I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. I had this one all of a week. Did I miss any other steps while I wait for it to be repl... Read more

Since the last Thunderbolt firmware update the DP ports no longer work. No matter what settings you try, no signal is detected. The only way to use monitors now seems to be to use the front USB-C port and connect it to the first monitor and then use DP daisy chain from monitor 1 to monitor 2. We have 2 Thunderbolt docks with the Update installed and both have the issue. We have one with the stock firmware and it works flawless.  Anyone else having the same issue? Any idea how to fix?

As the only docking solution available and moving from a more traditional dock, its less than suitable.  HP needs to make a longer cable and the end that connects to the laptop should be at a right angle.  The cable is so stiff and thick it takes nearly 4" to make the turn.  HP makes it impossible to find this out how long the cable is with out purchasing and at that point your stuck with it.  Hardly a customer satisfaction issue they should want to propigate!

Love the concept of the thunderbolt 3 dock, can't fathom how it was designed though.  On my zBook 15 G3, the power and thunderbolt ports are on the right side of the laptop.  The dock has the cable port on the left rear side, completely crossing over all the ports when you put the dock on a desk with the back facing away from  you.  Then they ship a cable that is barely long enough to put the dock directly behind the laptop and connect it.   Where do I buy a longer cable HP, please!

I already typed something here, since I thought it is related:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-gen-BIOS-update-broke-external-... Pulling Thunderbolt cables was fine. After a while:Pulling Thunderbolt cables gave me 1 in 3 cases a bluescreen (internal power error). I did a BIOS / Thunderbolt / Driver update on 21th of May 2019. Everything was fine, restart worked. Went to work, this time, turned into standbye before pulling the cable. Everything was fine. At home, I opened the Screen after getting out of Sleep (old Linux Standby), saw the welcome for a short moment, and than bluescreen again.  Reboot, ... freezes in BIOS. Directly at the "Lenovo" Splash screen, before having the chance to put on the finger on the fingerprint reader.Super laggy. Tried EVERYTHING mentioned in this forum, enabled/disabled all settings in BIOS, had to reset with the button in the bottom with a paper clip, tried to deactivate internal battery. By a chance of 1 in 4 I could get into the BIOS or select a boot media.  Lenovo hardware test says, that everything is fine. Have been many times, close to a brick, since it hangs directly after pressing the power button. By chance could boot, made a backup. HDMI is also not working. Does not recognize any thunderbolt devices. Flashed old BIOS version, no difference.  What makes a difference: completely disabeling thunderbolt in bios. Than BIOS/booting works like a charm, b... For me it sounds like the Thunderbolt Chip or Firmware is broken. Similar to the more popular bricking of Yogas, P51, before. I maybe could flash it manually like discribed here, but I guess, this is against warranty regulations: https://posts.nadim.computer/2018/10/26/repairing-a-thinkpad.html

Hi, When I unplug the zDock Thunderbolt 3 cable from my laptop, it powers the dock off immediately and disconnects everything USB connected to it. Is this intended functionality? My others docks never lost power when I disconnected the laptop from the dock. When I plug the cable back in, everything lights up and powers on the dock like it should. I did read somewhere on the HP support site that this dock does not work pre-OS - is this what I am experiencing or does that mean something else? I'm really astonished that a dock that has AC power running to it MUST be connected to a laptop to work. Thanks,Glen

I have a Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16 - 240W docking station for the XPS 15 9560. It comes with a 0.5m USB Type-C Thunderbolt cable. Is there a longer cable, such as a 1m cable available for the TB16?
The TB16 was shipped from Dell with an instruction booklet entitled "Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) Dock Cable Installation Guide." The book has instructions on how to remove the shipped cable and replace it with some cable that is received as a separate shipment. Does anyone know the purpose for those instructions?
I'd like to suggest that the above questions would be a nice addition to the TB16 FAQ... adding some info on cable length, cable length restrictions, future plans for differing cable lengths, etc., might help users such as myself. I see others out there which have concerns about short cable length so that's why I think the answer to the above would make good TB16 support KB articles or FAQ entries.
Thank you!

A:Dell Thunderbolt Dock TB16 Maximum Cable Length

The included instruction guide is just in case you need to remove the cable for replacement.
My cable is around .4 meters or 16 inches.  I do not know of other length cables are available.

(For those of you who have followed my previous threads, I've now ordered a T580 with 4k display). I'm looking for a T3 dock which can do the following on a T580. It would allow me to use just one cable to dock/undock it: 1) Attach a screen with a 2560x1440 resolution with 60Hz (digital connection)2) Attach a screen with a 1920x1200 resolution with 60Hz (digital or VGA connection)3) Full Ethernet port4) Charge the laptop (originally, it comes with a 45W power adaptor)5) Have at least 1 classic USB 3.0 port Unfortunately my budget is limited so that I can't go for the original Lenovo one. If there's a dock which can all the above except for attaching two screens, then this would be ok as well, for the time being (assuming I can run one screen via the dock, and the other screen directly from the HDMI of the T580). Then it would just be 2 cables for docking/undocking...

Hi all Recently got a Lenovo X1 Carbon (gen 6) and today got a Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock, part number 40AC0135AU . I have two 1080p monitors plugged into the dock, however, when the laptop is plugged in via the single TB3 cable, the laptop's fans constantly spin-up loudly for about 10 seconds, then turn off. It repeats this constantly. I have run all Windows Updates (on 1903), Lenovo Vantage updates, and updated all firmware and drivers (that I know of), but it's still doing it. Has anyone got any experience with this, as I can't focus on work with the fans constantly interrupting I don't want to send the laptop and dock back, but it's not suiting my requirements as is. Appreciate any assistance!

