the block in terms of virus/spyware/adware/malware cleaning. I've used this site countless times since for getting information and downloading tools - thanks to everyone who contributes! Even though I've successfully cleaned this nasty, I had very little success finding any information about it online, and certainly don't wish what I've just been through on anyone out there. After a 1.5 day long struggle with this one (potentially the toughest one I've had in years), I finally got it all cleaned, and said to myself "self, someones gotta put this info up on the web for anyone else who gets this." So in the vain of thank you's to BC and the community for so much great info over the years, I thought I'd make sure anyone else who has to deal with it can make some use of the following information:There are several variations of the Copyright Violation scam infection. There is actually some great information about it out there already, however, this version/strain of it was particularly nasty. In most cases you can follow S!Ri's guides to input a known registration key to bypass the lockout screen and at least get into explorer to launch the task manager and get a few cleaning programs installed. I've had great success with these steps in the past, so I am specifically describing a situation where following any/all of THOSE steps do NOT WORK.I wi... Read more

Recently, I was infected with both APManager and AKM AntiVirus software viruses. At one point, I could not even normally boot my computer. After many frustrating attempts, I was able to boot in safe mode and access the task manager. I ran a full Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan on my computer and seemed to have successfully removed AKM Antivirus. I have also searched through my computer and deleted any items relating to AKM Antivirus. However, APmanager was not removed by Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I attempted to run several more MBAM scans, but they result in zero infected files. Now, everytime I boot my computer, a fraud copyright alert is the only object that shows up on my home screen. The item reads: "Copyright Violation: Copyrighted Content Detected". Looks like this: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...violation-alert There is no background or bottom taskbar. I am able to run task manager and end the apmanager.exe process. I cannot run the registry editor. When I attempt to run regedit for the first time, nothing happens. Everytime after that, an error message reads "Another program is currently using this file". When i run DDS, no notepad windows show up as they should. GMER log created successfully.

Hi,Download OTL to your desktop.Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.Copy-paste following contents into custom scan -area:netsvcs%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.*%systemroot%\*. /mp /sCREATERESTOREPOINT%systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles%systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles%systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav%systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /90Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long. When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. Windows XP home sp3. No antivirus and no Firewall. I just got infected with this nasty. First a shortcut appeared in my desktop to APManager, then I started having the classic symptoms of Windows Explorer freezing, messages in my tray saying "your computer is infected blah blah blah..." but also the Task Manager was disabled. When I tried to run it I got the message "Task manager has been disabled by your administrator". I rebooted it and I could not start windows. Instead I got a screen saying "Copyright Violation Alert" You broke the law, need to settle the case, make a payment or go to court, we have the evidence etc. etc. etc. The screen though, it looks very real. I almost promised God and all saints I would never even watch Kei$ha on youtube!! Thank the Sweet Lord I did not get that far. I googled it and found some remedies, I opted to follow this one. I have a full screen message titled "Copyright Violation Alert" It goes on to tell me that Windows has detected illegal downloads and says I either must pay a fine or go to court. Obviously a Ransom Malware. It has a website attached to it hxxp://icpp-online.com that claims to protect the artist community. He claims to be in Switzerland or something like that but the site is registered to some guy in Kansas (Details below)

It will not allow anything else on my computer to load. I can't run Malwarebytes. I have booted in Safe Mode and it still takes over the entire screen, and there is no way to close it or minimize it.

I have tried finding a process in Task Manager that I can shut down but have had no luck.

Has anyone heard of this new twist and can you help me get rid of it? Absolutely nothing else will load so I can't do anything to delete it. Can I somehow boot my computer from a CD or Flash Drive that will run Malwarebytes or something?

I noticed a few days before that I was getting responses to denied e-mails that I was not sending. So I suppose someone was using me as a relay. Malwarebytes however found no infections, and then all of the sudden this thing pops up.

Thanks.

