Lenovo g50-80 not booting up after recent updates

Q: Lenovo g50-80 not booting up after recent updates

Hey I have recently gotten my sisters computer which has a broken screen. I have been having having WiFi connectivity issues so I went to the Lenovo page to check for updates on my drivers. Turns out there were quite a few updates including a bios one. So I clicked em all and began updating. Then I had to restart my pc so I clicked restart and update. Ever since the restart the PC will not boot anymore. Since the screen is broken (I've been using HDMI and a tv) I can't see what's going on either. I have tried running it without the battery but that doesn't change anything. Here is a video of the booting https://youtu.be/SCtI0HZXRcsThanks for your help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all, I recently decided to update windows and thought I was doing the right thing by doing this but I have hit a brick wall and I regret doing it now.

When I boot up it comes up with Ntoskrnl.exe Windows failed to load because a required file is missing, or corrupt.
I have tried replacing the files associated with it Fix for ntoskrnl.exe missing or corrupt. Error 0x0000098 when booting up Vista | Windows Reference but still doing the same. I cannot get into windows what so ever..not even safe mode or system restore has worked. I can't even repair when trying from the vista dvd. Only option is to do a clean install...
Why is it doing this? I have been trying all day and last night reading etc to try get some where so I thought I'd sign up and post a thread in this great professional forum.

I can still see all my files are there and are intact through dos. The boot bak file under main drive appears to be empty but I think it will still work even without it. I don't think there is a INI file for Vista correct?
Cheers in advance guys.

Evening all,
Desperate for some help just upgraded my pc componants and now it will not start at all.
As far as i can see all the bios settings are correct. On first start up a message come up first saying no disks found, then when i click onto the bios menu i have AHCI mode enabled and it detects SSD and CD drive absolutly fine.
First i tried booting from original SSD with windows 7 already installed.. kept getting BSOD everytime i get to windows loading screen.
Then after reading on forums people were re-installing windows back on to the SSD, but when trying to boot from the cd drive(yes its a bootable disc) nothing happens and it just goes to the windows repair screen then does nothing after attempting to repair. i have tried removing the SSD so only the cd drive is visable but then it comes up with the message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key"

If I'm connected over a virtual private network (assuming it's as secure as it can be), and I'm running a version of IE7 that hasn't been received updates in about 8 months. Without VPN I would definitely be concerned with the lack of browser security due to the browser not getting Windows updates. But can I place this concern aside since I'm using VPN to surf the Web? Would VPN counter-act this security risk or am I still at the same level of risk if I hit a infected site loaded with malware?

A:VPN without recent IE updates

A VPN will hide your real IP address, block cookies... But, it won't stop viruses from getting to your computer.

I have noticed on all of my machines that after the recent (April 10th) MS Updates that the fans are running almost all the time. My desktop is an Asus K8V MB machine and has a quiet mode that used to keep it very quiet unless it really needed the fans to run hard. I noticed it there first but now I have been watching this (notebook) my net book and my laptop and they all seem to be running the fans harder.

Not Nutz at all,

however I haven't seen that myself. Have you brought up the taskmanager?
Ctrl + Alt + Del and select Task manager

Look to see what the CPU usage is. My Windows 7 for example idles around 1%
If your are running substantially higher than that when you are just sitting there then that could be a cause of more CPU heat and thus the fans running louder.

You can go to the Processes tab and click on the CPU tab to sort by CPU usage and see what is using the most cpu cycles.
Note: System Idle Process should be at 99% as it is a place holder for unused CPU cycles.

The IETF Profile of the X.509 certificate standard defines several
optional fields that can be included in a digital certificate. One
of these is the Basic Constraints field, which indicates the maximum
allowable length of the certificate's chain and whether the
certificate is a Certificate Authority or an end-entity certificate.
However, the APIs within CryptoAPI that construct and validate
certificate chains (CertGetCertificateChain(),
CertVerifyCertificateChainPolicy(), and WinVerifyTrust()) do not
Check the Basic Constraints field. The same flaw, unrelated to
CryptoAPI, is also present in several Microsoft products for
Macintosh.

The vulnerability could enable an attacker who had a valid
end-entity certificate to issue a subordinate certificate that,
although bogus, would nevertheless pass validation. Because
CryptoAPI is used by a wide range of applications, this could
enable a variety of identity spoofing attacks. These are discussed
in detail in the bulletin FAQ, but could include:

- Setting up a web site that poses as a different web site, and
"proving" its identity by establishing an SSL session as the
legitimate web site.

- Sending emails signed using a digital certificate that
purportedly belongs to a different user.

- Spoofing certificate-based authentication systems to gain
entry as a highly privileged user.

