Q: Edge 2. Touchscreen, keyboard, touchpad, speakers,...

Hello, I bought an Edge 2 1580 last month. All of a sudden the items in the subject stopped working and the fan runs full blast. I think it happened at the same time as a windows 10 update so I tried a roll back but that didn't fix anything. Any chance this is fixable? I see many threads about the keyboard and touchpad going out on other models.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just had the same problem with my Flex 3 1580. It is at Lenovo being repaired as of yesterday. My computer was fine and the next day booted up and fan runs full speed , touchpad didn't work, wifi didnt work, and the keyboard would only output "6" no matter what key i pressed (only 4 keys produced other output such as "s" or "w"). The onscreen keyboard worked though. What is the status with yours?

Yesterday, after restarting my PC to finish updates from Windows, and installations from Autodesk and MATLab, my keyboard, touch pad and wireless mouse stopped working. After checking the drivers, I found that the keyboard and mouse drivers had a code 32. So I did a system restore before all the updates. Did nothing for the drivers.I tried uninstalling, updating the drivers; didn't work. Then I used CCleaner to clean up registry errors. No changes.Next, I went into the registry and deleted the UpperFilter values for the keyboard and mouse drivers. Code 32 was gone for HID keyboard driver and the HID mouse driver. But now the ps/2 keyboard driver and the synaptics smbus driver now had a code 10.After removing and reconnecting my wireless mouse's usb, I noticed that fixed drivers come and go with it, so I tried to find the drivers for the mouse to try a manual reinstall for my mouse. Couldn't find them, (Logitech's website was of no help). So I got Driver Booster to help me. The program said my PC had a lot of outdated drivers, so I decided to let the program update them all in hopes it would fix both the code 10 and let my mouse work again. And that's how the touchscreen stopped responding. Driver Booster had paused while downloading the driver for the Bluetooth as Windows Defenders stopped it. When I tried to allow the download, I notice my only method of interacting with my PC had failed.I force shut down the PC in hopes that the problem would be fixed. Didn't work.So now, I can... UPDATE:Okay, I found that there was a way to force the PC into recovery mode without any buttons.I took out the battery, forced a shut down, and unplugged the power cord when I turned it on. After replugging the power and powering up, it went into recovery.Touchscreen and keyboard worked in recovery mode, was too excited to test TouchPad and mice.Anyways, I'm resetting the PC now. Hopefully this fixes it all.I'm somewhat leary of doing updates, however. Reading around online, some had this issue for their keyboards and mice due to Windows 10 hybrid shutdown and fast startup. I'm going to try to turn that off, update everything, and hope that fixes everything. Will update status later.Hope anyone having similar issues find this useful.

I bought this laptop brand new two years ago and have had very minimal problems in that time. However, the keyboard has begun typing letters or numbers that do not correspond to the keys that I touch. Most keys result in the letter 6 being displayed. For example, I will type the previous sentence again but using the keyboard: 6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666. In addition to that, the touchpad is completely nonfunctioning. The cursor is not displayed anywhere on the screen and the touchpad is unresponsive. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

1 month old edge 2 1580, keyboard, touchpad/volume/mute/buttons suddenly stop working and the fan works full speed. The touchscreen works. The keyboard types just 1, 6, 2, x, w and q randomly. It doesn't work in BIOS either. The volume and mute buttons do not respond but it does sound if I plug some headphones to the jack port.  I have runned the hardware and device trouble shooter and adviced me to restart. Nothing really changed. Everything looks just right in the Device manadgement tree so I am guessing drivers are fine.

I have been like this for two days. I had it on and open in front of me and it suddendly turned off by itself.  It wouldn't react to the on/off button until I connected it to the charger. Then I managed to turn it on and everything seems to work just fine. The touchpad seems fine, the keyboard and the speakers too. Regardless of the charger being connected or not. I'll keep you posted if anything else happens, but I have no explanation for this

Also the keyboard and touchpad are not responding at all but the touch screen is. A usb keyboard/mouse works just fine.

