Q: Initialization Error - error code: 0x80073b01 for MS Security Client".

On startup I get a popup box with "Initialization Error - error code: 0x80073b01 for MS Security Client", with a selection of choice of "OK".  This issue isn't malware related because I had an earlier topic http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/516854/initialization-error-error-code-0x80073b01-for-ms-security-client/?view=getnewpost that was used to finish the malware removal process.  Also when I shutdown my PC, I get a message to not force a logoff because 1 of 3... updates are being installed, even though my MS Security is up to date.

Preferred Solution: Initialization Error - error code: 0x80073b01 for MS Security Client".

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. I just had a clean install done on my laptop. Someone downloaded something onto it, I can't find it, and the anti-virus I am using, Webroot, detected 4 different malware infections. I tried to clean the files with Webroot, and it could only get rid of 3, so I tried Malwarebytes Pro, but it did not locate the file. The last security program I attempt to run is MSE, but when I tried to open it it said it was corrupted. I tried to uninstall, but I was given the message that I did not have permission to perform the action. Since I just had a clean install I decided to try a system restore. I first tried the farthest restore point listed, but it and the following one would not perform the action for some reason. My third attempt, restoring around the same time I was infected, was successful, and Webroot was still saying I was infected until I ran a system scan when magically the malware was gone/not detected.

So, here are my issues: since Webroot couldn't find what it had found in the past, does that mean I'm clean? Secondly, how do I uninstall MSE, so I can reinstall? Thirdly, Webroot is very sensitive and won't let me open compressed files, even though they come from a trusted source. Even though it states that 50 infections have been cleaned/cleared do you think that I could get rid of it and find something as good/better, or should I keep it and figure out how to manually adjust the filters (I don't want to do that). If you have any security software that you feel is... Read more

A:MSE Error Code: 0x80073b01/Issues with Malware, MSE, and Webroot

Have you paid for Webroot, or is this a 30day trial? You don't want to run both Webroot and MSE on your computer.

Antivirus programs are resource hogs and will fight each other for your system's resources, as well as possibly fight each other's virus definitions.

What browser are you using? You may have what is called 'Adware', that some Anti-virus products don't detect.

Let's see if AdwCleaner finds something that might have been overlooked ...
Download AdWareCleaner AdwCleaner Download to your desktop
1.Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator to launch the application.
2.Click on Delete button.
3.Confirm each time with OK.
4.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.

Note: You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

MsMpEng.exe process is running via task manager and Windows defender services are still working as I see in services.msc. But the services are grayed out that means the services cannot be edited.

I do not have any other malware or anti virus installed in my PC before the error occured.

I've tried malwarebyte anti-malware, tdsskiller, adwcleaner, hitman and also malwarebytes anti-rootkit. Tdsskiller and hitman found nothing. adwcleaner and malwarebyte found threats, after removing those and reboot windows defender still couldn't start.
I have tried malwarebyte anti-rookit also, a first scan found nothing, then I reboot and scan it second time but still found nothing.

I hope to get instructions. Thank you.

Hello all,

I have a problem with Windows Update agent on Windows 7 SP1 enterprise.
We are using Configuration Manager 1606 and Windows 7 SP1 and about 140 computers works without any problem.
On the other 10 computers I got the following error message in the windowsupdate.log:
WARNING: SyncUpdates failure, error = 0x8024400D, soap client error = 7, soap error code = 300, HTTP status code = 200
WARNING: SOAP Fault: 0x00012c
WARNING:     faultstring:Fault occurred
WARNING:     ErrorCode:InvalidParameters(7)

I've tried several actions although none does any help. Here is the list of actions:
- upgrade windows update agent to the latest version
- windows update agent reset by this instructions https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/971058/how-do-i-reset-windows-update-components
- empty Temporary Internet files
- check the rules and blocked traffic on windows firewall and physical firewall between server and workstation vlan
- sfc /scannow

It looks like significant Windows 7 error, although reinstalling is not my option.

Thanks for any help!

Windows 7 Home edition PC.

I'm getting the 0x80073b01 Error Code when I install Security Essentials after it completes the installation but before it starts the program for the first time.  If I click on it from the start menu, it gives the same error as I try to start it.  I believe the same problem is preventing the Microsoft updates from happening as well....they show two new critical updates needed, but it is never able to install them.

Found the program titled "PC Speed Fix" installed on her computer.  I uninstalled it, and after reboot it shows up again (now it is not showing up in her installed programs list).

I have ran updated versions of Malwarebytes and SpyBot...both removed some items, but still unable to start/run Security Essentials.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!  Thanks!!

I have a HP 2600N color laserjet which has served me well for many years. Suddenly, since yesterday, it will not print graphics files. It prints text documents (from Open Office) just fine, but graphics files have failed to print from Photoshop Elements 2, Firefox and Windows 7 Paint.

