Hi, I'm having a problem with the internet. I'm running windows xp and I am connected to a NETGEAR router, but that doesn't matter much, because I tried connected right from my modem to my computer, bypassing my router, and it still disconnects, so it's not the router. Every hour my connection to the internet just shuts off and comes back on almost instantly, maybe 5 seconds. So lets say I get on my computer at 11:27 AM it will cut off at 12:27 PM, 1:27 PM, 2:27 PM, etc. But, if I come on my computer at 11:55 AM, then it will cut off at 12:55 PM, etc.

It comes back on right after. This isn't a problem when it comes to browsing the web and whatnot. It affects my gaming, streaming, and downloading greatly though. When I'm in an online game, I always disconnect at the hour.

Can anyone help me fix this problem? Or explain to me what the problem actually is?

I have tried going into my NIC and un-checking all the options in the power managment tab, still doesn't work. My lease expires 1 day from when it got it, not every hour.

i have a similar problem here too, the internet connection gets cut off from time to time. im with virgin media, using their latest cable modem. the modem connects to a wireless router D-Link DIR-615. then 3 computers connect to the network wirelessly. it's just very odd to see the browser cannot locate pages constantly...

I've had this problem for about a month now: my computer disconnects from the internet every hour. I am using wireless broadband...
When it disconnects, I cannot go on any web-pages, however, when I look at the wireless connection, it says that I'm still connected (status: connected).
The only way I can re-connect is by restarting my computer, which is really annoying when i'm in the middle of things.
One annomally is that I sometimes use Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner - which is a virus cleaning thing which i think runs via the internet, instead of being a downloaded program: the scan tends to take around 1.5 - 2 hours to complete, during which the internet seems to stay connected. However, once the scan is finished, the internet automatically disconnects...
Also, if I have my gmail account already open, it seems to be able to receive mail and I can read mail and send stuff quite a while after the ‘disconnect’ (meanwhile, I cant see other webpages). Eventually though, my gmail account also disconnects (maybe around 10-15 mins after I stop having access to other webpages). Don’t know if this means anything..
I share the connection with three other computers in my house, and none have this problem (pc's and macs).
Ive been trying to find clues about what it could be, I've read that it might have something to do with my IP renewing or might be a virus, either way im not very technically experienced, so dont know how ... Read more

hello, i have been dealing with this issue for almost a year now.

Every hour my internet has a brief "pause", it can be from 3 seconds to a whole minute, it happens every single hour, but not exactly, In example it could happen at 9:12 then at 10:08 then at 11:10 and so on.

its very annoying because it disconnects me from online games. I've called my ISP about 30 times, changed my modem twice, no solution.

I know its from the network and not my PC because i also play on consoles and it happens too.

HI im having a problem with the internet on my desktop. Im running windows xp and the desktop is connected to a router through LAN wiring. Every hour at the 31 min mark (exp: 1:31 , 2:31, 3:31,... etc) my connection to the internet just shuts off for approximately 15 seconds. It comes back on right after. This isn't a problem when it comes to browsing the web and whatnot. It affects my gaming, streaming, and downloading greatly though. When im in an online game, i always disconnect at that mark.

Can anyone help me fix this problem? Or explain to me what the problem actually is?

I have a dv6000 hp pavilion laptop runing on vista home premium. My internet has been disconnecting every single hour. Its a huge problem, especially when im downloading something or playing an online game. I have a silver Motorola modem 2210. I know its has absolutely nothing to due with my modem, because it doesnt disconnect on other laptops or my xbox. Im pretty sure that the problem is the lease obtained/expired. First--slightly off topic--the only phone in a household should not be via cable company unless the phone is only a luxury. I know that my cable company even advised my neighbor to not switch to them from a landline unless he had a cell phone.

Sounds like a problem somewhere between the place where her service branches off from the main coax cable and the modem. Maybe a loose connection; maybe a defective component; maybe a frayed cable that sometimes contacts something it shouldn't.

And those technicians didn't start working backward to find the source of the fault???

If the service is similar to mine outside the residence her cable connects to the company's cable and that junction should be grounded. Carefully check that connection for tightness and for absence of corrosion or rust. Clean it if necessary and protect it if that seems to be needed. Unless that connection is the source of the problem I think that it is up to the technicians to trace the problem back to the source.

