I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am wondering if it is possible to disable the Thumbnail Previews for the taskbar buttons while still using Aero?

I have taskbar buttons side by side just as in older Windows versions, as in "Never combine", and would like to keep on using Aero, but without the app Thumbnail popup previews.

Thank you.

A:Disabling Taskbar Thumbnail Preview with Aero

Hello Laurus12

Have a look at this tutorial see if this is what your looking for - Taskbar Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable

Microsoft has admitted that the Aero Glass interface, while some thought it was pretty, was a useless waste of processing power and an impediment to usability, and they have removed it from Windows 8. Some of us would have disabled it in Windows 7 long ago and used a Classic or Basic theme except for one feature that was available only when Aero was enabled: Taskbar thumbnail previews. If either of those themes was selected, Aero was disabled, but that also disabled the thumbnails. We could disable transparency and keep the thumbnails, but that left us with Aero and several weird features (such as simulated transparency in title bars when windows are moved) still enabled.

I've always found taskbar thumbnail previews to be a very useful feature, especially when I've got a bunch of browser windows open with several tabs in each window. I mean, I remember what I was looking at, but what I think should be the title of a page and what a web developer actually used in the <TITLE> tag are often unrelated (for developers, it's always been about indexing in the search engines). That makes the window listings that replace the previews in those non-Aero themes sometimes less than useful.

There used to be several utilities for Windows XP that would bring taskbar thumbnail previews to that OS (one was called "Visual Tooltip"). I'm wondering if there is a similar third-party tool that will allow thumbnail previews in Windows 7 when the Basic or Classic themes are enabled... Read more

Is there an easy way to change the size of the thumbnails Windows shows on "big"?

The huge ones are too big, the big ones are too small (and I'm not even at a full HD resolution).

Tweak UI had a feature like that, but I think it's not compatible with 7.

Try this, it might work for you
First open the folder you want to have the custom sized preview in. (Click the button show in pic 1)
Select the size you want (see pic 2)
Now you should have them custom sized

This is my 1st post in the forums, I have no profile info filled out, I'm not looking to waste anyones time but do have a question to ask, prior to my asking I searched and found nothing, anyway I'm looking for a way to enlarge the size of the thumbnail preview in Windows 7 I know that there was a registry mod for windows XP that would allow you to change the overall size of thumbnail I'm looking for something that will allow me to do that in windows 7

I am aware that Windows & has a slider bar that will allow you to change from a detail view to a extra large view however I find all are to small for my use, here is my situation.

I have a wireless HTPC setup @ use a 50" HDTV as the only monitor, I use a screen resolution of 1804 X 1004 and a DPI scale of 148% as this is the only settings that will allow me to read text, navigate windows and use all installed programs as needed, the problem I have is the preview size of all thumbnails is entirely to small.

I would like to change the default size of all of thumbnails to a larger size, I know there was a registry mod for XP that would allow you to change the size of the thumbnail I need something similar for Windows 7 the problem I have is when using windows explorer a small icon view gives me exactly 100 thumbnails all are so frikking small I can't begin to tell what the thumbnail represents, with using a medium view I have 88 thumbnails still all to small to view, the only setting I can use that even starts to gi... I apologize in advance if my thread is a duplicate of another thread. My problem is difficult to describe, so I could not find anything through the forum search or Google.

I'll begin by stating what I'm not looking for:
I'm not looking for how to increase the delay or the duration of the taskbar thumbnail previews.
I'm not looking for how to disable taskbar thumbnail previews.
Here is what I am looking for. If you open up two Windows Explorer windows, by default Windows groups them on the taskbar. If you want to switch between the two, you can click the Explorer ("folder") icon, and out will pop up your two Explorer windows, in miniature thumbnails.

What I dislike is that if you hover your mouse over one of the taskbar thumbnails, all other windows fade out except for the one you are hovering over. It is just like Aero Peek, except for taskbar thumbnails. But in my case, even if I don't hover over the thumbnails and click instead, the delay is too short so that I still get that annoying Aero Peek. That is, even if I know which window I want and click on it, I can't click fast enough to prevent everything else from fading out. It's really annoying, because I already know which window I want so there really isn't any point to fade out and then fade back in the same instant.

