Q: Inspiron 13.3 7000 2 in 1 touch laptop and microphone

Can you hook up and external microphone to a 2 in 1 laptop- Inspiron 13.3 7000 touch? does it hook into the audio? is the audio a mixed combo?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Carol,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Yes, you can connect the microphone to the computer and the operating system should detect, when it is connected. If there is any issues, request you to please test this microphone on another system to test its functionality. If it is working fine, please uninstall the audio driver. Please use this link http://dell.to/1n3X2po, enter the service tag of the system and click on drivers & downloads. Select the operating system, download the audio driver and install on the system. Then connect the microphone and test, you may also right click on the sound icon on the system tray at the bottom right. Click on recording devices, ensure the jack mic is set as the default device. If it is not set, you may right click on it and then set it to default.
Kindly get back if there are any further queries.

Hi all, I hope you can help me here.
I have bought a Laptop Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series an year ago, and almost 2 months ago, sometimes the tablet mode did not work so well as while turning it back to laptop (by turning the screen), it stays in tablet mode. Never mind i managed to continue using and disabling the automatic mode change. However last week stopped working at all, and now i see that the touch screen is not respoinding either, even when you touch it you would see that is reacting but now nothing.
I tried to reinstall Windows 10, check drivers, uninstall them are reinistalling but  ( not able to take out the battery as is not possible in this model) and still is not working.

Can you please help?

Thanks for helping me..

A:Laptop Inspiron 15 7000 Series - Touch Screen Stop Working

Look in the control panel under Pen and Touch.  If you don't see a touchscreen listed, it may be the connection has come loose or the cable is damaged -- you'll need to remove the base cover and check the connection between the screen and mainboard.
The service manual you need depends on the model you have - is it  a 7778, 7737, 7779 etc.)?

Had to disable touch screen.  Round circles showing up on screen and programs jumping all over the place.  Anyone know of a fix.

A:Inspiron 13 7000 touch screen

With bobwillis1 replacing the touchscreen did the trick. If none of the steps that I suggested earlier worked you may consider having the touchscreen replaced.  If you are in the US and the system is still under warranty I may be able to help.  Stoens I will be sending you a friend request shortly.   If you are out of the US I suggest contacting tech support in your area for further assistance.

Does anybody have an idea how to fix it / whats the best way to access the damaged cable?
Thanks in advance!
Most expensive laptop i ever had, worst build quality i ever had, most problems i ever had. I am very disappointed in Dell.

Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with the Realtek microphone in Skype.
The symptoms are as follows:
Shortly after beginning of the conversation the other party cannot hear my voice. Video is fine, the voice of the other party is also fine.
When this happens the microphone green bar in Options/audio settings will not be seen when speaking into it.
However I can hear what's spoken into the microphone in the local speakers.
I uninstalled the microphone in manager, re-installed the driver, did not help.
Uninstalled the Realtek hi-def audio driver. This helped first but then after 4 minutes talking the problem returned again.
I can see that when this happens the speaker icon in
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\manage audio devices\recording\microphone\microphone properties\levels
is crossed out. If I uncross it and put boost and level above zero the other party can hear me again.
This happens spontaneously, by itself. Even without Skype running, so this is why I think it might be a driver problem.
Any ideas? (please no "reinstalled driver" advice - has done so multiple times)

I purchased my computer and all my software with Dell. I purchased an Inspiron 7000, 17" Laptop, with premium support, accidental Damage, max warranty,  Microsoft Office Suit, and Adobe Photoshop  with Elements 13.  The first "version" of my computer was working 100% perfect with no problems. It got accidentally knocked off the table and the prong inside the computer got bent. The power cord couldn't properly charge the computer anymore. I called Dell to have them fix ONLY the power cord and prong, nothing else was wrong with my computer. I got a phone call from Dell about a week after I turned my computer in. They said the repair is taking longer than the expected. I asked why, they said because they are waiting to located at another facility a part for my harddrive.  I was shocked when they said anything about my harddrive nothing was wrong with it and I did not turn my computer in to have the harddrive fixed. They brushed it off never gave me any reason why they were even touching my harddrive!!  After several phone calls/ time / and headache later they offered to send me a refurbished computer 2 months later. That was the best they could do because they could not locate the part they needed for my harddrive.
(Keep in mind my computer "type" is still active on Dells website and is Dells #1 best selling computer, How do they not have the part??!!!
I received my refurbished computer. It was another nightmare calling... Read more

My Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop will just die on me, even if I am actively engaged in a program or even while I am typing in a text-based program. The screen will go black, and no key can get a response, although the green power light stays on. Often, I will have to push and hold the power button until it goes OFF, then re-start the laptop - with the resultant Scan Disk each time.

