remote call procedure call

Q: remote call procedure call

Every time I try to log in it says remote call procedure failed. I can't even get in using safe mode. The system is a HP pavilion slimline running windows 7. I'm all out of ideas . Thanks alot

Preferred Solution: remote call procedure call

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: remote call procedure call

Please post the exact model of Pavilion system.
I don't see a solution that does not involve use of a System Repair disk or safe mode.  Perhaps HP has a solution on one of its support pages.

I am suspecting malaware and found a thread with similar issue it seems: http://forums.techguy.org/general-security/820908-remote-procedure-call-rpc.html

Go to your Control Panel and open Administrative Tools

Help please - My kids pc is running very very slow. It seemed to be infected with a virus. We have AVG installed and it shows up that we have a number of different viruses but doesn't seem to be able to get rid of them. I have tried other products on 30 day trials PC Cillen, a2, and ad-aware some with greater succes than others BUT when I run ad-aware after a few minutes it comes up with the "Remote Procedure Call" - I have vague recollections about this happening during the BugBear virus - I have down loaded the fix from symantic but it says that there is nothing wrong AAArgh....

So If I dont run ad-aware the computer doesn't crash but just runs very slowly - everything takes an age to open or save. I am ready to nuke it and start again - any help that anybody can give would be gratefully appreciated.

This is ano old windows exploit worm.

If you have an firewall, install it.
Then go to Start> Programs> Update Windows and update the patches relating to the above error first.

Hope that helps. There are direct patch fixers but if you have a firewall (Norton etc) then you may as well use windows updates.

Hi everyone, today I checked processes in my 2 computers (windows 8.1) and I noticed this process " svchost.exe Service Host: Remote Procedure Call"
what is it?

A:What is remote procedure call?

Hi again puravida  In computer science, a remote procedure call (RPC) is an inter-process communication that allows a computer program to cause a subroutine or procedure to execute in another address space (commonly on another computer on a shared network) without the programmer explicitly coding the details for this remote interaction.[1] That is, the programmer writes essentially the same code whether the subroutine is local to the executing program, or remote. When the software in question uses object-oriented principles, RPC is called remote invocation or remote method invocation (RMI).Many different (often incompatible) technologies have been used to implement the concept.Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_procedure_callMicrosoft Remote Procedure Call (RPC) defines a powerful technology for creating distributed client/server programs. The RPC run-time stubs and libraries manage most of the processes relating to network protocols and communication. This enables you to focus on the details of the application rather than the details of the network.Source: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa378651%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

Wondering if someone can help me out with this.  I have my Windows 7 Enterprise 64 SP1 box on a domain.  Our corporate office setup a 2008 R2 SP1 print server and created a few queues on it.  When I try to go to start and then type in the
\\servername I get
\\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The remote procedure call failed.  When I try to access the same server
from an XP SP3 machine it opens up fine using my same credentials. I have also tried this from another user's machine who has 7 Enterprise x64, whose machine was built differently than mine and I can get to it fine from that system too.  Any ideas what
I am missing here? We run McAfee here and I've tried stopping all the services, and played around with a bunch of other things too, so far to no avail.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Remote Server Not Accessible - Remote Procedure Call Failed

I can't think of any off hand that would restrict just one resource - that's not to say there aren't though.  Here's what you can do to check the Services:
Note that you must be logged in as a Domain Admin or have Local Admin privileges on the machines.
Start up two instances of services.msc.
On one of them connect to one of the Windows 7 machines that is working properly.  The other leave connected locally.
Now go down the list and make sure the services on your machine match the services on the working machine.  If they don't, change them so that they do.  Pay particular attention to the Server and Workstation services.  Also the Remote Procedure
Call and RPC Endpoint Mapper services.

Windows 2000 service pack 3 will not completely boot up. In the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services the Automatic Updates and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) are showing as Starting in the Status column. When I right click on them all options in All Tasks are grayed out and unavailable. Clicking on the Properties option just closes the window and is also not available. This problem first occurred on 8/14/2003 when I rebooted after Norton Anti Virus had trapped and quarantined 2 viruses found on 8/13/2003 8:24 PM during a scheduled daily scan. The file names were Dc1827.html and Dc1826.zip. I am not sure if these 2 viruses are the reason that my computer will no longer completely boot up. I am attaching the log file from hijackthis that I ran today for your review.

When MS pushed an update during Aug. 2016 I started getting the error message "The Remote Procedure Call Failed" whenever I tried to open a jpeg. I resolved the issue by restoring to an earlier date. In Oct MS pushed their anniversary update creating the same issue: "The Remote Procedure Call Failed". This time the update prevented a system rollback to an earlier date. I have searched all over the internet looking for help but no luck. The only dubious solution is the standard MS sledgehammer approach of deleting just about everything then reinstall everything. I don't have the skill or the time. Does anyone have an answer to this ongoing "The Remote Procedure Call Failed" problem? There seems to be a large number of users with the same issue. Appreciate any help.

