Spectre x360 2 external monitors and charging

Q: Spectre x360 2 external monitors and charging

I will buy the spectre x360 if I can confirm it supports my setup: I need to connect 2 external monitors (both with thunderbolt 3 to mDP cable). This is possible, right? Then, and that is what i cannot confirm anywhere, is there a way to charge the spectre without disconnecting one of the screens? I am OK if that requires a special adapter (I have seen thunderbolt to hdmi atapters where you can connect a USB-C charger ). I just really need to confirm this setup is possible, as my setup require 3 screens (2 + spectre's) and don't want to disconnect a screen to charge the spectre. One battery charge is not enough to last me the whole day.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The Spectre x360 has two USB Type-C power connector and Thunderbolt ports. You can connect them to two displays that has a USB-Type-C connector. You will have to disconnect one to charge the Spectre. It is an ultrabook, and not chargeable with the single USB 3.0 port. Displays with thunderbolt portshttps://www.google.nl/search?q=LCD+displays+with+thunderbolt+ports&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-... The main battery in the Spectre 360x is stated to provide up to 15 hours of use. There is an accessory http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-powerup-backpack available that will provide plenty of power for your ultrabook.

Hi, I own the HP Spectre x360 - 15-ap012dx (ENERGY STAR), which came preconfigured from Best Buy with the UHD display and 256gb SSD. I have two questions about this device: 1. Can I upgrade the SSD to an NVMe PCI-e SSD such as the Samsung 960 EVO (which is an M.2 SSD). I know a recent BIOS update added support for new Samsung SSDs, but I want to make sure before I buy one. 2. Can I charge my Spectre via the USB-C port? From what I understand, it might support USB Power Delivery (it's a 3.0 port, not a new Thunderbolt 3 port) Thanks!

A few days ago while I`m working on my laptop I noticed that it stopped charging, there was a message: "Plugged in, not charging". I tried to charge it with a different( 100% working charger) and it didn`t help. After I unplugged the chargers I noticed that the charging led keeps lighting even though it shouldn`t.The next day I tried to go over the steps of a soultion that an HP tech guy suggested here in the forums:Step 1. The lap top charging led no longer lights up and the battery doesn't charge. About 1 wk after warranty expired (end of APril) i turned one the laptop and used it for a while when a warning poped up indicating low battery and asked to connect to AC. Once plugged in, I noticed that the led light did not come on nor the power icon indicated AC. Searched this forum and found Re: My HP Spectre 360 laptop crashed suddenly and won't charge.Just before the the battery emptied, I  managed to complete the suggestion including hard reset and UEFI hardware test. Which passed. Along the way, I noticed NO beeps or power led blinking. Also, used a multimeter to measured the output of the charger when plugged into AC which showed similar measurements as for another HP charger. Unfortunately this charge's plug won't fit the Specter. The laptop is now unusable. Am hoping someone can help me recover this laptop and my investement. Thanks in advance.

I recently purchased my laptop this past April and it has stopped charging.  I thought it was the charger since my guinea pig chewed the mickey mouse cable a bit, so I got a replacement in the mail.  However, replacing the cable did not solve the issue.  The partially chewed cable worked up until the day I installed Windows 10, coincidentally.  I'm just wondering if it's possible that installing Windows 10 could have caused some unkown bug to cause my laptop to stop charging.  I really don't think it's the charger since it is brand new.  Please can anybody help me?  Thank you. P.S. The laptop battery is dead so I cannot turn it on to check drivers or bios.

I just bought the new (KabyLake) Spectre 13" x360 and I like the machine in most ways but I wonder if I have received a unit with unusually "flaky" charging / USB ports or if this model in general is built like this? When charging one has to really "push" USB  C contact into the port in order for it to start (the LED to light up) and if I just move the machine or the charger slightly about it stops charging. At work I have an Elite X2 that also has USB C charging port but it is much more "solid" in its operation and is not experiencing this problem... So any experiences - is this an issu with the model or with my machine only?

I have three different original power adapters and I have the same issue with all of them. I have also tried to disable the keyboard baclighting since I read that could cause issues previously. I don't really want to send this one back too since I think that the third laptop will have the same issue.   This laptop will not charge. It does not even recognize that it is plugged in. I have tried multiple wall outlets and adapters and none of them work. The orange light next to the charge port never comes on or flicker or anything like that. Everything with this laptop is in perfect condition and i have used it lightly. I have seen from others that this is either a charging connector issue or a motherboard issue? What chance do i have to fix this at reasonable cost? Will HP help me out because this is clearly a manufacturing defect even though I am out of warranty? I bought it in 2015 and the warranty expired a few months ago.