Occasionally, after such a shut-down, the computer will not re-start until numerous attempts are made.

I have called tech service numerous times and even sent the unit in twice - to no avail. The last time, Dell updated my BIOS, but the problem persists.

If you know of a solution, please help!

Hey all!

When leaving the room where my Inspiron is, I will often leave the screen open and the laptop will go to sleep and the screen will turn off like it is supposed to. However, after leaving the room and returning about ten to fifteen minutes later, I find that the screen has turned on and the camera is actively taking pictures trying to use the facial recognition function. I don't know how long the camera was actively taking pictures but when I felt the camera, it was incredibly hot, suggesting that the camera had been taking pictures for a while and draining a good amount of battery. This has happened on numerous occasions and I enjoy the liberty of not having to close my computer down every time it is not in immediate use. I was wondering if there was some way to prevent this from happening other than just always closing the screen when the computer is not in use.

I just bought a new laptop a few days ago (no exact model, but it's the 17" 7000 series model, and it has a $999.99 MSRP) and while listening to music, I noticed the bass output is very weak to non-existent. I tried playing with every single setting in Dell Audio/MaxxAudio control panel but to no avail. Even tried reinstalling the Realtek Audio Driver, again solved nothing. My headphones work just fine as I tested them on my other devices and am getting bass output with them.
Any help would be appreciated. I really love this model, but I hope I am not looking at a manufacturing defect. The other aspects of the audio sounds fine otherwise, just lacking bass that would make my music enjoyable since the majority of music I listen to has a lot of bass.

A:New Inspiron 17 7000 series laptop has no bass when using headphones

Hello. Test the driver by switching from the Realtek audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If the bass is lacking with both drivers, and if you try different brands of headphones, then probably a hardware issue because the odds are so high against both drivers having the same issue at the same time.

i wanted to know is there room for a HDD since the 256GB SSD isnt enough for me because i see one screw at the back of the laptop and am tempted to open it but i want to know if there is room for a HDD before thanks
The HDD i had in mind was either a 1TB 5400 RPM HDD or 1TB 7200 RPM HDD if there is room for a HDD will it support 1TB 7200 RPM ?
What about 500GB 5400 RPM HDD and 500GB 7200 RPM HDD
Please help me answer these 3 questions

A:Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming Laptop IS THERE ROOM FOR HDD ?

Open the base cover to see what's installed - it could be an M.2 SSD (card drive) in which case the system will take a 2.5" hard drive.
It could equally well be a 2.5" SSD - in which case the additional drive would need to be an M.2 SSD (the system has space for just one 2.5" drive).

I purchased the Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop 1-1/2 weeks ago at Best Buy. The salesperson had me buy a VGA to USB adapter and suggested I plug it directly into the USB port and not through the USB hub I also bought. However, I cannot get the monitor to work. The computer is running Windows 10. The display shows 3 monitors (I also have a monitor on the HDMI port) but the settings for the Dell are greyed out. On other computers, shutting the laptop cover allowed the use of two external monitors, but I haven't been able to get this to work. Even unplugging the HDMI monitor doesn't allow the Dell monitor to display. Does this monitor work on the newer laptops? If so, what else can I try? And am I limited to two monitors on Win10 with this computer?

Hi,I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series laptop around about November time last year, and after a BIOS update a couple months ago or so it now will randomly go to a black screen, but the backlight is still on. The BIOS update being near the time that this began to happen may be a coincidence, but it was the only real change during this period. On this black screen, I have no cursor and none of the buttons on my keyboard do anything. The only solution I've found is to hold in the power button to shut the whole system down.
There doesn't seem to be a particular pattern as to when this problem occurs, it will just randomly go black.
This has happened around about 6/7 times in the past few months. All the events did occur late at night though (past midnight). However, this could just be because I usually sit on my laptop longer at night time, and therefore that increases the chances of it happening.
Due to many "Black Screen Crashing" problems with Windows 10 - that aren't the same as my problem - a google search did not help.
System Specs are as follows:
System Model Inspiron 7559
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Ram - 8GB
Graphics Card - GeForce GTX 960m

A:Black Screen with Backlight Still On - Dell Inspiron 15, 7000 Series Laptop

Try system diagnostics to see if it finds any problem in the components:

Press F12 after power on
Select diagnostics.

