Internet Explorer doesn't function

Q: Internet Explorer doesn't function

I have Windows 7 and mostly use interest explorer but since I'm having trouble updating the java for my computer and especially for the x64 side of things I thought I'd try my internet explorer. I go to open it and it does nothing but sit there.
Any reason for this would help me.

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer doesn't function

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

To get your IE working again run inetcpl.cpl and go to advanced and click the reset and reset everything.

I'm using IE v5.5, Windows 95 and my search function seems to have been taken over by a search engine I'd never seen before. Instead of searching using the Search Assistant and previewing results from all selected search engines in the side preview pane; I just get results from one site (ixquick).

Can anyone help me get rid of ixquick and return to the regular function?

Dear Sirs,

My name is Clifford Griffin. I just happened on this site by accident.
I sure hope you can help me.

My operating system is Windows XP SP2.

I am currently running IE version 7. But you should know that I will
experience the Identical problem while running IE v6.0.2800... or IE

Since my IE does not work I am using Firefox to communicate with

Most of the time when I try to access the browser I get a blank
window with the following error pop-up.

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Included in that message is a statement that says: "To see what data
this error report contains click here." Upon clicking here I see
the following error signature:

"AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16441 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2945 Offset: 00012a5b"

There is also an extremely lengthy and detailed report entitled "Error
Report Contents" included, but it will not allow me to copy it.

Sometimes when I bring up the browser a window will appear just
as it should. But when I try to follow any link I get the same scenario
as explained above.

Can you help me?

Please let me know what further information you need.

Kindest Regards,

Clifford Griffin

A:Any version of Internet Explorer I try will not function.

Hi Clifford, welcome to TSF...

how long has the problem been present and have you tried a system restore to a date when all was well? Can you think of any downloads or any websites which were visited which may have triggered the problem?

Also, there is a chance of a malware infection so the following link may be helpful:

Finally, do you have a Windows XP installation disc?

Hello everyone!
Last night I installed Bitcomet (latest version). Well I'm done using it and I uninstalled it via programs and features. Then I rebooted. Now when I find a file on Internet explorer 7 (any kind of file really) that I want to save or open, nothing happens.

If I click on a file to download the usual Windows Prompt opens and asks me to Save/Open/Cancel and if I click Open or Save, nothing happens. This use to work fine before I installed BitComet.

I figured out the problem. When you install bit comment it ties itself to I.E. browser extension during the install. So it kinda becomes the download manager for I.E. So I need to figure out how to set this back to default since I uninstalled Bitcomet.
I set programs to default. I looked in file extensions and that looks normal. Crap this sucks!
Any ideas?

A:Internet Explorer Save/Open Function

You could try opening Internet Options in Control Panel. Click on the Programs tab and select Manage Add-Ons. It is possible that removing BitComet did not remove the reference within Internet Explorer.
Other than that may be worth checking your File Associations and make sure BitComet is not set as the default application for opening specific file extensions.

First you can make sure your system is free of spyware/malware.
Follow these instructions please.

Scan your pc with one of these free online scanners:
Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall. Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean.

Download / Install / Update / and Run:
Adaware SE check for any updates before running it.
Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE
To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection.

Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

After those Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

There is a problem in which Flash Player stops once during the operation of the business portal currently operating based on Flash Player, so please contact us.

As a result of the verification, it is confirmed that it is not related to Adobe's Flash Player and is related to the function of Shockwave Flash Object installed in Windows 10 Internet Explorer 11.

Therefore, I would like to know whether it is possible to delete and reinstall the Shockwave Flash Object function.
And I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade or downgrade only the version of the Shockwave Flash Object (or any other related function) while leaving the version of Internet Explorer.

Thank you.

I've never seen anything like this. Okay, here's the system rundown --- Running win 7 pro sp1 64 bit on a Dell xps 8000. Replaced hard drive one month ago, and I've used Seagate's diagnostic tool to check out hard drive, which didn't find any errors with the hard drive.

So, here's problem 1:
Computer was running great up until four days ago. It wouldn't wake up out of sleep properly. It would freeze. I would have to reboot to wake it up. It won't even let me LOG OFF correctly because when I go to log back on, I don't get the prompt to choose the user or enter my password. When I reboot --- that I can only do by shutting on and off the power, it's fine. The computer starts up fine in SAFE MODE, so I'm not detecting any issues there.

