P50 - overal experience

Q: P50 - overal experience

Hey, i just want to share with You with my experience with P50 - maybe if someone is not sure about buying this laptop this will help. Almost every thread here is about some problems, issues, complaining, so something nice for a contrast now. My specs:P50, i7-6820HQ, Quadro M2000M, 16GB ram (1x16GB, Samsung), AData SSD on M2 (original Intel was fried by me together with one of M2 ports - just remember to install any SSD in P50 chips down... ), FHD display, WWAN card. Quality of laptop. I can say nothing bad about build quality - plastics are nice, at least black (not like this weird gray/graphite Tx40 and up series), i must be lucky, because my palmrest and/or screen frame is not cracking (at least yet), and my Lenovo was rather heavy used... However i've bought P51 palmrest just in case if something will happen (i paid about 20USD with shipping, couldn't say no to this price)AT LEAST Lenovo decided to put into TP non-clickable touchpad - that was main thing that was stopping me from switching to newer Thinkpad from my old T420. Performance. It's just great - i'm using this computer as my daily driver and i like how versatile it is. Both gaming and work experience (of any kind) is really pretty good. I am amazed how silent this computer is, and how well it handles temperatures. However - when i need good battery life for example when i'm on univerity i can easily reach 7-8 hours of light use (like taking notes, working in SQL Server etc). This is fun to watch, when everybody in class looks desperately for power socket, and i'm still like 50% battery left on workstation class computer. Only few things that i can complain about are: keyboard backlight bleed when looking from too big angle (but this is common for all backlit ThinkPad keyboards) and screen, that could be just bit better (higher contrast, maybe bit brighter - this is sometimes issue when i'm in bright environment). (sorry for poor english)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.   HijackThis is not the preferred initial scanning tool in this forum. With today's malware, a more comprehensive set of logs is required to determine the presence of malware.   Scan with FRST in normal modePlease download Farbar's Recovery Scan Tool to your desktop:... This is a No Brainer, moving to 100mb is the easiest way by far! Since decent NIC's can be had for $12-15/ea, the cost isn't at all significant.

Hi there! I'm pretty new to this site, so I hope I'm posting in the correct section, and that I'm not breaking any posting rules. Nevertheless, here's the question:

Why on earth is my PC performance so horrible (most notably with gaming) after having it for such a short period? I've tried quite a bit to bring it back up to speed: Numerous Virus scans (all clean), SpyDoctor, Defrag, CC Cleaner, format, temperature checks, sending it in to Acer twice (for a different reason, see below, but they didn't come up with anything, just reinstalled OS) Windows and all graphics drivers are all (both) up to date!

I've had my notebook for less than a year now, and it's been a love-hate relationship from the start. Performance was amazing (I'll refer to gaming performance as a benchmark): could play Mirror's Edge, Oblivion and Unreal Tournament at fairly high resolutions, with near full settings (aside from AA), which I thought was pretty good for a laptop.

Then after a few months, it all started going downhill. First off, the laptop was placed on a bed duvet while it was on (long story), and after coming back from a two day trip, I found that it was off, probably automatic shutdown due to overheating. I say overheating, because when I started it up again, the notebook booted up fine (Vista 32bit) until I logged in, where the little welcome sound just hung (repeatedly making the same noise) until it went to desktop, where the mouse curso... Hello,

Thanks for reading me. I havea delle vostro laptop.
A friend of mine came back from travel with all usb sticks and memeory cards infected by AdobeR / Autorun Worm.
I kindly proposed to disinfect it all since I had gone through the whole procedure already.
While cleaning it turned out, as avast warning wrote, that other malwares were on those drives, namely Win32:Cekar ; Win32:Autorun-AIP and VBS:Malware-gen
After cleaning with a removal tool in safe mode, I rebooted in normal mode, to realize that my audioplayback from sigmatel card was really stuttering. It is not a specific device problem because my bluetooth headset and my external firewire sound card exhibit the same stuttering behavior, whatever program I use to play music.

This really seems like a mlaware of some kind, have you already experienced such problems ? Any advice ?
Thanks a LOT in advance, best

I have been really interersted in the potential of 64-bit Windows and decided to take the plunge after reading much in mags and on the internet (including here). I built the system described in my signature, specifically selecting all hardware to make sure there was plenty of evidence from forums like this and customer hardware reviews (like at newegg.com and cnet.com) that what I select works well in the 64-bit environment.

