Program for adjusting screen resolution

Q: Program for adjusting screen resolution

Hey guys,
I've been looking for a program to adjust my screen resolution. I'm connecting my computer to a TV, unfortunately either my graphics card or the TV suck. I used to have a program with which I was able to set my custom screen resolution. Does anyone know of such a program?

Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Program for adjusting screen resolution

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Until recently, I was always able to adjust my monitor's screen resolution. Now whenever I try to adjust it to 2048 by 1536 pixels (the most resolution), I get an error message that says:

OUT OF FREQUENCY

HF: 95.4 kHz
VF: 60.0 Hz

OPERATING FREQUENCY

HF: 30-70 kHz
VF: 50-160 Hz

What does all this mean? Why can't I do something simple like set my screen resolution?

Help would be appreciated... thanks.

That's a pretty high resolution. Sometimes resolutions are listed that a monitor doesn't support. Where you able to set it there before?

Hi everyone!
I have a problem when i start using Win7 and adjust my screen resolution...
when i adjust the resolution to 1206x682 or higher, the whole windows become larger and eventually become larger than my screen. So i can see only part of my taskbar. However, this will not happen when i use XP.
Is this normal?
At this time i can't use any video editing software as they require 1024x768 or higher resolution, what should i do?
Sorry for my poor English. I am still an English learner.
thanks!

UPDATE-----
when i set to a higher resolution in XP, the icons are smaller and the size of the windows doesnt change. But when i do this in 7, the size of icons doesnt change but the whole windows become larger.

AOC 2353 monitor, on windows 7 has a recommended resolution of 1920 by 1080

when it is set here I notice even the desktop boots up quick and efficient. opposed to when it is set at 1600 by 900. which is best on the eyes.

problem with 1920 by 1080 is that the folders and print are far too minute to see.

this is with Intel onboard video, from the processor.

is there a way to expand the text and folders? browsers can be zoomed

would having a video card help?

A:adjusting screen resolution - AOC monitor

If you go into the advanced display settings, you can increase the size of items and fonts and can "bold" the text.
I've got bad eyes, so I do this every time I set up one of my computers after I install the Windows operating system.

The native resolution for my 27" monitors is 1920 X 1080.
This is an example of what my desktop looks like after changing the display settings.
As you can see, the icons and text are noticeably larger and bolder than they would be from using the default settings.

So I bought a new netbook for work travel recently and loaded a program that I need to use. Program runs fine and all, however the prescribed screen resolution for the program is 1024x768 and the netbook (with Windows 7 HE and an Intel GMA 3150) doesn't seem to want to go past 1024x600. Does anyone perhaps have a thought or a way to get 7 to display more here? I don't mind if I even just need to scroll around to get to all the material, but right now its just cutting off part of the program making it impossible to work on some of it.

A:Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

Hi Orion3,

While your 1024x768 program is a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, 1024x600 is a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9) as many netbooks have. I'm pretty sure that if 600 is the maximum pixel height it can display but you still need to match the 4:3 aspect ratio program, then you'll have to go down to 800x600 rather than up. Try that and let me know how it works.

I have been reading through the search results for 'Screen Resolution' but I can't seem to find a answer for my problem.

I have been running several pieces of software in the 600x800 resolution for the last few months, I have now purchased an unwanted touchscreen which workes really well but likes a higher screen resolution, this has not been a problem and is running in 1280x1024.

However one of my programs is an EPOS System (Sales Stream, by JSA) this program works best in 600x800 and is difficault to use in a resolution any higher than this due to the touchscreen functions.

As this is the only program I have that does not automatically change the Screen Resolution and I don't want to lower the screen resolution permantly, I was wondering if there was a way of getting the software to change it by itself and return it once I exit the program.

I have tried to run it as 640x480 under the compatability tab this works but makes the software so big it does not fit the screen and is unusable.

Any help would be greatful, as I am fine in building PC but not very good when it comes to programming them, all my machine builds are built and OS installed and sold blank for customer own personalisation.

