T440p plugged in but not charging

Q: T440p plugged in but not charging

Good afternoon, I am currently having issues with my Lenovo T440p laptop being plugged in to the AC adaptor but the charging icon does not appear and it doesn't charge the battery. I have had this occurring a couple times over the past couple months and usually manipulating the power cord in the charging port of the computer works. The AC adaptor is all connected tightly in the outlet, computer and brick. My computer has now turned off because there is no charge and I am unable to determine if it is charging or not. I also do not have another device that fits the AC adaptor so I cannot determine if the power cord is malfunctioning or if it is the charging port of the computer. Is this something that can be repaired? Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time, Bonnie

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have reinstalled Windows 10 Pro with the ISO image from Microsoft. I had to, because after installing Lenovo Companion and Lenovo Settings from Windows Store and updating all the drivers (and 2 BIOS updates), my computer stopped working. Now my computer runs on clean Win 10 Pro and with the latest Business branch updates only. Yesterday the dreaded "Plugged in, not charging" problem has started (I've experienced it before on my TP E430 and I had to change the battery there). The battery is stuck at 79%. I emptied the battery two times, but it didn't help. Any ideas what I could to? I'd appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hi, I have a T440p running Windows10 (64-bit home edition) that I purchased new a few years ago and about a year ago I believe after a Windows update I started having the battery not charging problem where the AC adapter is plugged into the laptop but the battery isn't charging, and in fact while booted up only the battery is recognized, not the AC adapter (although the opposite is true when running off the AC adapter only). If I am running off the AC adapter only and insert the battery while booted up the laptop will suddenly switch to the battery as its power source and it also simultaneously stops recognizing the AC adapter as being still plugged into the the laptop. Initially I thought after doing some research on the internet my original battery was perhaps too old and I wound up replacing the battery twice with no luck. I also tried changing my AC adapter to the more powerful 4.5 amp version which I thought might fix the problem but that hasn't helped unfortunately. The battery charges fine (for all 3 my batteries now) when the laptop is turned off on either the docking station or when the AC adapter is plugged in and the battery holds a 3-4 hour charge when it is fully charged so I don't think I have a hardware problem. After going back to the internet and doing some more research I saw a lot of the same suggestions, reinstall the battery and AC adapter drivers in Windows (with various suggestions on how the reinstallation should proceed), change the power settings in ... Hi all really hoping someone has some insight on my issue im pretty desperate to keep this machine going for a long time!! So as the subject describes, my battery is plugged in but won't charge. I have seen many posts talking about a "Plugged in but not charging" message, I do not have this.  I have tried various troubleshooting methods, I have checked for updates, drivers, etc. I have also tried the power reset turing it off removing the external battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds. Wish I had more information but like I said I am desperate for any insights or suggestions! Thanks in advance

I get these frequent situations where the T440p is connected to AC power, using original adapter. The battery is at 22% or any other random number, it says "plugged in, not charging". This is annoying as you can imagine  If I disconnect the AC the icon now says not connected to AC.. plug it back, and I'm back to the plugged in but not charging. I'm on latest BIOS firmware, so far the only thing that helped was to remove the battery completely, for a few minutes, then let them in and then it keeps charing to 100%... Any help is much appreciated! Stormy.

Regarding this issue, please shutdown the system and remove the battery from the system, and switch on the system only with power adapter and go to device manager by right clicking the computer and select manage.

In device manager go to batteries option and expand it and right click on Microsoft ACPI and click on uninstall, after that shutdown the system and connect battery and switch on the system by connecting both battery and power adapter and check it, this should resolve the issue.

Hi, I've been using my Thinkpad T440p for only few months, When I plug in the charger, battery doesn't charge and doesn't show anything (as if the charger is not plugged in at all). - The charger itself is working.- If i removed the battery and botted the laptop with cahrger plugged in it works.- if the laptop is off and i plugged in the charger the battery will charge.- Whenever I plug in the charger while on battery, the power light blinks but without charging. I've tried to uninstall ACPI Power driver and didn't work, I've tried to update BIOS and it isn't possible as the update require both the battery and charger to be connected which is not possible. Please help

