I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey all

I've tried multiple microphones and also tried an USB audio card(adapter?), but still got the static background noise. The microphones worked well on my laptop, got nice and crisp sound there. Also, when I click listen to this device on microphone settings, I get clean audio as well. I've tried recording with audacity, windows default sound recorder and OBS.
I have microphone settings set to 100% recording volume and 0 Boost (found the static to be lowest on these settings).

Also, some programs like Mumble seem to reduce the static ( while skype, OBS, raidcall, audacity etc don't)

my mobo is
Asus P8-Z77V LE Plus and i use the default sound card ( Realtek? ALC889 i think? )

Just recently upgraded drivers for it, didn't really help.

A:Mic white noise when recording

Do you get any noise when just listening to audio? Just wondering if its a playback problem rather than a recording problem?

My recording studio backup PC is using this same motherboard and an i5 3550 CPU.

So, my mxl 990 microphone works on other computers, but on my windows 7 pc it registers absolutely no change in volume whatsoever as the sound level is always at full volume. If you record the input, it sounds like a very quiet high pitched white noise and records no other audio. Changing input levels affects nothing and I have ruled out feedback or any similar problems with the actual microphone. It must be the computer. HELP!

You could try uninstalling the hardware and reinstalling it in device manager.

Hello. I am EpicallyAWSM.

Alright before I explain, I must tell you that I WAS able to record audio previously.

I'm having a problem while recording audio with Fraps (a game video-recording software). Previously, I was unable to find the Stereo Mix at all, until I found the Drivers CD that came with my computer.

After I installed the driver, I tested it on a few different games, but the result was still the same: no audio in my recorded files. I have double-checked, and the volume for Stereo Mix is maxed, and it is set to the default recording device. I have spent countless hours trying to find a fix for this problem, so I decided to file it in myself.

One thing though, is that I'm aware my sound card driver is a little out of date, but I am unable to update it because I get an error while running the setup file. My sound card is "Realtek High Definition Audio Card" - that's all I know about it.

I'm sure my version of Fraps is capable of recording this audio, because I was able to do so before. Suddenly though I was unable to record audio and I had a problem with sound channels in Game Maker 8 (problem I will be asking in the Game Maker forum). I am unsure what to do. Please do not give me the answers I have been seeing for the past week (Check Show All Devices, make sure your volume is maxed, etc.)

Thank you

Turns out the doubling effect was caused by the "monitor" being on with the computer while monitoring from the USB device. When turned off it disappeared, also, didn't affect recording at all.

As a court reporter, I use a software (from Stenograph) which records to a .wav file as I write. I have such a severe echo during playback, which makes it impossible to even use this audiosync feature within my software. I am not very computer savvy, so I may need "dummy" type step-by-step instructions on changing the settings! Thank you! I should also mention that I am using the internal mic for recording. Thanks!

A:Severe echo during recording playback

By default (and not chageable) the PC's speakers are on all the time and thus if the speaker volume is not set to Zero (off) there can be feedback and echo.

There are also some Sound Enhancements in many PC sound systems, such as echo, reverb, chorous that can be heard on any audio playback. If this is the case, check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound for a sound control panel, such as the RealTek HD Audio Audio Manager (for systems with RealTek audio) as it has an option for Sound Effects such as Echo.

Hi Lenovo and everyone, I have two issues with the sound of my Y700-15ISK:I.When any Realtek driver is installed that includes support for the subwoofer, a high pass filter is applied on the main stereo speakers, making sound poorer and more mono-like, especially with enhanced bass using an equalizer.(High pass filter removes low bass frequencies from the main stereo speakers.)(When the default Microsoft driver is installed that does not have subwoofer support, no high pass filter is applied on the main stereo speakers.)Is there a way to disable the high pass filter? I would like bass to come from the main stereo speakers as well. I see no such option on any of the available GUIs, is there such an option from a Command Line Interface? If there is no such option currently, could you put this option in a subsequent driver release, or simply remove the high pass filter from the driver? If you do not have the resources to do so, could you enable us to modify the driver source code and create a custom driver without high pass filter? I am sure the community would love the enhanced music coming from this and similar laptops using the updated driver.(Win 10 or Win7) II.Only on Win7:Subwoofer is out of sync with the main stereo speakers resulting in echo.Happens using Lenovo's Win7 64-bit, Win10 64-bit, and Realtek's generic driver as well. Could you guys fix this? Does anyone have a solution for these? Thanks,Andras

Hello,

After I reinstalled my computer I saw that stereo mix is not recording any sound, so I searched for a solution on other forums , but nothing worked.Than I found this forum and I saw the thread "Jack output reassignments (Fix)" and I changed the registry binaries, but still nothing.

I'm a newbie on this,so I need help to fix the problem.I got this version of my realtek driver: 6.0.1.6526.I downloaded it from guru3d.com , because I can't download from the official realtek site.

Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.

A:Stereo Mix not recording

Normally, the registry and the jack assignments should only be touched in specific situations. Because the System Mixer apparently is not recording has nothing to do with the jack assignments. Thus you should put them back to the original configuration.

Exactly what do you mean about the System Mixer not recording? What program are you using to record? What are you trying to record? Streaming Audio from the Internet? A microphone input? A Line In Input? Or is it that you do not have any audio at all, which would be more than just a system mixer problem.

Have you reinstalled your PC or motherboard vendor's drivers for Vista/Win 7? (You also need to fill in the "My System Specs").

We can't really help you without more info.

Go to the right hand end of your taskbar and you will see the loudspeaker icon. Right click on this, and in the dialogue box that pops up choose recording devices. Then make sure that the devices selected / marked active are actually the ones you are using. I have found the options 'Wave' and 'Line' often work better that stereo mix for recording.

If this doesn't move you forward, come back, but with details of your system and sound card if you are using one, or the on-baord sound system if you are using that.

Hi guys, this is probably a dumb question, but:

I'm trying to record system audio in a couple of different applications, and it's not working. Specifically, I'm trying to record audio off the web in Audacity, and system audio to accompany screenshot video in Debut Video Capture.

Based on google-fu, I went into the Sounds Control Panel and enabled Stereo Mix, but even when I select it as the record input in the applications, I get total silence on the recording, even though the expected sound is coming out of my speakers.

I'm using Windows 7 Home.
Again: The problem is NOT simply that Stereo Mix is disabled. That seems to be a common problem, and enabling it suffices for most people. But as I said, I've already done this, but when I select Stereo Mix as the input, it simply doesn't work.
Any help would be much appreciated. It's probably something simple I'm missing, but I've tried everything I can think of or find info about online. Thanks!

A:Recording off Stereo Mix not working

Hi,
1.Have you set Stereo Mix as default device and default communication device? Just as a mention, enable is not the same as default (green check mark).
2.Also, try disabling Microphone while enabling Stereo Mix.
3.If the methods above not work, reinstall the sound driver for test.
Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sounds> Click "Device Manager".
Find the driver/device that you wish to reinstall, which would be your sound driver, "right-click" and select "uninstall".

Then reboot, if this was a Windows provided driver, then your PC should reinstall it the next time you log back in. If it requires the driver from the manufacturer you will be prompted to provide it.
Meanwhile, I still want to mention the steps to enable Stereo Mix.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click to higlight the RealTek audio device and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of problems and a first step to fix your problem.

Back in the day, most mics sounded awful and your only alternative was usb mics. However, newer motherboards seem to have better onboard mic (less noise) and any old headset will do.

the motherboard I have is an asus P5KPL-CM it's onboard audio is:
VIA VT1708B 8 -Channel High-Definition Audio CODEC

and its chipset:

Intel G31
Intel ICH7

In windows xp, audio capture was fine. I primarily use the mic with online gaming and was really happy with how well the onboard sound recorded. Very clean, little noise. In game people said my mic sounded great and tests showed that.

Went to windows 7 recently, everything is great except the mic recording is also capturing what audio output is going on (ie. the game's sound as well)

I played with the nixer settings to death and can't seem to prevent this from happening. All games do it, windows sound recorder, audacity etc.

I noticed there is a stereo mix tab and it has it's own recording volume which I have as muted and its recording level down to zero.

This is with the front mic port but I've tried the back and same thing. This isn't an expensive headset, but again it worked great in xp. If the cables were gone it would be scratchy, not pick up the audio output. But I have a backup of this headset and tried it but the same thing.

I don't have the speakers plugged in, but thought maybe the headset was 'bleeding' somehow and the mic was picking it up, but with just the mic plugged in alone it still recor... Read more

Some sound cards do NOT support stereo mix, regardless of settings.

You can try older drivers--XP or Vista--in compatibility mode. That works in some cases.

If not, you would need to buy another internal or external sound card that is known to support stereo mix in Windows 7.

My microphone is supposed to record in stereo and I can use the "listen to microphone" setting on my computer and hear it that way but when I go into audacity or any other recording programs I have on my computer it will record both channels of a stereo recording as if I'm recording with a mono microphone on both channels. Drivers do not cost anything if you download them from your PC or laptop manufacturer's website - anywhere else that charges for them, it's a scam.

If it's a PC and it was self-built or built-to-order (in other words not factory-built & no brand-name) download drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website - they're free too.

I would greatly appreciate your help as this is my hobby and my joy to share music with my friends. I'm not very tech savvy so please use layman's terms.

This is a bit of a weird one...

I'm attempting to record music from vinyl onto my pc.
I have my turntable connected to an amp, which is connected to the line-in socket on my soundcard.

