I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been having trouble with this for a few months now. It's getting annoying and I'm towards the end of my warranty status.  The screen would flicker, but not in the sense of the power coming in and out. The screen would stay on but there would be a flickering effect, sort of like ghosting. I'd appreciate any relatable experience and help towards a fix. I have tried full reset and installation of Windows and updating graphic drivers. No go. It started a few months ago and comes every 10-15 minutes or sometimes nothing for hours. Once in a while the screen goes and stays completely black until I shut and open the lid.   John

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and have a problem regarding setting up 4k displays:Equipment: Thinkpad x1 carbon 2017 (5 gen) with wqhd, thunderbolt 3 dock, 2 4k samsung displayshttps://support.lenovo.com/de/en/solutions/pd029622This is my target setup:1. 4k display at 60 hz connected via dock at dp1 (display port)2. 4k display at 60 hz connected via dock at dp2(ideall: 3. x1 carbon wqhd internal display on) My problem is that the second 4k display (a Samsung TV) did not connect when I connected it via the dock (picture shortly present, then goes away again, when trying again no picture at all). However it works (all 3 displays on) when I connect 2. via the hdmi connector directly at the laptop. Hence: is there any way to get it working like in my target setup? Thank you very much for your suggestions and ideas!Besterev

Hi all. The SSD of my X1C6 is surprisingly slow. Sequentially reading the first gigabyte of the device, right after boot, I get:# dd if=/dev/nvme0n1 bs=1M count=1024 of=/dev/null
1024+0 records in
1024+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB, 1.0 GiB) copied, 23.3171 s, 46.0 MB/s46 MB/s. I'm so sad. I also think it is getting worse as the days passes. Fstrim is running once a week, as by Ubuntu's default. I ran fstrim manually (and then rebooted after that), before the command above.Apart this slowness, everything works fine. Any ideas about what's going on? Suggestions? Thanks.

Running Ubuntu 18 on a Carbon X1 (Gen 7 or type 20QD). Plugged a moniter in throught the thunderbolt 3 port, which worked fine for a few weeks. One day I tried to extend the display but it didn't work. On the first try it was possible to change the primary display to the external monitor, but after switching things around a few times this stopped working as well. Now I can't even pick up a signal (the device is not shown in display or thunderbolt 3). I'm trying to connect through a cable plus adapter, so it's possible the problem is with one of those.

I would like to be able to boot my X1 Carbon 2017 5th Gen using Ubuntu installed on a microSD card.  I've spent time trying to figure this out and googling, but haven't been successful.  I would prefer this rather than Ubuntu on a USB stick for battery savings as well as covenience.  Any ideas or suggestions on how I can make this work?

A:Boot X1 Carbon 5th Gen using Ubuntu on MicroSD card

Good day.

This question comes up from time to time. In each case, the conclusion is that it's not possible due to the way the internal card slot interfaces with the system. If you'd like to scan through other members' experiences, you could use the search box on the upper right with: "boot sd card" for key words. A good number of suggested threads were shown when I tried just now.Regards.

I bought x1 carbon 7th gen to run Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS on it, but after installing the system I realized that it cannot work on this device. The screen is changing and mixing colors arbitrarily and disappearing which makes the machine completely unusable. This happens randomly and continuously. I tried applying some suggestions that I could find when people described similar circumstances but nothing helped so I had to switch back to Windows although I need Ubuntu to work. Has anybody experiencing the same issue managed to solve it? If so, please give the solution that worked for you. I am quite desperate with this problem. It might be related with graphics driver but it could be something else as well.

My Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 6th Gen (Model 20KHCTO1WW) has a SIM card slot at the back, but doesn't seem to have a WWAN module installed. I'd like to upgrade it with a WWAN module and found the 0A36186 mobile broadband module in the Lenovo shop. Does anyone have experience with this combination? Does it work with Ubuntu (18.04.1 LTS Bionic)?

Hello, I would like to set the color profile for my Carbon X1 Type 20FC using Ubuntu Linux. I can choose amongst many different profiles there but I am not sure what the right one is. When I look it up at Lenovo Support to follow this explanation of ThinkWiki, it leas nowhere, the Lenovo Link is apparently dead. I also tried downloading 79oi32ww.exe and opened it with innoextract but this gave me a bunch of INF files and I don't know what to do with which actually. I have no idea how to start and how to adjust it, as its a great laptop but however the colours seem a bit weird yellowish and the dark shades drift away and don't work at all at the moment. Thanks for any help, Paul