You can also check Windows Event Viewer for any error message that was logged when the black screen crash happened.

Hi there,

I'm getting used to my new Dell Inspiror 15R laptop and am wanting to record some audio tracks that I can then upload to soundcloud and/or youtube.  I see a jack for headphones on the side of the computer but I do not see a mic.  Is there one built into the computer?  Or do I need to buy a microphone?  Could I do voice recording with a headset (like the kind you'd skype with)?  Did my computer come with software built in with which I can record and edit my audio tracks?

A:How do I record voice on my Dell Inspiron non-touch 15R laptop?

Hello. There are about 4 different models that Dell has sold under the generic name of Inspiron 15R so if you need more help please include the full model name of the laptop and the name of your operating system.
All of the current Dell laptops have built in mics. To set it up, right click on the audio icon on the taskbar (or if you have Windows 8 you might have to first get to the desktop, I'm not sure), then click on "Recording devices". The Sound properties will open on the Recording tab. Find the internal mic in the list and right click on it, then click on "enable", then on "set as default device".
Optionally, while the internal mic is still selected (highlighted), click on "Properties", then on the Levels tab. That is where you set the volume level for the mic.
As for recording software, there is most probably only Windows Sound Recorder which is pretty bare bones. You can use it to test the mic. To open it, type Sound recorder into the search box.
For serious recording and editing you should buy a graphical audio recording program, or get the free program Audacity. Just google Audacity.
Regarding the external jack: if there is only one jack on the case of the laptop then you have one of the models with a "combo" jack. That kind of jack will not support a regular computer mic. Combo jacks work with smart phone type of headsets, that combine a mic and a headphones into a single plug. You can tell if you have that ki... Read more

I've had this machine about about a week, so far I really like it.  Can't say yet that I love it yet, but it does what I need it to and the price is better than a tablet with the same functions and already has a keyboard.  This machine is kept in a padded case when not used in my desk drawer it does not bounce around in my briefcase etc.
This morning the left button on the touch pad does not work.  At first glance it sort of looks like it is caught on something or stuck, the right button works great a broken switch under the button is also possible but this thing doesn't move at all I'd think a switch would still move just not contact properly inside.  I need my machine and I've made a couple of upgrades like a SSD for the stock hard drive and a 8 gig ram chip, I am not thrilled about pulling those components in order to return for warranty replacement etc. as I'm pretty sure you won't be returning the same machine I sent in.  I'm considering pulling it apart to see if it is indeed stuck so it can be pushed back out from the inside but if this is a common issue with this machine I'd like to know that...
Can I be sent a new touch pad component, I believe I saw this is a separate board that attaches to the motherboard with a ribbon cable?  I'm not afraid of this procedure myself as I've been building desktops since the 90's and this is a really simple hardware to work on from the looks o... A:New week old Inspiron 11 3000 3558 (touch) stuck or broken button on touch pad--warranty parts replacement?

This is an fyi about the final resolution of this issue.  After a lot of arguing dell sent me what was supposed to be the touchpad but what I got was only the plastic palmrest no touchpad. Then because it's a "daughter card" I got more argument about the touchpad.  I got hot enough that I opened up the back, lifted out the battery, took out the two funky looking screws and the whole pad just fell right out of the machine.  The buttons seemed fine so I screwed it back down, put the battery back in and closed it up.  It's now great, the button was indeed hung up on the edge of the plastic palmrest.  This is a very well designed inside machine, it all screws down and all connections are with plugs or ribbon cables.  I wrote back to dell and told them they need to fire their tech manual writers because they're idiots, a monkey could have done this.  Apparently it is not easy to find only the mouse pad it's generally sold with the palmrest from what I can tell.  This whole machine is so well designed I scratch my head why the cpu isn't socketed unless they decided there was no room for a socket etc, which I can see that argument.  So if your mouse pad quits try popping it out first it may just be hung up.