- Digitally signing malware using an Authenticode certificate
that claims to have been issued to a company... Read more

I have searched the database of TSG and can't find a similar thread. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

I rarely use my laptop computer, but recently dusted it off after a period of about 2 - 3 months and ran the usual windows updates. These all installed correctly, and the computer required a restart, which again went smoothly.

Upon restarting, IE7 would no longer connect to the Internet. Outlook Express and Firefox work fine, but IE7 is dead as a dodo.

Using system restore fixes the problem, but then that leaves me with an unpatched computer, which I don't like.

I should also add that I rolled back the system and tried installing the latest iteration of IE7 which installs quite a few updates and so forth. After re-start, IE7 was dead again.

So clearly, the problem is with the latest updates.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I'll be glad to supply more details if anyone has any ideas. the updates aren't named as such - just the usual XP security updates.

P Bailie

A:recent updates have broken IE7

I have found that IE7 will work if I open XP in safe mode with networking.

Does this mean that the problem is caused by a software conflict?

The only new software installed recently was the drivers for an Etec WG2400 Cardbus Wireless card.

I had windows 10 installed on my thinkpad laptop T530i in July . My laptop is about 3 years old. Updates as KB3185611   Sept   Kb3159635 KB3193821 Oct. When installing updates  the screen goes dark and there is a white dotted circle like that keeps going around and around. I have let the laptop run for 10 hours and still will not install updates. I have to shut it down twice beofre it will restore to oringial.  I was told there is no way to pick and choose updates now which i think is a bummer. What is causing these updates to fail?  I am getting very frustrated. I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro that I recently upgraded from 8.1 to 10. After the frustrating issue of getting into the newly installed Windows, finally, I came across the "wake" issue, wherein the tablet would go to sleep and the screen would stay black when I woke it up.

I got past that issue by updating the BIOS and the Chipset/Network drivers.

NEW PROBLEM! :D

Since the BIOS update, the resolution is all screwy~
I've gone through the display settings and set the resolution to 1280x800, as is recommended, and by all accounts, the resolution should, in fact, be 1280x800. However, when looking at the desktop and any browsers that are opened, the resolution is smaller.

I have a Rainmeter set up that is set to fit the 1280x800 resolution perfectly, but it's being cut off and the text in windows are blurry and whatnot.

Any ideas? I've been looking around, and I haven't been able to find anything about this. It was perfectly fine before the updates, and updating the Intel HD Graphics didn't help anything.

One said that Window Malicious software removal tool needed access to the internet,
and there was another similar AVG alert during those W7 updates that I've now forgotten,
Any idea if this is this just a change in the behaviour of AVG, or is Washington and MS planting stuff in my PC that I should have refused ?

AVG lost favor amongst techies years ago when it bloated up and never trimmed back down. Most here recommend http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/. So, I ran a Windows Update on a Windows XP SP3 Home Edition last night and found these optional updates available:

.NET 4 Framework update (KB2468871)
.NET 4 Framework update (KB2533523)
Root Certificates update [June 2011] (KB931125)
Update for XP (KB2492386)
I installed them and they installed without issue. After rebooting, the system would boot and the desktop would appear and then eventually explorer.exe would hang and the icons in the system tray wouldn't fully populate and I wouldn't be able to run any applications. I tried backing off the Windows XP update, I tried booting the last known configuration and those didn't help. So, I ran a system restore to the point BEFORE those updates were installed and everything is running fine now.

Does anyone know if any of these updates are problematic? I mean other than the fact the system didn't run right after installing them. I would image the Root Certificate update wouldn't cause any problems but I haven't tried to install any of them again.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi...A friend Of mine did the recent updates to his PC last week...during the update, after a 1/2 hour had passed, he thought his PC was froze so he shut it down, then tried to restart it. He got the blue screen of death (BSOD).
This is what is displayed when he tries to boot up: Windows could not start because the following file is missing
or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

also these characters:

stop: 0x000000c2 (0x00000043,0xc4fee000,0x00000000,0x00000000)

