Error Message error:sytax.error - Firefox

Q: Error Message error:sytax.error - Firefox

I am having a problem with the above error message (error:syntax.error) when I'm running Firefox.

I have uninstalled Java and reinstalled it, but still the same problem.

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7
Processor Count: 8

Hard Drives: C: Total - 698475 MB, Free - 580394 MB;
Motherboard: TOSHIBA, PEQAA
Antivirus: avast! Antivirus, Updated and Enabled

Preferred Solution: Error Message error:sytax.error - Firefox

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is very annoying, did not happen with the older Firefox version... Help me please.

Thank you in anticipation, that someone will be able to help with my problem as outlined below.

I am using Firefox browser with the AOL dialer, as I recently stopped using the AOL software after changing from AOL dial up to AOL Broadband wireless. I am still using the AOL dialer as I gather, I need this to log on wirelessly with AOL, at least in UK.

When I log onto Firefox, I get a server error message. So I go to Tools > Options >
Connection Settings & then click onto the Direct or Auto connection setting, go back & retry & it allows connection to my homepage, but I have to do this each time I logon to Firefox. IE causes no problems & nor does Opera, but as I use roboform which isn't compatible with Opera I prefer Firefox to IE.

When this first happened I thought Firefox might have been corruupted so removed & reinstalled but same error message? My partners laptop who has no problems logging on is using the same AOL wireless connection although mine is the PC which was connected to wireless/router/modem.

A work around would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have recently started to use Mozilla Firefox as my browser, and generally it is working properly. But every now and then, if I click on a desktop icon for the purpose of opening a required website, etc., the following message pops up:-

"Firefox is already running but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window" This can occur even when I have not been using any other website, etc.
It does not happen every time, but I would like to know whether I can prevent the error message?

A:Firefox error message

It sounds like it didn't close properly. Go into Task Manager and kill all firefox.exe processes and try again.

I have recently started to use Mozilla Firefox as my browser, and usually it has been functioning well, but I occasionally get an error message which I don't know how to deal with. It comes about when I click on any of the website icons on my desktop, so as to open that particular one. But quite often I receive the following error message :- "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window," If I then click on "close", it goes to the website that I wanted, but I would just like to know if there is a way I can reach the website without the error message appearing? Any help would be appreciated.

Good morning, for the last couple months I've been getting an error message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system". I close the window, and try to select another, I hear the fan ramp up, then the error message appears. I click to close button on the error box, then I'm able to change to another window. The Task Manager shows when a window is closed the CPU goes to 100% for 10 to 15 seconds, then back down to 2% to 4%, only then can I access the new window. Tried in Firefox Safe Mode, cleared the cookies and cache, but problem still persists. Tried in Internet Explorer 7, and can zip back and forth between windows with no delay. I use Secunia, and have the latest Firefox, and other programs, does anyone have an idea whats happening?

Thanks for your time,...Tom

When playing online games at Pogo.com (and a couple of other sites)...my XP and Firefox both close down suddenly during the game setup procedure. On Pogo I get as far as the game box with the last ad in it while the game loads but then suddenly either browser will just shut off.
I also noted yesterday that on a site using DirectX control to display I just get the display box with a 3D grid in it instead of whatever was supposed to display in the box.
I downloaded IE7 and didn't like the interface so unloaded it and went back to IE6. This began happening after the unload. So I reloaded IE7 and it is still happening. I have gone back on system restore to a point before all this but the problem is still going on.

A:problem with firefox error message

About a week ago I installed Firefox 3, and for that week, it worked perfectly. However, yesterday I encountered several problems. Firstly, for some unknown reason, each time I went onto YouTube, Google, and various other sites, an error message kept appearing, saying 'Address not found' Sometimes these sites work, sometimes they don't. Weirdly, sometimes they work but only the raw text and the images come up, the text is in Times New roman and there is no background. So, I uninstalled firefox 3, I reinstalled Firefox 2, which didn't work. I checked on Internet Explorer 7, which had the same problem. This problem never happened before I had firefox! When I restart Firefox it works better, but gradually diminishes in success and loading time. At some points, all sites work, at some points, very few do. Some sites ALWAYS work perfectly, however one site, namely Bebo, is notourious for not working. I have a Vista and I'm using a wireless router with Virgin internet access. I've checked for viruses, and quarentined one, but the problem still persists. I've deleted several add ons.. erased browser chaches.. chewed a few pens... to no avail. So please, if you could help, I would be very grateful .

