thinking of setting up web site just for images to support another site

Q: thinking of setting up web site just for images to support another site

Didn't know how to title this issue...basically, here's the deal: I have a school web site, on [email protected], which has a maximum of 10mb on the site. This is a constant battle trying to keep it under the 10 mgs, with all the photos and whatnot I like to put up there. I was thinking that I still have another three or four sites on my account; why don't I set up one site which is just the images, and link it to the other site. Wouldn't it be transparent? I mean, if I set up a hyperlink on the main site, wouldn't visitors just cruise back and forth at will without any hassle? And that way, I'd have much more space for images.

Please advise...it seems too easy...am I missing something?

p.s. I use front page 2002 from office xp suite (professional )

Preferred Solution: thinking of setting up web site just for images to support another site

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: thinking of setting up web site just for images to support another site

I don't think you're missing anything. This is common practice. Most of the images on this page came from another site. Ads almost always do. There's nothing that says that the image links in your html can't load images from elsewhere. The ability to bring many disparate objects from various sources together on one web page is the reason html was designed the way it was.

Sounds like you have a good solution to your problem.

I have the last version of Java, latest Flash Player, I tried opening the images in Mozila Firefox and Google Chroome and it doesnt work.

Again, I lean on you guys for help as I can't get an answer anywhere else.

I have a website at http://lehman1970.tripod.com

While the images always viewed in IE for me, several people contacted me and said the images don't show up.

Now, suddenly, I don't get them either, although they show up in netscape. Yet others w/IE DO get the images.

I have gone through every option in my tools - to see if something changed... but can't seem to find anything wrong.

One question is: I have a counter on the site from Fast Count. I mailed them at one time to tell them that the counter image often does not show up, while the rest of the images did. They responded & said they were having some problems on their end. Could that counter code be messing up other images?

I just don't understand why some people with IE can get the images, some can't, and why I did get them and suddenly can't. The html code is correct and the image alt tags are expanded.

I have windows '98 2nd edition and IE version 5.50. Is there anyway to fix this or anything in tools/options that I'm missing? I need to add that the above is the ONLY site that won't display the images. All other images disply fine.

Thank you so much for your time, it is truly appreciated.

A:Images don't show on one site but used to...

Could it be the site that's hosting your page?

I have Win98SE and IE 5.5 and I could see everything fine. Maybe whoever was hosting your files was having a hard time on their end.

I recently bought a new computer that has a Gigabyte NVIDIA GetForce FX5200 video card. I have windows XP, Internet Explorer. When I use the Internet, I see grainy looking images for logos that display on websites, such as the book images you see next to titles on Amazon. I recently downloaded the recent drivers for this card and the system says it is working properly. The color quality setting is set at 32 bit Highest Quality. The effect I'm getting is probably what you see if the color quality setting was set at 16 or 8 bit. I ruled out my monitor because my old computer using the same monitor does not display these grainy looking website images. Screen images outside of the Internet on the new computer look just fine, so it seems to be just isolated to when I'm looking at internet web sites. Any help or clues to resolve this issue is appreciated. Thanks.

I am trying to reduce the size of a web page I created because it says it will take five minutes to open on a 56K modem. How can I reduce the size of all my jpeg's as far as possible while still maintaining decent quality. Would it be better if they were all thumbnails?

A:how do I reduce size of images for a web site?

depends what the pics are

try experimenting with the thumbnail settings
- 250 wide
- 200 wide

can you split the pages up more - less info/graphics per page
- make 3 or 4 pages instead of one big one?

i try to keep the page load under a minute - more like 30 - 40 seconds - at 56k

can you upload a sample website/page for a look? and post the url?

btw - just noticed a few other posts and replies - will get to them in the next little while - still early in mountain time
also - maybe keep them all in one forum - development usually - so they don't get missed and you get consistent responses

I recently acquired a problem whereby images on one particular website I visit have stopped appearing completely.
I already know it is not due to anything on their end.
This occurs in both Firefox and I.E., so it doesn't "appear" to be a browser issue.
Everywhere else I visit on the web displays them fine.

The site in question did recently undergo an upgrade, but everybody else has no problems....just me.