If I attempt to use Page Setup in Print Preview I get the error noted in the thread title. If I try to print without using Page Setup, it simply does not print. It shows up as "Error - Print" in the print queue when printed from Paint or simply as a printing document when printed from Photoshop Elements or Firefox.

I am able to print test pages from within the Windows printer troubleshooting utility, which makes me think the connection and printer are both working. The troubleshooting utility does not detect any problems.

The HP Toolbox utility says "An unknown error occurred". It suggests I check the connection and power cord, which I know are working because of the previous paragraph.

All I can figure is a recent Windows update broke my printer. Any ideas? Computer info is in my profile.

I get that error (wmi related i think), when i try to check the policies on this client.. its an XP sp2 machine, a member of a 2003 domain..

I've tried removing the workstation from the domain, then deleting its account.. then renaming the machine and rejoining, but nothing has gotten me around this error..

Does anyone know what else to look for..

EIther way, i'm pretty sure GPO's arent being applied properly on this machine (actually there is another machine having a similar error as well).. I think on that machine.. the window that pops up after hitting rsop.msc, was something like "not found".

I have run Malwarebytes, and Hitman Pro several times and was able to remove the Browser Hijacks.  I also noticed the Windows Defender is not running and when I try to enable it in control center I get "error code 0x80073b01".  Also, Windows Update is not working stating that  it is "Disabled by the System Administrator"  This is a personal computer and my sons account is an Administrator account.

In reading several threads, it appears that these issues are a result of Malware and am hoping someone can help.

First, I get a Windows Defender error 0x80073b01 error when I try to start Windows defender error when I try to turn on Windows Defender by clicking on the "Turn on Now" button for "Spyware and unwanted software protection" area but when I try to turn on Windows Defender by clicking on "Turn on Now" for the "Virus Protection" section, it opens the "C:/Windows/system32" folder.

The second issue I have is that Windows Update is not working stating that  it is "Disabled by the System Administrator"  This is a personal computer and my sons account is an Administrator account.

Hi,

As I was using my computer this morning, I realized that the Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) icon was missing from the taskbar. I suspected an update which had taken place the night before had resulted in the MSE icon not being found.

I decided to do a system restore, and it gave me the option to restore to a point on 6/11/13. I did that, and it was unsuccessful, resulting in something called a 'catastrophic failure'.

To this point, MSE still did not reappear. I tried to uninstall it using the Add/Remove programs, and it told me that I did not have sufficient access. I ran Microsoft 'Fix It', and I was able to uninstall Microsoft Security Client/ MSE.

I then tried to reinstall MSE.
(Before I tried reinstalling MSE, I removed MBAM because MSE installer told me to remove any security programs before installation.)

The first time I tried, it was unsuccessful. I restarted the computer, and tried a second time. This time, it completed the install, but it brought up Error 0x80073b01.

I am currently running a full scan on Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool.

( I would like to add that I am using an ASUS notebook computer with Windows 7 64bit.)

Thank you

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding. Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one. If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem. Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me. Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed. Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean. My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.   Multiple Antivirus Programs installed!I do not recommend that you have more than one anti-virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which... Hallo.
I have a failed HDD.
In the past I have usually been able to help myself to at least retrieve any data from the HDD.
But this time the problem seems to be different. If it has any bearing, this is the first time since upgrading to Windows 7 and operating for I can't remember how long, since without any issues.
As I always have in the past, this HDD is formatted with a separate partitions (1) for the OS and program files, and (2) for my data. This has usually this been enough to retrieve my data by installing the drive in a second Thinkpad using a second HDD adapter and retrieving the data. These days I also keep most of my data on a NAS but I do have some folders on a D:\ or Data drive which I would like to retrieve.

This time however I cannot even 'see' the drive at all. Not when I try to boot from it, or as a second HDD using an adapter. It is not even visible under Disk Management in case it needed to be initialized (again?) So this time, I seem stuck, unable to help myself:

In the first instance, I get the Error 2100: HDD0 (Hard Disk Drive) initialization error (2) when booting from the drive.
When I press ESC to continue, the computer tries to initialize the HDD or something, and from memory, I think displays an 'unable to boot from any device' screen and shows the status for the devices without any operating systems.