Thanks if anyone can help with this -- I'm pulling my hair out.

I've accumulated more than 2000 bookmarks on Firefox (I know), and want to export them for use on IE. I've followed the usual routine of saving the .html but when I attempt to import on IE it very quickly gives me the error message: "Some settings were not imported successfully." I've tried several times, and it usually transfers a few hundred across (never more than 400) before giving me the error.

What am I missing? I really hope it's not something to do with "forbidden" (forgive my not knowing the correct expression) characters being used in Firefox bookmarks, like ":" and """. If you bookmark an Amazon.co.uk page, for example, it has a couple of ":"s in the name. Could that possibly be it?

Any way around this? It's frustrating being stuck on something so straightforward, especially as I'm sure I did this without trouble just a couple of months ago.

Cheers if you can help!

A:Error message when attempting to import Firefox bookmarks

That exact same problem happened to me too - wouldn't import HTML bookmark file from Firefox. I never did get it fixed so I resolved to stay with Firefox and only use IE for Windows Updates.

My guess is it's a bug in the newer versions of IE because I never had that problem with IE6. My guess is that many IE8/IE9 users haven't yet discovered the problem because they either don't use Firefox or they never needed to import Firefox bookmarks yet.

The real idiotic thing is that IE8/IE9 will open that HTML bookmark file no problem, but it won't import it. I just gave up on IE altogether (which wasn't a very hard decision anyhow, given that Firefox is much more customisable and is updated more often).

First thing this morning, I opened Firefox as usual, and it gave me an alert:

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (weather) isn't associated with any program."

I can click OK, or the x-box, or hit escape, as many times as I want, but the dialog box won't close. I have to open Task Manager and end task. But Task Manager doesn't say it's not respoding. Sometimes it just closes it, and other times it tells me Firefox is waiting for a response from me.

I've re-downloaded and reinstalled the program, but it doesn't help.

Running Windows XP Pro SP3

I keep randomly getting this error.

I found some information from 2003 that would lead me to believe that what I have is like the W32.Blaster.Worm documented back then, but after running symantec's specific tool to get rid of Blaster I ended up finding nothing.

Also, I've run many Malwarebytes scans, Spybot Search and Destroy scans and iolo Anti Virus scans(I know it's not the best but others seem to clash with my System Mechanic because it's set to work with the iolo one) which all turn up nothing.
This has been bugging me for a few weeks now while I tried to find out what was going on when I had the free time to run these long scans. At the same time my services.exe and one of my svchost.exe files are always running at about 10% of my CPU each and it definitely seems related to the NT AUTHORITY RPC errors I'm getting now.
Help with this will be extremely appreciated.

I have an error message: An error occurred while loading a file. AOL will attempt to restore the file. My emails, however, are affected. I have email icons without subjects. The emails do open but I cannot know what they are or who sent them prior to opening and I cannot download attachments, answer or forward the messages. This is a potential disaster if I cannot fix this quickly.

Any help appreciated.

Hello everyone,
I recently had a virus on my Windows xp computer (one of those ones that pretends to be an anti-virus program telling you your computer is infected). Before I had the chance to remove it I found I was unable to start up my computer. Instead of the usual user login screen I had a black screen with this message:

"lsass.exe - Application Error". The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on ok to terminate the application

Once I click okay nothing happens, the screen just remains blank. I have tried going into safe mode (F8 key) but it doesn?t seem to work. I hold the button down but the computer just loads up like normal and goes onto the dreaded black screen.

I have done some quick research and found that the problem is either the OS is broken, or a virus is pretending the OS is broken. Either way I have no idea what to do.

Any help is much appreciated. Please note however I am pretty clueless when it comes to computers, thus please try to assume as little prior knowledge as is reasonably possible and include simple step by step instructions if you can. I apologise for my ignorance.

If you need any further information let me know. Note as I have no laptop currently I will have to wait until I am in work to respond.

Thanks in advance!