I have a Linksys router that disconnects every 45min to 1hr & 15 min. Very annoying. Doesn't matter whether I'm using the computer or not. So I have to disconnect pwr. to the modem and router - wait a min. then connect pwr to modem and router and wait a min. and I'm back on line... what's going on...?? Without the router it never disconnects.
I have cable from Comcast an eMachine using XP home.

You may be able to solve the problem by setting the router back to the default configuration. Somebody may have changed the settings on it which cause it do act in that way. Somewhere in the router's configuration, they should be an option to restore factory settings or something similar. Try doing this. If you don't know how, contact the retailer or consult the user manual.
If you do this and the problem persists, the problem may be your service provider (ISP). They could have problems due to a lack of servers or too many users. Try contacting them to resolve the issue.

Hi all.

I'm new here so first off if I'm missing any info or you need anything more specific, just let me know.

About 6 days ago my computer started to crash (as in no shutdown sequence, just straight off) and reboot on the hour, every hour. So 11am, 12pm, 1pm on the dot.

I tried memtest to see if it was a memory issue and it ran for 3 hours with no errors. Safe mode is not effected so it seems to be specific to windows proper.

Here are the main details about the error:
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION 0x0000003b Caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe

There was a weird error message in task scheduler as well, which I have posted in the screenshots below.

I have also attached the logs as per forum instructions and a dump from bluescreenview although that may just be the same, I'm not sure.

That's all I can think of right now, but please fire away any and all suggestions and I'll add more info as I can

If it didn't shut down while running Memtest, but does in Windows - then it's a Windows problem.

After having bad sector problem in hdd, my battery backup is deceases. My lappy is just only 1 year old from toshiba.
Also an 'x' sign blink on my battery at taskbar showing consider for battery replacing.
but i don't think so that my battery is dying.

I am in desperate need of help here. I have HP 1000 notebook which was given to me in free laptop scheme by our Prime Minister. This laptop came with battery of over 4200mz i dnt exactly remember but through out the year 2013 and end of 2012, its battery timing was more then 3 hour, even 1 month ago. But from last couple of weeks it has reduced from 3 hour to 1 hour.

The laptop heats up now and it omits very heated air from side fans.Furthermore,the summer in Pakistan is at the peak. Normal temperature here is between 40 to 45C. I dont use laptop in Air Conditioned room so it heats up. Kindly tell if all laptops do the same or this laptop has some issue..
Kindly suggest any solution for batter. Is it the laptop or the battery has completed its life.

( one more thing. i removed battery for 2 days to put the laptop on ac because the battery on charge makes is too hot to use so i often take out the battery. But it never happened before....)

Okay, so this is really frustrating because I play online a lot and if I disconnect during the middle of a match, even if it's just ~20s, I get slated with the loss.

So there. Forgive my ignorance at most of the terms involved in networking, but I shall try to describe my circumstances as comprehensively as possible, and please just tell me what other information is needed/how to get it so I can help you guys get a clearer picture.

-I lose connection every hour or so; it seems like a fixed interval, although I'm not 100% sure. I can confirm however that I experience this nearly every hour.
-When I lose connection, the status bar still looks like this
-My connection: I have an H5201 modem set in bridged mode, connected to a Cisco Linksys E1200 router. Everything is wired.
-I've opened some ports to allow me to game online better, disabled UPnP, and aside from that left everything that didn't have to do with opening ports to game, or getting the router to work with the modem in bridged mode, to default.
-Also have a static IP address; I just followed portforwarding.com's procedure. http://portforward.com/networking/static-win7.htm

That's about it for now. I can get more relevant data, please just tell me how to get it. here is the problem.
I had one PC and one notebook using the same internet connection (Yahoo AT&T ADSL).
The PC is using a Siemens ADSL modem SpeedStream 4100 while the notebook is using wireless (Netgear WGR614 v5). The notebook has no problem with the connection. The problem is on the PC. It has to be restarted in like every 24 hours because of connection error (I knew that the connection is error because it showed that in my Mozilla Firefox weather plugin). I had a virus a while ago and had it removed using help from this forum and since then the internet connection has to be restarted every 24 hours. Can anyone assist me in solving this problem?