Citing a bad pool caller is the reason
He is an XP user and his PC was running fine before the update. He can't get the PC to go to safe mode...or to the last known good configuration.
He has tried using his disc but after he types "R" in...and the number 1...he can go no further....could someone please offer me some insight as to why this happened?? Possibly an update on a driver and now that is causing this issue? He can't even tell if the updates installed successfully as he is unable to get past the blue screen. A few days ago WIn10 downloaded and installed a huge update. After that finished I checked ThinkPad System Update and downloaded and installed a number of updates. That's when the problems began. I've had the T450S and the Pro Dock (40A10090US) since March, replacing an aging W520 and dock. The Pro Doc worked fine except for an annoying issue. When the T450S was shut down in the dock there was a loud line buzz in the speakers connected to the dock. I gave up trying to fix that, I just shut the speakers off at the same time. However, after the updates mentioned above two new problems surfaced. When the T450S is in the dock with the lid closed and powered off, booting it from the dock button turns on the T450S (lights come on) but nothing happens (blank screen when opened and no keyboard response). I have to open the lid, use the power button to shut it down, and then boot it with the lid open. Then it boots fine. When it does boot up, it used to automatically go to the external monitor and leave the laptop screen off. Now it boots to both screens (Duplicate setting) and I have to use Win+P to force it to second screen only. My Windows 7 system on my Dell XPS has become unstable since a recent Windows Update.
Hard disk and diagnostic checks are good as well as full malware checks are clean.

Many of the built-in and 3rd party apps are now unstable and crash fairly frequently.
sfc /scannow repair finds some issues and tries to fix them but doesn't seem to work.
Windows 7 startup repair also doesn't seem to resolve it.

The two updates that seem to have started all this are KB2909921(Cumulative security updates for IE 11) and KB2830477 (Update to windows 7).
They always say "Failure configuring Windows updates and reverting changes..."
I think I have a corrupted Windows 7 system file.

I've used Tweaking.com Windows Repair v2.4.0 with no luck either.

Any way to find and fix it without moving all my data offline and then re-installing Windows 7 and moving data back?

Or at least figure out how to do the updates correctly?

Any help appreciated!
Thanks guys!

No attachment.  If any BSOD's, change in System Properties under the Advanced tab, click on the radio button for Settings, and change the machine to not reboot after a BSOD, and the log to "Complete Memory Dump".  Did you try a System Restore back before this all happened?  I would after you get this straightened out, use Clonezilla (download Tuxboot from Tuxboot.org to make a bootable USB Pendrive or CD), then clone the drive to either a DVD or Network drive.

Windows also has been known to pull bad updates, due to they end up finding out that they do cause issues.  The last one is for RDC, but also is for Windows 8.x Server 2012 r2, that it changes the behavior of RDC (Remote Desktop Connection.  I would just shut RDC off and use Teamviewer, if you access your computer remotely while either in the house, or away.

Today I ran xxclone to clone my spare drive and all went well. This afternoon I went to shutdown and it logged off, the shutting down window displayed and then it just sat there fat, dumb and unhappy. I can shut it down with the button, but that's to old fashion way.

After reading reams of posts here and elsewhere it seem like this problem is completely baffled the entire guru population because I have tried many remedies with no success. The typical "fix it" MS routines says nothing is wrong. sfc /scannow has no errors. In fact everything I do draws a blank.

Now. I've been there, done that for 57 years wit these computers and their predecessors, and with a window with "shuting down" on it tells me nothing, even if I look at the logs. Maybe my PC has developed a hardware ill?

Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I have had 5+ Windows 7 users with Explorer crashes today. The Explorer Window loads but only displays Favourites and Libraries. All users have similar setups so it may be some other software causing
the problem but I suspect Windows updates may be at fault here. Restarting Explorer.exe brings it back but not a permanent fix

Also these users report not being able to load thumbnails on network drives, where as Windows 10 users can view the same drives fine.
Anyone else had anything similar with Windows 7 machines?

Recently, I received updates from microsoft which updated my graphics driver.  Since then, it causes my screen to turn sideways and I can't use the comptuer without going into the device manger and uninstalling it.  This will change periodically while using my computer and its very frustrating.  For days now HP had been saying they are updating their websites for support with drivers and software, now that message has gone away but my system no longer shows updates for windows 10 OS.  How can I get new/correct updated drivers for my system? I've been on Windows 10 since the free upgrade and had no problems til now and there used to be online support via HP Drivers for Windows 10.  Now there isn't any, will this be updated soon for my model? HP PAVILION DV7-6b55dx.  I am an IT Specialists and have not found the correct video graphics driver yet.  Can you please provide some guidance of where to find the updated drivers since Microsoft's version is not compatible and HP does not show the drivers available for 10 to download.

I've started noticing this recently and I don't know whether it has to do with an Update that was pushed through which changed the way Updates are delivered into new installs, or whether the slipstreaming method used in Update 7 installation media is fouling out Updates actual delivery. Let me describe what happens to see if anyone else recognizes it:

Updates are set to Automatic choosing "Use Recommended Settings" or "Install Important Updates" during the OS install so are presumably downloading in the background as soon as the new install gets online.

