Wireless keyboard no longer works after update

Q: Wireless keyboard no longer works after update

After the last Windows update, my Microsoft Sculpt wireless keyboard no longer works, although the wireless mouse and the separate numeric keypad both work fine - they all use the same USB dongle. I have replaced the batteries and this is not the issue.I have run the HP troubleshooter and it says that everything is working.Any tips gratefully received. Thanks Mark

Preferred Solution: Wireless keyboard no longer works after update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

this morning my laptop was working fine but now after a windows update the touch pad and keyboard don't work. i have already reset took out battery and tried again. i also did a system restore to 2 previous dates. after that didn't work i went into the BIOS screen at start up and reset the defaults which showed i had keyboard usage just not when using the OS. These all haven't worked so i went into device manager and scanned for updates to the drivers with no success. idk what else i should try before getting it professionally looked at. any advice is welcome just read what ive already tried, thank you

A:no longer works the keyboard of my notebook

Hello Pinaxx. So, from time to time your notebook's built in keyboard stops functioning? Is this correct?Again, just to make sure I am on the same page, what is listed under "Human Interface Devices" and "Keyboards" in your Device Manager? If it is not listed, do you have a section labeled "Other Devices?"Before going further I'd like to perform a hard reset of the notebook. This forces the computer to re-initialize the hardware and can fix a wide variety of issues. Try the following.Shut down the notebook.Remove battery and AC power.Press and hold power button for 20-30 seconds.Replace battery and AC power.Boot notebook and verify functionality of keyboard.Post the result.I will keep an eye out for your reply and continue working with you. I hope you have a great day!

I'm using an HP dc5800 microtower. I shut it down one day by pulling the cord (I know, stupid), and the next day I got a 162: System Options Not Set message. At the bottom of the message there was a button Saying Press F1 to Save Changes (paraphrasing here). I pressed F1, but nothing happened. My keyboard just doesn't seem to work anymore with the machine (it did work before, in Windows 7). The keyboard is a Logitech K400r, a wireless keyboard with a USB dongle. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Something has recently changed and I can no longer wake up my Win7 Ultimate PC from Sleep state using mouse movement or "Sleep" button on multimedia keyboard. I have to push the power button on the PC itself. This worked fine up until a few days ago. I did not make any changes to the power settings. I checked and the settings appear to be what they always have been.

Suggestions are welcome!

I've got an IBM ThinkPad 600X and I was connected wirelessly to the internet at a WIFI location when I discovered that I couldn't send an email from my ISP's Webmail site. After a google search, I discovered that I needed to upgrade Internet Explorer 6.0 with SP1. So I began with Windows Update and chose the proper upgrade. In the middle of the download, Windows Update stopped and gave me an error message with something about proxy server settings. It wouldn't let me continue the upgrade and now I can't access the internet anywhere. Windows Update placed a "Resume Windows Update Installation" file on my desktop, but when I click on it, it fails to continue because it is unable to find sites to download the update due to proxy server settings. I've checked all my network settings and my wireless is working fine, but when I open IE, it gives me the usual "The page cannot be displayed" and nothing I've tried works. This computer has no other access to the Internet, but wireless (there's no NIC port), so I'm having to research with my desktop. Can anyone help? Please?

I've been using my u920t for almost 10 mont and i really like that i can still use the touchscreen when the keyboard ist out.

But a couple of days ago it stopped working. I don't remeber changing anything.

Windows now tells me the screen is not a touchscreen.
Once i put the screen down and go into tablet mode everything works fine.
Tablet PC setting in the control panel also disappear once the keyboard ist out..

I tried reinstalling the driver.
I also did a windows 8 refresh (no backup unfortunately)

Any ideas?

Thank you for your help.

A:Satellite U920T - when I slide out the keyboard touchscreen no longer works

> Tablet PC setting in the control panel also disappear once the keyboard ist out..
I assume this should be OK since the tablet PC settings should be available only if the notebook is used in ?tablet mode?

