Access desktop with touch screen

Q: Access desktop with touch screen

Hello

I will be running a full screen program on a windows 8 all-in-one pc. The computer will be placed in a public place and i would not like a user to be able to access the desktop. A program will be preloaded and takes up the entire screen. I have heard that a person will be able to access the desktop just by swiping the screen. Is this correct?

Preferred Solution: Access desktop with touch screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi keerati,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Check the Touch funtionality in OKR environment.
Turn off the computer and Turn it back on and right away start tapping F2.
Select Recovery. Once in the Recovery screen Test the touchscreen by touching any of the option if it will respond.

If the touchscreen works in OKR Environment, I suggest you perform a One key recovery (expect dataloss).

If the touchscreen still did not work in OKR Environment, I suggest you call Lenovo Technical Team for assistance.

I have an HP all-in-one TouchSmart 320 PC, that is about 4 years old. About a month ago we went to turn it on and nothing happened. Originally, we thought it was the power source as the power supply box green light was flashing. We have tried 3 different cords and still nothing. Can anyone tell us what is going on? I do remember that before we tried to turn it on about a week prior to that I had shut down the computer, but it had updates so it was doing that but I never paid attention how it shut off, whether expected or unexpectedly. Can anyone help?!?

Help! I bought a gateway touch screen computer for my daughter a month ago, for 563 at best buy. Our cats knocked it off the desk and broke the screen so I called geek squad and they said it costs 800 to fix it! This can't be right! He said the screen was around 600 and the rest was labor. How could they have sold it for 563 if the screen alone costs 600? I watch shark tank and know that normally things sell for at least twice what it costs to make so that can't be right. And who would ever wanna buy one knowing this? My question is ---- does anyone know where I can get this repaired for less? There must be someone out there somewhere that can do it for 2 or 3 hundred. I can't buy a brand new one, I don't have that much money. Please help.

I was walking through Best Buy the other day and noticed somthing that I havnt seen before or paid much attention to so if this is somthing that has been discussed before then pardon me.
HP has a few systems out that ship with touch screen monitors.

Do you think that this is somthing that can become a norm in desktop computing ? I personally think that it is cool, but as far as functuality goes there is really not a point. The monitors that I played with where really kind of had a touchy touch interface and it really didnt seem as I could do anything faster with my finger on the screen than I could do with a mouse. In my opinion, mouse control was probably twice as fast.

The only real application that I could see a touch desktop monitor used for is hands on applications for children such as paint and a few games designed around the concept or for somone that has a disability that does not let them grip a mouse functionally.

Touch panals do have their place in industry as it makes very quick work for bar tenders to select a inventoried item or any retailer/resturant for that matter or for such things as time clocks at factories so I am for it in that aspect.

I guess I just wanted some views and insight on what everyone thinks of this new concept to desktop computing and what pros and uses you can come up with.

Thanks

A:Touch Screen Desktop Monitors A Good Idea?

Hi

In the EPOS industry touch screens are standard and work best as they eliminate the keyboard which is a weak point in security, as users like to press buttons and those who are savvy can use the keyboard to do things that we as a supplier dont want them to do.

As for home use i cant see the practicality of them, no left click to start with, like you said unless someone builds a program designed and workable for a touch screen then its a no starter.

I have a hp pavilion touchsmart 15-n029so. Unfortunately my touch screen is defect, so 5-6 points on the screen is constant active. Until recently I managed to disable the driver for only the touch driver (not the screen) through device manager, but then a lately update for windows 10 activated the driver again. So now the 5-6 points is constant active, and I cannot login because the screen will not focus on the login field.  This means I cannot login to windows 10. I have also tried to start safe mode (turning off computer repeatly, so it starts up in safe mode), but here the touch screen driver is also active.  How can I disable the touch screen driver without login into windows 10?

My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

Hey everybody, I just received my P40 last week as a replacement for another Lenovo device. So far, everything seems to work fine with one exception: When I turn the screen over to the "tablet position", the touch screen and the touch pen show erroneous behaviour.a) As soon as I make the first input with the touch pen, I cannot make any further input with my finger, so the touch input is simply turned off. The Windows setting to ignore touch input when the stylus is used is not active.b) When I try to tap buttons at certain areas of the screen, especially at the upper edge, the cursor of the stylus starts jumping around and shows up at the lower edge of the screen. That means that when I for example tap on the "X" symbol in the upper right corner to close a window, I actually click on some of the symbols in the system tray in the lower right corner. This problem stops occuring as soon as the angle between the two case parts (screen and keyboard) reaches/exceeds approx. 40. It does not matter if Windows is in "Tablet" or "Desktop" Mode. I already tried to manually install another Wacom driver mentioned at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/Wacom-Tablet-Service-for-ISD-Driver-Win... and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P40-Yoga-issues/td-p/3293985. Hi Magnutus, welcome to the forums.

