Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 Intermittent Charging

Q: Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 Intermittent Charging

Hello, When I am charging my laptop, sometimes it charge and not. Its really trouble me when the battery reached less than 10%, then I plug in power, the Battery Low Notification always showed up (because the charging is intermittent). I've tried several ways which are told by this forum, like instal new BIOS (the latest on internet), or uninstal-instal battery driver on Hardware Manager, but it didnt work. I affraid if this continously happen, it will affect my battery function. Btw, I am using windows 8.1.Have any thoughts to fix that?Or maybe its a problem in the mechanic? Best regards.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I bought this machine in May 2015.  I began to have problems with it not too long after but since I was abroad I coud not send it out.  I finally sent it out in April 2016 (right before warranty ended).  They fixed some of the issues and sent it back, sadly I had to go back before I could get my laptop in May 2016.  I came back about 4 weeks ago and have been using it again since. Today as I was working on it after I plugged it in (it was at 7% battery), I noticed it only charged to 99%, it didn't show 100% like it typically does.  I didn't think anything of it and just went about my work. When I changed stations and moved upstairs I plugged it back in and noticed it is not charging at all. Tried several outlets, and tested the adapter, all is fine.  The kicker is when I unplug the adapter the laptop shuts off too, even tough I was 70% battery life.  Then it takes 10 or more seconds of holding the power button to fire it back up. I am pretty distraught over this. Would be grateful for any advice on what is going on. This machine is basically new! I have used only a handful of months and now my warranty is over! I can't afford another one or repairs

i have searched through the forums and have not found a decent solution for this problem.  When I power on my laptop from off, or wake it from sleep, I will randomly lose functionality to either the Touch Screen, or both the Keyboard and Trackpad, or at other times I will lose functionality to all three.  Other times all three regain functionality and work perfectly fine until the next time it sleeps or powers off.  I see the keyboard and trackpad in Device Manager at all times, even when they don't function, on the other hand, the touch screen with swing in and out of Device Manager, The touch screen works 100% of the time it shows in Device Manager, and fails to function 100% of the time it does not show.   Any Ideas Why?

Fortunately, Amazon sent me a new one. Few days ago, impossible to start again the laptop. No charge, the charge led doesn't work, nothing happens... I bought a new adpater to Amazon but unfortuntely, nothing happened with the new one, no charge led, no start, nothing... I tried to remove the battery, push on power button during 30 seconds, replug the battery and start but the same nothing happened. No warrantly...Do you have an idea? Please help me, i bought this laptop 800 euros two years ago.... Thanks. Eric

To start, I have seen the thread about a high pitched noise issue with this device's fan, and I don't think my problem is the same one. I have an ongoing issue with my Yoga 3 (full specs below), where for most of the time that the fan is spinning, it makes a loud grinding noise as if there's something stuck in the fan or the blade is off balance. I've only had the laptop for six months and it wasn't a problem when I bought it - it's developed since. The fan still seems to cool the laptop properly, and I've had no warnings from the device, but it's audible in quieter rooms and definitely isn't normal. I've installed the BIOS update that was recommended for a similar fan issue, and I've used OneKey Optimiser to run the fan cleaning tool several times - nothing has changed so far. I'm not sure what to do next. Should I attempt to open the machine and clean the fan unit with compressed air/investigate further, or should I contact someone about a repair? Thanks Aaron

Hi aaroncawte ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As what you have already described , seems that you have done what is needed fro the fan noise issue.
Noting that the issue is mechanical in nature , please give tech support a call for the needed service .
No need to open the chassis for further steps not to invalidate the seal / warranty and have the tech run further check.

You can however run Lenovo Solution Center for the hardware test just to check on other parts that can also be affected and likewise temperature check at the moment of the noise for baseline data.

My Lenovo was purchased back in 2015, so the warrenty is expired. Still, up until recently the touchscreen had been working fine. Now, no matter what mode it is in, it doesn't detect my touch. I have gone through every Google-searched solution I could find, none have worked.I have gone to device manager, checked the drivers for updates (they are up to date) but the window doesnt allow me to Disable/Enable the driver. I've used the lenovo website, the companion app and my windows control panel to check for updates but no changes to the touch screen. Running Windows 10 (64x) Solutions, or links to other form posts are appreciated.

