Preferred Solution: Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th Gen 0.1.34 bios ask a password which I never setup.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I purchased this computer second hand. Every time I boot it up I am prompted with this and I type in what I believed was the BIOS password and it boots up and lets me use it as regular. Recently I tried actually entering the BIOS. I pressed f11 on startup, then enter to interrupt normal startup and chose to enter bios from a list. I was then prompted with a new password form and this same password which I believed to be the BIOS password did not give me access.I just tried this approach  again and now it doesn't even let me interrupt normal startup. I would appreciate if someone could explain to me what is going on.

I have recently purchased a 6th gen x1 carbon. It is the model with a 512gb ssd and 16gb of ram. I am planning a setup for my dorm room that definitely could use some work. There are a lot of peripherals going into this so bear with me. My main question through explaining this is if there is a way to streamline the setup and make it more cost efficient.  I am planning to major buys with this setup, the thinkpad ultradock and an Egpu. Regarding the Egpu, it will be a GTX 1070 mounted in a Razor Core V1. My question is I feel like having both the dock and core is unnecessary. I ideally would like to come into my room and put my X1 straight into the dock, which will be closed and probably upright next to the Egpu. Where I see the problem is that I could just as easily do the setup without the dock and instead plug the Egpu into the TB3 port every time I get home, and simply have the peripherals connected to the Egpu housing. One of the pieces that is making me question the setup is I also intend to have an external SSD that will stay in my room with the Egpu and will store my video games to save space on the internal drive for classes and regular programs. I have been told that the SSD and Egpu cannot share the same port as there would not be enough bandwidth to support the two for how I intend to use it, mostly gaming. So here are a couple questions I would like answered. 1. Should I even bother with the Ultra Dock if I am getting the EGPU2. What would be th... Read more

On my old T420, I was able to set a HD password on my SSD in the BIOS so that if anyone ever stole my laptop and pulled the drive, they wouldn't be able to access the data without the password. I'd like to do the same with my X1 Carbon Gen 4 with 512GB Samsung 950pro NVMe HD.  However, in the BIOS, I see no option to set a HD password.  I can set a power on password, but I don't think this means the HD is encrypted.  I assume anyone can pull the HD and read all the data.

Greetings, I've been a happy owner of the following notebook. Yesterday after using Lenovo Vantage I got info that a new BIOS is available 1.35. I updated, the system rebooted, it was all fine and working. I eventually turned off and rebooted the laptop a couple of times during the day and still everything was fine, until later that day in the evening I put the laptop to sleep (closing the lid). After trying to wake it up I got a cold shower. - The screen doesn't light up- There is no POST or boot picture at all- The Keyboard backlight lights up and works- The adaptive touchbar works (and cycles thru the two menus)- The fan spins for about 5 secs after power om The things I have tried so far: - Connecting to an external monitor to see if there would be any activity - no signal- Tried pulling out the battery and draining the system (holding power button for a minute)- Tried the reset button. Unfortunately nothing worked, and im stuck and in need of assistance. Thank you in advance for your kind advices.

About three weeks ago I upgraded BIOS on my laptop (as suggested by Lenovo Vantage) to latest version (N14ET45W (1.24), 3/01/2018). I am running Windows 10 64 bit. Shortly after that I started suffering quite frequent momentary freezing events where I had to wait between 10 to 40 seconds for the machine to continue working. During this period many of the running apps were closed and then reopened and I could not type or do any other thing. As you can imagine, this turned to be quite frustrating. I started searching at several forums, mainly Windows 10 related forums for a solution. U tried every possible solution, from updating all drivers to editing Registry etc. with no positive results at all. I was finally considering a full reimage of my machine when my latest resource turned to be rolling back my BIOS, as after checking on dates it seemed my suffering started shortly after my latest Lenovo Vantage drivers and BIOS update. Accordingly, I rolled Back from indicated BIOS to N14ET45W (1.23), 2/28/2018.Voila! This was the required solution. After that, my machine has been running smoothly, with no freezing events.Hope I had found a solution at any forum, and that?s why I am sharing this information here, as I really spent almost three weeks of frustration and unsuccessful searching/testing. I think Lenovo should test better and BIOS release. Hope my post may help other X1 Carbon 3rd Gen with a similar issue. DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS TO version (N14ET45W (1.24), 3/01/2018!!... Read more

I have had this H50-55 for sometime, several years and suddenly it ask for a bios password when I try to enter the bios to change the boot order.  I have no clue what it is. I hate passwords and NEVER use one unless forced...What can I do?

A:Lenovo H 50-55 Bios password suddenly appears when trying to enter bios. I don't know it.

my guess is that your cmos battery died and it wants you to set day/time.  There is no backdoor password.  The choices are remember the PW or replace the motherboard.