I have had my laptop for nearly half a year now and I just recently found an HDMI cable in an old junk box that can be connected from my widescreen Samsung DLP to my Laptop. The problem is that when I set my TV to be the main display the task bar does not fit on screen and I can barely see it. Another problem is when I play my games or watch videos they also appear to be bigger then what my screen is. I cant even see the exit or minus button when I make my windows/browsers in full screen. I have tried changing the screen resolution, but that doesn't work either. I then thought it might be my TV but it does not give my the option to change its aspect ratio.

I there solution to my little problem? Like a download or a program that is naturally in the computer that can adjust the aspect ratio (not resolution) manually for extended displays? And the resolution is on its recommended settings by the way.

A:I need help with adjusting my screen.

What is the graphics card on your laptop? Both AMD and nVidia cards have overscan options in their software which should give you the capability to adjust your display size manually until it fits. Also check that you're outputting the correct resolution for your TV.

First of all, please specify maker and model of your laptop. Some vendors could have their own third party replacements for some functions.

Also, please go to Control Panel - Power Options - on the right side of your current active power plan select "Change plan settings" - in the next window click "Change ADVANCED power settings" - then navigate to - Display - Display brightness and check percentage.

Hi everyone, I have a pretty weird tech problem.

What happens is, whenever I adjust my monitor's brightness (from its physical buttons) the screen turns black. However the monitor is still on, the LED is still green and the computer is still responsive, the screen just turns black.

I can use the computer just fine, as long as I don't try to adjust anything. If I do want to change something, I have to change the values a little, then restart, change them again, restart until I have the values I want. This problem appeared when I tried to adjust the brightness by keeping the + button pressed down, so it increased quickly.

Is this indicative of a dying monitor ? It is pretty old, it's an LG L1750SQ, 17 inch LCD, it's over 4 years old. Also, I do not believe the video card to the problem, since it stays pretty cool, it has a good heatsink on it.

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I looked around a little and found one other thread with a similar question, but the question wasn't really answered. I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt, so I thought I'd try asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

I will try and be as thorough as possible, although the resulting question will be simple. I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with.

So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago. It's a free online game called Continuum/Subspace and there are user created "zones" or variations of the game within the game (if that makes sense). I play in a zone called Trench Wars. It's a top down game, meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area (map) you are playing in. You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship. The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves.

Well I noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map. It works just like your desktop in essence. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, but the more space you have. In the game, the higher the resolution, the smaller the ships are, but you can see more space around you. Obviously, this would give an advantage to anyone playing ... Read more

smaller than native resolutions achieved by grouping more than one cell to form pixel thats why non native resolution on lcd sometimes gets blurry or edgy

Hi guys,

I'm totally new to Windows 7 (64bit) after using WinXP for a long time. I just got a new Dell XPS 15 laptop with a 1080p screen and it looks great, except that I have an issue where some programs don't seem to be displaying in the same resolution as the desktop. I can't find any advice out there about this issue either, though perhaps that's because I'm struggling to put the issue into words succinctly.

For example, iTunes looks ""blurry" compared with other programs (explorer, WMC, etc) - http://i55.tinypic.com/2mh8nfc.png

It happens with other programs, such as Google Chrome http://i55.tinypic.com/2pob9zk.jpg

It looks to me that the container is displaying in the correct resolution, but the content isn't. I have updated all of my drivers and installed all Windows updates but this hasn't fixed the problem. I'm running at native res 1920 x 1080.

Has anyone else come across this issue? Any help or a gentle nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Ok I have a friend with a Sony Notebook TRA2-A note book the real small one. Anyway, we finished loading some software on the notebook, then when we launched the software it wouldn't fit on the screen of the notebook. Really odd, we tried to get it to resize but the program is a fixed window, then we tried to make the resolution change and still it was stuck with larger than the window resolution. So, now I want to know how in the world do I get this program to resize with the resolution of the screen so that it will fit properly. The software in question is a proprietary piece of software that is used to launch an automatic satellite system for remote locations for Internet. They are using XP is there anyway I can force this program to adhere to the desktop resolutions?

Thanks!