Hi, yestarday I was using my laptop with several opened applications and 1 hangouts video call active.Well, the CPU has decided to freeze at 0.5 GHz due to the generated heat. The laptop of course became unusable, so I closed everything and restarted the system. Once the reboot was completed I noticed that frequency was still at 0.5 GHz. Then I ran an Ubuntu live usb and I checked the CPU: again, still at 0.5GHz. I came back to Windows 10, I made a bit of research and I used ThrottleStop. I unticked the BD Prochot and then the laptop came back to life with frequency at 2.9 GHz (for the sake of precision it works even without turning on Throttle stop...you only need to launch the app and untick the prochot). Now, the problem is that I can use the laptop with all its capabilities only after I run Throttle stop. In all the other cases, even when I boot my laptop, frequency is at 0.5 GHz (and you understand it is working at low frequency because it lags a lot). Investigating a bit, I found that only motherboard replacement can fix this issue.....really? What do you think? Do you any kind of solution?

Hi guys, I am opening this post because I think that it could be useful to everyone who would like to solve several issues related to this laptop. I think that it is a really good notebook but it needs a lot of work to have it working in a proper way.So first of all I am posting here a link of a doc in which I am monitoring several issues I encountered and how I solved them. I know that it is not very easy to read it because its style is personal notes-like but I am sharing it anyone...probably someone can find the information it needs.Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 80JH monitoring doc

A:Lenovo Yoga 3 - 1470 (80JH) - General issues to so...

In this second post I am sharing the configuration to use with Notebook Fan Control software (probably some of you already know about this software if you hate the noise which fans of this laptop are able to do!). I added of course some considerations I noticed in preparing this config. Here we are... Yoga 3 1470 80JH using Windows 10 and NBFC 1.4.2.I appreciated a lot the work done by Mr. Cheeze but I found it incomplete, so I basically investigated the issue a bit more.I did not open the notebook but I found online that it is equipped with 2 fans. So, first step was adding the 2nd fan. Then I started to investigate if we can effectively control the fans and the answer is NO, but we can play a bit to force them to have a behavior. My target was only one: REDUCE the FANS NOISE and consequently their speed, because I think that this laptop is almost able to work in fanless mode (and believe me I stress it a lot, especially in terms of multitasking). Before showing my personal code to be used in NBFC I am giving you some information I retrieved by the Read&Write software (32bit version works well).?When Fans starts HEX values show up at position 6 and 254. These are the 2 actual speed values of the fans.?The target values (so where you have to write the desired fans speed) are in position 86 and 176. I am not totally sure if they are the effective position to write but they seem the only position which considerably vary according to the change of... Read more

Hello, I have a Lenovo Yoga 3-1470 64-bit, which was originally windows 8. After updating to windows 10, the audio (Conexant HD Audio) starts to have some problems, such as the need to keep restarting my laptop to get the audio back. Recently it has gotten worse, hence I decided to uninstall the Conexant HD Audio driver from my device manager, with the hope that I can reinstall the updated windows 10 Conexant HD Audio driver. But after uninstalling, I found out that I cannot reinstall it back. The device driver installation wizard will only install for 2 - 3%, then a messagebox ERROR will appear stating that "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the device for this driver." I have tried installing windows 8 and 10 versions of the Conexant HD Audio Drivers, but they do not work. Currently, my audio isn't working anymore. Can anyone help me, Thank you very much.

