Q: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th Generation and Thunderbolt 3 Docking-Station

Hello ... I use an Thinkpad Yoga370 together with the Thunderbolt 3 Docking-Station for business. For private use I have an Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th Generation. Is there any possibility to connect it to the Thunderbolt 3 Docking-Station e.g. by an adapter? So I would like to use the Thunderbolt 3 Docking-Station with connected Screen, Keyboard, Mouse with both Laptops. Thanks for your help and best regards ...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have installed the drivers and rebooted, but it still does not show up.  The docking station is a 40AC0135US which was indicated as the correct docking station by Lenovo's docking station finder.    I have no idea how they have managed to make this so difficult.

I have a 5th gen Carbon connected to the Lenovo Thunderbolt docking station. After some time, perhaps a sleep or hibernation, the laptop loses ethernet connectivity and can only use wifi. ipconfig reports media disconnected. But if I do a restart of Windows 10, ethernet is back, no problems. Also if I use the ethernet dongle connected to the laptop's weird little ethernet port, there are no issues.  There are other issues with the dock, like intermittent loss of wireless keyboard and mouse connectivity, but I'll worry about those in another thread.

Apologies if something similar has been posted, I just can't find the answer. We have a 5th Generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon connected to a Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 dock. At the moment the display is mirrored using a VGA cable to connect to the dock. What we would like instead is to connect the dock to 2 external monitors with separate content on each monitor and the laptop display blank. I just can't figure out if this is possible, what might be needed, and how! Any help greatly appreciated.

I contacted Lenovol support and they send me a replacement unit. The the replacement unit has the same problem. Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.  I need to plug in the power adapter for both docking station and notebook.  Does anybody have similiar problem?

A:Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 docking station does not charge Thinkpad P51 battery.

Everbody's p51 would be the same.  The thunderbolt port won't work as a charging port.  The thunderbolt specs specify 100w max.  That's not enough.  Your thunderbolt port is not for charging.  To charge via the dock, you need a workstation dock, not a thunderbolt dock.  A thinderbolt dock can charge things like an x1 carbon (5th gen) or x1 yoga (2nd gen)

Community: we just recently purchased a brand new Thinkpad X1 Extreme laptop and Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock. The Laptop is awesome but unfortunately we're on our second dicking station and wondering what we're doing wrong--or if we have a defect.  The docking station came with a 230W and 65W AC power cord, and the dock has both a 230W/170W port and 135W/65W power port. When the 230W cord is plugged into the 230W port, the dock doesn't turn on (nothing plugged in). When the 65W cord is plugged into the 135W/65W port, it lights up but no network when a laptop is plugged in or charge. The only way I get a light on the station is to plug the 230W cord into the 135W/65W port, and then when a laptop is plugged in I get network and charge. We contacted Lenovo and they sent a replacement as they admitted it was not working as it should. The second one also exhibits the exact same behavior and we are at a loss and ready to return for a refund.  I also don't want to plug a 230W power brick into a 135W/65W port for fear of overheating. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas, we'd like to hear them.  Thanks.

Sorry for the bit of a wall of text, I'm trying to be as detailed as I can. I've been pulling my hair out a bit on this one, and I've tried steps found in at least half a dozen threads that I read through on here, but to no avail. I wanted to make a separate thread because my issue seems to be happening before most of everyone else's. I've tried: installing drivers in a specific order, not plugging the dock in until everything is setup, forcing a PD reset (hold power 8 seconds), updating bios to latest and trying all the Thunderbolt security/compatibility/passthrough settings, etc.  Specifics: An end-user has a 6th gen X1 Carbon and purchased this dock: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun... Which specifically says it's compatible, and I've used the dock finder utility to verify the compatibility. I'm running Windows 10 1809 and have triple checked driver versions and BIOS settings. The driver shows up correctly in Device Manager and the Thunderbolt software runs properly. I've disabled my antivirus in case something was interfering.  Problem: However, no matter what I try, when I plug the dock into the machine, I don't get a single prompt or anything that indicates it's been connected, other than that the LED on the dock goes from amber to white, the NIC lights up (if plugged in), and the laptop charges properly and indicates as such. You're suppo... Hi, I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th Gen which came with the USB-C docking station. I have a USB headset (Logitech), plugged into the docking station, which I use for Skype calls. The laptop runs Win 10 Pro. The problem is this: I'll start a Skype call with the audio routed to the headset, both speaker and microphone. The headset is also configured in Windows Control Panel as the default speaker. A minute or so into the call, the speaker audio will drop out and revert to the laptop's built-in sound card. Even though Skype is set to route the audio to the headset, the audio doesn't make it to the headset, it just goes out the laptop analog audio. I get the idea that this is a problem with the DisplayLink driver for the docking station. I tried updating the driver but it says that I have the latest version (even though it's dated 2006?!?).  Any ideas?  Thanks! - bill.