After I had everything ordered, I went to the manufacturers web site and downloaded the latest bios, drivers and sofware directly from them and burned them to CDs. This has the added benefit of not accidentially installing bloat-ware from the CDs included with the hardware. I did have to redo my CD when Intel released a new bios and RAID driver while I was waiting for the last of the hardware to arrive.

The first attempt at installing the OS went bad early on because I didn't follow my own procedure and tried to install my house printer (on my local network) with the HP install disk. The driver didn't install and left me where I couldn't uninstall it. At the same time (related?) a Windows Defender DLL, MyRgMon, died and I couldn't figure out how to fix it without starting over, so...

Starting over, I installed the OS, then installed the motherboard chipset drivers and other important m/b drivers, like for the LAN. Then came the drivers for the video and sound, all the while rebooting Vista whenever it wanted to. I found on the HP website that the on... Read more

Good to hear it went well after the first try. When dealing with a new OS I've never had good luck on the very first install... I ususally call that the trial install as I figure I'll pick a wrong update, setting or install option that makes me need to do a reinstall, lol.

Could you tell me what fix you did to fix the Windows update error?... I ran into that, but didn't care much so I didn't research it... thanks.

Hello new guy here

I couldn't really find a suitable place to put this so iv'e placed it here sorry if it's in the wrong section.

EDIT: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and before i updated i had a custom theme which meant i had to patch the system files. i never replaced the patched ones to the original ones before i updated, maybe thats the cause?

Anyways about 30 mins ago i downloaded and installed around 4-6 windows updates
ioncluding the Windows 7 SP! Update.
Once it restarted i'm experincing a couple of small problems like when you click the left mouse button and drag, it's normally blue right? well mine is no longer blue its a dotted white line.

Picture Here

Also when i drag a window it is in a solid white line

Picture Here

My Taskbar is also set to autohide which isn't doing what it usually does (can't really get a picture of it but whn you hover on the side where the taskbar is i remember it had a kind of animation (slide out/in) now it just appears and disappears without the animation.

Sorry if that was long and i know there minor things but damn there annoying me so much lol

Thanks for reading and i hope someone here knows whats wrong

Kennedy

A:Anyone Else Experience...

Sounds like elements of the custom themes are still holding on.
This may fix it.

After that is done go into control panel - system - advanced system settings - performance settings and set to best appearance.

List of issues1. Price of laptop dropped almost 1200 the week after it was ordered and agreed to concessions not received.2. Laptop double boots every time and takes 1 1/2 minutes, minimum, to boot.3. Trackpoint freezes and requires a hard reboot to regain functionality.4. Pop through speakers5. Garbage flashing across screen at boot.6. Hinge lets lcd drop if screen is tilted more than 30 degrees Those are the issues I had. A further explanation is below. I'm going to start at the beginning. I purchased my first IBM server in 1988 and have been a loyal IBM, and then Lenovo customer. All of the machines in my office are Lenovo except for the IBM server I purchased in 2012. If my friends ask what to buy I always say Lenovo. I've been very excited about the p70 since it was first announced last summer and ordered one on February 2nd. Here's my experience.    One week after I ordered my p70, and before it shipped, the price dropped almost 1200.00. I called my rep and between her and the supervisor they agreed to cancel the order and I could reorder. Her supervisor called and told me if the order couldn't be canceled they would make it right. Well the order didn't get canceled, only the expedited shipping and warranty were canceled. I called back and after several emails, calls, etc on February 12 I got a notice that I was getting a credit for 528.70. I called several times and emailed several times and finally on March 8th got a notice that I was getting the rem... Read more

A:My p70 experience

Sorry to hear this story.  It makes me cringe.  I know you were really looking forward to owning a P70. I was talking to my cousin last December, raving about the awesome specs of the upcoming P50.  He, like me, has long been a fan of the ThinkPad.  He has worked in IT for a couple of large corporations, which also  purchased plenty of ThinkPads. But this time he looked at me and shook his head.  Those companies have stopped buying from Lenovo and so has he.  He warned me that things have really changed since the days of my T43p and my W500 (the latter my daily workhorse and the former a good backup). But I figured, with those specs, how could the P50 be so bad?  So I came to these forums to watch for the P50 release. As much as I wanted one, I'm glad that I held back.  I cannot believe the number of problems.  And it's not just the major issues repeated on every machine (most of which Lenovo says they are working on).  It's also the many random issues and apparent incompatibilities that keep popping up for new users. What does this say for the longevity of these machines?  Will they last for years like my previous ThinkPads?  I certainly have my doubts. And customer service should at least come to the rescue when you are in trouble -- not be the cause of even more frustration. I have stayed here, hoping that things would improve.  But how many of the long list of original... Hi,

This is going to be a big story, nay rant but if you want to read it go ahead.