Hi there! Need help. Obviously. Hope people still look at this fourm... I have a Lenovo Yoga 3 1470 Laptop. When the reset was finished it updated and reloaded itself with Windows 10. Everything seemed fine at first... HOWEVER, the touch screen is not responding to anything. I can fold the laptop into tablet mode, the physical keyboard will shut off but it will not respond to touches by any means. The Pen & Touch information in windows settings says that Pen & Touch are not available for this device. I have checked the drivers and the HID-Compliant Driver is NOT THERE (it was at first but it was greyed out and gave me a code 45).  Tent mode also doesn't work. I can flip the computer over, and Auto -Rotate will appear on the screen but the screen never flips. I have searched high and low on Google and Lenovo but perhaps I am missing something, a driver update or ...anything. While the subject states my problem, I do have some ways of getting use out of the computer:It can turn on if the battery is fully drained and after the computer is plugged in; it takes 8 days to drain. [Pressing and holding the power button only results in the PC flashing its backlit keyboard.] The battery can recharge and the PC can run on battery just as long the PC does not shut down, go to sleep, or the lid closes.Battery removal with the PC plugged in: the PC can always turn on, but when closing the lid or shutting it off, the power cord has to be unplugged and plugged back in.Additional computer information:-Windows 8.1 with updates-Installed BIOS update and Windows hotfix update from Lenovo.com

6 months ago I bought a Lenovo Yoga 520 14IKBR, and now it won't charge any more while turned on. If we plug it in, the led goes white - and starts flickering orange after a few second, the computer seems to think that the power is not plugged in, and the battery doesn't charge. However, if we first switch off the computer, and then plug it in, it does charge normally. I guess therefore that there is no hardware problem, but a software issue.Somewhere on the internet we found a similar story, and according to them the solution would be a BIOS update. And indeed, the computer says there is a BIOS update waiting to be installed. However - because the computer thinks that the power is not plugged in, the BIOS update refuses to install - 'please plug in power'... So ... first question is of course if that BIOS update would indeed solve our problem. If not, is there another solution? If yes, how can we install that BIOS update safely while the computer thinks it is on battery power?

We own a Lenovo Yoga 910 and in the last couple days, it is no longer able to charge.  The battery is currently at 13%.  The following 4 situations happen when the power cable (lenovo 45w usb c that came with the laptop) is plugged into the laptop.1) The laptop does not recgonize that the power cable is plugged in at all. 2) In rapid succession, the laptop acts as if the cable is being plugged in and unplugged over and over. The power cable icon will display for about a second, then dissapear, then display, then dissapear, etc.  It will even change the brightness of the screee as it attempts to switch power modes from battery to power.  The only way to stop this behavior is to unplug the cord completely. 3) The laptop shows that the power cord is plugged in, but states that the battery is currently discharging.4) The laptop shows that the power cord is plugged in, says its charging, but the battery continues to drain even though it says it is charging. Windows 10 is fully up to date.  We have run all Lenovo software updates so all Lenovo software is up to date.  The BIOS is also up to date (the June '17 BIOS).  There have been no recent new software installations or physical impacts / changes to the laptop. I have purchaced a 3rd party charger that matches the specs of the Lenovo charger and the same 4 situations happen.  I have confirmed that the charger works to charge other devices. My laptop suddenly stopped charging. I've checked the adapter, it still provides the USB power to charge my mobile phone. I can also charge my phone from the residual charge in the battery. So the remaining possibilities are that the charger isn't producing 20V power, the wire has gone bad or there's a problem within the laptop.  The replacement charger costs a pretty penny and will take time. Is there any way of checking if the wire or the charger block are working or not ? The alternative of taking it to Lenovo sucks, can't work for a while. ThanksRahul

A:Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 1370 not charging

First, is it still under warranty? Many are.   If it is, call support.   Do you know anyone with another machine where you can borrow an adapter?  The Yoga 700 and Yoga 900 use the same sort of plug except they have a max power draw of 65W.  The 700 and 900 don't work right on the Y. 3 pro's 40-w adapter, but your machine is OK with the larger one.  I looked at the adapter and the power cord and  it would be difficult to test the output with a meter, without shorting something out.  I have all sorts of tools and meters, and I takeapart and fix machines, so if it were mine, I would open the machine and pick up the input leads from inside and test with a meter.  If you are not comfortable doing that kind of thing, don't risk making it worse.  DON'T OPEN UP AND WORK ON A MACHINE THAT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.