Problem 2:
Internet explorer 10 (got it with one of the updates two weeks ago) simply would HANG and not open. Even with I would click it once and open task manager to see what was happening, it showed multiple instances of explorer open. So, what I did was turn OFF Explorer 10 in the "turn windows features on or off" section. But when I when to turn them back on to see if it would reset, I not only lost the default windows icons from the start bar, Explorer refused to initialize when I tried to start it from "Programs" or from clicking the explorer.exe icon in both Programs (64 bit) and Programs (x86).

To this point I've done the full scan disk, and also run SCAN NOW. I also have anti malware software ... Read more

Hiya unclejimmy,

Proceed as follows please:

Select -> Tools menu -> then "Options", then go to "Change Proxy Settings", then "LAN Settings" , then take out the check mark for "Use a proxy server for your LAN" if set, unless you set this up yourself.

Launch Safari
Go to general settings menu

I have Windows xp Professional 64 on my computer at work. When I deleted browsing history my "Internet Explorer 7 32 bit" stopped working but the IE 64 bit still worked. I updated to IE8 but the problem stays.

The strange thing is that the Intranet works normally on the 32 bit version as well as the company homepage. Are there any filters working only for 32 bit IE version? Is that server related. Is there any way to make the 32 bit version work again? I tried resetting all settings but without any success. I am one of the few using 64 bit Windows version at the company but IE7 32 bit worked normally before?

What to do?

A:Internet Explorer 32 doesn't work but 64 does

Why are you using the 32bit version of IE on a 64 bit version of Windows, when you also have the 64bit version of IE on that computer? Who do you need both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE?

So how did it stop working? It wouldn't start? It wouldn't load pages? If it wouldn't load pages, what was the error message? "Connection Timed out"? "Error Connecting to Network"?
If im not wrong, IE should have diagnostic tools in their browser, to search for what's wrong with the connection. Find and try that =)

Good Luck!

I recently installed IE 8 on my computer (I have XP as my OS). Now, about half the time when I launch the browser it doesn't work. It will not load the homepage (the circle next to the word "connecting" spins constantly). If I type another address, it won't load that either. If I close the window and relaunch IE it often (but not always) works.

How can I fix this?

A:Internet Explorer 8 doesn't always work

Go to Tools/Compatibility View. If that still doesn't work, then try going to Tools/Manage Add Ons and try disabling some of the ad ons. Also try going to Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History and delete Temp files. If that still fails, go to Advanced tab/Reset IE Settings/Reset. If all fails go to Add Remove Programs and uninstall IE8 and it will roll it back to IE7,.

Well, those are signs of an infection. But I don't fully understand:I've run my virus scan, spy bot s&d, and adaware. I'm using AVAST as my virus tool. And what were the results of these scans?A side note Firefox browser does work (that's how I'm doing this post). How did you make this post? Using Firefox?Boot into safe mode by hitting F8 key at startup and choose 'safe mode'. Run your scans in safe mode and see if they find anything. You might also try "safe mode w/networking' if you are using high speed internet. This should allow you to surf the web. See if IE works in this mode.

Do you have Firefox? If so, are you having problems with it?If not, do you have access to a computer you can download it to, then burn to disk, and install on your computer. If you can get Firefox installed and working, download, update, and then run these free security programs:a? freeewido security suite - Windows 2000 and XP, only.Ad-AwareSpybot S&DPlease read this tutorial on Spybot S&D before using it. Spybot can do SERIOUS damage, if not used properly. When installing ewido security suite, under Additional Options uncheck:Install background guardInstall scan via context menuIf you can't get them downloaded, using Firefox, try to find another computer to download them to, and burn them to a disk, for transfer to your computer. If this gets IE working again, run these online virus scanners:http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/http://housecall.trendmicro.com/and this trojan scanner:TrojanScanLet us know if that helps.

hi friends,

let me first explain you what is the whole situation.
1. My laptop got hacked with rb32. Somehow i got rid of that problem but in process my "internet explorer" and "search for files and folders" option is not working.
2. some one told me to run sfc/scannow command to check system files. and doing so i came to know that some files were missing.
3. To get help in this topic i posted a thread in some online forum about 2 to 3 weeks back.
4. As per the valuable suggestions from my friends, i followed the steps to "WINDOWS IN PLACE UPGRADE".
5. After succesfully completion of in place upgrade i executed sfc command again and no missing files were found this time.
but my problem of internet explorer and search files and folders option was still there.