Hopefully this is an easy question for someone. I'm using a stand-alone workstation. From what I've been able to read online, RCP seems to be related to networks. But then I read on another site that this service is Vital and everything depends on it so leave it on automatic. Would love a simple answer as to if it is only for networks or do stand-alones need it too?

A couple weeks ago I was having some troubles with my Microsoft Word. I reloaded Office 2000 and it didn't help. So, at the suggestion of someone I downloaded Microsoft Service Pack #3 from the Microsoft Update web site. I think I had SP 1 & 2 already loaded. I can't remember. But it did an automatic scan of my computer and 1 & 2 didn't come up as needed . . . so I figured they must be on there.

Anyway, ever since I did this my scanner (cheapo "Vissioneer") won't work!!! When I try to use it a message comes up "Remote Procedure Call Failed". The scanner seemed to scan and preview but nothing would come up on my monitor after it would scan. I have put messages out on every board I could find on the Internet. (I just found this one today). Mostly I got two answers - uninstall Service Pack 3 or buy a new scanner.

I tried to uninstall Service Pack 3 but couldn't figure out how. It did not show up on my Uninstall Software/Programs list. So I bought a new scanner. I hooked it all up and POOF! "Remote Procedure Call Failed"!!!!! One person did tell me that this was an operating system error not a hardware error. But no one has yet to tell me what "remote procedure call" is!

The one other thing I have tried was to reinstall Windows 2000 over my present installation to see if it would automatically fix some internal problem. Well, it started to load - then stopped. It said it couldn't find some file (ca... Read more

A:Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Problem

Read other 14 answers

I've traced my problems to the fact that my Remote Procedure Call will not start. When I try to start it manually it says "Could not start the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service on Local Computer. Error 193: Oxc1".

I have replaced the RPC portion of the registry with that of another computer, same model running almost identical programs...made no difference.
When I try to register the rpcss.dll it says "rpcss.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered"

I have also noticed there is no rpcss.dll in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache folder (many others are missing here too), as there is in my fully functional machine. But without the RPC I cannot copy & paste so I have not found a way to put the rpcss.dll in there.

I have don all I can with my limited knowledge and I'm STUCK!
PLEASE help me.

P.S. It's a Dell Latitude D620 Laptop running XP Pro sp2 and was all up to date as of two weeks ago.
I am currently unable to paste anything I have cut or copied, Cannot open another window using right click - also any pages or programs that automatically open another window cannot do so. And some other less significant problems as well because of no RPC running.

A:PLEASE help me get Remote Procedure Call working

I seem to have the same exact problem. In addition, when I go to admin tools and try to restart the RPC, the properties menu wont appear so that I cant restart it. Copying and /or moving files will not work.

I did manage to get into safe mode, and with administrative mode, could keep from rebooting in 60 seconds. But am unable to do anything except view files.

Can someone please relay the problem and solution to this? Thanks in advance

Hello all,

Ive encountered a very worrying error message twice this evening and am wondering if anyone can tell me what the hell it is and also how to guarantee it isnt going to come back an haunt me.

I will be minding my own business, not doing anything in particular on the computer (i.e. playing BloodRayne or just on the internet) and a window box will pop up titled "system reboot/shut down" and then goes on to say something to the effect of Remote Procedure Call (RPC) has terminated unexpectedly, the computer must now be restarted. Please saved all work and close all programs, the system will restart in ... and then counts down from a minute.

Please help, I don't know what's causing this and how to get rid of it. The only thing that has changed on this computer before getting the error mesage between yesterday and today is installing Bloodrayne, Jedi Knight II and Project Eden...plus a load of stuff from Windows Update, which should be trusted, right?

I would appreciate all attempts to explain this problem.

I have had this laptop for just a week. Yesterday I started to encounter a problem whereby when I attempted to open a photograph through the Photo application I received a blank screen with a dialogue stating "The remote procedure call failed". Furthermore when I attempted to access many other applications .E.G. Calculator, Camera, Maps, People Skype, to name a few,  a screen would flash and that would be it. When I encountered this I contacted HP support and they logged into my laptop and the solution was to create a new id. That might have been satisfactory as a one-off but now it has happened to two other ids on the laptop.I have installed no other software on the laptop other than what came with it. To say I am fed up with this would be an understatement. As I said I have only had the laptop a week. Can anybody offer a solution for this problem before I send the laptop back to HP to restore and sort out. Perhaps you can understand my utter frustration. I would greatly appreciate any assistance and advice.

You should carry out a Full anti Virus, Trojan, Worm and Other nasty things Scan.

RPC is a typical error message caused by many viruses/worms.

Identify it (if it exists) and then delete it. You can ID virruss on the net and Symantec have a whole load of single removal tools, once you have name of offending Virus/worm.

My computer was recently infected with something that opens a window for a RPC (remote procedure call) with a timer of 60 seconds. This will pop up usually after getting into windows, after 60 seconds my computer shutsdown. For the momment I use the command "shutdown -a" to abort this countdown. Created desktop shortcut for convenience.