Did a system restore back 2 restore points to no avail.

Could their upgrade have possibly touched something my Windows XP doesn't agree with?

I'm at a loss to explain how this happened.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

First, sorry if this is in the wrong section. I looked through the forum topics and this was the closest to my personal issue.

A friend has asked me to setup an FTP site for him on my server. I'm running Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6.0.

I was able to create an FTP site for him with the root directory, but the problem is I have no idea how to connect to the site remotely. I usually enter in the IP address in my browser like so:

This takes me to the default FTP site, which is fine for me because I use it all the time, but not for my friend. He wants a private one that only he can access (I also want to keep him from accessing anything other than his site).

I setup his directory under C:\Inetpub\my_friends_FTP_site, which is in the same folder as the default (C:\Inetpub\ftproot).

Also, I had to set the port number for his site to 22 (default: 21) because it told me it could not start the site so long as another site is already using the same IP address and port number, and that I have to change one of them.

The site's up and running, and I've created an account for him, but I don't know how to access it remotely (even if I enter his username and password, it still takes me to the default site). Any advice?

Ws_Ftp is not an FTP server, you need a server like Bulletproof FTP or Guild FTP.

You need to be online to run any kind of server, doesn't matter if its kazaa or FTP.

I have Firefox installed on two different Windows 7 machines, and also in a Linux Mint that is installed as a dual boot on one of the Wim-7 boxes.

Maybe as long as a couple of months ago, I noticed that on a web site for one of the local TV stations, virtually none of the images that were contained in the site were being rendered. At the moment, the only exceptions to the failure to render are a footer image at the bottom of the home page that shows several of the station reporters, and a little slide show window that you can scroll through images submitted by viewers. Other than that, everything that should show an image or a "click to view this video" is completely blank.

This behavior occurs on both Windows machines, but in Linux the problem does not show up. All three instances of Firefox are up to date, and the installed add-ons are the same on the Windows machines. There is absolutely no sign of the problem on any other web site I have visited. The site that is giving me problems is http://www.localsyr.com/

My first thought was to go through and disable each add-on individually, to see whether I could trace the problem to one of them. No change whatsoever. I didn't go through the same drill with the plug-ins, mostly because I have a really hard time believing that any of them are relevant to the problem. But, I suppose I should try it anyway.

I've also tried restarting in Safe Mode, and that does restore the image data. Question is, if that work... Read more

I have a freewebspace.com site and want to put an image of a newsletter I produce into it. I write the newsletter in MSPublisher2000 and can convert it to an HTML file without problems, but when I try to transfer it to the site via the file manager I end up with an empty box with the dreaded little red cross in one corner. The newsletter contains text and overlapping images. I made up a simple test file with some images and some text, none of it overlapping, and what I got on the site was the text looking as it should and red crosses in boxes in place of the images, so it must be the imbedded images that cause the problem.
Anyone got any ideas? Love to hear them as the only way I have found to get the newsletter into the site is to print a hard copy, scan and save it as a JPEG image and insert that as an image. This works, but is not as clear as an HTML would be.

A:problems setting up an ftp site

Well, if it's a dynamic IP address, one thing you'll need is a service like DynDNS to map a constant URL to the public IP address. Other than that, port forwarding the proper ports through the router is about the only other thing you need to do. Obviously, also allowing them through any firewall on the server as well...

I had been having problems such as redirecting google links to happili.com and nginx 404, which were cleared up by a thread I created earlier. Ran Malwarebytes to death, TDSSkiller, and aswMBR, as well as ESET online scanner and mini toolbox. There are still a couple problems that remain though.

1) Images refusing to show on specific sites. When I right-click and view the images, it leads to a nginx 403 forbidden site. This seems to specifically affect the sites mangafox.com and mangareader.com, where some images show and some don't. The ones that don't are tabs that I have had open while I started getting viruses and whatnot.

2) Getting logged out of websites where I checked the "stay logged on/save session" option. Yahoo, this site, I have to re-log into a site every time I close out of the browser.

Both these problems affect Firefox and Chrome. Help is much appreciated.