The point is that this notebook can be used in three different modes.
1) tablet mode -> the keyboard and touchpad are pulled in and only touchscreen can be used
2) laptop mode -> the keyboard and touchpad are pulled out
3) photography mode -> keyboard is pulled in but touchpad is pulled out and can be used as well as the touchscreen.

I?m not quite sure if the ?orientation lock button? (on the left side) would affect the touchscreen but fact is that using this button the automatic rotation of the screen orientation can be enabled or disabled.
If you are operating the computer in laptop or in photography mode, the screen orientation will always be in Landscape mode.

Please check also if the touch display has been calibrated properly
Go to control panel (win key + x control panel) -> Tablet PC settings

Here you will find the first tab called ?Display?
Click on ?Setup? button to start the setup where you could identify the touchscreen
In bottom area called ?display options? you could calibrate the touch display.

Hi, everyone, I just joined and would like some help, please. I didn't find a thread specific to my case (maybe there's one and I didn't see, though). I have a 6 year old Compaq Presario F730US running Vista Home Premium and it has been working fine all these years; yesterday, while online the blue light indicating wireless ON became amber suddenly and I can no longer connect except wired. The wireless adapter is not showing on Device Manager or anywhere else and HP Wireless Assistant won't open. Things I've already tried:
-Update/uninstall/reinstall driver
-Remove/reinstall hardware
-System Restore to at least a week prior
And some other tips from some tech sites around. Of course, nothing worked.
Thanks for any help.

Last week the wireless connection on my PC upstairs quit working. I have 2 PCs and 2 PS3s. One PC(my main one) and PS3 are downstairs in my "gaming room" with a wired connection to my router(Linksys WRT54GL). My other PC(connected with a linksys ethernet bridge in bedroom, used just for email really) and other PS3(in living room) had wireless connections.
Everything was perfectly fine for years, then last week the PC in my bedroom no longer would connect. At first I thought that the bridge went out due to it's age and I bought a usb wireless adaptor. That did not solve the problem. After investigating further with my limited knowledge I saw that the IP address assigned wasn't valid for internet use( or something to that effect). I manually changed to IP to one that would be in range( and it did not help.
The lights on the bridge seem correct(power, lan and wlan). I took the PC downstairs and it is able to connect with a wired connection. When I run ipconfig with a wired connection everything looks fine, but when I try with the bridge or adapter the IP is invalid. I tried to ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew but I get an error when trying to renew. I even ran a program called "Winsockxpfix" and it did not solve the problem either. I disabled the firewall and it did not solve the issue. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have my laptop with Win 8.1 set to automatically download updates and to notify me when any are available so I can see what they are before installing them. When I realized that my almost-daily Windows Defender definition updates were not showing up, I investigated and found no check for updates had occurred since August 4th. Trying a manual check, I got an error message with a code of 80244019. Nothing I found in Windows Help or on the web has been useful.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Other than installing updates, I haven't made any changes whatsoever to the laptop in months.

I just noticed today that My windows update won't run anymore. It's the red X image that lots of people are describing and when I try to turn it on it says it can't turn on because it's not running. Windows update is not in my services at all, nor is BITS. I've tried getting in command prompt and as far as it tells me, Bits is an invalid service name. wuauserv is also an invalid service name. Its like all of the sudden Windows update and the programs people recommend messing with to fix it are all gone. Windows defender is also not present on my computer anymore. I don't know why. I tried downloading it and it is telling me I already have it. I can see it in my search box but when I click on it to turn it on it says "the specified service does not exist as an installed service."

I am in the process of getting rid of a trojan dropper so I wonder if these problems could be related. I have been able to update just fine in the past.

Windows Update no longer works from Start Menu or manually from Microsoft's website. From the start menu, when selecting Windows Update, it opens IE window but IE reports that "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and has the "Diaognose Connection Problems" box. Typing the url to Mircosoft.com connects fine. Once on the Windows Update page it starts Checking to see if the computer has the latest version and then stops and reoports "X The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view."