Hello Lenovo people! I have a frustrating battery issue question that probably has been answered somewhere in this long thread. But anyway, here goes. The battery on my Yoga 720-13IKB is discharging when plugged in. Ive tried every variation of battery software choice - best battery - best performance and in between, but doesnt seem to make any difference. The battery status in Lenovo Vantage shows that its good. I changed and purchased a new battery charger and still the issue persists. The only time it charges is when I shut down the laptop overnight and plug it in. Because its the Yoga 720-13IKB I cannot take the back off very easily as it held on by tiny scews that I dont have the tools to unscrew ( as in to reset the battery)  I'm thinking it must be a software issue - but I could be wrong? Any more expert opinions than mine would be super! Thanks in advance johnny

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Thank you

A:XPS 12 9Q23 Power Charging Disabled / Plugged in, NOT CHARGING

Hi DAEMONROD.
Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help
I hope you can ... Read more

A:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

My Lenovo G50-30 laptop has suddenly developed a funny problem.  When battery charger is introduced while laptop is on it says "plugged in but not charging" and battery keeps reducing, however battery charges when laptop is switched off. The problem has started happening from approx a 3-4 weeks back. My battery was under warranty and was replaced by Lenovo authorised center Jogeswari (West), Mumbai, India BUT still issue reamins the same.  Service center installed a software called OKO care which randomly allowed charging three times while laptop was ON. However this also did not permanently solve my problem and returned back to same issue hence un-installed software. Then had tried couple of other lenovo softwares (vantage, forgot name of anotehr one) but in vain.  Pls organise immediate help as I have exams starting September 19, 2019 and need laptop very badly for preparing and cant afford to switch off to recharge. Thank you in advance. FYI - There is no capping not to charge beyond 55-60% to safeguard battery. I have Windows 10 (64 bit OS), initial OS which came along with laptop was Windows 8.1 which automatically got upgraded to Windows 10. My laptop is always kept on auto update hence all latest updates are installed. I do not allow any unnecessary software installation.

A:Lenovo G50-30 Battery charging issue - "plugged in but not charging"

That sounds suspiciously like the laptop is in Airport Mode, which if enabled will prevent it from charging when on, yet charge when off, just like you describe.  You can find out via a command promptRight click on start and select Command Prompt (Admin)  -or- Windows PowerShell (Admin)  depending on your system configuration. At the prompt type:  powercfg /getactivescheme    and press EnterIf it comes back with something similar to the image below showing (Airplane) as the active scheme,  then that is likely the culprit. Click on Image to expandIf you find that it is enabled, at the same command prompt window type:  control powercfg.cpl   and press Enter to open the Power control panel applet, and then check to see if Airplane Mode is set as your current power plan. As a last resort, you can also type:  powercfg ?restoredefaultschemes  to reset the Windows power schemes to their default settings.  Best of luck,

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Hi Guys,I've seen many problems with battery "plugged in, not charging", but failed to find anyone with the same issue as mine.In my case internal battery is "plugged in, charging" but it is not. When I open the Power Manager I see that battery is in good condition, AC attached and everything is OK beside "current" which is on zero, so there is no electricity flowing. External battery can be charged, but is waiting for the internal one to be charged first so in the end it also doesn't work properly. For now I have disconnected external battery to work on the problem. Things I have tried:-Power gauge reset.-BIOS update.-Reset button on the bottom.-Changing BIOS settings.-Updating driver. Then uninstalling it and installing again.-Reinstalling Power Manager.I have no idea what can be the problem and unfortunately no way to check if other battery would have the same problem to exclude hardware issues. Has anyone came across similar issue or have any idea on how to solve it? Any hint would be greatly appreciated.Jules

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.
Thanks!

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

So at random, the laptop will stop charging and simply says 'plugged in, not charging'. Are there more permanent solutions than going into BIOS and disabling built-in battery? I'd hate for this to be a returning issue (this is the 2nd time this occurs). Thanks for any suggestions! I've browsed the fora and know also of some other solutions, but I'm not satisfied with having to solve something like this more than once. What if I don't notice it, and someday have to run out with 40% battery left? Not desirable, specially given the price of these laptops.