I just have a blank background and then the popup. So I can't go through start and remove the software when I don't have my toolbar. Any suggestions on how to get the toolbar back or a different way to remove the virus? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,I was infected two nights ago with the AP manager hijacker. Since I couldn't really access my desktop to create the DDS logs etc. that are requested for help in these forums I followed these instructions to try and remove it:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...violation-alertUpon completing the malawarebytes scan I restarted my computer, and received another fake warning, this time the Antimalware Doctor one. I terminated that application and ran a scan with SpyBot Search and Destroy, which has at least eliminated the program from my control panel program listing.I think I am still infected (GMER logs seem to confirm this), but I now have what seems to be unimpeded access to my desktop applications etc. SO I followed the instructions on the preparation guide for use before requesting help page. I think I've done everything I was asked, except I was unsure whether I had any script-blocking programs enabled. I don't think I do, so I've done the scans without explicitly disabling anything. I disabled Symantec during my GMER scan but it has a tendency to turn back on. ALSO, i did one GMER scan yesterday that returned several red results whose "Type" was listed as "Library." Unfortunately I couldn't save those logs since the program froze/since my computer is really effed. The GMER log is therefore the one I was able to complete this afternoon; the DDS and Attach.txt results are from yesterday. I'm not sure if this is a... Read more

Hello. This started out a couple of weeks ago with a copyright violation pop-up. I tried to ignore but it kept appearing. I had an anti-virus at the time (Symantec) but knew there was a newer/different version (Endpoint) available from my provider so I tried installing it. I have yet to be able to. The messages received indicated that the download was interrupted. I also cannot uninstall my existing version. Certain security sites that I attempted to access were blocked. I finally thought I had found a forum to help and submitted a Hijackthis log to them. I did receive a response and "fixed" the things that were indicated. I noticed that certain programs were still in my lists after the fix. One such was Performance Solution Hotrevenue. I tried to uninstall manually but was told I needed to enter a code to complete the uninstall. This did not look right so I didn't do it. I've searched online for other solutions and was able to install and run (from a flashdrive) CCleaner and ISOBit security. Supposedly problems were found and removed but I still think the computer is infected. One other problem I've noticed is that certain file permission have been changed and prohibits me from making program changes. I think you have this info in my logs but my system is Vista Home Premium, 32-Bit, 2GB Ram, IE 7. April 28, 2010I've browsed around the site and found some helpful programs. I downloaded rkill which helped with the pop ups and allowed me to access the internet. At that point I was able to uninstall the Copyright Violation popup right on the the task bar. I wasn't able to initially access Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. After reading some topics on here, I managed to come across the Revo Uninstaller program. I used that and it worked. I was then able to delete the Antimalware Doctor program. I don't think I completely deleted everything. I tried the Malwarebytes program and it didn't help me at all. After the drives have been scanned, when I pressed "OK" to see the results, the program completey closed and nothing happened. I tried a full scan at least twice to see if it would do the same thing and it did. As for now, I'm currently scanning my drives with the PandaActive Scan. Just waiting on to see if I'd be able to delete some of the infected files. I do however have the internet explorer pop up here and there directing me to a site that I have no idea about. Well, about a month ago, i got the copyright violation virus and im still having a bit of a problem removing it. For starters, when i start my windows xp laptop, i would have just a blank screen with the copyright violation on it. I would then go to taskmanager, scroll down to apmanager.exe and click end processes. The copyright violation would then disappear leaving me with a blank screen. After that, on taskmanager, i would go to new task and put in explorer.exe...now i'm guessing im having registry problems because the open with...window would pop up and i have to search for the explorer.exe file(browse through my comp.) Once i find windows explorer, i click open and i would get my desktop back. I MUST DO THIS EVERY STEP WHENEVER I START UP MY LAPTOP! As for the rundll32.exe problem, i can't change the volume, change the date, or uninstall programs (basically access control panel) without C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe Application not found. popping up. Also, if i want to start up a program ex: photoshop cs4 or firefox, every time the open with....would pop up and i have to browse through my comp. for it. EVERY SINGLE TIME!! Is there a way to fix up my laptop? Remember for just about any program i must look for it to actually open it.