Connecting to internet using the Desktop IE icon works and navigates to other sites ok too but often getting a Windows box stating "Generic Host Process for Win 32 Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. Do you want to report this to Microsoft..etc." I have selected to report it many times and then IE will usually shut down. Typing a search phrase in the IE search box returns Google results to the page but when selecting any of the search results it ends in a redirect to some unrelated page. This does not happen if you type the url for Google in the address box and then do the search. All of these things happening seems to be some kind of virus infection that keeps... Read more

I'm not an expert, but i might be able to offer some help. Do you mean: You now have to use a password to log into Windows instead of a pin? Or Do you mean: You now have to use a password to even start the computer loading Windows? I'll assume you mean the former and that should be easy to remediate:That option you can set in the Windows 10 settings panel. You just open that from the Start-menu -> Open accounts -> Login options -> Add pincode.

In the process of renovating a VERY old Dell Inspiron 2650 to give to disadvantaged kids, I tried using the USB receiver in that laptop. Didn't work, so I used a wired mouse instead. The receiver had been plugged into my Win 7 Toshiba laptop, but when I re-inserted the receiver back into that laptop, the mouse doesn't work. I've tried removing both the receiver and the battery in the mouse, per some advice I read on the Web, but that did nothing. Have also tried downloading the driver. Regardless, when I plug the receiver into a USB port on the laptop, it "beeps" indicating that it recognizes the receiver. . . but it still doesn't work.

If I plug the receiver into my Win 7 desktop, the mouse works.

I just noticed that this hotkey combination has ceased working .  I don't use it that often, so I'm not sure how long this has been the case.  Other Fn/hotkeys are still functioning properly.  My W530 is running Windows 7 SP1 64bit, and both the Lenovo and the Windows Updates are current. I did search out the following post:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-13-E-and/Hotkey-f9-wireless-radio-control-don-t-wo...but I'm not sure it applies to my case.  In particular, I don't want to re-install the "Lenovo Communications Utility" because I use the Windows function for connecting to Wi-Fi, and I recall that one of the related Lenovo overlays screwed that up to my detriment in the past.  (Generally I stay away from most of the Lenovo bloatware, but some, like the Fn/F5 feature, is very useful.) -- JCW2

My Brother MFC 640CW printer used to work when I logged into Windows XP but now it only works when I log into Linux, how can I make it work again in Windows?

I am convinced the problem is with the printer configuration in Windows but I cannot work it out. I had some issues installing my updates initially, so I did them in small chunks in order to prevent my computer from freezing up. Finally I was ready to install service pack 1, but the installation continued to fail. After trying many things, Windows thinks that I have never installed any updates at all, and can't search for new ones. When I try, this is the error I receive:

"An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.

Error(s) found:
Code 8007370B Windows update encountered an unknown error."

It also says:

Most recent check for updates: Never
Updates were installed: Never

Which is of course not true. I'd like to try uninstalling these updates so I can try again, but I can't do that if it thinks they aren't there.

I have tried using the Update Readiness tool, which claims to be successful, but changes nothing.

I have run the update troubleshooter which claims to fix two issues, but changes nothing.

I have tried to run sfc /scannow as suggested by many people, but I receive this error:
"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

I have tried stopping the Windows Update service, deleting the Software Distribution folder, and restarting the service, but it changes nothing.

I'm at my wit's end; this is a company computer and I really need to get it working again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I apologise in advance if i irritate you but i litterally have no clue what is what when it comes to laptops.

Ive had my Acer Aspire 5920 for a good few years now, it ran perfectly fine on vista for a good 3 years, not a hitch or care in the system. Then out of no where it goes missing for a week, and my mums ex boyfriend had upgraded it to 'windows 7 extreme edition' and none of the buttons of the sides worked, including the most important one- the wireless.

now i understand that a driver synaptics or something fixed the others, and it did. but still the wireless and all the buttons to the left refuse to work.

i cant ask the ex for help because he left on very bad terms and i have none of my original discs left. My friend has now got me running windows 7 professional 32 bit and i have the glowy buttons working, but not the wireless.

the reason i need wireless is soon im going to uni where i cant plug it into the wall to get the internet-that and the socket for the internet cable has started to melt and warped out of shape.

i cant seem to find ANY advice on this matter, that or i just simply dont understand the jargon. I dont care if it means going back to vista as that was fine to work with anyway - but how would i go about doing that if so?

