Omni 27 black screen unit powers up fan runs

Q: Omni 27 black screen unit powers up fan runs

I have a hp omni 27 all in one. Had windows 8 upgraded to windows 10 didn't like it so went back to windows 8. After about a week or so of going back to windows 8 the screen started to give a flicker periodically then it eventually went blank. Not sure if windows operating system has anything to do with it anyway it powers on fan runs but no display. It abt3 1/2 years old. Took rear cover off nothing seems out of place or dirty. It's a 27-1210xt. Can anyone help? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I am a new IT person at a very small school. Our receptionist has a OptiPlex 3030 All In One. Her computer has been working fine, but this morning when she turned it on it just powered up and the screen stayed black. We tried numerous times to restart it and we keep getting the same result. I've now unplugged it and we haven't touched it in a while. I'm not quite sure what to do in this situation. I am going to try connecting another display to it. But I was wondering if anyone knew of a solution to this? I read somewhere that inserting the OS disk and reinstalling the Windows 10 would work, but I don't want to have to do that.

I recently tried to turn on my computer. It appears to power up, but there's nothing on the screen. I tried running the LCD test (power + D) and see the flashing colors so screen appears to be working.  Tried to run the POST (?) test (power + Fn) and can hear lots of beeping, but I cannot see anything on the screen. At one point early on, I must have pressed something to turn on the verbal assistance, because it was reading to me. That has stopped, though. Any suggestions for a fix?  I'm on a work trip overseas, so I'm not able to hook it up to an external monitor to see if that works.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

trouble started today... fan was whining so checked it and rebooted, got some bad beeps(7 then 1 long 2 short i think), rebooted again and it booted fine but fan was barely turning so powered off and bought new fan, put it in... started booting, fan started, it was checking drives and then just powered off...

took the opportunity to get new case and power supply and put everything together again... same problem

disconnected all but the motherboard... same problem

would love to hear that this could be something other than a fried mobo...

A:no boot, black screen, powers itself off

Sounds to me that you have a short circuit that is grounding your MoBo (where it shouldn't be grounded)

make sure that you did not install any standoffs where they don't belong. remove your mobo from the case, verify that your standoffs are in the right spots for your mobo and form factor. the holes that your mobo should have mounting screws in will have a metal ring around them, if it doesn't, then dont use a mounting screw or metal standoff there (you can use a plastic standoff if you want)

before reinstalling the mobo, try "table testing" it first...boot up without mounting it in your case to verify that everything works before installing it

My son has a Lenovo G580 running Win 8.  He uninstalled McAfee AV which completed and indicated a reboot was required. He rebooted and Win 8 did not start.  Has a black screen.  Power lights come on and I can hear the fan running.  When powering up, there is a quick noise from the DVD drive being engaged, but then no other noise -- just the fan.

I was going to try to use a recovery disk, but he does not have one.  Can one be created using a Win 7 machine?

Help!!

Tom

A:Laptop powers up to a black screen

It's a good point about using the Windows 7 system repair disk for Windows 8. I do not know if that has been tried before or even if it is possible. Both use the BCD store for booting. But because this happened after Mcafee was uninstalled, I think it has affected more than just the boot files. I googled and found other people had the same problem of a blank screen after an uninstall.

Try the following first.

Remove the power cord and battery. Press the power button for 30 seconds. Attach the power cord but leave the battery out. Power up the computer.

Are there any files that need to be recoverd from the laptop?

Levono has a button that will start the factory reset process. It's called the NOVO button and looks like a little arrow. I am not sure where it is on your computer but if you do a factory reset, all files that were put on the computer after purchase will be deleted so do not do this until you have recovered all of your files.

So my laptop powered on and I hear the fan and everything sounds normal, up until when the option to type in my password should appear. At first, there was no screen to type in my password. Now, there's the Windows logo, but the cursor doesn't move and there's no box to type in my password.

I tried a quick google and people suggested unplugging the adapter, taking out the battery, and pressing the ON button for 15-60 seconds. I did that and all it did was have the Windows logo pop up. I've tried booting it in safe mode, but nothing shows up.