Please check if you Lenovo S210 is on warranty under with this tool.
After that you can open a ticket with Lenovo for the screen to be fixed, if it is not under warranty it will have a cost.

If you are the guys that like to fix it yourself (and it is not under warranty) I can recommend you to check the support site for your model, read the Hardware Maintenance Manual (on the documents area) and check how the machine is organized on the inside. On the parts lookup page you can find the parts number so you can find a replacements for the component that is giving you issues.

I hope this links helps you.

Hello, My Thinkpad Yoga is connected to a large display through ThenkPad docking station.  Its lid is closed.   During my work, from time to time I see random touch clicks on my screen, and random opening of menus.  It is clear that the touch screen is active although the lid is closed.  When I open the lid, and still connected just to the 2nd display (large screen) display the phenomena stops.  Worth noting is that although only the 2nd display shows an image, the laptop touch screen is still sensetive to touch.  This is I guess why the random touches show up on the screen -- it feels the keyboard not fingers. I expect the touch screen to be disabled while the lid is closed or when projecting only to the 2nd screen.  The solution of opening the lid while connected to the docking station is not acceptable.  Lenovo's local support suggestion to disable touch for the Yoga is also not acceptable -- people purchase Yoga to get Touch.   A solution please! Yaron

The touchscreen stopped working suddenly on my Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx. At first i though it was like a normal failure and that will get fixed by turning the pc off or restarting so I did not pay attention to it until now that I had restart my pc multiple times. Currently running win10. I started to believe it was because of an update a few days ago since it was when the problem started but all drivers and everything is up to date. I have checked for the HID-compliant Touch Screen driver and had to  show hidden divices in order to find it. I cannot enable it and when i check in the properties the following message displays: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. First of all I was running Windows 8 everything was fine. Upgraded to Windows 8.1 everything was good at first. Months after doing so my touch screen started acting up. It would only work when I position the screen a certain way. So I stopped messing with it because I thought it was a wiring problem inside the computer. I would fix it later, And then sadly I upgraded to Windows 10. I noticed shortly after there was no touch screen options at all. It says there is no Pen and Touch. Today it was listed in the control panel so I started messing with it. Drivers were there all up to date. They said the Device did not migrate. It was 2 or 3 drivers listed for the touch screen and they all said the same thing. After a restart they were no longer in the device manager and no options in the control panel anymore. Please help me figure this out... Thank you.

What's the model name and complete model number of that Toshiba?
(2 sets of characters separated by a dash comprise the complete model number)

If that Toshiba wasn't tested for and doesn't provide driver support for Windows 10, you can expect some of its devices not to work properly or not work at all.
That tends to be more of a problem with laptops than it does with desktops.

Hello,
I recently did a clean install of a full version of Windows 8 on my computer. Some of my Apps on the start screen, ie Weather, News, Maps, Travel, Skydrive and other Apps such as Slacker Radio and Weather Radar Pro will open but give me a "no connection to the internet" message. If I switch over to my Desktop I have an internet connection.
I checked the charm bar/settings/Internet Access and it says "no connections available". The curious thing is the Live Tiles for the News and Travel will update and show the latest information, yet when I open them I get the "no connection available" message. I have no problem with the Store App, Explorer, Email or Music App. Those seem to work fine.

I removed my Anti-virus software, re-installed the Apps and still get the same results. For my internet connection I'm using a Virgin Mobile OverDrivePro2E7 WiFi Hub. I'm not using the Wifi, it is plugged directly into my computer via a USB port. If I go into Control Panel/Network Connections it shows up as EtherNet2 with a strong connection.

Thanks for any help.

No programs will intialize. And I get a Windowx Explorer error. You know the ones where you have the option to report the problem or don't send it. I get that for Windows Explorer which I think is bad news. Then the dialog prompt dealio comes up saying that C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\ cannot be accessed, access is denied. If I press ok on this, I lose my task bar.

I would just re-boot windows as the pinned said, but I don't think I can find the boot discs, the computer is only 3-4 years old. Any help, tips or anything would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

I have an acer aspire M3 581T-6405 series ultrabook, but my screen is broken. Can I replace it with a touch screen from an Acer Aspire M5-583P-6428? Whether the touch screen works as a touch screen or not is irrelevant I just want to be able to use my laptop.

I bought an hp 15-ac121dx for a friend* a while back, but not long ago. A few days ago she called me to tell me, when she got home the laptops screen was cracked and spoilt. so, I checked the price for a new touch screen replacement, and low and behold: its freaking expensive. All I want to know is: can I buy any of the old LCD or LED laptops screens and replace it?