Sorry to be a pain in the dariair.

I have been living with this issue for a couple of months and wish to now resolve issue with your help.

3) Properties for both desktop and printer show the same internet address;

Yesterday, I had a Windows 8.1 update and today the start button has no right-click functionality. Also, all of the desktop shortcuts that were specific to my user account became hidden. I set the folders to show hidden and now they are back, but semi-transparent. What has happened here?

I really don't want to do a reinstall, because I only did that a month or so ago and had a right game installing all of the applications I use. I tried to create another user account, but it won't let me use the same email address...bit of a problem as that email address is linked to my MS Office 2013 purchase and updates.

Can someone please advise on the best course of action? I know, I know...switch to a Mac. Trouble is, I need some Windows-only products and hate using parallels.

I'm running W7 SP1 on a Dell Studio XPS. A bit over a month ago my HD went belly up and I ended up doing a System Restore to a new drive. All appeared to go well and have been using the system with no apparent problem. A couple days ago, it dawned on me that I hadn't seen ant recent Windows Updates. When I checked I found that I was receiving "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running...."

I have tried various things and did get it the point where Windows update history showed NEVER and last update showed NEVER rather than "the service not running" message, but that has again reverted to the "service not running" state.

I downloaded SURT and attempted to run it, but it errors out with: Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247

I've attached screen shot, CBS log and Farbar Scan. If I've missed something, please let me know.

A:Windows Update no longer works after a System Restore to a new HD

run services.msc
scroll to "windows update"
startup type="automatic delayed"?

Try to start it manually there. What error?
Maybe service Windows Update is normal running.... so a fake error message. I found this a long time ago and helped a few people with it

I too kept getting the same error code 0xc8000247, although on Windows Vista 32 bit.
Any microsoft download, did not work. Defender updates, Windows updates, Internet Explorer, Windows
Media Player and more.
These problems all seem to coincide with the time I upgraded my hard drive from a 160gb to a 500gb.
I used Acronis True Image to clone my original HDD and I appeared to have no issues. However after a while I notice I hadn't got any updates for defender. When investigating, I noticed the automatic updates I'd set up weren't working either.
After weeks and weeks of trawling forum after forum, trying different downloads, registry fixes, and loads of other stuff I eventually came across this
It updates the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (IRRT).
It does specify in the link that it is Western Digital drives, so not sure if this is the link for you, but I am sure that the
Intel Driver is the cause of your problem.

Hope it helps.

I recently purchased a Genius USB plug-in mouse, which worked perfectly straight off the bat. However, after installing the most recent Dell update, it no longer works - not even showing up on the list of connected devices. I have tried updating the drivers on HID-compliant mouse and PS/2 compatible mouse on the devices list, to be told they are already up to date.
Is there a fix for this? The box specifically mentions "There's no software to install" - I don't know if that includes drivers or not. My USB connected headset is still working fine, and that uses drivers, so I don't know what could be the issue.
I have tried using different USB ports, with no effect.