This happens with any window open on the taskbar. Is there any way to either
turn off Aero Peek for the taskbar thumbnails, or
increase the duration that you have to hover your mouse in order to... Read more

Taskbar List or Thumbnail Previews Mode --
How to Change Taskbar Thumbnail and List Mode Threshold in Windows 8.1?
Hello --
I am trying to figure out how to do something in Windows 8.1 that I was able to do in Windows 7, through the magic of a Registry entry made available by the Admin at SevenForums, Brink. (He wrote a program that would 'patch' the Registry, I believe, so that this behavior would take place.)
By default, the Windows 8.1 Taskbar will show thumbnail previews of open windows and programs when you hover the mouse pointer over it's Taskbar icon while using an 'Aero' theme.
When you are using a Basic or High Contrast theme, the Taskbar will only show a list of tabs (list mode) for the open windows and programs (ex: Internet Explorer) when you hover the mouse pointer over it's Taskbar icon, and never any thumbnail previews.
I would like to have my applications always LIST the tabs, or windows, that are open within them, when I hover on the app in the Taskbar of Windows 8.1.
Can someone please show me how to do this in Windows 8.1?
Thanks in advance,

I have had the Windows 7 32-bit RTM for just over a day and find the Aero Peak too slow to display the thumbnail images.

My computer is quick, with 2.2 Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8600m 256MB DDR3, so clearly my laptop isn't the problem. It takes about 1 second to display the thumbnails, I think that's way too slow.

2. Will changing the speed increase memory usage of Windows processes?

I believe this is a performance issue. I just moved to Windows 7 from Vista. Occassionally, the Office 2007 applications will not show a preview using Aero Peak. (This happened in Vista but of course without Aero Peek).

P.S. I cannot do a System Restore.

A:HELP! Cannot change taskbar color!!!! WIN7!!

1.  Your system dropped out of Aero and to what looks like the Windows 7 Basic theme.  If you did not choose this on purpose, then perhaps Aero has stopped working because of something you've installed, or something that's gone wrong.
Click Start, then type aero into the search box.  When
Find and fix problems with transparency and other effects comes up, click it, and go through the troubleshooter.

2.  If you cannot get a System Restore to complete, try this:  Reboot and press the F8 key just as the power on self test ends.  This should start the Advanced Boot Options screen, where you can go through the Repair Your Computer menu
item, ultimately to get to the System Recovery Options dialog.  System Restore from that dialog has a greater chance of succeeding.
Good luck.

I'd like to know if there is a way to move the system tray (notification icons) and system clock from their default fixed position opposite the start menu button. I've recently spent a good deal of time in linux country and have become somewhat attached to the relative freedom allowed in the placement of so-called 'panel' (taskbar) items, among other things. Basically, I would like to be able to move the system tray and clock over to the same side as the start button, similar to how one might move the 'toolbar' items- quick launch etc. - or individual taskbar items, as of windows 7 anyway. Of course, the clock and tray appear to be fixed, however I wondered if there might be a small app available, or a known registry hack. I would also be willing to look into the 'resource hacker' option, if someone could point me toward the file(s) responsible for the taskbar and or tray/clock, a solution I've found successful in the past for tweaking aspects of explorer.

I've tried a number of system clock replacements, but none provide any options for customization of placement, unfortunately, and I've had no luck on the system tray front. I've also looked into more complete taskbar replacement options, but have so far only found programs that seem to want to emulate the osx dock, rather than windows-like taskbar. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Right click on the taskbar then select Lock the Taskbar this will unlock the taskbar. Take your cursor on the taskbar and drag it to where you want it then right click on the taskbar again when you are satisfied on the position of the taskbar and click on Lock taskbar. You can also move the icons on the notification area where you want them in the area. Also the pinned apps right of the start orb.

When I have multiple windows belonging to the same program, mousing over them gives me a preview of each window. If there are too many, they a vertical list of the windows appears.