I bought a Lenovo Yoga 720 - 15IKB two weeks ago. The laptop works fine except for one important detail: it has never recognized the AC adapter as being plugged in. Basically when the PC is on, even if plugged in, it will drain down to 5% and turn itself off. But when it is off and plugged in, it charges up to 100% battery without a problem. How can I get my laptop to charge while plugged in? As it charges without issue when turned off, I want to think it is more of an issue with drivers or BIOS than the AC adapter and power connection.  All Windows updates and Lenovo System Updates have been installed, except for one: BIOS Update - 10 [64]When I install and then run this update, I get this blue screen of death Windows Error DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Battery drivers in the Device Manager several times. I restored battery settings to default, tweaked them, and set them back to default with no avail. Can anyone help or make any suggestions??? Thank you very much!

Moreover, the battery icon initially shows the animated one which indicates charging is indeed in progress, then after a few moments, it will freeze on the estimated level. Before this, my laptop's battery usually charges relatively quickly. Also, I have not turned on the Conservation Mode so it must charged up beyond 50-60% especially if I leave it plugged in overnight. This issue is really bewildering me right now. Any comments or suggestions on how I can address this issue? Thanks!Other notes re my laptop:It's been around 10 months since I've bought it and I have encountered this issue only a few days ago.I have no other issues with it.

Hello everyone,  I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB. I've only have the unit for about three (3) weeks and the batter is no longer able to charge when connected to the power supply that came with the unit. I checked the AC adapter to make sure that it was properly connected to PC and it was. I plugged it to different outlets and it didn't help. I bought a replacement powersupply from my local MicroCenter and still nothing. I checked the Control Panel, open up the Power Options to see if there were any settings in there but nothing to show why it wasn't chraging. Then Opened the Device Manager. Under "Batteries" I saw two items, one for the battery and another listed as "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery". I Opened each item, which will brought up the Properties window. Under the "Driver" tab looked for "Update Driver." I went through the two options and did the same process of updating drivers. I went through the driver update process for all options. Once the drivers are all up to date, I rebooted the laptop and plug it in again. Then i unninstalled "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" completely and reboot. Still the problem persists.  I even updated all the windows Updates. Then I opened Lenovo's Companion app. I updated all the drivers that need updating and nothing changed. I still have my PC connected to AC power and the battery isn't charging. I opened the lenovo setting app and checked under battery section... Read more

A:Lenovo Yoga 720 13IKB No longer charging

Is it not charging at all, or just stuck at around 60%.    I ask because there i an option in Energy Management to select Maximum Battery Life, or Optimized Battery Health, and if set the latter (which I believe is the default), it will only charge to about 60 percent of capacity in an attempt to prolong the life of the battery.    Setting it to Maximum battery life will allow the batter to charge to 100% and you will get a longer run time, but you may have to replace the battery sooner.     If you leave the laptop usually plugged in, then optimized batter health is the better option. Cheers,

I tried the 40 second hold power button method but my charging still won't work I did a reset and reinstalled windows and it didn't work. Now my laptop is off and charger plugged in hoping that it will work. I've plugged in two chargers hopefully one will go through but I doubt it. There's no light or indicator that it's charging.  ANYONE help? My laptop is completely dead at this point.

Mfg date for this laptop is Oct 2014, Windows 10 OS. About a month back battery power was about 25% when I plugged charger in. the screen became brighter, means it was charging. Suddenly the computer shut down and though charger was connected, the charging light went off. Thereafter the computer did not turn on either with charger or without. Even the charging light did not turn on. Changed the charger as well as cable but neither charging indicator turned on nor computer turned on. It was like battery fully down and charger not connected. Took it to Lenovo service center and they made it alright and told me that they had disconnected the battery and reconnected. The power left in the battery was still 25%. Exactly same thing happened once again yesterday and I disconnected the battery and reconnected and it worked. Since it happened second time, whatever the problem may be, was not solved permanently by above procedure. Can someone help what could be the reason and how to solve it permanently?

Just recently started having problems with my Yoga 710. The laptop is fine but having some charging issues. When plugged into the charger, the white light instantly comes on stays on even when the laptop is powered off. When charging my computer no longer shows the orange light to indicate charging. The battery itself doesn't charge. At most, the battery percentage on-screen says 36%, but the laptop instantly does when unplugged from the AC adapter. I don't know if the battery is faulty or the computer is to blame due to some kind of software. Please help! This laptop isn't even a year old!!