I have setup a Site-to-Site VPN using Sophos UTM at each end. I set up an Ubuntu VM as a WINS Server using Samba.

So far so good. VPN Works.

My problem is with the WINS Server. I have taken two Windows 10 computers and for both of them added the IP of the WINS server under Advanced TCP/IP Settings and changed NetBIOS to Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

The results are close but not quite right. The two computers with the modified settings can now ping each other using computer name rather than IP. Other computers on each end of the VPN can not do that.

That said neither computer shows up in the Networks of the other. This is what I am trying to fix.

It appears that name resolution is working for the computers that check in with the WINS server but that the Windows 10 browsing service is not adding those computers to the network.

The LANs are and the WINS server is on and it comes back as __MSBROWSE__ for that network. For the computer that connects to the WINS server is showing __MSBROWSE__ when I check with nbtstat.

When I check services Computer Browser is running.

Can someone help me or at least point me in the right direction? This really shouldn't be this hard so I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

I'm not sure exactly if I have a Trojan horse I can't get rid of, or I changed some setting accidentally. For months now, I have had the same issue. All websites that should display an ad by doubleclick or others, show up as "Oops! This link appears broken. DNS error - cannot find server" or "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

I have attached two pictures of the issue from Amazon.com. First example is from CHROME, second from IE.

This happens on IE and Google Chrome. When this happens and I hit the BACK button on the IE, the website never goes back -- I have to hit back several times (it appears the DNS error ads are interfering).

I have run my anti virus software, trojan removal software, adware, and this problem persists. Does anyone have any idea what this could be and how I could fix it?

Thanks everyone!

I might have 50 web site tabs and am looking at one of them. All of a sudden, another web site starts with a voice and I can't determine which tab it's on. Trying to listen to two sites (or more) is ridiculous. How can I find the offending web site?

Also, some web sites will present and audio "story" which cannot be paused or stopped (unless you close the page). Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you.......

A:How find web site that is making voice sounds when site not in focus

Open Volume Mixer (right click Volume icon in notification area) and mute the whichever you want. The pages with sound will have green volume bar moving up and down.

Hi Guys,

I've done a fair amount of googling before referring myself to W10 Forums.. I hope this helps someone else in the process. Since rolling out Windows 10 we've noticed users are having difficulty accessing their personal user data drives, via File Explorer. Let me make a scenario which is understandable.

In Site 1 (HQ), we can connect to the file server (e.g access 1FS without any issues- Where user data is stored)
In the remote site (Site 2), we can do the same (e.g 2FS)

At our HQ, when running Windows 7, we are able to File Explore to 2FS but since the upgrade we're unable to. This occurs both ways.

We can ping our servers, and remote desktop.

Server infrastructure:
VMWare ESX 5
File servers in question are Windows Server 2008
ONLY Windows server 2008 R2 servers have the issue, (2008 Standard edition is fine) all patches have been applied via WSUS.

Can anybody shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance,

IT Apprentice

Hello all,

Good to join this forum

Anyway, Please can someone support me regarding connecting a Windows Server 2008 standard that needs to connect to another Windows server in another country outside of UK (Site B). The ports 1433 and 3030 are also open in the firewall and also the Draytek 2830n router, therefore I can see the ports open via yougetsignal.com. We have 1 public (Static) IP address from BT that is already in the Draytek router on Site A (UK).

How is the simplest or easiest way to connect these 2 Window servers so a management program that uses MySQL Database server can talk to the Site B server or vice-versa) Both sites have a Public IP address.

Can this be done by the WIndows firewall inbound rules / outbound rules where the port 1433 is set. There is an option to enter a Remote IP address under 'scope' which I assume is the Site B's public IP address within the inbound firewall properties.

The other way is the VPN on the Draytek 2830n. There is an option for Lan to Lan using IPSec but not sure the best settings for Dial-out or Dial-in. There is usernames and passwords that not sure of including the Remote gateway or Remote IP to use

We have 2 different routers on Site A and Site B are not the same.

Thanks Guys

I may not have this under the correct section and please keep in mind that I am not a programmer but here goes.