We are currently using Lenovo T480 laptops with ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Docks (Model 40AC0135US) in our office and frequently encounter the following issues: ? When a user connects their T480 to the dock, their monitors do not display any video? When a user connects their T480 to their dock, their monitors will display video, but USB peripherals (keyboard, mouse) do not work? When disconnecting from a dock, the charging light on the T480 stays lit and Windows shows the laptop is still connected to power and charging? External displays flicker intermittently When a user experience issues with their dock, the only way to get things working again is to shut down the computer, disable the internal battery in the BIOS, and then plug the T480 into the dock and turn it on. However, the issue eventually returns and we have to repeat the steps again. We have also tried the following steps, but continue to see issues:? Run Lenovo System Update and install all driver, bios, and dock firmware updates? Replaced Thunderbolt cable? Change the Thunderbolt Security Level in bios to No Security and Uninstall Thunderbolt Software Most of our laptops are running Windows 10 1709. Has anyone else experienced these issues and know of a good solution?

Hello, My company recently purchased a dual 4k setup for a work station. The setup is the following:2 ThinkVision P27 monitorsLenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 DockT570 (Type: 20HA) I setup the monitors and docking station yesterday and was able to power the displays using a X1 Carbon 5th gen (i5 model type: 20HQ) thru USB-C without issue. I have a user testing out the desk now with a T570. I'm able to get one monitor to funtion at 4K and the other is running at 1080p. If you check display settings I'm unable to increase the resolution to 4K. I've updated all drivers on the T570 including the display driver and thunderbolt docking station driver this morning and the system still fails to power dual 4K. I brought back the X1 I used previously and it powers the screens normally. I checked the specs of the T570 and its identical to the X1 as far as processor is concerned and the model page claims the USB-C port on the T570 can power dual 4K. What else can I try?

I recently received a ThinkPad T480s for my work PC and a Thunderbolt 3 Dock. I'm loving the laptop, but the dock is having some troubles. I'm worried either the dock is bad or worse, the laptop's Thunderbolt hardware is bad. The dock will cut out and appear to crash on certain occasions. I'm still trying to experiment with the triggers. I'm not 100% sure, but it appears that while I'm using it everything works fine - so long as I keep the laptop awake. It's when the ThinkPad goes to sleep or I leave my desk for a long enough time that the screens will have appeared to drop out. Or after the laptop has gone to sleep and I wake it up, then a few minutes later the dock crashes. For the most part the issue resolves itself once the dock power cycles and the displays come back up, but the last time this happened the screen was frozen and I had to do a hard shutdown of the laptop by holding the power button. My dock is pretty heavily loaded. It has the following peripherals attached: 2 DVI monitors with DVI to DisplayPort converterr connected to the dock1 VGA monitorEthernet connectionKeyboard USBMouse USBAudio OutAll monitors plus the docking powersupply are connected to the same powerstrip. The closest post resembling my issue is this one: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Thunderbolt-3-Dock-crashes-and-emits-c... But it doesn't appear to have been fully solved. I've updated the ThinkPad's Thunderbolt drivers and firm... Hi guys, This morning System Update ran and installed a bunch of the newest March 2019 updates. The big one was the Intel Management Engine. After rebooting, when my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is plugged into my Lenovo P52 it freezes on the POST screen with the Lenovo logo. If i unplug the dock it boots fine, plug the dock in after the OS is booted, things work fine. Its just during the POST during secure boot. I tried reflashing the Thunderbolt firmware to the 11/2018 to no avail, reflashed the dock with version 3.x of the firmware (latest) no difference, downgraded the firmware on the dock, changed the boot support methods for thunderbolt, so on and so forth.  Its strange it doesn't get past the logo screen it just sits. Is there another version of the Thunderbolt firmware i should be using besides the November 2018? I really would not like to peel back all the different updates that it updatedAnybody got any ideas? Is there a way to find what the cause is? Honestly i can unplug the dock when i reboot and plug it back in within a second after the POST screen and things work as normal. Its just a pain.

Hello everyone, I recently bought a Thinkpad X1 Extreme and I am now locking for a suitable Thunderbolt 3 dock. Although I've read a lot of posts about various docks I am still a little consfused about which one to choose. It seems like the following ones would all work with the X1 Extreme:1. Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W:https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...2. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (170W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...3. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (230W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/top-tech/Thunderbolt-WS-230W-dock-US/p/40AN023... Please correct me if I am wrong but to me it seems as if the only difference between these docks is that the workstation ones come with two AC adapters each and a special Thunderbolt/Power cable to avoid using two different cables. Or are there any other technical differences? So if I am okay with a two cable solution couldn't I just use the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W and connect it via Thunderbolt while at the same time use my 135W AC adapter to charge the laptop? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,
I myself own an XPS 15 9550 and noticed that I was not getting the full Thunderbolt 3 speedover it's Thunderbolt 3 port. I expected speeds around 2700MB/s, because of the overhead withthe theoretical gross speed of 3870MB/s, but I only ever got 1400MB/s out of it.
I did some digging and found out that none of the XPS notebooks with Thunderbolt 3 are evenable to achieve the full TB3 speeds, because they are only connected with two PCI Express lanes (x2.3).You can read more about this on the following links:Dell Subreddit PostChipset Digging on Forum

Thunderbolt 3 and the promised speeds were the MAIN REASON I even bought this notebook.I feel very cheated here.