Hi allI got hit with a Trojan last night - thread here: Trojan horse: Backdoor.Generic12.GOG.dropper and having done a GMER rootkit scan, I'm left with a black screen no matter what I do.Even in safe mode, I get the black screen with "safe mode in the corners" and all I can do is use task manager. Am also getting a dialogue box that says "FFE.EXE has stopped working ..." - could be a virus offspring or something else. Can no longer get on the web via any browser, so downloading fixes appears to be a challenge.I don't have the original Vista discs so is there any way to fix the black screen or at least retrieve all my files (via some kind of cable or USB card)?ThanksNS

After clicking on what is now apparent to have been a false windows update screen I can't access my desktop.
My laptop is part of a domain, though I use the laptop outside of the office 98% of the time. After I enter in my username and password I can see my desktop wallpaper for a few seconds but then it returns to the Welcome Winodws CTRL+ALT+DEL screen each time.
When I try to access Safe Mode the same thing happens.

Any suggestions on how I can get back to my desktop would be appreciated.

I put my Dell laptop (win7 64 bit OEM) to sleep last night, this morning it just froze so I used the power button to restart. When it got to the desktop, the shortcut icons loaded but then the cursor went into a continuous spinning circle. Nothing happens when I clicked on the window icon on lower left and the start menu would not show. Also no response when I clicked on any of the shortcut icons. The only way out is to force shut with the power button

I went to safe mode and ran ESET, malwarebytes and Avast Free, no problem. Chkdsk and memtest are all ok. I have not made any changes or added any new programs the last few days.

I can see all my files in safe mode but cannot open any of them, as a test I used a USB stick to transfer a few photo files to an old laptop and they all looked intact.

Tried to use system restore but to my shock it said no restore points, I'm sure that's not how I set it up. I also tried using "repair computer" that is accessed from F8 but it just hung for like 30 mins. I already spent hours looking for solutions online but haven't come across anything.

I'm not computer saavy, please help, what is happening? Thank you very much

In the long run, I recommend Hybernate or Shutdown. If there were some important OPs running in the background at the time of Sleep-invoking, I'm wondering if such got "gummed up." I think Hybernate, like Shutdown, stops any/all running processes & services & whatknots just before creating the Hybernation File.
I take it you already F8 booted and tried "Last Known Good Configuration" option? It's possible you can do a Start Repair from your OEM or MS blue-disk CD/DVD; if no CD/DVD, on another computer with same-bit Windows, you can create a USB boot-stick w/necessary Start Repair.

HP Pavillion DV2915 preloaded with Windows Vista Home Premium
System boots, allows me to enter my password and then displays a black screen with the menu bar at the bottom. I cannot see my desktop. I can only get my wallpaper to work by running Webshots Desktop. The start menu works and lets me run Word, Excel, IE, Outlook etc (all of which are legitimate versions). I can access my documents using those programs. I can access task manager etc. Explorer.exe is running. "My Documents" is not visible and clicking on my username or the C drive does nothing. When I right click on the C drive and select open a window opens very briefly and then closes. I also wasn't able to access a flash drive that I attached as a test. It is like something is closing some programs as soon as they open. When I tried to register for this site on that computer it would not let me do it so I had to use another computer. I have run virus and spyware programs and nothing comes up - I am extremely careful that way and don't think that is the cause. I can boot into safe mode and have run msconfig, disabled services and reenabled them selectively - but can't seem to find anything - but then I am not sure what I am looking for. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hey All,

Ive been searching on the net since Friday and found a variety of "solutions", but none of them have worked... Here's my issue:

Back when it was released, I installed Windows 8 preview on a new partition of my Windows 7 laptop. Ive been switching back and forth no problem, but about a month ago when trying to log in, I typed in my password and was stuck at the black screen with a cursor. After a few restarts and startup repairs it sorted itself out.

Now, it's happened again, but this time, startup repair isn't doing the trick. It reports no OS found in the error.

I am dual booting between 7 and 8, and in trying to login to 7, typing my password, it again brings me to the black screen with a cursor. I cannot press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reach the task manager and manually start explorer.exe, and same thing happens in safe mode.

I have checked my C drive and saw there were backups of my explorer.exe, so I tried to switch them up with the current one. At one point, I could get to my desktop and see all of my taskbar icons, however hovering over the taskbar would show a loading cursor and I could not open anything. Restarting again brought me back to the black screen.

I have tried fixboot, fixmbr, BCD editor, etc, to no avail. I have also tried "last known good configuration", system restore (which reports no restore points...) and checking the registry to verify explorer.exe is the only listing in the Shell file.

Also, virus scan MBAM and othe... Read more

Have you looked at using Apple's Magic trackpad? Many people think it will only work on mac, but it does work on windows as well (Using a bit of a work around using apples bootcamp drivers so that mac users can run windows).