Windowed programs decides their own Window size.
There is a tool called The Customiser that can resize application windows programmatically and do other neat stuff.
You can download it from here.
It's a demo program but fully functional.

This problem started happening about a week ago and I've never had a problem like this before. The problem is that often (but not always) when I start a game, it goes into full screen and it will usually change the resolution like mosts games do, except when I either exit the game normally, or alt+tab out of it, the resolution does not change back to normal. I have my desktop resolution set at 1024x768 normally. This seems to hold true for almost all my games. Even the windows screensaver causes the same problem if it changes the resolution.

After this happens, if I go into display properties and try to change any settings whether it is resolutuon, color depth, or even the refresh rate. I get an error that says it can't be done and I probably don't have administrative rights. The only way to fix it is to reboot the computer.

My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420. Around when the probelms started I updated the drivers to some beta drivers from the Nvidia site. I assumed those might be the cause so I downgraded to the latest official foreceware drivers which I had installed before. The only other things I can think of that I have installed before the problem occoured was the new Microsoft Anti-spyware but I doubt that would have caused it.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem? I am out of ideas...

Hello,

My PC crashes whenever I try to play certain games that load in full-screen (although I'm not sure the program is necessarily related to the full-screen display). Right now the particular game I'm having a problem with is Silent Hill 2, but I've also had it with games like Interstate 76, which is much older than my computer. Full-screen DOES work with the original Command & Conquer, though.

What happens is that I get some sort of error, which I could choose to ignore or close the program. Ignoring it does nothing, and when I close the computer freezes. The resolution jumps down to 640x480 and the color fades slightly. When I reboot, it's still in that resolution so I have to change it back to my preferred 1076x768.

I thought I might just try to disable the Full-screen, but I don't know how to do that before the program even loads.

I just downloaded the latest version of DirectX -- still doesn't work.

I figured it could be a problem with the graphics card or the drivers, but I can't get the exact specs on that because when I do the "Run -> dxdiag" the computer crashes in the same way! I don't know what to do.

The specs that I do know are:
- Windows 98 second edition operating system
- 160 MB RAM
- Intel Celeran Processor

A:PC freezes upon program start, resolution shrinks

Okay, I figured out that I have an ATI Rage Pro display adaptor, and I downloaded the latest driver. The game still doesn't work, although the computer doesn't crash when I try to load it.

It starts, the screen goes black for a little while, and then I keep getting the message, "There was a crash last time. Using safe graphics option." I click OK and it just shuts off, though, back to the desktop as if nothing happened.

I'm thinking maybe I have to reinstall the game.
EDIT: Didn't work.

I just bought a new dell xps 15 which is really awesome by the way but the qhd resolution makes certain programs unusable. It's 3200x1800. So for instance I play online poker and when I downloaded a poker program the game client came up like 4 inches wide on the screen so the text is unreadable. I thought I would just have to use a smaller resolution like 1080p but the size of the game client didn't change when I changed the resolution. Resizing the client windows doesn't resize the text so what are my options?
Thanks guys

Oh Im using windows 8.1 to be clear

A:3200x1800 resolution making program text unreadable

Hi there.

Right mouse click on screen.

Go to PERSONALIZE==>DISPLAY==> then choose what you want to make larger .

Desktop Icons can be made larger anyway by using the SCROLL wheel on the mouse and holding down the CTRL key. Do this from your desktop.

(However some Apps using the .NET type of programming interface will have fixed "Box" size things and either can't be changed or will start to show weird effects as you increase text sizes).

Even from this Forum as you increase the text size you get some weird effects - for instance the Upload image dialog starts to look a "Little Wonky"

Screenshot enc

Another application like that is the EXCELLENT photoshop -- the menu text though is virtually UNREADABLE however the drop down items are OK and this is only on a 22 inch monitor running at 1080p.

Screenshot enc as well.
(Some online gaming is designed to be played on tablets or phones so you might be stuck with that size screen for your poker app. The developers these days seem to program their stuff based on a fixed number of pixels etc rather than realize there's a HUGE range of different size and resolution devices out there now. The Metro type stuff doesn't help either -- If there is a "Computer God" out there could he please BANISH all FIXED size screen programming and let the users monitors / devices choose the resolution the application runs on and adjust text sizes and window boxes accordingly).