I made my own custom PC in late 06' basically being my setup now. It started off working well but now I think of it have had graphics problems and problems in general every since. After upgrading the video card after a very brief time and buying a new one, I didn't really consider the problem transferring over.

Then a period of frequent shop visits were starting to begin. Firstly my motherboard died and then my PSU was faulty. I was at school and didn't have time to not own a computer for the 3-5 weeks it takes to get the equipment back from warranty so I had to replace it. That being a worse motherboard to save money and a new, better power supply. This time I chose Corsair not Thermaltake as I wanted a high quality piece, especially considering it could have been partly the PSU's fault my motherboard died.

Then... months later booting started to fail, I sent it back to the repair shop and they told me the PSU was faulty again. Offering to replace it, I sent it in for warranty while using an old PSU for the time being. I got it back a month later all new in package, reinstalled it and is my current PSU now.

While this was happening I upgraded to an Gigabyte ATI 4850 and kept having screen flickering issues. Now I attributed this to the drivers at first, so I reinstalled, found older versions etc but nothing seemed to work. I ended up reformatting my PC for a fresh install of... Read more

Well just recieved my copy of Win 7 Home Premium Friday. , So I decided to give it a try. I loaded it on an extra 160 gig drive I had so I would not ruin my XP64Pro install.

It loaded well, installed some programs that I had a hard time loading onto xp64 system. The GUI looks great, loads fast, works well, right until I wanted to share with my already running home network.

I have 2 other computers runing xp pro, one is my hometheatre pc, and then a Vantec NAS drive. Connecting to these is very flakey at best. I can sometimes get a connection and sometimes not.

So I have reverted back to my XP64Pro boot drive, I'm going to put together another system I have to run the Win 7 on and study these forums and when I can get Win 7 networking on my network, then I will try it on my main system.

Just thought I'd share this with you.

I'm looking for advice from anyone in the programming field. I'm going to be graduating in about a year. I've taken classes in VB, Java, and C++. And I'm most comfortable with VB, as I do some programs when I'm at home. However, I always hear horror stories about how hard it is to get into the field, and how once you have a job if you get behind on a project you're probably going to get fired. Makes it seem like there is no job security. I've never worked in the computer industry, the most I've done is fixing odd jobs for anyone I know (virus', printers, spyware, etc). But when I think about graduating and going out in the field I'm very apprehensive. What can I look forward to, or what should I know about the industry. Thanks to anyone who replies, hopefully it will calm my fears.

A:anyone have experience?

Relax mate. You are too anxious. This field is competitive, but bear in mind that every one cannot become Bill Gate$ (on is enough. If there are more, this would be almost a hell!!).

I have a few relatives working in this field and they are fairly succeeful and have secure jobs. Also, to be more successful, you must learn more things. VB, Java and C++ are fine, but you need to learn a lot more of the current things like PHP, ASP, .net, etc. There are a lot of other things. Don't sit on your laurels, keep moving ahead and you will surely be successful.

All the best.

I wonder if anyone has had experience with kde for Win 8, and if so, what conclusions? I have been using the kde desktop on Linux for some years, and I like it. I installed the 4.8.00 version of kde for Win some time back on my
Win 7 machine. It did not create a desktop, but it did add a number of kde apps which are very handy. And some which would be handy if they worked! (Specifically, KSnapshot--when it worked on Linux, it beat the Snipping Tool all to pieces. Unfortunately, it is now only partially functional in Linux.) Anyway, the others that I would miss are Dolphin (file manager) Folders--file finder, KPatience Solitaire, and Kate, an editor.
But the kde version that seems to be available for Win 8 would present a whole desktop. I presently have the freebie ClassicShell installed, making the desktop look and work like Win 7. I would not like to lose that capability.
(No, I don't like or want the "normal" Metro desktop. What a piece of crap!)
So--comments, please.