I just purchased a new Inspiron 17 7000 a few days ago and I'm experiencing issues. Windows appears to be fully up to date but I'm having programs freeze and crash already such as Chrome. Battery seems to also be draining quite fast despite running at 50% brightness always.
Just looking to get some insight as to what I should be looking to resolve this and have optimal performance. It's a little disappointing to spend $1500 CAD +tax on a new laptop and already having issues, but it could very well be some drivers or a required update.
If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it!

I bought this directly from dell back in JAN of 15 and am now getting error messages stating that I need to plug in the correct ac adapter to charge. It recognizes that A charger is plugged in but not that it is THE charger that came with the laptop. very discouraging that I have had this laptop less than 2 years, have taken great care of it only for it to have this issue. Any ideas on what I can do to fix it without having to purchase another one? We are a Military family and money doesn't come cheap!

A:Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1

Hi JeePTJGrrL,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check for issue resolution.

In addition, I would suggest you to update the BIOS on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS from BIOS section onto the system and install it.
Also, we will have to check the status of the adapter in BIOS; if the adapter is not detected properly the system will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly.

Start the computer by pressing the power button.
Press the F2 key 2-3 times you will now be on the BIOS screen.
Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in.
Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.
Also, I would suggest you to run a thorough test on the battery. You can download Support assist from the link below and run the PC CHECKUP on Battery to check for issues

Please let me know the findings.

I purchased this configuration and wonder if it can be upgraded to 32GB RAM:

Inspiron 13 7000 Series (Intel) - 7378
7th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U Processor
16GB Single Channel DDR4 2400MHz (16GBx1)

The service manual @
The Inspiron 13-7378 has two SODIMM (RAM) slots, which are accessible by removing the base cover.
So, there are two slots: one is occupied with a 16GB SODIMM and the second is empty.
The manual also says
Your computer supports 4 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, and 16 GB dual-channel DDR4 memory of up to 2133 MHz.
I read this as "16GB DDR4 memory can be used." But, I wonder if Dell means "the total capacity of the computer is 16GB."
According to
the CPU supports up to 32GB RAM.
Question: has anyone installed a second 16GB SODIMM, to increase the notebook's memory to 32GB?

Can I downgrade my OS to windows 7?

I'm currently in Windows 10 and my drive D is missing, I already restore my Laptop but still missing re scan the disc nothing also happens. Windows 10 is a mess.

A:Dell Inspiron 14 7000

What is your D drive?  A flash drive or external hard drive?
Downgrading to WIndows 7 may or may not be possible - - if the system is new and has a 7th generation CPU, it's not an option -- these support only Windows 10 -- and downgrading the OS isn't likely to solve the problem of your missing drive (you may create a big mess that is even worse than having a failed or unsupported drive).

Hello. Just received my 7579. It came with a 256GB SSD. I was told prior to purchase I would be able to add another HDD. I have opened up the laptop and I see a label on the MB as "HDD2". The SSD is labeled as "SSD1". There is also a small area next to the SSD, but I am not sure a 2.5" HDD would fit. In one of the images youll see inside my red square, where I assume the HDD would go, there is a long piece of plastic that looks like it would prevent a HDD from fitting, would I need to remove this? How? My question is, am I able to add an HDD? I have included 3 pictures to show what I am describing. The connection labeled as "HDD1" doesnt look like its a "completed" connection? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Am wondering if anyone has experienced the base of the screen getting really hot?
Tech support so far has replaced:  motherboard, heat sink, GPU fan; next on the agenda is replacing the screen.  But it would be nice to know if anybody else has dealt with this and how it was resolved.

A:Inspiron 15 7000 Series

The problem with what you're generally describing is that there can be a lot of root causes for those warm temps.   It could be, as the techs have already surmised, the components listed.  But it can also be the memory chips on the system (a short causing resistance, causing heat), it could be the hard drive, it could be the battery.  There are a lot of electronics that go into a laptop and any of them can fail (or start to fail), which would case heat.
Not sure that replacing the screen would be my next thought but they may have a reason to do so.  They're the ones that have been working with you and something may have caused them to believe it could be the LCD.  They handle these sort of calls on a regular basis so I would defer to their approach.
Let us know if you are able to narrow down the culprit, and hopefully the LCD replacement will resolve the issue.  Sorry you're having such a hard time with the system, but as I said earlier, there can be a lot of reasons behind what you're seeing.