Cheers

Hello there!
I like to record videos for World of Warcraft Events and turning them into some nice basic videos for the attendees to watch. I use Fraps to record and Windows Movie Maker to edit (I know, shame on me).

Recently, black brackets has started to appear on the sides of my recordings, when I put them into Movie Maker, this sadly ruins the recordings for me, due to some of the effects I put on them.
I recently changed from my Laptop screen to a monitor (Medion - MD 30159) 16 units wide and 9 units tall. Very old monitor.
I have tried downloading different movie editing programs, and another recording program and nothing has removed the brackets. According to an online guide I found, then I should be able to remove them by clicking from standard to wide, in the Windows Movie Maker program, but this only moved the brackets from the top and bottom of the screen, to the sides.
Could the problem for this be that my old monitor's proportions does not fit with the recording/editing programs?
Would it help me if I got a new monitor with other proportions?
Is there any possible way that I can remove the brackets of my current recordings? As I would hate to loose them (In another editing program? Settings in windows? Anything!)
- I use Windows 10 on a Lenovo Notebook (I think)

Thank you for taking your time to read this.

A:Problems with recording resolution for video editing program

Depending on the software used, it will either record using the desktop resolution or give you the option to choose your own resolution. If you are getting black bars, you are not recording the desktop resolution.

For best results and clarity, you should be using the screens native resolution in Windows and your games. In this case, that appears to be 1440 x 900.

I bought my Yoga 910 with 4K resolution, Windows 10 and 16 GB/550 GB configuration in February 2017. I am facing following issues since last few days:  Screen resoltion is faded and appears like old days 800 pixels resolution rather than 4K, eventhough settings are all OK.Screen fonts appears to be fading...Screen acts like a "see through" occasionally...Meaning you can see an open app (like e-mail) and it surfaces on the screen.Contacted Lenovo support and guy was completely clueless. He loaded "Hardware" check utility from Lenovo on my machine and had asked me to run and he will call you back to me in two hours! He never called. In the meantime hardware check did not detect any issues! Any suggestions???

I just bought an HP Pavillion dv6-7014nr and I love it! Except for one thing. I upgraded to the 1920x1080 screen to get the HD quality and the matte display. Everything on this screen is so tiny, its uncomfortable to read. I have increased the text size in windows to 130% dpi and I have downloaded and extension in Firefox to keep the zoom level I like. My problem is that with this increased DPI setting, the text in programs, such as iTunes gets cut off or overlaps. I was just wondering if there was a solution to this problem, or is it just something I have to live with?
Thanks very much!

Dan

A:[SOLVED] 1920x1080 screen resolution on a 15.6" Laptop Screen

1920x1080 doesn't suit everyone on a 15.6" screen as it's really more suited to large-screen external monitors (20" or more). It's big plus of course is that it gives you much more screen space to use for multi-tasking or using apps which have many palettes (like Photoshop). Personally I think 1920x1080 is way too high for the average laptop screen size unless you've got perfect eyesight.

If you don't need all that space, you may find that setting a lower resolution (and changing DPI & zoom levels back to their defaults) is more in line with what your eyesight can deal with. It probably won't look as pin-sharp as the native 1920x1080 resolution though, but at least you shouldn't get some app Windows extending beyond the screen edges.

A:[SOLVED] widescreen but my max screen resolution doesnt fit the whole screen

Thanks to whoever moved this post, i didnt know were to put it, also,, PROBLEM FIXED, if anyone gets this problem on WINDOWS 7 all you do is:

Step 1: right click ->> Screen Resolution
Step 2: Change the Multiple displays to Duplicate these displays.

This wont fit the whole desktop on ure screen if u have a big widescreen like mine, but this will make it unable to move items off the screen

Hope this helps

A:Setting Screen Resolution to Max my Screen is not responding.

Disconnect from your graphics card and plug into the motherboard port.

Uninstall the drivers for the 780 and start over.

You may or may not have to remove the card.

Unless someone comes up with a better idea.