I am trying to add a hyperlink in Outlook 2007 signature file that will open a child site, but the child site seems to need some personalized information in the cache that comes from opening a parent site first:

Parent site: http://www.mywildtree.com/chad/
Child Site: http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/catalog.aspx

When the child site is opened directly (without opening parent first) it loads forever. The parent site does not require any authenication it just has to be opened first and then the child site operates correctly.

Is there a simple way to have one hyperlink either a) open two sites one after the other in the same window? or b) open the childsite with a parent site dependancy (tag?, bookmark?) on the hyperlink?

I have been on google searching all afternoon and haven't had any luck yet so any help is appreciated.

Thank you

A:Hyperlink syntax to open a parent site and then child site

Welcome to Seven Forums chadseeg. The Shop Now link shows as actually being http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/preshop.aspx, and this appears to redirect to http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/catalog.aspx.

Firefox blames the redirection

It looks like the script on the page is written to specifically prevent going directly to the shopping catalog without going through the home page. I'm not a webmaster, so I am unsure if this is intentional or not. A Guy

Hi, I'm a complete network newb, but am helping out a Montessori school with their issues. Hopefully someone can help.
Site A has the main WAN link coming in to a Cisco 1841 router, then going to a Sonicwall appliance, then to a 24 port unmanaged switch.
There is also a point to point link to site B. This has another Cisco 1841 router on each end of the link. At site A, it's also plugged into the 24 port switch, and plugged into another 24 port switch at site B. There is a DC with DNS and DHCP at site A, and a DHCP server at Site B. Site A's IP achema is 192.168.1.x, and site B is 192.168.2.x, with subnet masks of The circuit sides of the point to point connection is & 2.
The problem they've been having for the last month or so is that the connection at site B would drop all together, or be very slow and sporadic. Yesterday, I tried downloading a 4mb file from the internet, and couldn't get the whole thing, even after trying for an hour, it kept timing out.
Downloading the same file from site A, I was done in 20 seconds.

Here's the wierd part. If I do a tracert from site A to site B's server, it sometimes works, meaning it'll trace in a couple hops to the server. When it doesn't, it tries to route out over the internet, with the first hop being a 162.42 address, which is the service provider.

Century Link says the point-to-point T1 circuit is fine, but am reaching out to see if anyone can give me a hand... Read more

In attempting to prepare a trifold document I want to has a background color on just one of the columns. When I click on "background" the whole page is filled.

A:Looking For Support Site For Word 2000

I'm assuming you're talking about columns in a table, right?
On the main Word menu you have a Table pulldown. Everything related to tables is there.

Here's another way: select a column of the table, right click, select Shading and borders (or very similar formatting command), pick the color and you're good to go.
I'm not in front of 2000 right now, but it might be select the column and then Format.

Selecting the column is the roughest part, as often either a whole table or just one cell gets selected, so you need to do a bit of mousework to get it right

If you're not talking about a table, but a column of a 3-column page, then I have no clue. Perhaps you can just select the text in that column and give it some background or highlight.

Hi, I have a malware help request in progress over at Lavasoft but the support site has been down all morning. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything? Perhaps someone from Lavasoft who is reading this?

A:Lavasoft support site is down - anyone know for how long?

You might try Galadriel, who runs tutorials here and has had a lot of value to say on system protection. Here are some of Galadriel's most recent posts. I was surprised to see that Galadriel is no longer recommending AdAware, preferring Microsoft.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...p;hl=&st=25Incidentally, check your scanner to see what internet browser and search engine it has on your settings page. Mine keeps resetting to MSN, and it is only with great difficulty that I get it to accept my Firefox settings. I don't even use MSN; I use IE7 occasionally.and no, I'm not a techie. Haven't really been to the AdAware site yet. I use the free version--maybe that's the problem!

About this time last year flrman1 helped me remove the "About:Blank" spyware scourge from my computer. My computer has been clean since then but it is only a matter of time. When that time comes I want this site up and ready to help. I just made another donation and urge everyone else who benefits from this site to do the same.

Try installing the IE Tab extension. That way you can view IE within Firefox. Is the only way I can see the entire page of a Micr$oft article.