Many functions on my computer do not work. I noticed the number of processes are signifcantly reduced, however sometimes I have upto 5-6 svchost.exe running. One or more of these processes constantly crashes giving me application errors. Generally shortly after the RPC will begin. I've run msconfig, most of the services have been stopped.

-Im unable to connect to the internet or any network. (Infact nothing is listed in network connections, trying to create a new one does nothing)
-Im unable to run my virus protection
-Unable to paste files, folders, etc
-Ocasional blue screen of death relating to 'File System'
-Most programs crash randomly
+many many more odd things

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried searching these forums and google, but I dont know what Im searching for.

Howdy all, running Win 2K Pro, and like a classic fool I was messing around with Services and somehow disabled the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service.

Now, I can't get it to run again. In fact, I can't even get the Services page to display a property page any more, so I'm effectively shut out of the Services module. Some of my startup apps are unhappy with me as well.

I fooled around with a few other things, but I'm fairly certain this is the one that's causing the problem. I tried using Safe Mode, or MSCONFIG to boot again, but no matter how I boot, it's still disabled.

Am I looking at a reinstall?? Is there any other way to "undisable" this service??

(I had this version for a long time and want to try using it again).

After the installation by InstallShield, at the point the install is just about complete, I get an error message popup:

"The Remote Procedure Call Failed"

at this point the install freezes, requiring me to close the installation using the Task Manager.

Any ideas?

A:Remote Procedure Call Failed - error

It could be that the install program is trying to connect to the remote computer and there is nothing there for it to connect to seeing as this is an older version of the software the music match might have disabled their end. Have you tried downloading and installing a newer version?

when I do sfc /scannow it says I have to be an administrator but I am!!!

A:[SOLVED] remote procedure call failed

Start>Command Prompt>Run as Admin> sfc /scannow. It will work on the next cold boot. I thought the remote procedure call failed problem only occurs on servers, but you seem to be an individual user.

I have a computer that is infected with something. Every time it starts there is a dialog box with "Remote Procedure Call (RCP)" service has terminated unexpectedly and a timer that counts down from a minute and then shuts the computer down.

In order to run GMER i had to shut down this process using a "shutdown -a" command, then kill all processes through GMER in order for the dialog box to not come back and to be able to run GMER overnight.

I have tried to run several antivirus programs but none of them seem to be functioning (NOD32 pops up with a kernel error), though they were all installed on the computer prior to it being infected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: also I cannot start windows firewall

I am using Windows 8.1 and occasionally use the 'metro' or 'modern' functionality built into it to take a peek at my system settings.
Today when I tried to open "Add or remove devices" or "Windows Update Settings", a full screen window displaying a gear pops up for a moment and then disappears followed by an error message which states:

It had something to do with my account possibly as I could see my username and its associated data followed by the critical error.

That's not all, I could not open "Change PC Settings" too. Now this wouldn't seem to be much of an issue as it would be possible to handle it via the traditional way of accessing control panel.

If I remember correctly, the remote procedure call is a critical system service but I assume it has nothing to do with this, will it?

Any idea on how this error occurred and means to rectify it without performing the dreaded system reset?

I just installed Windows XO Pro. Every so often (sometimes 5 or 15 minutes into a seesion) this dialog box appears

This System is shuttint down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved work will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT Authority\System

Windows must now restart Becaise the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.

I have reinstalled Windows XP Pro and this still happens.

Could anyone tell me what this is.

A:Remote Procedure call terminates unexpectedly

I hope this helps. The person I gave this advice to on another thread didn't get back to us, so I don't know if it helped him...but it helped me at one time.

Then again, my advice may have blown up his computer, and that's why he didn't return.

Type this into a Google search:

There are a number of sites that offer this patch for download.

Or, here's where it was give to me...

(This is an excellent thread, BTW, where I ask all the right questions...LOL.)

I keep getting an error message 'Remote Procedure Call Failed' in Windows 8 when I try and open certain apps (photos, video's, Skype, mail, messaging, etc).
I have been through several forums and gone through recommended steps prior to posting this here.  These include:
* changing my account to a windows account
* updating windows and apps and synching apps
* uninstalling AV
* disabled Windows Firewall
* Ran the windows app troubleshooter
* Updated ALL drivers - including graphics card
I'm so lost without being able to use my apps.  PLEASE PLEASE help me!
Thanks so much :-)

A:Remote Procedure Call Failed - Windows 8

The issue is mostly caused by incorrect or missing registry. Please ensure you have the following registry first.

After checking that, please download SetACL.exe from
http://helgeklein.com/download/. Extract the zip SetACL.exe to C:\Windows\System32 folder. Then set the permissions using the following command:
SetACL -on "hkcu\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy" -ot reg -actn ace -ace "n: S-1-15-2-2608634532-1453884237-1118350049-1925931850-670756941-1603938316-3764965493;p:full;i:so,sc;m:grant;w:dacl"Niki Han