I ordered new internet explorer 6 sp1 CD from microsoft.
I uninstalled damaged internet explorer 6 from the system. I also removed it from add or remove window component. just to remove completely from my desk top.
I take care of modifying registry key from 1 to 0 so that i can install new explorer from new CD.
( becoz if you do not modify registry key then it gives out an error saying "system already detected new version of explorer on system so cannot continue installtion)

Even after all these steps when i start fresh installtion what happens is very funny !!

System asks to accept the agreement which is normal in any installtion, and then when it starts installing window components... Read more

I am using IE 8 on my laptop and IE 9 on my desktop. I have been having a lot of trouble with IE on both computers loading properly. I have attached screenshots of what I see when I try to load websites. The internet is also loading soooo slow....almost like I have dialup. :( I scanned for viruses with MBAM and it found nothing. I tried restarting my dsl modem, but that did not help either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried to upload screenshots of what I see when my browser loads, but I keep getting this message:
This PNG image has the incorrect file extension.
Desktop: Vista SP2, IE9
Laptop: XP, IE8

Whenever I try to open in Internet Explorer on my desktop PC, I get the Unable to Display Page, but:
-- Firefox and other browsers works fine.
-- IE works fine on my other computers.

So, I have a good connection, my other computers and laptops work fine with IE, and all the other browsers work fine.

I've deleted temporary internet files, etc., ran Network Diagnostics and the Diagnostic Log says: IP Layer Diagnostic Corrupted IP routing table.

But wouldn't a Corrupted IP routing table affect ALL browsers?

How do I fix this?
Thank you.

Sorry, I posted in the wrong section.
Whenever I try navigating to a website, IE doesn't display the page. The homepage fails to load as well. It says :

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address. "

However, I am connected to the internet, as Firefox and Opera work fine. I've no firewall either. One other thing, when the browser first opens and tries loading the homepage, on the bottom left corner of the browser, it says "Connecting to site".

Also, MSN Messenger fails to log in, displaying errors on "Host" and "Key Ports" when troubleshooting. Even when I tried repairing, the same errors appear. Thanks for the help.

I'm using Windows XP SP2

(I've attached my HijackThis log file)

A "security" icon appeared in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. It is a red shield that flashes to a blue question mark. I cannot find it anywhere in my control panel or file search and cannot figure out how to remove it. When I click on it it takes me to a website titled Virtrigger that tells me it can solve all my security problems.

I even scan my computer using McAfee, still didn't fix the problem.

Now everytime I go to Internet Explorer it doesn't work at all!!!

Please help!!!

I seem to have a problem ever since I restored my pc for a couple of hours earlier for an error I made instaling a plugin for the browser. The problem is that the browser wont open windows of links when I open them the new window will just freeze. I always have to stop the new window and then refresh it to acces the link but this represents a problem opening windows that don't have stop or refresh(the little windows). I've tried a lot of things, so far I havent been able to uninstall the browser in order to re install it. I hope someone can help me.

A:Internet Explorer 6.0 doesn't open windows

Hi, Have you tried through Add/remove Programs...find Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and Internet Tools" in the list, highlight that, and click REMOVE.....that will usually bring up the 3 options to Repair, Use Previous version, etc....try Repair, if it tells you to reinstall IE, try the same steps but use the "Previous" button this time, then you will have to reinstall it. The IE6.0setup.exe file may still be in the IE folder....the small 499kb file that then connects you to the download site....

Forgive me, I know this is supposed to be very elementary... but every time I start up a web page, the window does not open up where I want it to. I went into folder options and thought my settings were correct in that "Remember Previous Folder Windows at Log On" and "Remember Each Folder's View Settings" are both checked.

Does it kick in after a reboot or re-logon? Do I have to do something else?