When I try the same with the affected HDD but this time with an installation disc inserted, I do not see the 'Press any key to boot from CD or DV... Read more

I have been using windows 10 with HP CLient Security Manager since August. Due to some issues I kept having with the 10240 build of windows I have now installed the upcoming release of Windows 10 build 10586, which seems to have cured all my small hickups. The only issue I have now is HP CLient Security Manager will not install. I have tried most versions up to 8.3.16.2035  I get an error on Powershell near the end of installation "Verb Pin to taskbar not found. At C:\Users\Mikem\AppData\Local\Temp\{481CCD48-45A4-4630-B505-4B5ACDF0177D}\shortcutpinning.ps1:48 char:3+         throw "Verb $verb not found."+         ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~    + CategoryInfo          : OperationStopped: (Verb Pin to taskbar not found.tring) [], RuntimeException    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Verb Pin to taskbar not found."followed by the error   Pressing ok reverses the installation . Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

A:HP Client Security Manager Error 1722

I did an Workaround with that everything runs fine. I used Client Security Manager 8.3.16.2035 Rev.A and Windows 10 Build 10586. Should work with other Versions, too. The issue is because of the missing Verbs in Powershell used in the script. The script causing the issue is just to add the Program Symbols to the Start Menu and Taskbar (what I think can be done manualy if needed). Just start the installation of the Client Security Manager, do not click the second next/continue button (from the Messagebox shown in your post), just let the files extract. Then goto the temporary directory: C:\Users\<USER NAME>\AppData\Local\Temp\{481CCD48-45A4-4630-B505-4B5ACDF0177D}, empty the file "ShortcutPinning.ps1" (I removed all lines except the comments in the beginning) and save. Then finish the installation, reboot and everything worked for me  Hope HP will release an updated Version soon. Regards Sorry for my english. Is not my native language

OK. Not sure why, but FixIt from Microsoft was able to repair the file and successfully this time and uninstall MSE and I have reinstalled it. I'll post if this helps with the error message.
I did run ComboFix and this may have done it, or at least helped.

A:getting error 1722 when uninstalling hp client security

Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting.  Is this a new PC for your , or you have had for quite a while ?  Looks like the installer is corrupted or actually the installation itself has messed up for some reason, let's try to repair it: For HP Client Security , download >>http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5405166&swItemId=ob_164558_1&swEnvOid=405... When the installer is downloaded, run it. If the installation offers you repair or uninstall of previous version, choose to repair it.  There are certain things you SHOULD do before uninstalling HP Client Security. HP Client Security often comes in combination with HP Drive Encryption software. If your disk is currently encrypted by this software, you should first open HP Client Security -> click on Drive Security and follow the on-screen instructions to DECRYPT the HDD. Note that this is generally slow process and may take several hours or more depending your the amount of your HDD and your PC specifications. You may also check if you have preboot authentication enabled. Open the HP Client Security home page -> click on the wheel Settings button -> Security Features and check there is no tick next to Power-On Authentication With regards to HP Client Security and HP Drive Encryption, here are some screenshots with regards to these suggestions >>https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=!AEyZq_GEDdnNQnE&... Trying to install Windows 10. Uninstalled all components of HP Client Security Manager and thought I uninstall HP Client Security Manager as well. But it still appears on the programs list. When I try to uninstall it again, I get this error:  Error applying transforms.  verifiy the specified transform paths are valid. When attempting to install Windows 10 at this point, it indicates HP Protecttools needs to uninstalled (which I assume is HP Client Manager since that is what appears in the program listing .... in regedit, the two seem to be connected.) I don't know what transforms are and have no idea on how to proceed. I see something about changing the path for the transform in regedit, but I don't even find a transform and HP Client Security associated in the registry. When I try to use the Microsoft uninstall utility, it doesn't recognize that either Client Security Manager or Protecttools is installed (it is not on the list of applications presented) so I click Not Listed and it  asks me to provide Product Code for the software. I haven idea where to find that. Any advice is appreciated.

I meet this error only on my laptop connecting to 2 particular Windows 2008 server. Below is the scenario

1. I used my laptop Windows 7
2. I am trying to connect to Windows 2008 R2 server via Remote Desktop Connection.

I got this error:
because of a protocol error detected at the client(code 0x1104), this session will be disconnected

Important thing:
1. I can connect to other Windows 2008 R2 servers with Remote Desktop Connection successfully. Only 2 servers cannot connect.
2. For those 2 servers, if I use another Windows 7 to connect, this also has no issue

That means:
Only my laptop connecting to 2 particular Windows 2008 servers have this problem

So my RDP client side is working -because it can connect other Windows VMs
The 2 servers are also working - because it can be connected via another client

Please help me! Thank you very much

Hello Support Forum, I have a problem with my security set up. I installed  HP Client Security Manager (sp65637.exe, 8.3.3.1786 (17 Mar 2014)) under Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit to enable the fingerprint sensor and use the self-enryption feature of my new SSD (Crucial M550, 1 TB). After the software installation was complete I rebooted my notebook and tried to configure the HP Client Security Manager. The two screenshots below illustrate the problem I am experiencing.First I see the notice "DPFPApi not initialized" and when I enter the correct Windows password, I get the error message "Value does not fall within the expected range". I cannot continue setting up the HP Client Security Manager beyond that error message. Changing the Windows password and trying again as well as reinstalling the HP Client Security Manager did not fix the issue. The HP Hotline's only other piece of advice was to reinstall Windows, which I am not going to do because of this. Do you have any other ideas what might be causing this issue and how to fix it? Thank you,JP

When i startup my computer an error appears

(Name Of Box)MOM.EXE - .NET Framework Initialization Error
(Red circle with X) Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application.
[ OK ] Button

The picture on the task bar is the ATI logo and says ATI. I looked up MOM.exe and knew it has something to do with ATI, i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my ATI drivers, didnt fix the problem.