Hello Lenovo Community,  I have a Lenovo U41-70 80JV. It was a birthday gift from my friend. I have been using this laptop for 2 years already. For some reason, I had a BIOS password in my computer. Here is what I have tried so far:- Use cmospwd-5.0 -> Command Prompt -> ioperm.exe -i -> StartService function call failed- Use Master Password -> Failed- Use bios-pw.org -> BIOS doesn't show error code- Kill CMOS Battery -> Waited 30 minutes -> Failed- Pull out jumpers -> Do not see any jumpers- Use KillCMOS3.0 -> Killed -> Password didn't resetSomeone told me to use dip switches but I cannot locate it because I don't have an exact picture of itAny help, thanks! David Anderson

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost 255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

Hello
I've had a Dell Inspiron 5520 that's grown on me for the last two years. I haven't made any changes to the BIOS in a while(probably a year) until recently when I was needed to change back to Legacy boot mode.  I was able to access the BIOS problem is I found out I can't make any changes until I input the correct password  (the setup is locked).  This is the error it gives on a wrong password input, the BIOS version is 'Dell INc. A13, 11/15/2012'. A master password would be really appreciated(or some pointer to the right direction).

A:BIOS setup asking for password

To obtain the master, call Dell by voice -- and be prepared to verify your registration details.  If the system is out of warranty, have a credit card as well -- the support call will not be free if the system is no longer under warranty.

so I get a fatal error earlier today, something like "you will need to reinstall windows" in one of those white boxes with the weird font. I didn't believe it at first...

now I cannot boot up my computer. I'm assuming my harddrive died (which I've only had for a few weeks, it's going back to the store)...

But here is the kicker... my bios setup won't let me in. All of a sudden, it needs a SETUP PASSWORD. I've never set a setup password before. and I've never been asked for a setup password, ever.

any ideas? I found a few sites that help you get around this, with default passwords to try, etc. but none of them worked.

any info would be great,
cheers.

Unfortunately we have a rule here at TSG that we do not assist with bypassing any types of passwords because we cannot verify the true intention or owner of the computer. Therefore I must close this thread.

Hello  AdamMardini,  We are sorry as there is no master password or generator for EliteBooks or ProBooks. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case.  Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.        When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.  Or download these files. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zu4kdgxm052l87d/AAAMi-kfX4AVH8oTCbsOM4X9a?dl=0 Insert clean USB flash drive. Then run USB Image tool. Choose the flash drive then click on RESTORE. After restore remove flash drive. Insert flash drive into locked laptop and boot. ?If HDD is installed remove before booting.? At C:\OUTPUT   type CD.. ?Then hit enter? Type HPBR   ?Then hit enter? First thing is to save your settings. Select #3 re-program. Press ?S? to save system information. Type HPBR and hit enter. Since your model is not listed select ?SHOTGUN.? After reboot repeat ?SHOTGUN? a second time. If you cannot... I've got a e525 lenovo that (currently) refuses to boot from media.

I've got Fn keys set to legacy, for ease of use.

F12 will display 'options' on the diagnostic splash screen, however it gives no opportunity to select, and dumps me directly into the setup/bios.

CD in CD drive, Bootable USB plugged in, none of them want to boot. I've pulled the SATA drive and placed it into another computer to run checkdisk on, and its recognised and "fixed".

Any ideas?

System Type: M710sSerial number: MJ05UN7COperating System: Windows 10 Home Premium 64-bitBios version: LENOVO M16KT40A, 10/5/17 The issue is whenever I try to access the Bios setup (whether by pressing F1 repeatedly with Full PC Shutdown enabled, or by Windows 10 Advanced Startup option), I only see a black screen, as my monitor apparently doesn't detect bios activity on my screen, making it impossible to do anything like enable Intel Virtualization Tech or change my video card output. This black screen issue also seems to apply to the Lenovo pc startup logo (if there is one for my machine) and the Windows 10 loading screen.

Have a Satellite PRO S300 (PSSB0A-06500T) which is BSOD-ing with Stop 7B and I want to get into the full part of the BIOS so I can reset boot order to enable me to re-install Win XP.

Esc - F1 just gets me into the restricted part of Page 1 of the ACPI BIOS set-up. I know the Supervisor password! So how do I get to a password prompt that will allow me into both pages of the BIOS set-up.

I have tried F12 on boot to attempt to get into the boot options on the Toshiba splash screen, but that does not work.

A:Sat S300 - How to get Supervisor Password Prompt to Enter Full BIOS Setup?

I think you hold down a button during power on. Try holding the "INS" key to get the supervisor password prompt to appear.

So recently i need to use virtual box to build a practice lab, Intel VT-x is available but not enabled i can only assume because im locked out of the bios setup. Im 99.99% sure i didnt set a password for bios menu. Even if i did, my go to password isnt working, and iv tried for several hours guessing. I tired clearing the Bios by unplugging the ram, battery and cmos battery and holding the power button down for 30 seconds and then plugging in the cmos battery after it power cycles on and off and then one of the ram sticks. That didnt work, because it has a eeprom chip. Remember the password is out of the questions id prefer not to change the mobo or the bios chip if at all possible. My main goal is to enable intel virtualization. But if something else were to go wrong i may need access to my bios setup. Any advice? Thank You.