So I tried step 3 from this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03518165&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en but pressing F10 didn't take me to the BIOS settings. The only option was to press enter, and it led me to options such as system restore or fixing the hardware.

Now this lets me see the screen perfectly fine, so what's going on? I can only see the screen here, but not on normal boot up or safe mode. I tried a system restore but that did not work. I'm currently in the VAIO Recovery Center and I ran a Quick Test and nothing was wrong. So I just did a "hard disk verify and repair" and it said it found something wrong but repaired it. I just restarted and still nothing, just a black screen with the Windows logo, no box to type in my password and the cursor can't move.

Do I need to get something replaced or what? Oh and this laptop is about 5 years old. If I nee... Read more

What operating system to you have? Windows 7? 8?

It sounds like the hardware is functioning, but something for Windows is corrupt. I had the exact same problem on a computer a couple of weeks ago.

I had a Windows on my flash drive, plugged it in, and choose to use startup repair to fix the problem. Ironically in my case, it said it failed, but it did fix the problem.

If you don't have a Windows disc, in your recovery settings, you should be able to choose startup repair. Sounds like upon booting the computer, you have to press enter. Not sure where to go from there on your computer. Can you provide all the options you see from that screen or see if you can find? Also, what is the make and model of your pc?

in this case i suggest reset the graphic card and make sure all connections are seated well after that if it dosent work you could fix it by swaping the Graphic card with a different one to determine if its a GC issue .

one question you see black screen ? do you even get to see the bois menu or nothing at all?

Hello anyone who can help!

I have a Lenovo Laptop Thinkpad Edge E520 8GB RAM, Intel CPU B960 Pentium Processor 2.2GHZ

Recently when I have powered up my laptop it occasionally doesn't load properly, the screen stays black. You can hear the laptop working fine but you cannot see anything.

This happens once or twice a week, I usually hold on the power button for 5 seconds, then reboot and it resumes my hibernate settings as usual

Could this be because I always hibernate my laptop?

Can someone please explain what might be causing this problem and how I go about fixing it?

Thanks in advance!

A:Laptop powers on but screen stays black?

Thats a fairly new laptop as i have the edge 530.ive never put any of my computers on hibernate so im not sure if that why its doing that. it sounds like either a power supply problem, a screen problem, or a harddrive problem.or rarely the motherboard.you might want to take it somewhere and have it checked out then you will know for sure and go from there.if you have an external monitor you can try and see if anything shows up on it. if so or even if the other monitor is black i would still start with the screen first as the problem.

I have a HP Compaq 6820S that all of a sudden has stopped working   It had been on unattended for a few hours, and when I came back to it it had frozen with a black screen (I had to hold the power button to turn it off).  Now, when I power it up, the fan kicks in, the caps lock LED flashes on then off, the wireless and power button LEDs stay lit, and the DVD drive continously clicks - but nothing else (screen remains black /off, no beeps, no BIOS/ POST screen). I've tried with hard disk and/or memory removed, and with/without the battery inserted - with the same result as above each time.   EDIT: have also left the battery out for 24 hours too.  When on nothing happens (caps lock/num lock keys don't light up when pressed, wireless LED doesn't go off when pressed).  I've also tried exporting to an external display, again with no luck.  I suspect the motherboard is dead, and it may be new laptop time, but wanted to check here in advance in case anyone has any other suggestions.  Can anyone suggest anything?

We have an issue where some of our E431 devices will power on but the screen will remain black. If we let things sit for awhile and try to boot again it may come up just fine. There are no beep notifications during POST. When it boots fine the ThinkPad logo appears and will go on to the OS. If we restart or shutdown the computer may or may not boot. Has anyone had an issue similar to this and what did you do to correct the issue? We have tried replacing screens, mother boards, new hard drives, and swapping memory but cannot pinpoint what is causing the issue. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi there fellas.

I have had my comp for about 3-4 years. I have never had any problems but this week when I turned it on the screen remained black and said "no signal". Obviously there is no output from the graphics card and I have tried a second moniter which also failed. Im almost certain that this is a hardware problem.