Your difficulties arent unique. SP-1 seems flawed atm. There is a pre download procedure, and often people have to re-install some of the earlier updates.

Because of the failed components on this new computer (less than 6 mos old) and the fact that the so-called power seller on eBay imaged the OS without following EULA, she started receiving the infamous "you may have become a victim of software piracy"...or something like that, I purchased a new sealed from Microsoft Win7 Home Premium x64. The eBay seller has a 100% rating and I've had communication with him.

Don't mean to be wordy but you have to know this background. Everything finally arrived and I grabbed all the parts and went to a big computer repair shop I know and literally gave them everything that had just arrived in the various unopened packages/boxes.The repair shop manager has given me a confirmation of the fact that he received everything sealed and unopened. He gave everything to his repairman and I left for 4 hours. When I returned I was told that someone had stripped the Windows Product Key off of the envelope that housed the OS...the one that proves the genuineness of the software.

Now the computer was still on the work bench and was up and running. It was running in Win 7. I used Macrium Reflect to image her system and had given them that peripheral backup so I assumed they had somehow used it (they are Spanish and my Spanis... Read more

I have Windows Vista Business (in the home setting, so I am the admin), on the HP Pavilion dv5230us. My experience index for Gaming Graphics is 3.0, but my number for desktop graphics is 2.6 (which is the lowest of all my scores). I need at least a 3.0 to play Halo 2: Vista. I am wondering, since the gaming graphics are a 3.0, if I would be able to override the block on Playing Halo 2. Thanks in advance!

A:Experience Index

AFAIK you can't "fool" the experience rating in Vista. But continue to research this as I suspect others will be looking to do this also. I've been playing Halo 2 for Vista and am not all that impressed by it.

Hello, I have a couple questions.
I understand enough tech lingo in shopping for a laptop but I wanted to get some opinions on the different name brands. What has been your experience? Is the name all hype?

Since computers are ubiquitous nowadays would the saying "you get what your pay for" apply to a laptop costing less than $500 that holds enough hard drive space and memory to simple tasks for non-techie user?

Consider an extended warrany?
Thanks for any feedback.

Hopefully you made a drive image of your old WIN7 system before the "upgrade" and can back up any recently created documents and then restore that drive image to your system. You didn't give any system specs but I suspect that your laptop may have had some age on it before the switch. Most of those who have switched have reported increased speed and performance as one of the few positives of the experience. That depends entirely upon the system hardware and memory resources of the machine in question

Do you have a relatively slow internet connection? This could be part of the problem as MS is reportedly using the user's internet connection to "share" updates and patches in a sort of "bittorent" manner to distribute these packages to the wider user base.

I have remained with WIN7 Ultimate on all of my personal systems, but many of my clients have been "tricked" into the "upgrade" so I have set up a virtual machine with WIN10 to glean as much information and experience as possible to be able to assist when required. It has become one of my most frequent tasks of late in the last 7 months since the public rollout. This is especially true in the last 2... Read more

Well, we just bit the bullet and installed service pack 2 with 'fatal' results. We couldn't get into normal or safe mode, last known good didn't work of course. We had made a back up before proceeding so nothing is lost other than a few hours of work.

But this has made me curious what other people's experiences are with the super-patch.

So, if you have installed how has it gone and how would you rate the results from 1-10 with 1 being very very bad

I have had the worst experience with Lenovo.  I sent my Y50-70 in to be serviced becasue of a broken hinge.  The repair is supposed to take up to 10 business days.  Long story short, the repair center I sent it to went back and forth between "we don't have the part and it should be here tomorrow" and "we got the part and it should be repaired in 7-9 business days".  I still don't have the original laptop and there was a laptop I agreed to accept that was sent then returned after one delivery attempt.  This saga has been going (and is still going) on for roughly 40 calendar days now.  To say I'm frustrated is an understatement.  I cannot find a phone number to call and the case manager I've been assigned to does not return emails or phone calls.  I'm trying to figure out what to do and am almost at a loss.  I honestly will think twice about Lenovo when my kid needs a computer/laptop.  This is ridiculous.