A:I need the BIOS Password for Lenovo G50-80

Good day and welcome to the community. There is no factory default / master BIOS password.

Furthermore, the only discussion surrounding BIOS passwords generally allowable in the forum is what is published on page 24 of the hardware manual: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_g_z_50_series_hmm.pdf

Hi, I just purchased an M92p Tiny for playing around a little bit with it, because I like the form factor.I got the pretty maxed out spec machine (i5 CPU, 8gb RAM, I put in my 500gb Samsung SSD, 2 x Display Ports, 1 VGA, I added a brand new mPCIe WiFi/Bluetooth card, ...).I installed Windows 10 Pro and XUbuntu as dualboot via UEFI and it works fine.By the way I also upgraded the machine with the latest BIOS firmware from the Lenovo support page. What bothers me:- I configured in BIOS a slower Lenvo splashscreen, but still it passes by pretty fast <2-3 seconds I believe -- but ok, I can live with that, but would like to see a bit more relevant and interesting information than just a splashscreen- I can ONLY see the boot splashscreen and F1 BIOS setup and F12 boot device prompt via VGA port (I played around with the configuration in BIOS auto/IGP without any effects - and multi-monitor option doesn't exist as stated in some other posts)- Once boot procedure is done, and the OS is switching graphics mode (Win10 or Xubuntu login screen in Xorg) then it switches to DisplayPort. How can I enforce the usage of the Display Port all the time from the beginning? I don't want to use the VGA port at all, but I want to have the option to see the F12 boot device prompt and maybe go to the BIOS setup via DisplayPort from time to time. Hope you guys can help me, thanks in advance!!!

Hi G570/575 UsersThe LCD of my G570 (model 4334) is dead black. I have to use an external monitor which is connected to the D-sub (VGA port)  to view the screen. However, my Window 7 is corrupted and I need to reinstall the OS. But the boot menu does not appear on the external monitor, thus I could not change the boot sequence to make the DVD as the first boot device(the HD is the first boot device now).I was wondering if someone could help me the keystrokes needed to do the following:1. The keystrokes to make the external monitor display the boot menu, save and exit. If this not possible, then2. The keystrokes to change the first boot device to DVD, save and exit. Thanks a lot.Yiping

My young bro accidently created a system password in BIOS. I need to change boot mode to UEFI. How can i reset the BIOS/MOTHERBOARD ?

A:RESET BIOS PASSWORD IN LENOVO B40-80.

Hi smileshs ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

BIOS password reset can only be done by sending it to the Lenovo depot facility .
Such security is encoded on the BIOS and you may have to get your brother to remember it.

Thanks for reading my post.

I have here a Lenovo G580 Laptop. When powering on it asks for HDD Password. When I try to access the BIOS to remove/edit the password it asks me for a BIOS password.

Now the real strange thing is that no password has ever been set for BIOS or the Hard Drive.... However... I've tried removing the battery and the CMOS battery to reset the password... and when I insert them and power back up it STILL asks for the passwords!?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. The laptop isn't old however it is just outside of the warranty.

Thanks for reading and I hope someone can help me

A:lenovo G570 bios password

Hi Yiping ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try turning the pc on using the novo button .
Else if the display cannot project , you may have to blind map it , step by step .
It would be using InsydeH20 , initially use Novo button to turn on.
2nd option to choose BIOS option so down arrow once.
As it now goes to the BIOS main tab by default , 4 tabs to the right so it will be 3 left arrow .
Follow thru with this example.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

*** edited note for additional link ***

You can use this BIOS simulator for G570 to accurately map the step.

Hello! I have a question. Friend of mine gave me this pc (y50-70), everything works fine, can't say anything bad. But the problem is about my bios password and the keyboard. When i try to enter bios it asks me for system password. Asked my friend about it, but he never tried to enter bios. Quetion is, can i change/remove bios password?  About keyboard, every few minutes to 1 hour my A and S buttons stop working for some time (2mins-30mins). And then randomly start to work again. What's the issue? how can i fix this? (When I was writing this text these keys stopped working several times).  Sorry if these questions have been asked before, im pretty new here.   Thanks in advance.

A:HOW TO REMOVE LENOVO G40-70 BIOS PASSWORD?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problem.  From what you have described I'm not sure if the hard drive password or a BIOS Power On password was enabled on your system.  Unfortunately with either password, discussions are limited by Forum Rules.  This is due to the ease in which laptops are stolen.  If you didn't activate the passwording on your laptop then I would suggest checking with anyone who may have had access to it.  Only they can assist you in removing that password.  The alternative is to contact Lenovo Support for replacement of hardware that is locked by the password.