The first problem I noticed was that I was only recording the left-hand track of the stereo sound. The right-hand track was just recording as silence.
At first I thought this must be due to a connection problem somewhere causing the right-hand track signal to not reach the soundcard. However I then discovered that if I just wanted to listen to music from the vinyl through my computer speakers then it played both left and right tracks perfectly. So both left and right signals are definitely reaching my soundcard fine and the problem is purely with recording.

I checked the recording balance, it was set at dead centre, so that didn't seem to be the cause of the problem.
However, I decided to experiment with the recording balance a bit, and this is where it gets really weird.....
As I've already said, with the recording balance set perfectly central it records the left hand track but no right hand track.

If i move the balance gradually over to the right, the left hand track gradually fades out (as you'd expect), but the right hand track continues to record nothing.

But the really weird thing is when i move the recording balance gradually over to the left:
At first i still get all the left hand track and nothing from the right, but then at a certain point with the balan... Read more

Please I've just found that there isn't any stereo mixer for sound recording in windows 7.

Any way to solve this issue!?

The stereo mixer is not shown up in the show disabled or disconnected mode when I right click and choose these 2 options from the list.

Please any way to solve this issue!?

Thanks a lot.

Hello

Basically, my problem is that Fraps does not record the sounds that I hear from my computer. I have the most recent Sigmatel HD audio codec and on Fraps it is set to "Detect best sound input".

It has come to my attention that I need a stereo mixer option enabled in my sound properties, which I have looked for and don't have. I've read numerous tutorials on how to fix this, such as downloading a new driver or editing the registry, but only for notebooks.

I am using Windows XP, with a Dell XPS 710 Desktop, not the M1710 notebook!

I was hoping someone could help me out with enabling this Stereo Mixer thing, thanks.

Hello everybody I'm new here at seven forums. I have a question about the sound recorder program in windows 7. I have a headset with a microphone and I use the sound recorder program to record audio or record myself. Like I said the headset has a microphone and I when I use the sound recorder program before it use to record both left and right channel. I could hear audio from both channels or speakers. But now all of the sudden I can only hear sound from the left channel or left speaker. Weird right? I know. So I need help from you guys why is this happening. Why is the sound recorder program only recording on the left channel?

Hello!
My laptop's battery is basically a goner and until I can get a new one I've pretty much got the charger plugged in all the time. I enjoy recording my music but I no longer can..

When I plug my guitar amp's line output into the laptop's microphone jack (a method which worked flawlessly before the battery wore out), the recordings seem to pick up a ton of excess noise from the charging battery. I can only get about 2 minutes out of the battery w/o charger and I can't record much in that amount of time. The built in microphones aren't very good or else I would just use them to record.

Is there a way to avoid this noise issue without buying a new battery?
I am running Windows Vista on an HP Pavilion dv2000. I am using Audacity to make recordings.

Thank you

A:background noise when recording

What kind of noise is it? Is it a constant, digital sounding interference? I have this same thing with my Acer laptop, and I just assumed it was because I'm using a poor quality sound card with unshielded components on the inside.

You might want to look into getting a better soundcard for this computer if the recordings are important.

Hello everybody. Recently someone wanted me to record them peforming, and I agreed. They came into my home studio which doesnt have a recording booth at the moment, and I let them record.

The end result was not very good because the noise of my big antec case and all the fans I have in it.

My question is....is there a program that I can record a little clip of just the background noise in my studio, and have that REMOVED from a recording?

Thanks

I recently started experiencing issues with my microphone input line. While recording on Audacity with my Labtec 534 desktop mic, I began to get somewhat regular clicks and taps that are, to me, unexplainable. I turned off everything short of my computer that could be making these noises and they continued to show up in the recordings. I decided to try out my headset to see if it was just the Labtec mic, but no luck: the clicks and taps show up in recordings made with the headset as well. I decided to record for a bit on Audacity with the mic -turned off- and the noises persisted. Yes, the noises were still being picked up with the mic turned off. I then did the same thing with Windows Sound Recorder and, lo and behold, the noises were, of course, there.

I'm stumped. Considering both my sound recording programs pick up the noise and it happens regardless of what mic I use (and whether the mic is even on), what is there left for me to do? Is it my input like I think? I didn't have this problem before today and I have no idea what could have caused it.

My sound card is the SigmaTel C-Major Audio. I'm recording onto a laptop from my Labtec mic, which plugged directly into the mic jack on its (the laptop's) side. The problem started up suddenly and I can't think of anything that I did or happened to the computer to provoke it.

Best,
M.

A:Recording Noise Problem

Assuming your laptop runs XP (it would have been good to mention the Windows version) check in Task manager to see if there are any CPU usage "spikes", as these could be the cause, where the CPU momentarily runs out of resource and a short soundcard stutter occurs.