Just purchased X1C7 with 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVMe TLC OPAL. When reading the User Guide, on page 44, I came across this section: Use Power Loss Protection function (for selected models) For models shipped with an NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory express) M.2 solid-state drive, the M.2solid-state drive features the Lenovo-unique PLP (Power Loss Protection) function to avoid dataloss or damage. On very rare occasions, your computer is not responding and you might have to shutdown your computer by pressing and holding the power button for about seven seconds. In this case, the PLP function enables key data of your computer to be saved timely. However, there is no guarantee that all data is saved in any situation. (Emphasis added by me). To check the type of your M.2 solid-state drive:1.  Restart the computer. When the logo screen is displayed, press F10 to enter the Lenovodiagnostics window.2.  On the TOOLS tab, select SYSTEM INFORMATION ? STORAGE using the arrow keys.3.  Locate the Device Type section to check the information.  This is very startling.  I have two questions: 1.    What does this mean to me?  Is my data at risk of loss in case of power failure? 2.    The title of the section is "Use Power Loss Protection......"  Do I have to enable something to USE it, or is it enabled automatically. I've searched the entire Lenovo Knowledgebase, and done google searches for Lenovo PLP, Len... I cant get my VR headset to work, as it is complaining about an unsupported driver from Intel. When trying to update it to the one supporting Mixed Reality, its fails during the installation, and refers to Lenovo. Where can I find the supported Intel driver for my X1 Carbon so I can my Lenovo Explorer to work. Its really sad that two products from the same company doesnt seamlessly connect/update so things work.

Lenovo Gen 4(20FC) Carbon loses audio after Lenovo System Update We have several of the Gen 4 X1 Carbons here at work and they work fine until Lenovo system updates gets run. We have had 4 people run the system updates and now the system has no audio. If you click the audio icon in the try, windows begins diagnosing the system. If you try to install a different driver, it fails with code 1. No matter if you uninstall, reinstall, different versions of the driver....nothing seems to restore the audio. I finally did a system restore to before lenovo system update was run and the audio returned to working. It seems to be a software problem but I would really like to know if there is some way to get it working without having to restore every time someone runs lenovo system update.

After updating the BIOS and Thunderbolt firmware, I finally hoped the issues with the P50 and Ubuntu to end. They didn't.The issue with the monitor not being found are solved, but still having issues with the P50 & Ubuntu. It seems that the display gets detected as a different display all the time.Very often, when I start working the next morning, all of the configuration I applied to the displays, are lost.Extended displays and primary/secondary displays are gone and replaced by "mirrored" all the time. Atleast once a month, everything gets messed up and Ubuntu refuses to boot. nVidia configuration is broke. If I'm lucky, reinstalling (with purge) gets the Ubuntu back up and running again. If I'm not, it refuses to boot until I selected "hybrid" display mode in the BIOS. Again, if I'm lucky, I can now boot with only 1 resolution (640x480). Eventually, I just reinstall Ubuntu as this is the easiest path to go. Hybrid display mode is a no go for me, I need the extended display. As our IT departement can't be of any more aid (Lenovo refuses to respond to further question and aid for this laptop and we have many Lenovos here), I'm wondering if others are having these issues and/or found a solution?

Hello,    I am looking to replace my aging Lenovo T420S and Lenovo x1 Carbon 1st generation. They have both served me well and I am happy with both.  I like the touch of Carbon but don?t use it that often. The machine will be perosnla machine but will be used for personal and business/work use. I saw the T460S and x1 Yoga yesterday at our IT department. I like the built quality of Lenovo T460S including keyboard but found X1 Yoga to be fragile. I couldn?t get my hands on X1 Carbon 4th generation and found out that it doesn?t have touch anymore. The weight difference is minimal between the three machines and I personally like the weight, feel and ruggedness of Lenovo T460S. Bottom line is does anyone have experience with these three machines? I can afford to replace only one machine now and it will be fully loaded (i7, 16GB and 1Tb PCIe-NVME drive). Is x1 Yoga rugged and reliable? The difference between X1 Carbon 4th Gen and T460S seems minimal. Thank You!Subhash

I wanted to install linux system besides windows 10. So I had been starting instalattion of Fedora, yet it finished wrong. System didn't opened despite turning off secure boot and UEFI. So, I deleted partition with Fedora. I had installed Ubuntu and it was an enormous error. Whole UEFI (BIOS) was out of order. I need to have my computer repaired. Fortunately, I had a few months of guarantee. After this,I learned about errors with ubuntu. Now, I think about this. Linux is banned for Lenovo Flex 2 Pro.

Hi there, I have been having difficulty in getting a second monitor to work with Ubuntu, and was hoping someone with better skills than me has found a fix for it. I'm running a Lenovo P50, Xeon E3-1505v5, 64Gb RAM, 4Gb Quadro M2000M as a dual boot Windows 10/Ubuntu 16.04 workstation. Windows detects the second monitor both using HDMI and with a displaylink-compatible USB dock. In Ubuntu, plugging a second monitor directly into the HDMI port doesn't seem to get recognized. Using a monitor through a USB dock (with latest Ubuntu displaylink driver; 1.1.62) also doesn't get recognized, despite the fact that if I runsytemctl status displaylink.serviceit states the service is active. I'm guessing this is an issue with the dual graphics set up on the machine, although there's enough Skylake processors out there now that I don't think this kind of set up is too unusual. According to the 'overview' window (under "system settings", "details") in Ubuntu, I'm using the Intel P530 graphics (integrated on the skylake processor) rather than the Nvidia, although running:lspci | grep VGAdisplays both cards:00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 191d (rev 06)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107GLM [Quadro M2000M] (rev ff)I'm using the nouveau display driver from the X.Org X server in the 'Additional Drivers' section of the 'Software & Upadates' window. This section states my graphics card is the M2000M, so I tried using a num... Read more