With my new Spectre x360, I have 3 powered USB 3 ports. I need to disable having power going to one of them. My Garmin 3597 will not be recognised on this notebook when I connect my device, for upgrading the maps, unless it is a pure data port..."no charging". Is there some way to be able to disable having power go to one of the USB 3 ports. A:Spectre x360 charging issues - dead laptop

Please do not be upset, and lets figure out whats wrong with the charging first.  Firstly try to change the wall socket and, do not use any surge protectors in this process.  Now remove the battery, if it can be removed, and remove the AC Adapter and the devices connected.( if battery is not removable, continue without removing it ) Then press the power button for 1 minute and then reinsert the battery, and the charger.  Check if there is any LED on the charging port.  If white/amber its charging.  Now, try to power on the computer.   Reply back if this helps. If no LED indicator, the power supply could be bad, else the adapter.  Check with another charger(if available), if not, you will need to get in touch with HP support.  Thanks.

Hi, I just got the new Kaby Lake (Intel's 7th gen) Spectre x360 and ran it through its paces. It seems to be a solid machine, but there's one serious issue so far - external displays flashing on and off, at least when hooked up with a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter (this one from CableMatters: http://amzn.to/2gKQrVR. What happens when I connect external monitors (1 or 2-3 via DisplayPort MST) is sometimes they work fine.Sometimes, if I disconnect and reconnect, they start flashing on and off.Sometimes, the whole laptop freezes upon connection (happened twice today so far). And finally sometimes the externals are not working at all - the system detects them, but selecting Extend or anything in multi-monitor mode just reverts back to Single.Oh, and this happens once: http://i.imgur.com/Su9zInD.png http://i.imgur.com/qG9K8yC.png - the external display got stuck in a 640x480 generic mode and would not turn on.As you can see, it's a [email protected]$%*. Here's a video of the flickering/flashing (case #2 above): https://youtu.be/OkngFs_h2xk. Both the laptop and the 7th gen Intel chip are relatively new, so I haven't been able to find a thread discussing potential culprits, or fixes from HP. Hello! I have a HP Spectre i5 (http://store.hp.com/SwedenStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=F4W32EA&opt=UUW&sel=NTB) which i am trying to use two external monitors with. I use this travel dock for connectivity: http://www8.hp.com/emea_africa/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=10127478. What I am trying to do is connect two VGA monitors to the travel dock, one directly into the dock's VGA port and one with a VGA->HDMI adapter into the dock's HDMI port. However, i am not able to discover both external monitors when doing so. Before i spend (even more) time on trying to solve this, is this even possible? If not, what alternatives do i have? I was thinking maybe i can connect both monitors to one VGA->HDMI adapter each and then use something like this into the travel dock (http://www.lightinthebox.com/sv/hdmi-hane-till-dubbla-hdmi-hona-1-2-vags-splitter-kabel-adapter-for-... <-- that one is just the first i got on google, but you get the point). What i want to achieve is when i have my laptop stationary and plugged into the travel dock, i want to extend the screen over my two external monitors. I do not neccesarily need to have the laptop's internal screen active while doing so.  Thanks in advance!

A:HP Spectre with travel dock and two external monitors?

Hi, The travel dock is usefull for you when travelling around. It has ports for you to connect to ONE external monitor or ONE projector using VGA or HDMI (not both). It won't help you to connect TWO external monitors. Full stop. You need a proper dock which supports DisplayLink to be able to have 2 external monitors. I did post few tests last year. Regards.

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

New owner of HP Spectre x360 - 13-4003dx here. I want to ask if the bottom of the laptop, the area above the fan openings where the FCC info/text lies, is supposed to creak when I press it slightly. I first heard this noise when I took my laptop out of the sleeve and held that area. At first I thought it was just rubbing against the sleeve, but after further examination, that is not the case. If this occurs with other models of the Spectre, it is a bad build quality, I am not sure which component is under there, but I want to know if the creaking noise is normal with only a slight press along the text area. Thanks.

Just finished setting up my second Spectre x360 15t. The first one was a driver and screen flickering mess. As I'm finishing putting it through it's paces by running audio with a few tunes through Spotify and then over to Netflix to check dialogue, I've become aware that the fan has been running for some time. When I picked it up to feel the underside I was quite dismayed to feel how hot this thing was. Not cozy up to the fire hot but call the fire department hot. It was on a Xpad which was starting to get a bit toasty itself. No way this could ever sit directly on my lap. I know this is an ultrabook. I know i7 processors run warm under load but this fella gets HOT. I'm coming off a Spectre 13t with an i5 which is just as tight a unit as this one, but it never reached this kind of hot. I'm humorously concerned if I can put this on my desk while under heavy load without melting the finish off. Is anyone else experiencing similar circumstances? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Hi, my spectre x360 just out of warranty and will no longer charge the battery! Charger checked and working. When plugged into laptop, symbol appears to show connection but then states not charging. Battery nearly flat now but diagnostics state batter condition ok. Would appreciate any ideas to resolve please but I am not considered computer literate just general working knowledge!