I need to know if there is a stylus I can use which looks and feels quite like a pen, I don't like the compressible rubbery feel of some stylus, they are not smooth enough.

A:Which stylus should I use with my Inspiron 15r touch laptop? Will a 'Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel' work with it?

Hi Shaurya,Welcome to Dell community.
Yes you can use stylus pen with this system.
15z has 15.6" LED-Backlit LCD Capacitive Multi-touch screen, so you can use Targus Stylus with this system which Dell recommends. For further help you can click on the below mentioned link:
The Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel is the newest stylus from Wacom that a user in that forum said works well. The site, http://bit.ly/WSqVAQ  , says it's compatible with the Latitude 10. Technically, any of the non-battery (somehow powered wirelessly by the tablet) powered Wacom stylus should work.
Please reply me if you need any further help.

I am not very familiar with computers so bear with me.

I bought a used Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop that is not supposed to be working. The person I bought it from stated that it's supposed to have Windows 98, a 6.4 GB hard drive, and 192 MB of memory, and the description was that when turned on, the screen shows the Windows 98 startup logo, then does not go any further from there.

Upon receiving the laptop, however, when I turn it on it only displays the Dell logo at first, then goes into this set up where it is a black screen with the following information:

PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0
Copyright 1985-1998 Phoenix Technologies Ltd.
All Rights Reserved

DELL Inspiron 7000 C400LT BIOS Rev A15 (040A)

CPU = Celeron 400 MHz
0640K System RAM Passed
0191M Extended RAM PAssed
0128K Cache RAM Passed
System BIOS shadowed
Video BIOS shadowed
UMB upper limit segment address: EB90
Mouse initialized
Fixed Disk 0: FUJITSU MHH2064AT

Press <F2> to enter SETUP

*From here on it just stays on that screen. Nothing happens even if I press F2. What could be the problem and any ideas how to fix this?

A:Dell Inspiron 7000 not booting up

Here's an update.

I've been playing around on this laptop and when I ejected the DVD drive (I inserted a Dell Recovery CD for a Latitude CPi), it proceeded to add the following lines to the screen mentioned above:

0210: Stuck Key 23

Then it proceeded to display the Windows 98 logo (as described by the person I bought it from), accompanied by a fast, non-stop beeping sound. after about 5 minutes of this, it started displaying a black screen again with stuff that's too fast for me to read, then it's asking for me to select an option as to what mode I want it to start on. "Safe mode" is highlighted but the keyboard does not seem to be responding, and I could not go any further. Any thoughts?

My wife has a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series and the volume keeps going down to zero without prompting.
We've re-installed the audio driver several times, which fixes the issue for a short time.
Then, after waking up or rebooting, the volume descends to zero again.
I've been installing the Realtek Audio driver, which seems to work, but when it installs, there's an "other" driver that shows up in Device Manager called Intel High Definition Audio, which appears to install improperly.
I've gone to the drivers page at Dell to see what drivers are available for this machine and the only one available is the Realtek Audio Driver, yet the Intel High Definition Audio keeps popping up in Device Manager, even after uninstalling it.
Any ideas?

I have a strange issue with my Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (7353). A quick overview of the issue, the system will not play audio from internal speakers or headphones via 3.5mm jack after a restart/reboot from Windows. The issue is affected in both Windows 8.1 & 10.
- The issue occurs with both Generic Windows HD Audio Drivers & Official Dell Conexant CX20722 Audio Drivers
- When the notebook is powered on from off state, audio works just fine with both Generic Windows HD Audio Drivers & Official Dell Conexant CX20722 Audio Drivers
- Tested in both clean installations of Windows 8.1 & 10.
- BIOS Version: 01.07.00 - A06
I am starting to wonder if this is somehow related to the BIOS re-initialization (or no initialization) of the audio on a reboot from Windows. Is there anyway to confirm/report this issue to Dell? Any suggestions?

At first I was shocked to see what had just happened. My system is not even 6 months old. I finish my work shut the laptop and when I open it next the screen is cracked. Not external damage just out of the blue the screen cracks on the left side. HELP! In my opinion, I see this is a design problem. What to do next?

A:Inspiron 13 7000, Cracked screen

Cracked screens are considered accidental damage and unless you have insurance on the system, not covered by warranty.