Alright so I will be playing a game (World of Warcraft) and be watching a stream on Google Chrome and then suddenly both systems will like disconnect. The only way to fix this problem will be to restart the computer. Now this problem usually occurs every 30 mins but I don't know if always at the same time. I know the problem isn't a virus because we went to Geek Squad and they did a 30 minute test to clear up all viruses and the problem still occured. This actaully recently started happening, its not like the computer has always been like this. I am using Windows 8.1 and a Microsoft Tech Support guy said it might be a problem I had upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 but its not like right when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 this started happening. I am also having troubles with Skype. I type in my information and click login and the login circle just infinitely goes in a loop and never logs in. If you could help me with either of these problems (or both) please comment below. I really want this to be fixed because it is annoying having to restart my laptop every 30 minutes while I'm in the middle of something. Thanks in advance!

Right now i'm on a macbook pro, which is connected to wifi soo i'd have to go on the computer upstairs to run logs and such.... anyways... I've had this problem for a few years now and it's just getting so annoying... for I play a lot of online video games and cannot play longer than an hour or two without getting disconnected. I play on xbox one, i play pc/mac games such as diablo 3, my xbox 360 was terribly effected by the internet being down every few hours... but the xbox one just lags then reconnects sometimes continuing the game.

What i've tried:

Opening DMZ, manually port forwarding, called ISP multiple times.... replaced modem, did nothing... I bought a new router about right when this started happening and that did not help at all. I've tried turning off internet on all of my devices besides one and running it for a while but the internet still dropped. The ISP has come and replaced many wires in and around the house that were getting old... my ISP is Charter. and yes i've tried reseting my router to factory defaults, upgrading firmware, i've reset my router about a million times over the last few years... nothing.

To reconfirm, the internet only goes out for a second or two, and most of my devices use wifi, however devices/computers directly connected the the router/modem still lose connection at the same time.

Hey everyone,
I have a Lenovo desktop computer...the internet is pretty zippy, but if I step away from the computer for an hour or more, when I return, the internet goes super slow (yahoo takes minutes to load) and some pages get a "page cannot be displayed" error message. Other computers on my network do not have this problem, and if I restart all goes back to normal...any ideas to the cause? Thanks!!

A couple of ideas - if you haven't got enough RAM (Less than 512 MB is too low), running a lot of programs will cause your internet browser to do this.

This could also be a malware problem, what you need to find out is if there is limited connectivity OR if something is eating up your bandwidth.

I would suggest you use "firefox" instead of IE if you aren't already

If this is a recent problem, try system restore (start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore) select a point before it started happening

This can also be caused by antivirus/firewall software not functioning properly.

I can open IE6 and search with one browser open fine but as soon as i open another it starts to lag and then 30 min to an hour IE6 freezes and i have to close out and restart Can someone please help because this is really getting annoying.I have emptied temp folder and temp internet files and ran norton for viruses,done trend micro online scan and i even had spybot and I thought it was spybot that caused it cause when i downloaded it that is when it all started. 2 or 3 days ago IE started opening itself about every hour and I would get a dll error and norton would delete it.  Starting today it opens the same but no longer do I get the error message and norton does not see it.
I was working with someone with norton I think but he had to go and suggested this site. Downloaded (First 64) and ran it and got 2 files - Addition.txt and First.txt.

Recently had many issues with my computer and ended up reinstalling windows. Once i got everything "clean" i ran a malware antibytes scan and cleaned the 30+ files that were left. The computer is running 85% now. The only issues i seem to be having is internet explorer will lag at times for a minute and just freeze, i open task manager and i see the rundll32.exe file is near the top i close that and internet explorer works fine. Occasionally probably 3 times in the past week i'll get hit with a million pop-ups i do a group close and then close the rundll32 file and it goes away. Today i noticed that at exactly every hour my computer would beep, i opened task manager and watched what process's would use my cpu exactly on the hour when the beep happened. The two process i could see were rundll32.exe and winlogon. I'm sorry this is so long hopefully someone can help, below is my hijack log

Hello everyone,
I have been suffering with win 8 ever since i upgraded from win 7. I get bsods every hour almost.

Crashes about 1 hour into use, every time i boot up. Error on bsod critical_process_died. After this, the computer automatically reboots and goes into a blue screen again without ever booting up fully, with error code saying a device couldnt be found. does not specify which device. error code 0xc000000e.

i manually turn off and restart at this point, and system boots in fine. This happens EVERY single time.
System config:
Windows is installed on its own C drive which is a 64gig ssd drive. 500gig hdd also on board. Regular setup, no raid or anything fancy.