Copyright violation alert ransomware in the wild

Posted by Dancho Danchev @ 7:02 am

A currently ongoing ransomware campaign is using a novel approach to extort money from end users whose PCs have been locked down.

By pretending to be the fake ICPP Foundation (icpp-online.com), the ransomware locks down the user?s desktop issuing a ?Copyright violation: copyrighted content detected? message, which lists torrent files found on the infected PC, and forces the user to pay $400 for the copyright holder?s fine, emphasizing on the fact that ?the maximum penalties can be five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

More details on the campaign:

Upon execution the ransomware will change the Desktop?s wallpaper to the ?Warning! Piracy detected!? background.Consider going through the The Ultimate Guide to Scareware Protection to find out more about how malware/scareware and ransomware propagates, and how to avoid falling victim into the scam

Hi, AtheistBill Lets give this a try. You will need a flash drive to move information from the sick computer to a working computer. It is the only way we can see the progress of our actions. Hi I have no idea how I get infected by this virus. I had Google anti spyware and Windows firewall installed on my Windows XP Pro computer.
Tonight, suddenly AP manager virus started to create fake antivirus popsups.
When I restart the computer I was greeted by copyright violation warning.
I tried to end those processes from windows manager and computer freeze. \
When I restart for second time. I got blue screen of death. I tried rebooting in safe mode and still get blue screen. Then I use WinXP Pro CD and still getting blue screen.

Please HELP!

UPDATE: I left the computer for over hour to restart in normal mode and it was able to restart. I got logged in but I cannlt run rkill or any file including Google Spyware Doctor update. I got pop ups saying every file I try to run is infected. IE browser not working. Firefox works fine. Still cannot reboot in safe mode, blue screen appears.

UPDATE: It seems I was infected by both AP Manager (copyright violation) as well as Antispyware soft. I was able to uninstall APManager from control panel. However I cannot get rid of antispyware soft. I followed direction under spyware removal. I cannot boot into safe mode or safe mode with Networking (blue screen of death). I can only boot into normal mode. I was able to transfer rkill and antimalwarebytes software via USB from another computer onto the infected computer. But rkill is doing anything. It stops at "be patience". I waited for 30 mins.

Hello again,

my previous BSOD errors have stopped after someone in the forums told me to change the settings and install new drivers.

However, after downloading a new nVidia graphics card driver, my computer would constantly be hit with a Driver Verifier Detected Violation error.
I was wondering what I should do to fix this problem.

I was able to run my PC on safemode and turn of "turn off" the verifier, but people have said that this is not enough.

A:Driver Verifier Detected Violation BSOD

Hi

As part of an attempt to figure out the reason behind the blue screens, you might have accidentally enabled "Verfier" program. To disable that, please follow the below steps.

Open an elevated command prompt - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/windows-elevated-command-prompt/

Type Verifier /reset and press Enter key. Reboot the system to apply the change.

Enter Verifier /query and you should get a response similar to "No drivers are currently verified".

Good evening all.

Since a couple of days I'm getting BSOD's once a day with the notice that my Driver Verifier has detected a violation. These particular BSOD's occured in pretty much every activity so far, from playing a game to watching a video or just browsing through some forums. I've also noticed that my notebooks fans get louder since the BSOD appeared, but I can't imagine that there's too much dust inside because I've just bought this notebook a few weeks ago and haven't used it that much.

If you need any more information just ask and it would be much appreciated, if you could help me out with this issues. Many thanks in advance and here's my file:

Attachment 54713

EDIT: I've installed Speedfan and MSI Afterburner lately, but Speedfan only to see the temps and MSI AB only to record games, nothing else. I'm mentioning this just in case these programs could cause troubles.

EDIT2: I've just re-installed Speedfan, and just as I wanted to open it because my fans were louder than usual once again the BSOD I mentioned above appeared again. Could it be that Speedfan was causing those issues? I've uninstalled it and now my notebook is suddenly not as noisy anymore either, but I'll check if it remains like this for a longer period.