I am not sure if the battery is the problem, but it seems to be. When plugged in, the battery will not charge UNLESS the computer is shut down. Then it seems to charge. When turned back on, it might charge for a minute or two but then it's back to the message "plugged in, not charging." The battery life stays consistant when plugged in, it just won't charge any higher. At the moment it is stuck at 87% after dying on me this morning. I was working perfectly last night.  I have taken the battery out and turned the computer on with only the AC plugged in and it does work. My theory is it's the battery but I'm not sure.  The last thing I did was run a battery test and an AC adapter test through the UEFI menu. Both passed. Can someone please help? Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Thus:
1. The problem is som... Read more

My dell Inspiron 3420 bios version A09 suddenly stopped charging battery , and the power icon show this message(Plugged in and charging) but my battery does not charge.
I tested another charger and another battery but did not help.
Thinking that changing bios might  help,I am trying to change the bios but can't downgrade even i tried /forceit command.
I can access logic board if for troubleshooting someone could educate me about  voltages of sda, scl and dc jack connector to the board.
Kindly help me.

Hi.I have recently a charging problem with my X1C6.Yesterday, I have plugged the USB-C charger into the USB-C port. Then Windows repeatedly notices that the charger was plugged, then unplugged, then plugged (many events in Windows Event Viewer) and the Thunderbolt software (in systray keeps crashing/restarting).The problem continued even with the charger unplugged, even after a reboot. The charging orange LED was stuck "on" even with the charger unplugged (also with the computer off):Charging orange LED unplugged. I had to restart the computer and disable the internal battery in the BIOS to restore the computer to a normal state. In the Windows reliability monitor, I can see many Windows Hardware Error (related to USB-C UCM/USCI system : LKD_0x1D4_COMMAND_TIMEOUT_9_UcmUcsiAcpiClient_UcmUcsiCx!UcmUcsiCx::CxDevice::UnrecoverableFailureEncountered) and many Thunderbolt software and services crashes. The battery was already replaced due to another problem (random 0% charge level reporting). This charging problem had happened with the old one and the new one. Anybody had already encountered this problem ?Do you think it's a rather a USCI/EC/BIOS firmware problem or a faulty hardware ?I think I will ask a motherboard replacement under warranty.

Started up my laptop and error message, battery out of memory. Hit enter to resart computer. Went to check on battery level and said plugged in not charging. Not sure what this means and how to fix the issue. I've had the laptop since Febuary 2015 with no issues.

I have a five-month-old Pavilion 13X360 PC (product number G6S88UA) and I upgraded to Windows 10 within the first month without any problem.   Yesterday, I received the message "78% available; plugged in, not charging".    The light at the power source blinks constantly, even when the power is off and when I unplug it,  the computer shuts off.   The power cable came out of its socket unbeknownst to me, and now it says 8% available.  I know this problem has appeared before with different answers and different levels of success.   Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem on this computer.   I look forward to your response.  Thank you.

Hi, I have a dv7-3111ea notebook and i get this message "plugged in, not charging" i replaced my battery with a new one but still says "plugged in, not charging" most of the time? ps does a new battery have to be calibrated? because i brought a new hp battery and when tested the battery with hp battery tester in the boot menu, the battery test failed and the when i tryed to do it again, it started to caliberate. why did that happen when it's a new battery???

A:plugged in, not charging

No, a new battery does not need calibrating. If you leave the laptop turned off but plugged in overnight, does it charge the battery to full?

I bought a dell inspiron for my (teenage) daughter about a year ago, a few months after the charger wasn't being recognized. It said it needed a 50 watt charger, but the one I had was 55 watts. We kept it plugged in even though it wasn't charging because she needed to use the laptop. Everything was slow though... it said system performance would slow down which ***. I've bought a bunch of new chargers. All 50+ watts. All have the same problem. After a while for the battery it said "no battery detected" even though there WAS a battery in there. I bought a new charger and a new battery yesterday. The battery I put in was at about 35% charge and was recognized. However, when I plugged in the charger, it said plugged in not charging. Again, we (she) kept it in because she does use this laptop quite frequently. Today I noticed that AGAIN, no battery was detected. I am annoyed and we are going to take the laptop in (hopefully) for repairs tomorrow. I don't know if I'm currently going to be able to afford it. What is the issue?

A:Plugged in not charging

Only OEM Dell adapters will charge the battery.  If you've tried more than one OEM adapter, the problem is with the DC jack (next thing to replace;  if you need the part reference, we'll need the full model number - i.e., Inspiron 3552, etc.).
If the jack doesn't get the adapter recognized,  then the issue is likely with the mainboard.