My computer's audio has been spotty for a few weeks- random popping noises and such- but after a recent system update, it's become practically unusable. I encountered the popping noises a few weeks ago and updated the RealTek Audio Driver, and the problem seemed to be resolved. Today, a message came up telling me I needed to restart my computer to install necessary updates. I let the updates install, then picked up using the computer where I left off. But now the audio is worse than ever. It only works for about 1-5 minutes before regressing into a low growling buzz, then finally cutting off completely into silence. The only way to fix it is to restart the computer, and then it only takes a few minutes for the problem to begin again. Trying to raise or lower the volume results in more popping noises every time I press the button. I'm not sure if this is related, but the orange light on my mute button has also ceased to work.I know the problem isn't with my headphones, as I have tried several pairs, and they all work perfectly fine with my iPod. The external speakers are fine as well, so the issue must be with the headphone jack. The audio driver is updated to the most recent version, so I'm not sure of what else I can do. This is a serious issue that doesn't look like it's going to go away on its own. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Long list of items that have crept up on this laptop after using it for several months. . . . The touchscreen no longer works.   I have reinstalled drivers over and over again, deleted and let windows choose the driver, and have tried everything I can think of to get it working. Yet it no longer recognizes touch at all. Bamboo Ink styles works just fine, uninstalling the associated drivers did not change anything. It slowly started to work intermittently and then just quit all together. Keyboard keys just stop working  So far some seemingly random LOWERCASE letters stop working, if I hold shift I get an uppercase just fine, or if I hit capslock it will give me the uppercase of whatever letter is not working for that day, so the button itself is fine. This has happened on several different keys completely randomly for no apparent reason what so ever. The only way to fix the issue once it occurs is to stop what you are doing and restart the computer. . . Doing so might fix it for a week or an hour. In the middle of typing or clicking, or doing anything at all it decides to "sleep"    I can be in the middle of typing something, moving the mouse to click on something, or using the stylus to take notes and without warning it will enter sleep/hibernation mode. . .  I have updated the drivers to the latest that are available, I also updated the BIOS to the latest recommended to see if that might help solve some of the issues. MS Wireless Comfort Keyboard/mouse combination, Model 1.0A -1045 is malfunctioning in the operation of the keyboard. The mouse is working, so my thought is that the receiver is okay. The keyboard stopped working today. I replaced the batteries, reset the button on the bottom of the keyboard and the button on the receiver, ensuring the proper sequencing. Still no joy. Removed all of the screws on the bottom of the keyboard, carefully checked the membrane inside, ensuring cleanliness before re-installing. Still no joy. I visited the MS support website. Unable to locate my brand. Thinking that downloading a new driver might help, i checked my settings for device drivers in My Computer. All drivers seem to be okay according to My Computer>Devices>Keyboard. Searched a couple of other forums and found that others have experienced the same problem. I've misplaced the software that came with the set-up. MS support website no help in trying to find software for this particular model. Any ideas from you Win7 gurus? Many thanks in advance.

A:MS wireless keyboard not responding to keystrokes/wireless mouse works

Have you run Windows Updates and see if it offers a new driver.
The keyboard is very old. Just might be time for a new one. You could also go to Device Manager and select update driver for the keyboard.

I have 6 or 7 old keyboards. Also gave a few away. I have never wore one out. Just kept buying them looking for one I really liked.
Years later I found one I like.

Hello, I don't know where to begin. When I log on and my start programs run, I receive a couple different messages about something not being in the library. I would check right now before writing this, but I'm afraid my wireless connection would take too long to fix again. I've been having problems for the past week. Very irritating. Lots of time spent trying to unfold this disaster.1) I do have a hijack this log if someone would look at it. 2) Maybe two or three months ago, I updated Internet Explorer7 to IE8 and now it doesn't work at all. I'm stuck, forced to use Mozilla. 3) The wireless router IS in my house and it IS encrypted. YES, I DO have the password key... 4) For the past couple weeks, if I am in a program like MOBSTERS by MYSPACE my computer will freeze. It happens every time, SHORTLY after going into the MISSIONS tab. I have to do a hard restart or it'll stay frozen for the entire day.5) On my wireless connection... IF/When I click "repair".... It will work for maybe 15-30 seconds MAYBE!! and then it will restart my computer. 6) I can't afford to pay for help, but I do have a few rare coins I would happily exchange for some help here. I am new to this and don't understand how I will be contacted or how I will know if someone is trying to reach me. Call me if you wish. Or email. I switched to a wireless Linksys router from a crossover cable connection, and now file/printer sharing on my XP + Vista network isn't working. They can ping each other by ip address (not by name), and I've turned off firewalls, and the XP machine can see the Vista machine but not vice versa. Does anyone have any idea what I can try here? I have a wireless network set up between my desktop, my Suddenlink modem, a Netgear wireless router, and my laptop. Up until yesterday, it was working great to where I could use my laptop anywhere in the house. Now, for some reason or another, I am unable to connect to the internet on the laptop unless the wireless adapter is connected directly to the laptop. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I just want the connection to work again to where I can connect to the internet from my laptop from anywhere in my home. Can someone help, please?