I was having a problem before where I had a similar error at startup. The name of the box was MOM.EXE, and it said it couldnt run the problem if i remember right.

Im both cases i can click the OK button and the error doesnt come up again until i restart my computer.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thanks in advance for the help.

A:At Startup Error: Mom.exe - .net Framework Initialization Error

This error may be a result of the .NET Framework either not being installed or the installation is corrupt. Go Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and make sure the Show Updates box at the top is checked. Then search for an entry called:Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0If it is there remove it (don't worry if it is not there). Then go to this site and download a fresh copy of it. Install it, reboot and then see if your problem has been solved.

Recently, a Windows update arrived called “Microsoft Security Essentials Client Update Package - KB2544035”. Since then my computer started malfunctioning. Whenever, I try to install the update, everything goes fine, and then suddenly goes blank and the desktop returns (but the Windows update screen had closed). When I open Windows update, it shows that the aforesaid update is not installed. And when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it and asks to delete it. I can’t even open Microsoft Security Essentials manually from Program files. Things return to normal on System Restore. But the Microsoft Security Essentials appears ‘potentially unprotected’ and asks for a full system scan. But before the scan is complete the Microsoft Security Essentials screen closes and the desktop returns once again. And, once again, when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it.

This problem has occurred twice already, and I’m very frustrated. I tried to full system scan in Safe Mode and that has not helped.

Please help.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate and am an administrator on my box. I was able to open Task Scheduler but the the Create Task and other items were greyed out and the library was unavailable with the 'Reading Data Failed' error. After spending a looong time on the phone with a very nice man from Microsoft support, the fix for this error has been given to me. It is to delete a particular registry key that was corrupted by a MS update. Here is the fix that worked for me.Start > Run > regeditNavigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\RPC\INTERNET Export this key to back it up first, then delete the whole Internet key (and it's sub-keys). Reboot your systemTask Scheduler should now work.

Ok - I'm trying to fix my friends' computer - Toshiba Satellite L455-S5975 running Windows 7 32-bit

Windows firewall is off and I need to "Update Firewall Settings". When I click use recommended settings, I get a message that says it "can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x80070424" I get the same thing when I click on "Turn Windows Firewall on or off" and "Restore Defaults"

When I click on "Advanced Settings" I get "There was an error opening the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap-in" followed by it "failed to load. Restart the Windows Firewall service on the computer you are managing. Error code 0x6D9."

I scanned the computer using both Avast and Microsoft Safety Scanner (full scan and took over 2 hours) - no infections or issues found

I installed all Microsoft updates and followed suggested restarts.

I ran Microsoft Fix It and I get a message that the firewall isn't running or stopped and it can't be fixed.

I have gone into services as an administrator to try and start Windows Firewall...it isn't there - not in the list of services (local)

I also used SlimDrivers to update all the drivers on the computer.

What I am not seeing is how to uninstall and reinstall Windows Firewall...any other program or hardware issue, that would seem to be the easiest solution - but I have yet to see how to do that with Windows Firewall.

I even started the computer in safe mode... Read more

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

I had a Windows Update occur last night, which was just a normal thing. Right after the update, MSE started getting the error code 0x80070002 whenever I tried to start the program, or when I would boot up the machine. I Googled answers for this and the best thing I could do was uninstall MSE.

I'm trying to reinstall MSE because I like how lightweight it is and because Windows keeps bugging me about it. I am aware that I can disable the notifications, but knowing that I don't have any protection is just something I don't want to be aware of.

Anyway, when I tried reinstalling it, I ran into the error code 0x80070643. Googling again led me to see that this is just some sort of installation error.

I don't have any other antivirus programs installed aside from Windows Defender. I've tried running several Microsoft Fix Its, and a bunch of command prompt steps, but it's still to no avail.

A:Microsoft Security Essentials Error Code

Download & run the Microsoft Security Essentials Removal Tool Download (It's actually a M$oft "Fixit")  then try reinstalling. If you still get errors I suggest you refer to this **Microsoft Security Essentials - Installation Checklist and Frequently Asked Questions

Edit to add: **Particularly parts 3 & 4
Hope this helps.