I watched a video clip yesterday that told how easy it is for a hacker to set up a bogus wireless network in a public place (Starbucks was the example that was used in this clip) and then have users mistakenly log into it and allow the hacker to view their online activity. They mentioned a free program (VPNBook) that allows you to create a Virtual Private Network with your wireless device so that if you happen to accidentally connect to a hacker's bogus network, all they will see is encrypted data (i.e., garbage) on their monitor. Sounded like a great idea, so I went to the VPNBook web site to check it out. Here is how they describe their product:

Our Free VPN (Virtual Private Network) server is designed with the latest technologies and most advanced cryptographic techniques to keep you safe on the internet from prying eyes and hackers. Our VPN securely routing all your internet traffic through an encrypted tunnel to bypass government censorship, defeat corporate surveillance and monitoring by your ISP. VPNBook strives to keep the internet a safe and free place by providing free and secure PPTP and OpenVPN service access for everyone.

I must admit that I am not much of an expert on security programs like this, but to me it sounds like you are not only running software on your wireless device, but you are also making use of the VPNBook servers to encrypt and route your online data. This makes me wonder why they are offering all of this for free. Do any of you hav... Read more

A:Does Anyone Have Experience with VPNBook

You connect with your laptop, table, smarphone, ... via a VPN tunnel to their servers. This tunnel is encrypted, so the content can not be read.
All your network connections (like accessing webservers) are send through the VPN tunnel to their servers (encrypted), where it is then forwarded to the servers you want to access (like the webservers I mentioned). This part is not encrypted, unless you use an encrypted protocol like HTTPS.

They claim they are offering this service for free:

This service is Advertisement and Donation based, if you enjoy this service, please consider donating so we can keep this as a free service and add more servers in the future.

And they also offer a paid service.

They also say their Euro servers are based in Romania, saying it is one of the best locations for privacy. I doubt that, I would do more research to validate this claim.

Hello,

I inherited a windows Vista desktop from my mom which I think may have a virus on it. I can not get it to connect to my home network via Cat 5 I've  tried a Static IP.  I'm interested in maybe purchasing windows 10 from Best Buy,  for $120.00 (some extra money I have laying around from my birthday and other holidays) I was thinking it may be a good learning experience. putting windows 10 on it? It does meet the windows 10 requirments

Please offer your thoughts or opinion's

A:A learning experience

Win 7, which replaced Vista, was launched in the Autumn of 2009 so this computer is getting on for at least seven years old which is a factor you should consider. Also by how much does it meet the minimum requirements for Win 10 ?  According to MS the minima are a 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, MS has always taken an optimistic view of 'minimum requirements'. I recently had my hands on a notebook with Win 10 and that met these minimum requirements - would you believe 10 minutes to boot and five minutes to open Firefox ?

Realistically you need about a 2GHz processor and at least 2GB of RAM, 4 is better.

What makes you think the computer is suffering malware ?  Very few forms of malware knock out internet connections, they want to phone home. Have you checked device manager to see if it shows any hardware problems, particularly with network adaptors ?

Hi everybody...
I found this place a few days ago,and I think there are some very clever guys here that give great advice.
I would like to tell about my set up.
My experience with security on the internet,is based on 6 years use of a computer.
I think many people today don't realize just how much s*** there is outthere.
One of the first things I found out (after loosing a couple of computers),was that although you are behind a NAT router, its definitely not enough to use Windows "firewall".
Its almost certain, that sooner or later you will get a trojan downloader, etc into your machine (it WILL happened) ,and then the trojan can communicate with whoever.Because the Windows "firewall" only "protect" against inbound data. Clever eh?
Another thing I have noticed is,that although you have some of the best Antispy protection (Spysweeper etc) you will need a malware scanner, like Ewido too.
My set up as it is today is:Kaspersky Security Suite,Spysweeper, and the Ewido scanner. As I see it,these tools are totally necessary...all of them.
I know my "weak" point here would be the Kaspersky firewall, but until now,it has been excellent. But I guess Outpost Pro would be a hair better, and if I didn't have the NAT router,I would use that one,or Zonealarm Pro.(I have not used time on the Antispam feature in K?s suite because I have almost zero spam.
A good recommendation from me, would be to get the Ewido scanner as soon as possible. The Ewido is p... Read more