When the PC boots up, the LED's on the flash card drives and floppy drive are permenently on. However, when the PC was working these lights would flash briefly and then go off while the boot sequence continued.

I have opened the case and turned the power on. The CPU fan and PSU fan are both spinning but the fan on the graphics card is not. The two DVD drives both work but there is still nothing on the screen.
Im not sure if the hard-drives have power because they are quite hidden.

Im am unsure of how to proceed. I thought I would seek some advice before physically taking it to a specialist.

My PC:

Hi, I shut my laptop down last night without having a problem with it at all...ever! IT is a dell xps1530 running window's vista. This morning I booted it up and it powers on but justs sits at a black screen. No cursors are flashing, none of the F keys do anything to try to boot in safe mode...the computer just absolutely does nothing. I have tried inserting the install cd to try to boot from that and it accepted the cd and now won't spit it out. I tried taking out the battery and unplugging it and holding the on button down for 60s. that didn't help. I have reseated the hard drive and the memory. beyond that I am not much use. Any suggestions?

A:Laptop powers up but boots to a black screen

Its possible that the motherboard is failing or has failed.have it looked at so that you will know for sure the exact problem.from what i understand the xps laptops are for gaming and are known for having motherboard issues.as far as the stuck cd try to go to the cd/dvd drive itself and try to eject it or use a paperclip to try to pop open the drawer.

Hi everyone!

Whenever you power it on the indicator lights shine but however it seems the screen doesn't want to turn on. I've troubleshooted the computer by doing all I know. Such as removing the battery and draining the excess life in the computer, cleaning the RAM cartilages (also checked to see if it were by chance the RAM themselves), and as far as to dissembling the computer to see if the flex cables had by chance came unhooked. Everything seems to be hooked up and wired just fine. Just no screen display. The fan will turn on after several minutes of the computer idling.

Hope we can work things out!

Thanks!

Can not boot Pavilion 23-b319. Powers up to a black screen with NO beep sounds. This started as an occasional non-boot symptom, but now will not boot at all.All other functions appear normal:  power supply light remains on, power button lights up, fan is constant, hard drive spins, optical drive can open and disks sound as spinning. What I have tried: Power supply brick has been tested.Hard drive has been pulled (for data recovery) and is confirmed working.CMOS has been reset, battery replaced with new. When single 8GB RAM stick is removed, I get 5 beeps, a pause and patten is repeated.  Can anyone familiar with this model  confirm if these beeps are indicating ram failure or motherboard failure? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

@q59, welcome to the forum. The first component that comes to mind when I see these symptoms is the power supply unit (PSU).  However, here is a guide that will help you troubleshoot the hardware to see if it is working properly.  Some of the diagnostics are done from UEFI so the computer doesn't have to boot. Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

Just a little backround on my laptop.  It's about six years old, and has 8 gig of RAM and optional ATI Radeon graphics.  It has been used heavily as I do electronic medical records with it as well as personal stuff.  It's not turned off very often; I just keep it in hibernation. One day a couple of weeks ago I had several tabs open in Chrome, one of them being SiriusXM streaming.  My back was turned as I was with a patient and all of a sudden I heard a buzz coming from the audio that lasted a few seconds, then no sound.  When I finally looked at the computer, the screen was black, but everything else was running (leds, hard drive, fan, etc). I pulled the AC power and the battery, restarted Windows in safe mode, and had a display.  I then deleted the video drivers for ATI and Intel, then restarted the computer.  It came back with the screen looking fairly normal to before it went belly up, and also had sound.  Windows then automatically reloaded the video drivers (during which time a box came up and told me the ATI driver didn't exist) and then prompted me to restart.  I did, and sound, leds, hard drive, everything came up except black screen again. Well, I repeated this several times, even went and downloaded the ATI driver off of the site, with the same result.  At that point I decided to use the computer as it was after the first restart and select "restart later" so it wouldn't go back to the black screen.  I... About six months ago, my machine started giving me a black screen during the boot up process. As soon as I turn it on, I see the manufacturers logo (dell) for about 1 second, then it gives me a black screen with a flashing white cursor in the upper left hand corner. This screen last about 3-4 minutes, then it boots windows XP normally.