In Vista, I would only see the preview for the window I put my mouse over. A list would never come up.

Since I need to see the previews as quickly as possible and do not have the time to look at multiple ones or navigate through a list, I need a way to restore the Vista functionality where only one preview comes up - the one for the window I moused over.

Hi mkz. There is probably a better way, but this is the only way I know of.

You could always uncombine the buttons, so that when you open a window, you get a "Vista" type Taskbar button, each with its own button.

To do this:
Right click a blank area of your taskbar and click "Properties"

I've recently built my new pc with a Sapphire R9 390 before that i had the HD7750.

With the HD7750 i had a 2 monitor setup (eyefinity) and the taskbar going across 2 screens, when i hover over the taskbar i got a little thumbnail telling me what was in the window.

When i built my new pc, i still had 2 monitors and it done the same, hover over the icon in the taskbar and the thumbnail preview showed me what was in that window.

I then got my 3rd monitor, re-setup eyefinity and noticed that the taskbar preview disappears!

The thumbnail/icon changes based on size because the designer of the icon used different images to make those different sized icons. An icon is a collection of images bundled in a package, allows different icons based on size and color that is available for display.

I'm not sure if this is a windows issue, a screen resolution issue or what is going on. I use the windows 8.1 picture library like everyone else does -- to view and select certain photos for copying, moving or deleting. With my Yoga 2 pro, the extra large icons (thumbnails) are the same size as the large icons; too small to really see the picture. The only diggerence is that when viewing so-called extra large icons, there are only 4 per row instead of 11. These 4 are just separated by white space, not larger.  With the extra large icons I can not use my fingers to resize/zoom the page. How can get truly extra large thumbnails?  More information: I have my display set at "extra extra large", 250%. Thanks for your help.

A:Yoga 2 pro picture library thumbnail size problem

I have this problem exactly as you describe.  This is a big issue for me as I use extra large icons to select and tag photos.  Changing the screen resolution DOES NOT help this problem at all.  The only thing that has helped slightly is to use the magnifier tool to at least be able to see a little bit of detail in the pictures.  Has anyone seen a fix for this?

The thumbnails are a single frame of the video, therefore they always of the same ratio as the video file.

When I hover over a window in the taskbar, I only see words instead of a picture of the window; and I would like to change that. I have changed to an Aero Theme etc, but nothing is happening. I don't think I'm an admin on my computer. Please explain answers in layman's terms, I know nothing about computers.

Anyone know how to restore the taskbar thumbnail preview that was in IE8? I have the setting for "Show previews for individual tabs in the taskbar" set, but it only shows text when you hover over the IE icon in the taskbar, not the thumbnail view I prefer from IE8.
Is this anything to do with the Windows7 Aero settings?

Hello Andy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, you would have to be using a Aero theme to have thumbnail previews of the icons for opened windows on the taskbar.

Running Windows Ultimate 7 x64

I have had the problem a few of you have had with the thumbnail previews on the Superbar flickering when you mouse over the icon.

Its deeper than just the superbar screwing up. When this happens I cant highlight and play more than one song at a time with WMP .....

Have to minimize windows just to return to browser and switch back and forth to windows explorer...etc..etc.

I have to reboot my PC just to play a DVD folder or DVD disc.....

Power options dont work....(when to turn off monitor)

The problem started well into 6 months or more of using w7 so I knew it was a problem with either some software I installed or a Component problem.

I use Acronis for back-ups and have saved full back-ups of w7 that I know are non-problematic , so after restoring a good image on a freshly formatted partition.......the problem remained.

Tried all the obvious things like video drivers and all but still felt it was in the motherboard chipsets. Something had gotten corrupted or changed.

I have a Gigabyte MB and downloaded the drivers for w7, installed......still there. Tried north bridge and south bridge.

What I ended up doing was installing Windows XP x64 on a extra partition which allowed me to use my original installation disc for my motherboard and was able to individually install the drivers for both chips...and after the installation of the south bridge, the computer needed to reboot, at which time it went into a deep proce...