I am struggling with my docking station for my ThinkPad 480s.  I have two docking stations.  One by Lenovo type 40AJ and the other by DELL.  The dual monitor DP setup resets every 3 to 5 minutes causing the monitors to go black with the Lenovo UltraDocking Station.  So I switched out that docking station with the DELL universal docking station.  When I use the USB C/Thunderbolt port the same thing happens.  When I use the USB 3 port, I have no problems.  I have looked in the event viewer and I can see where the laptop switches from external to battery power, but nothing else.  Also, I have updated the drivers for Thunderbolt. Has anyone seen and resolved this issue?

I just got a new Carbon X1 6th generation (20KG).  I started using this with my Thunderbolt 3 dock (40AC), that I successfully used with my previous Carbon X1 5th Generation. There seems to be some compatibility issues here. After using it with the docking a while (apprx. 1 hour), the X1 suddenly started to continuously disconnect/reconnect from the dock (each 2-3 seconds), before it permanently was disconnected from the docking and would not connect at all.  When I disconnected the X1 from the dock and restarted (without connecting to dock) the X1 Thunderbolt software and devices/drivers related to that on the X1 "went crazy" and appeared/disappeared from the device manager continuously (each 2-3 seconds). I needed to enter bios and temporarily disable internal battery for it to normalize again. If I then connected to dock, the same would happen after some time. I've updated Thunderbolt software, drivers, firmware and also Thunderbolt 3 dock firmware and drivers, so no more to do there. I have not verified it completely yet, but it might be that the disconnect/crazy_stuff happens when the battery charge of the X1 reaches 100%. I once connected the X1 to the dock when the charge was 97% and it was stable then (the X1 does not charge on AC when the battery is > 95%). If this is the reason, one solution might then be to use Lenovo Vantage to set max charge to e.g. 97%, but I think this is a poor solution. Some ... Read more

Hopefully someone here can help me before I get an aneurysm. I got the HP Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station (150 watts, model number P5Q54AA). Everything is connected ok but as soon as the dock connects to my laptop it crashes my computer instantly and generates the blue screen of death. It doesn't matter if a monitor is connected or not. There was a couple of scary moments when it sent my fans into overdrive and started beeping loudly as if a bomb was ready to explode. I spent more than eight hours on this yesterday and at this point the dock seems like nothing more than a nice looking brick. I have went through all of the help threads here and tried everything. I updated the bios from 1.14 to 1.15I updated all audio drivers, graphic drivers, firmware drivers, chipset drivers, and thunderbolt related driversI rolled back everything twice and reinstalled everythingI removed the security setting in the bios that relates to thunderbolt devices connectingI've made numerous other changes that didn't work and had to roll backNothing seems to work. I am puzzled as to why HP haven't set this up better. Surely there needs to be a dedicated app for this that handles everything and installs and removes all necessary drivers. By the looks of it this docking station has been a mess from the start. What else can I do at this point?

A:Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station Crashes HP ZBook Studio G3 as...

It is possible you have a defective dock. I have exactly the same setup and went through some difficulties when I first got it but turning off Thunderbolt security made mine work. It is still occasionally finicky coming out of sleep mode or if I disconnect the laptop and use it as a laptop then try to reconnect the dock. Takes a restart or 2 sometimes but mine generally works well.  I would suggest your problems point to a bad piece of hardware.