Then doing a Check For Updates begins an endless loop that may not resolve at all until one notices that there is a yellow ! on the Shutdown button which begins install of a large group of Updates. Today it was 189. So I shutdown and these tick through the entire 189 but at restart quite a few are logged Failed. So I again Check for Updates and this time it says 72 available, but when I select them and start their download, it again stalls at 0% - the tray icon agrees. Soon the yellow ! appears on Shutdown button again and I shut down to see 72 Updates appear to be installing.

The past few installs where this has happened it was a daylong struggle to get them all in. But they eventually all were installed and I could then choose the Optional - which tells me that Important are self-installing without regard to User input. If I had have waited they may have all installed at once queued by th... Read more

They should just come out with a Service Pack 2 already for 7, but I guess we all know that won`t happen.

You should always set it to ask me later, then to inform you but let you decide.

Since latest updates earlier this week photoshop & firefox & a few others seem to be suffering. e.g. Photoshop barely manages to open after an unbearably long time.

Can I roll back / uninstall latest windows updates? I'm sure they are the source of my woes.

Go to Update History > Installed updates > right click on the one you want to uninstall.

Hello everyone. Today I had the windows updates problem - BSOD after installing windows updates, and had to remove one of the security files (like 100s of other people). However, at some point in this process I lost my audio driver, and cannot get it reinstalled. Realtech HD Audio cannot start code 10. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 with XP Pro SP3. I have removed and reinstalled the driver, and tried updating it, several times from device manager and from the add hardware wizard. I think the required files are in my computer, but I cannot get it to start. Error message is always the same
- The software for this device is now installed, but it may not work correctly. The device cannot start. (Code 10)
Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced this?
Oh, all my audio codecs are ok. There is no audio listed in System devices in device manager - should there be?

A:no audio after recent windows updates crash

Update, although maybe no one is listening...
in dxdiag, the following: "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."
I should have Realtek HD audio...
There are several errors in Eventviewer, but none specific to the sound.
Errors for acpiec: \Device\ACPIEC: The embedded controller (EC) hardware didn't respond within the timeout period. This may indicate an error in the EC hardware or firmware, or possibly a poorly designed BIOS which accesses the EC in an unsafe manner. The EC driver will retry the failed transaction if possible.

Also for DCOM: DCOM got error "This service cannot be started in Safe Mode " attempting to start the service EventSystem with arguments "" in order to run the server: {1BE1F766-5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF}

And:

MRxSmb
NetBIOS
NetBT
RasAcd

SRTSP

How is my computer running if all this does not start?

I can supply a zipped system information file if anyone can use that to help me.

Yesterday, 13 October, there were quite a few updates installed on my Vista Business 32 bit / Dell Lattitude D530. After that the machine would try to start Windows, show the BSOD for an instant and restart repeatedly.

I could start it in Safe Mode but found I had no restore points to go back to. After backing up all my data, I deleted the partitions and did a fresh install of Vista Business. Everything worked again. Then I installed over 80 critical updates and everything still worked. Installed MS Office, all still working... Machine was faster than it had been in a very long time

But my Internet Explorer was only up to ver 7 so I installed the 20 something optional Windows updates which killed the OS again I was able to restore to a time before updates were installed and am in the process of installing critical updates again...

Any other victims? Have you identified which of this week's updates are killing Vista Business?

Posted from my dusty old Inspiron / XP Pro...

A:Recent Updates Killed Vista Business

I have a very similar problem!
After the 13th update I have BSOD; but for me no safe mode working. I tried system restore, nothing to do. Some update has killed my Vista x64.
Suggestions? I need to remove the last updates!

It shows the screen "Starting Windows" for about 2 minutes, then reboots.

So as of about a week ago, I've been having some issues with some applications stuck in an 'always on top mode'. For example, I may be using Pidgin IM, and I'll open up Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer will open up behind Pidgin, and even clicking on Windows Explorer won't bring it in the foreground, thereby causing me to have to minimize pidgin manually.

I thought this was a problem with just me, but one of my friends just recently complained about this too, which leads me to believe that this is affecting a lot of others.

Does anyone know anything about this problem or how to fix it? Running Windows 8.1 Pro.

Is anyone else seeing this? I have Security Essentials scheduled to do a full scan overnight every weekend. The last couple of weekends after getting up I've found that MSE has hung; the tray icon shows that its still "spinning" but it really has just hung up, with a problem in msseces.exe. The last time MSE ran a scheduled scan to completion was 12/5. So sometime after that, I'm assuming a MS Update caused some incompatibility. I do updates fairly often, so there are quite a few that I have no idea how to narrow down. Any help appreciated.

A:MSE scheduled runs hang after recent Updates

I launched a Full Scan and it hung after a little over an hour, shown below. When I Canceled the scan, it appeared to cancel but the tray icon will still spinning.