Last week I was in the room while it was booting, and I noticed that it was accessing the network during the black screen portion of boot up (activity light on cable modem was flashing, alot), which got me motivated to fix it. (not sure what that means). I ran virus scanners (McAfee) which found nothing, but I did check the log file in my scanner which shows that my auto virus screening is diabled everytime I boot the machine????

Checked partitions on the hard drive, found 2- my c:, and an unnamed partition of about 30 megs. (I dont remember putting a second partitions on there - would the manufacturer put that there to use as a virtual memory??)

Deleted all partitions and reformated the hard drive yesterday, and reloaded XP, but that still didn't solve it.

Loaded and booted the Windows Recovery Console, and ran the FIXMBR command twice, both times I get the message that "It appears your MBR is corrupted" or something like that but it doesn't fix it.

Do I have some sort of virus in the MBR that my virus software (McAffee, was up to date before my reformating) never caught or is this a hardware is... Read more

A:Black Screen on Boot up for ~3 minutes, then runs ok

Boot Error

You say it is accessing the network during boot this might be due to you're boot priority in the BIOS.
Go into you're BIOS and set you're boot priority to:
First: Floppy
Second: CD/DVD
Third: HDD or HDD0

Hopefully this should resolve you're slow boot up.

Also you can not create 1 partition with you're hard drive the computer does not use 100% HDD when formatting as for it takes probably around 30MB for it self to do what it has to do so that is not a virus.
Hope this helps you.

Hi Community
I have a problem with my VOSTRO 3360. At power on the hard drive LED flashes a couple of times and I can hear the disk head moving and then the fan  speeds up and nothing else occur. The fan keeps running at high speed and the screen remains black all the time.
I have made following tests:
1. When I remove the RAM from the pc I can hear 2 diagnostic beeps.
2. If I keeps pressing the F2 key during and after pressing the power botton I hear after a second or so, short beeps, as when the keyboard buffer is full.
3. I have disconnected the main battery and removed the coin-cell battery. When the batteries are reconnected I hear 5 diagnostic beeps at the first power on. After cycling the power I hear no beeps and it starts as initially described.
Any good ideas are appreciated.Thanks.

Bought windows 8 upgrade, and ran it on Windows 7, I made an ISO boot CD and USB jic.. I used the upgrade assistant setup, and it went through the install, rebooted and came to a black screen with the blue tile logo, and and stayed there for hours..

Formatted hard drive, and attempted to boot clean windows 8 install and it does not load or install, it goes straight to this same logo screen! Very frustrating!
Then I reinstalled windows 7 and tried to upgrade again using the USB I made and auto run, but same issue.

Help!
My computer screen goes black, the sound goes jerky and then stops and the fan runs really fast. This is apparently random, I have run checkdisk and there are no errors. It happens when computer is cold so is not overheating. It was happening a few weeks ago and I figured it was my 4 year old processor or my mother board so I replaced both and got a new power supply but now it is happening again. When it happened before my hard disk was corrupted so I removed everything from it, formatted it and reinstalled windows, but this time my hard disk is fine. The only bits left of my old computer are my hard disk, my graphics card (which is only a year old) and the wires. I don't know what to do.

Umm ok, hoping this is the right spot.

So... hello... and thanks to all of you lovely computery people out there for even reading about my problem.

So today i was watching a video online, and the screen just went black, but the sound of the video was still playing normally. I turned off the computer (didn't know how else to stop it). Anyways, upon restarting, the screen is visible for about one second and then goes black. The right side of the screen is brighter than the left if that means anything to anyone. I can tell by the sounds that it restarts normally except for the screen which remains black.

When i put the laptop to sleep and reopen it the screen is visible for again 1 second or so, and then goes dark. That screen is the log in screen so i know the rest of the computer works fine up to that point.

If I shine a flashlight at the screen i can see the screen, but barely.