I have several Dell 5510 Precision series with the Thunderbolt USB-C adaptor. Each 5510 is plugged into a Dell K17A docking station powered by a Dell 130W power supply. When I connect the docking station via its USB-C connection to the 5510 laptop, I get a BIOS warning that it only sees 95W of the 130W. But the battery charges and the laptop runs. I can turn off the power warning in the BIOS (which is current) but I worry about powering the 5510's Nvidia video card and other components if the BIOS is not seeing all 130 watts.
Plugging in the 130W psu supplied with the laptop has no such BIOS error.
Why does the Dell docking station K17A not see the Dell power supply? Is it throttling it?

Hi together, I have a problem with my USB-C docking station if I enable the field "Support in Pre Boot Environment" in my X1 bios. Devices:Lenovo X1 (Type 20HR, 20HR002MGE):- Windows 10 up-to-date with Lenovo System UpdateUSB-C Dock (Type 40AC bzw. 340AC0135EU)):- Firmware: 43.00- Drivers 17.4.80.xx My X1 SSD is encryptet with bitlocker and i have to type a password before booting windows, thats why I enabled the preboot Environment for usb with my thundebolt port in bios that i can use my external display and usb keyboard for typing. So far so good. Since I made that setting, my usb ports in my dock are very unstable. After reconnection my dock while running windows all my usb ports of the dock refused to reconnect and my keyboard is not working until I restart. After unplugging and replugging my X1 to my dock I have to connect all my USB directly to the X1 or I have to restart windows. Both is very annoying. If I disable that BIOS Setting, my keyboard is not working for entering my bitlocker password and my external monitor is not showing the bitlocker screen, but disconnecting and reconnecting my X1 with my dock is working perfectly. Am I realy alone with that problem? I hope anybody can help. I already tried to disable my security settings for thundebrolt in BIOS and all other security levels. But it did not help. Thanks in advance,Roland

The only one I can see is the Onelink Pro which has one display port and one DVI (which I cannot use).

I read somewhere that the Thinkpad Ultra dock is compatible but there are so many conflicting posts out there.

I have just bought a Dell XPS 15 (9560) and a Dell WD15 docking station with 130W power brick (same wattage as the laptop's AC-adapter). When I only use the docking station to power the laptop the discrete graphics card (GTX 1050) does not seem to work. When I am in a game (eg. Starcraft 2), I get like 15 fps with the NVIDIA recommended settings. Then when I plug in the laptops's own power brick (while still in the game) I get an immediate four-fold increase in framerate. When I unplug the laptop's own power brick the framerate drops down to 15 fps again in a heartbeat. Furthermore, when I only power the laptop through the docking station, I cannot even find the discrete GPU in the list when I'm trying to run the Geekbench 4 compute benchmark (OpenCL). Only the integrated graphics shows up. When I plug in laptop's power brick I find GTX 1050 in the list.
I have run the Dell Command Update application and all my drivers and firmware are up to date.
Does anyone have any idea to what the problem could be?

Hi,  I would like to add a WWAN cart to my thinkpad. I first ordered a Sierra EM7455 with a dedicated antenna. Installation worked fine, but when I restarted the ocmputer I got a "1802 unauthorized network card ...1199/9078" Antenna link https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.0.0.tZJXFc&orderId=90686426946259&produ... So I figured out that the Bios has a whitelist for network cards. So my question is simple:- can I override this BIOS error ? => I guess the answer is no (or at least not simply)- which card should I buy ? I found this card https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/0.html?spm=a2g0s.9042647.6.2.JGVfAL&orderId=91257876926259&produ... This card seems to be listed herehttps://pcsupport.lenovo.com/fr/fr/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-... Thsnk you for your help vincent

Dear community, I got a new X1 Carbon (2018) and a Lenovo ThinkPad Pro Dock Station with 135 Watt. It also works very well, but after some time, the external monitor (connected via Display Port) as well as power stop working, while mouse and keyboard connected via USB continue working.  What is going on? Thank you for your help! Kind regards!