I have windows XP Professional, and the clock is running on the 24-hour plan, which I don't like. I thought it would be easy - just go to date and time on the control panel ... but no such luck. How do I switch over to the 24-hour format?

then it just stops and says "This page could not be displayed" everytime I do something. I have to restart the computer and it works fine for another hour then stops.

Starting a month ago, after I uninstalled and reinstalled System Suite 14, which includes a firewall, on my Win XP Pro system, my internet access would slow to a crawl or be entirely lost, usually after about one hour after rebooting.
 The uninstall/reinstall of SS14 also caused me to lose access to the Win XP Pro GUI because of deletion of key Win XP Pro files: NTLDR, NTDETECT.com and boot.ini. However, I was able to recover from that problem.
I have tried various winsock and TCP/IP repair programs but with only temporary improvement.
I have attached my Hijackthis log.

It started a couple of days ago where I would just randomly lose it (yellow triangle), and the only way to get it back would be to restart my wireless router and then to restart my computer. I have the box in power management tab of my network adapter properties where it can shut it off to save power unchecked. I am connected directly to the wireless router (not wireless).

Is this the only PC that disconnects - do other devices connected work OK - if so how are they connected to the router - wireless or wired

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

The problem is the following: My internet connection breaks every single hour. Yes, every single hour. Like clockwork. The time when it happens changes every day but stays the same during the day. For example today, my connection breaks at XX:14. (11:14, 12:14, 13:14....) This is getting extremely annoying as it keeps disconnecting me from Windows Live, IRC or any online games I happen to be playing.

The problem exists only in my computer, the other two in my home network are unaffected. Operating system is Windows XP Home and I'm connected to internet via a Telewell modem and a Buffalo Airstation router.

I've noticed this in the last few days, but my internet seems to crash at the exact same time (29 past the hour) every hour. We've recently had a new modem in, and was working fine. I recently had a mass clearout of a lot of things in my PC (got rid of 500 gigs), so I'm wondering whether I may have deleted something which has caused this.

I got my dsl modem like a month ago and its been EXCELLENT. Fast speed, never disconnects, its great. But i dont know whats hapenning now cuz every once in a while, it disconnects and i get a message that popups on the taskbar that says "a network cable has been unplugged". What i do is i either unplug and then plug one of the cables that are connected to the modem (like the phone cable or the power cable) and then it works again. hi Boltonsquad I have a similar sounding problem.
My connection to the network is reported as excellent but randomly the actual download speed drops away to nothing.
Does yours "mend " itself after a short while and start working again...or is yours off for good. I find rebooting the laptop resolves it faster than waiting for it to do it itself...until it does it again(not good).
I use a belkin router (number can be supplied when I get home if needed) ..maybe thats the common?

Next I would try a couple of things. Start off with a power cycle of your equipment, and see if that helps. Next you would need to narrow it down to what is causing the problem. Does it only happen when you are using chrome or does it happen with other browsers, more to the point does it happen with other programs that use the internet like email, instant messaging, etc. Are you running any programs that allow you to torrent, that can cause issues with your connection.

I am using CISCO Anyconnect. But regardless of what VPN, what happens is that connecting to VPN disconnects me from Internet which doesnot happen with XP.

My internet randomly disconnects for half a second. For instance, most of the time I have ventrilo and mIRC open, and sometimes (a lot of the time) an online game (TF2, CS etc) My internet will disconnect me from all of them at the same time, then I try to get back it and it lets me, so it seems its only disconnecting for like 1 second, then its back on.

For as long as I remember my Lenovo G580 would randomly stop recieving an internet connection from my wifi, leaving it still connected but without the ability to go online. I have been solving this problem by disconnecting and recconecting from the wifi, however this has been a temporary solution as the problem keeps coming back. I know this is a problem with the computer because it never happens with the other lenovo laptops in the house nor the phones connected to the same wifi. Im monitering this post so if you reply expect a response very soonThank you for the help

Hi there guys. I've have had some great help from all you guys here and I need your help again.
So my internet recently has been acting weird, not for just one laptop, but for all of them, The only thing that seems to not disconnect is the computer hooked up to the routers. I thought it was time for a new router so I bought two new ones to replace the old ones, so I did. They were replaced but the problem still continued! I updated the router firmware and it would fix it temporarily, but after a day it started again.