Hello, Last winter purchased a convertible lenovo laptop. The first one had faulty hinges, I had it replaced on the same day I brought it in and the second one had faulty hinges and a faulty touchpad. So, I decided to ditch the cheaper computers and splurged on a HP spectre x360 from Best Buy. I live 200 kilometres away from large retail stores like this so getting back and forth is quite difficult, Staples was very understanding about the Lenovo laptops, however Best Buy told me there was nothing I could do when I described the problems I was having with my brand new HP. Several months went by and I avoided using the computer as much as possible in order to avoid facing the mistake I made in purchasing it. Eventually, my old computer became completely obsolete and I had no choice but use this HP.  My problems were not limited in any way. They ranged from an extremely annoying touchpad that sounded loose and made strange noises, the fact that the screen was closing on an odd angle, and the fact the the screen could barely stay open. A slight touch or even shifting the laptop would cause the screen to move. I could forgive these flaws if I had abused this computer or if it had received heavy usage, however I barely even turned the thing on. I contacted HP support and I must admit that they were polite, friendly and had my return materials sent very quickly.  My first bad sign involving the shipping process was the fact tha... Read more

Hi, I have an HP Spectre x360 that is a year and 5 months old. I was running it off the battery when suddenly a whole lot of smoke started coming from underneath the notebook and a smell of burnt plastic filled the air. Reading the forum I found that this is not something new to these HP Spectre x360 notebooks. Its it really possibile that HP have not activated a support program for who owns such an expensive notebook. My notebook is out of warrenty but I honestly think it was a close call, i was working on a wooden table when it started burning. Now I have a 1250 euro paper weight. I did try to contact support and was immediatly cut off once i gave them my serial number, or offered to pay for support. Will paying 30 euros actually achieve something, ie will they attempt a repair or will it be 30 euros just to be told over the phone that its something that simply cannot be repaired. Thanks

Upon opening the notebook on my desk, a series of cracks surfaced on the upper-left bezel of the screen, and extended across the screen. I keep my notebook for the most part on my desk, and when I travel, I put in the HP leather case, and in a well-paded bag. I've owned this notebook since August last year, and it has performed excellently besides the occaisonal loud fan noise and overheat.  I talked with a helpful HP Customer Support Rep, and I was told that if I were to send in my notebook, and screen damage will be presumed inflicted by the customer. I have also been in contact with the HP Executive board, but their reply did not grant me any help. I would like to know if I can send in my notebook for a proper examination, or if I can speak with a case manager on this issue. I really do not want to file a complaint to the BBB, but I feel that will be necessary if the material defect is to be assumed a damage on my part. Thank you in advance. I will include pictures of my display, as well as pictures of the siding to prove the lack of physical/blunt damage.

HP's lack of quality control is completely unacceptable and inexcusable, especially given the cost of the Spectre x360 line.I went through 5 (FIVE!) 13-inch Spectre x360's. All but one exhibited very loose trackpads (even very light taps will physically move the trackpad down and have an annoying loose click sound when taking your finger off of it). The one with an okay trackpad had USB-C issues. The trackpad -- arguable THE most important part of a laptop -- now feels like garbage. Hell, there are $200 Windows laptops and Chromebooks that have better trackpads than this $1,200 thing. It's extremely frustrating and disappointing. I REALLY wanted for the Spectre x360 to be my laptop (especially considering there's no other 2-in-1 out there that looks this good and is priced as nicely). Looks like the Lenovo Yoga 720 is next on my list. Just wish it had IR cameras for facial logins.

Does anyone know the difference in these models apart from screen quality and is it worth paying the extra. I was looking to purchase the 13-ac003tu but came across other models on the HP website. Does anyone know what the model numbers represent?13-ac065tu13-w031tu13-ac066tu13-ac003tu

The 1-minute hold of the power switch worked for me, but it is darn hard to do because of the somewhat inconvenient power switch position - and if you waver for a moment then the 60 seconds starts again. I found it easiest to turn the 360 on its side on a table and then it is easier to hold the switch down for the full minute uninterrupted. This for me only points out the importance for manufacturers to provide a HARD RESET capability through an unfolded paperclip or the like. C'mon guys, give us what we need to maintain our products!

Could not be more upset with HP. As I search the forums I am seeing so many people with this problem and looks like me the college student is the next on the list. My spectre x360 is just over a year old, shocking just past it's warranty, and the motherboard fried itself. I paid nearly 1400 dollars for this laptop as an investment in college. Now I'm only praying a local repair shop can salvage the memory. I'm left without a laptop during exam month and have lost all my college work. I was then asked at tech support to pay them nearly 700 dollars just to look at my laptop. I will honestly never buy from HP again, I paid good money I saved for college on a laptop I loved and it is now gone with HP refusing to help me out in any way. I took care of this laptop like a child had protective casing and everything not a dent or scratch to be seen, clearly a problem with HP and they won't fix it. So dissapointed.