I wished that I found this forum before, but I have probably broken all of the rules of common sense already. I got sick and tired of my amazingly slow computer so in desperation I checked out Reg Cure and its"free" scan. Download went fine and they found about 585 "problems". Of course that is where they get you and before they would fix anything you had to register...which meant you had to buy their products on line for $29.95. Against my better judgement I clicked on buy and went for it. Installation went fine and it was easy to use. I did the scan and then proceeded to "fix" everything. The net result was barely noticeable in the performance of my computer. But the real irritating thing is an hour later I get a e-mail stating that I could buy the software for $19.95 instead of the $29.95 that I already paid!
Of course there is no e-mail address on their site to contact them to raise some hell about that or to get a reduction on my charges...or to tell them how little it did to fix my computer either. Just a snail mail address up in Canada. Live an learn the hard way I guess. In the meantime my computer is slowing down more and more. I have done virus checks SPY BOT checks (really slow) scanned files, and defragged the hard drives and tossed temp files and cookies. I have Windows 2000 (updated) as a OS and consider just reloading the OS to try and get everything back in line again. Any more suggestions?
Thanks for any hints.

Unfortunately you have found out why "we" do not recommend running a Registry Cleaner a solution to any problem.
And, why we always raise red flags, when someone brings up the subject. These programs are really for "experts" only, and they are starting to become "snake oil" progams a la Memory Managers.

In your case, I would recommend that you download, install and run HiJackThis whcih will show all of the things that initiate when you boot up the PC.

Choose Scan System. then Save a Logfile
When the LOG file opens in Notepad, Select All, Copy then return here, and Paste the contents into a Reply Post, and wait for directions.

** I have also asked that your post be moved to it's own thread to make it easier to follow.

A question, if I were to run this program, would it delete all my stuff and start up brand new without saving anything on my file? It leaves whatever you have on the machine data wise, but it removes the SID's, the unique identifiers, and resets the box taking you though a mini-setup, making you agree to licensing terms and making you activate the product.

I just set up a Promise NS2300n NAS drive with two WD 500GB 3.0SATA drives. We initially set them up as raid 1 on the network. Each computer in the network has shortcuts to certain files on the drive. When I take out one of the drives all shortcuts are lost, even when the drive is shut down. I have two questions.

1. is this aviodable with the current raid 1 set up I have?

2. Is this NAS drive capable of not being set up with raid at all? This way to use the "one touch backup" option that it offers.

Thanks people. Im in a pinch.

I've been using it for awhile. I've used 98lite for years and it was fantastic for older machines with little disk space.

My computer is already fast so basically I was just trying to get rid of alot of XP junk (I have XP PRO under 1.5gb))...at first I noticed a small difference by after a few days of running my normal apps I could tell it helped alot.

After upgrading on my Dell Inspiron 3647, the installation removed "Dell back-up & recovery", and "My Dell".
Also the "Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth suite 64", saying that these apps are dangerous to the PC, and not compatible! And yet the Bluetooth works just fine?
I went on to Dell product support, but didn't see a way to replace them with Win 10 versions. The computer is out of warranty..
I upgraded 2 laptops to Win 10, neither are Dell, and it was pretty painless!
But with the Dell, I ran into a major problem that I was able to get around. The 3647 is my living room computer connected to a large flat panel older plasma HD TV using the PC input, not HDMI.
I never had a problem doing window updates in the past when the computer had to restart to finish the installation.
But during the upgrade, up until this time was fine, until the first restart.. The display never returned on the TV, and I had no idea what was going on! I ran, and got a small computer monitor, and plugged that into the 3647, nothing! I had no choice, but to do a forced shutdown.
I thought for sure that was the end, until I started it and to my surprise, I had video again, and it was restoring the computer back to my previous OS!
Apparently, after the first restart, the driver that was needed by the TV, was longer available.
The upgrade at this point, let me retry the Win 10 installation using the small monitor, and everything went as expecte... Read more

Hi! Here's what I've got:

HP m8034n:
Vista Ultimate 32-Bit
AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+
3 GB RAM
400 GB HDD
nvidia geforce 6150SE/nforce 430 (yeah yeah i know)

This computer originally came with 2 gigs of ram , but it was a little sluggish because vista eats ram like kirstie alley eats pie. The included ram was PC2-4200. The extra gig was PC2-5300, but of course operates at the speed of the slower ram...

my question is, after the ram was installed and detected (today)...my vista experience index went down in 3 places!

Memory went from 5.9 to 4.5
Gaming Graphics went from 3.0 to 2.5
Aero Graphics went from 3.4 to 2.5

The brand of the ram was super talent, got it from newegg. I just find it very weird and was wondering if this is just vista being vista or something new memory did. Thanks, and nice forums ya got here!