I have a Compaq Presario-AMD Athlon 64-3500+-512mb-200gb. Running windows xp sp3, updated and malware clean. I am stuck with dialup connection until [email protected] upgrades our area. I sometimes leave my pc running a download all night. I usually use orbit downloader but some downloads work better with no manager. Since I reinstalled windows my connection gets disconnected at at different times and redials the connection, but only at night when I leave it downloading a large file. In internet connection I have checked "never dial a connection". It is just an annoyance but I would like to fix it. Any help will be appreciated. I forgot to say that I use IE7 and have tried connection keeper ( with same results). Tried firefox several times but it was slower than IE on my pc. Thanks again. Lots of good advice on this site.

I have been having internet disconnects every since I have had VISTA. It is the same that used to occur in WIN ME & 98. It happens when you spend a long time surfing on one web site. There was a fix for this problem then and I have forgotten it. It is not my server as I have another computer with WIN 98SE and it does not happen. I have to cycle my DSL modem off & on to reconnect. I am connected through a router to a second computer and to the modem and the second computer stays connected. The internet icon (lower right display) will indicate local only is connected.

If you're using a laptop or server, the network card may be configured to go into power saving mode releasing the IP address after a set amount of time of non-activity.

Which version of Windows Vista are you using? Vista is known to have plenty of networking issues on it's own so it may be worth searching Microsoft's KB (Knowledge Base) at www.microsoft.com if you're familiar with it.

Also your computer system mentions a Dell E-520 which appears to be a standard desktop PC, would you be able to confirm this?

Finally, if you could post the results of an "ipconfig /all" while the network is connected and then when it becomes unavailable, this would help troubleshoot the problem.

I am having an issue with frequent media disconnects. Upon booting my system, browsers do not connect to the internet. A restart fixes the problem for a while and the system eventually disconnects again. I have hardwired cable and supplier provided cable modem. The system says I am connected but browsers don't function until a soft restart. My PC is for personal use and is owned by me. I have recently added Spybot AV and previously used Windows Defender. McAfee in the distant past. None of them show much and if they do and the item is fixed, I still experience the same media disconnects.

When I turn on the Internet (I have a modem), it works fine until I turn other programs on then the Internet basically turns off, but the computer says I'm still connected to the Internet. Why is this doing this and why is the Internet turning off?

If I'm downloading something off the Internet say a game demo or a game update the Internet would just turn off like I said before and then I would have to disconnect and then reconnect and try redownloading and sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.

I found a pattern or it's just coincidence, but when the downloading box isn't the main thing selected for a while the Internet turns off. Someone please help and don't tell me to ask my ISP he's the other word for donkey.

Every so often when i am on the internet it disconnects and i cant open any web pages. The connection is still there in the bottom right hand corner, ip address etc. are still there but web pages wont open. I try to repair but i have to reboot to make it work again. I am using a laptop on a wireless connection, think this also may have something to do with the freezes it get occasionally.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Download HiJackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HiJackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose [Do a system scan and save a logfile].
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit [Scan] and then click on [Save log].
3. Post the HiJackThis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HiJackThis since they may be harmless.

Hi I have also been experinsing these problems. I am a video game player as well and whenever I try to play on my laptop my internet disconnects. But all my other devices that use wifi work fine. Also there is nothing wrong with my computer because it works fine on other networks such as my schools. I recently moved and am now using a different internet provider ,centerylink. I think I have to change my modem channel but centurylinks website were you change modem settings is a scam. The website does not work and my parents think theres something wrong with my computer and are refusing to change internet service providers. So I am wondering how If I can change modem channels a different way.

A:Internet disconnects

Hi, You might have another wifi signal very close to your house that is on 'your' channel, it happens.
You can only move your channel to one of three different frequencies, that is the lowest, the middle or the highest one. So say your current channel is 6, there is no point going to 7, it's still too close.
If the 'other' problem wifi channel near you is say '1' then you should try to go to the other end of the range.
You change your WiFi channel in your router, then your laptop will find it.
You don't need a website to do that, it's between your laptop and your router.
You make the changes through any web browser, and the details will probably be on the label of your router.
But this might not the problem, although it's a fairly easy one to 'fix' if it is.