A:BSOD - Driver Verifier Violation Detected

Update: My notebook is louder than usual again, but I haven't experienced another BSOD yet. Will keep you updated.

Update #2: No BSOD's today, seems like it was Speedfan causing the troubles. Still, could one of you guys check my file to see if there is/was anything else possibly causing problems?

You have uploaded four crash dumps and there is no driver verifier detected violation. There is no trace of DV enabled in either of dumps, but there is enough need to enable DV. Have you thought something and posted something else?

Anyway, there are two drivers at fault ... AswSNX.sys and AswSP.sys. Both are parts of Avast antivirus. Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Download and install those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

Let us know the results.

I am not any type of expert on dump files, but I see some things that might be relevant. First, you can see the kernel is watching a driver, but does not specify which one.

The drivers below are from 2010, but because they are old doesn't necessarily mean they are causing a problem. You might check and see if you can find an update for them.

What is interesting is the Trixx.sys driver shows as located in your user folder and not in the Windows\System32\drivers folder. Not sure what happened, but if this is an older program, you may have needed to install it in some type of compatibility mode. It looks like the trixx.sys file is related to the Sapphire Video card, so the others might be also. You might check for drivers for the card to see if any new ones are avail... Read more

Hi all,

I have a WD external hard drive. Yesterday, when I connected it to my laptop, it was detected but when I tried to access it through my computer, there was no content available. When I looked at its property, I found out the following;

Used Space: 0 bytes
Free Space: 0 bytes

I then went to My Computer > Manage > Disk Management. I found out that the drive is not available in the list.

Is my hard drive corrupted?

Would appreciate if anybody out there can help me on this. Thanks

"Is my hard drive corrupted?" Most likely yes. Please learn to back up important data on CD, DVD or Blu-Ray media. These type media are non-volatile and are better than solid state memory flash drives

Its illegal to burn copy protected CDs, but CD lasts a long time so a back up isn't really necessary. Just avoid touching the surface of the CD, and keep it in a case when its not in use and it should last a long time.

I tried to make a backup copy of a game I recently bought. However, when I burn it (2 cds), installation goes OK (from disc 1) but the game does not recognize the copy of disc 2 - needed to play the game.

I used Nero 6.

I presume this is to prevent piracy, but Is there a way to get around this problem?

I quarinteened the file and deleted it and that did'nt work either. I have no idea if or what viruses this is. There is no apparent casualties to my computer besides the reoccuring file. I have an old VHS movie (1991) that I'd like converted to DVD since I no longer have a VHS recorder.

It was a FOX Made-For-TV movie. I have a person lined up willing to convert but we are both concerned about the copyright issues involved.

I purchased it originally from eBay and it came from the UK and was in UK format so I had it converted to US format also in VHS. The person who did the converting did not have any problems with converting issues, he had a business for converting stuff but I don't know where he is now. That's the history of this VHS tape.

Thank you.

A:Solved: Are all movies copyrighted?

Making a copy for what is strictly personal use is OK as long as you own the original. So don't throw away that VHS copy. Have you checked to see if it has been released on DVD?
Keep in mind that many VHS movies were Macrovision [anti-copy] encoded. That could spoil your chances of getting a decent DVD copy.

I guess I should have worded my thread differently because it was closed for reasons that were untrue.

I was not asking how to pirate DVD's, I know the rules, and I would never break them. I came here for legitimate help with a legal issue, not a question on how to steal.

My question as posted:

"Sonic DigitalMedia LE -while trying to copy- is not reading already copied dvd's, it keeps saying to insert a dvd into the drive. Apparently it will recognize cd's, and it can tell if there is a copyrighted dvd in the drive, but it pops out the already copied ones.

Any ideas?"
I was trying to find out what the problem is with a PC, or software. The software detects copyrighted material and then goes no further. (I do not wish answers on how to copy copyrighted DVD's.) It will not detect DVD's that are not protected, that is what I need the help with, the detection of non copyrighted material. Is it a drive or software issue?
Where do I start?