Computer details for anyone interested.
Toshiba Satellite A200
Windows Vista
4 years old
(not sure what else you would need to know)

Ok, so a couple questions from all that.

1) Can anybody tell what's wrong with it?

2) If i hook it up to another monitor of some sort, can i bypass the screen issue?

3) Assuming whatever is wrong with the screen is fixable, is it better/cheaper just to buy a new computer instead?

Well that's all i can think of. Please try and help me out if you can, i would really appreciate it.
Thank you all, hope to hear from you,
Indebted as always,

A:Solved: Screen went black but computer still runs fine

Sounds like it could be the Inverter/ backlight

Yes you can hook an external monitor and use it that way.

If it is the inverter/backlight....not too expensive and fairly easy to install

Dell M1330 XPS
Vista 32 Bit

I found a thread with the same problem, but it was closed already, so i decided to join and ask for my myself. I copy the text because it's exactly the same problem and i'm not a native english speaker, so who ever reads this don't have any problem to understand.

Mat****a dvd+-RW UJ 857G ATA Device

For some reason my Dvd/cd ROM Drive will play dvd's and cd's fine. When I put a blank dvd-rw in it shows that I have a blank disk in and how much free space I have on it. But when I put a CDRw intermitently it won't recognize the disk.

I've tried using different disks, with the same problem.. but sometimes when I take a disk out and put it back in over and over eventually it will show the Blank CDRW.

Why doesn't my computer recognize blank CDRW's everytime, and how can I fix this?

I've found new firmware in dell that is supossed to apply to this device, but when i try to update the firmware the program doesn't find the old one, and i don't know how make it work. I've tried to move the installer to System32/Drivers where it's supossed that cd/dvd controllers are located, but it still doesn't works like that.

i hope someone has the same problem resolved. I'm adding a picture of the new firmware installer.

A:My dvd/cd unit doesn't recognizes black cd's

I gave up a while back using any drive with a Matsu****a name on it. Out of four different drives both laptop and desktop machines I have had similar problems with all of them. My solutions was change the drives to another brand, unfortunately for the Laptop (a Toshiba), there was not, at the time (last year), a repalcement that would fit the laptop case bezel.

Now I got home from work and my computer is at a black screen. I have done the reset that was mentioned by unhooking everything and holding the power button for 30 seconds. Still black screen. Please HELP!

I understand your computer powers on but doesn?t show a display on the monitor, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.

If you haven?t tried already start with a hard reset.

1.       Remove all  cables from the computer including the power cord

2.       Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds

3.       Once done only insert the mouse, keyboard, and power cable

4.       Try and turn the computer on to see what happens.

Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

Thanks

I took out the heatsink from my fiance's computer and replaced it with a new, better heatsink and started having this problem. The computer will power on and all the fans are turning but the monitor stays in "sleep" mode it does not show anything.

One time, after the computer was on for a while the computer speaker beeped and the system booted, but after windows tried to boot the screen was all garbled and I had to restart the computer. Now it won't boot again, just a black screen.

Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Computer powers on, monitor is black

I can't possibly see why replacing the heatsink would have to do with the problem you are having - it is most likely a coincidence. Try reseating the video card. Have you changed any BIOS settings?

Turned the computer on this morning, and the display is showing as split, with the left side of the screen showing on the right and the right side of the screen showing on the left, with a black line in the middle. This doesn't show this way when I remote into the system, only on the internal monitor. I tried changing the resolution, with no effect. Any ideas?

I hope someone can help - I woke up this morning and my Omni 100-5155 Desktop All in One will not work.  When I press power there is no power on light and the monitor is dark.  I can hear the computer starting up but I never hear the windows sound because it will not play until someone enters the password.  I also do not see the system do the keyboard reconize check etc.   it is just a little over 2 years old  :-(   I have disconnceted and reconnected all the power cords and connections.  I thought about seeing if the BIOS is reconizing the hard drive but of course I will not be able to see anything without a monitor.  I do have the recovery disks also but they won't do much good without a monitor.  I also thought about hooking it up to my television (as a monitor) to see if the system is indeed working but that computer has no monitor port. Thank you for any input!