My touchscreen suddenly stopped functioning.  No known update recently - have been running Windows 10 for months now with no problem.  When I went into my device manager, I noticed that the "HID-compliant touchscreen" under the Human Interface Devices dropdown is hidden. When I find it by showing hidden devices, there are no drivers there for it (the box just says that "no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device"), so something must have removed it. Any idea how to get those drivers back so that my touchscreen will function again?  It's like my PC doesn't recognize that my display should be touchscreen capable.  I don't even have a calibrate

I got my Lenovo Edge  15 back earlier this year from service (hard drive fixed) but when it was returned to me the touch screen no longer worked. There is no touch screen driver visible on the device manager either, nothing labled touch screen or anything similair, is there a way to re-isntall the touchscreen? This laptop was a 2 in one, tablet/laptop and used to be touch screen compatible / usable now it doesn't seem to work that way at all.

I bought the PC in July 2015 and it had to be returned to HP 3 times! Firstly the hard drive failed in autumn 2015 and was replaced. The keyboard was failing in june 2016 and was replaced. The touchpad was not working properly in July 2016 and was replaced. It is now conveniently for HP out of warranty after more than 1 year and is worse than ever. The cursor is constantly not responding to the touchpad touch and constantly disappears, it also jumps around the screen. The touchpad was replaced in July 2016 and still doesn't work. Occasionally the touchscreen will fail to respond to touch.

Hello!
I am very frustrated and angry! My left mouse button keeps malfunctioning, stops working intermittently, I click it and nothing. Then several minutes later it will work again. My cursor jumps around the page, so in the middle of typing it screws up. The scroll keeps locking, if I try to use the touchpad to move the cursor around the screen the scroll is locked and the page scrolls fast and randomly highlights everything. If that wasn't annoying enough when I try to close tabs in a browser (Chrome or IE) the tab is locked and won't close my mouse/cursor just drag it around and I can't unlock. If all that wasn't annoying enough my touch screen is not working properly either, I touch the screen and nothing and then occassionally it decides to work but does crazy stuff like bringing up the on screen keyboard and when I try to click the x to close it by touching it or using the cursor and mouse nothing, and after 20 clicks if I am lucky it will finally respond and close.

I've had this computer for nearly 3 years now and it has served as a somewhat problem free laptop minus some problems with the ram and charger. This problem started after I got my laptop back from dell support after they replaced all the internal hardware, about 3 months ago.. They gave me a clean OS install, but installed windows 8 on it, because that was the original software that came with it. After arguing on the phone for about 2 hours with a stubborn technician, he finally agreed to install windows 10 for me. After going through some shady websites, he downloaded it onto a USB and everything installed. I later realised that the copy of windows was not genuine even though I had paid for everything. Pointing it out to the technician, He told me the certificate would activate later. It never happened and I ended up paying again for a product key.
A little while later, the synaptics touchpad driver kept crashing after reboots, and I realised that I would have to reboot my computer twice. This has been going on for about 3 months now. Then, two days ago, all of a sudden, my touchpad AND touchscreen stopped working. Nothing seems to fix it, even a full reboot (sometimes). Once it starts working for no apparent reason, it stops working again at random times. Times working range from 20 seconds to 5 minutes. I have the power switch set to hibernate and hibernating and waking it up seems to sometimes get the touchpad and touchscreen working, but it suddenly stops working lat... Read more

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

Hello guys,
I recently bought a Dell I15 5557 with touchscreen and I got a issue with its touchpad.
There is an option in Windows 10 which turns off the touchpad when an external mouse is present, but it appears that the touchscreen also counts as an external mouse. As a result, the touchpad is always disabled when this option is turned on, even if an external mouse is not connected.
Is there any way to automatically disable the touchpad when an external mouse is connected and the notebook have a touchscreen?
Thanks in advance

It seems that Alps Touchpad isn't fully compatible with Windows 10 given that it couldn't scroll properly on MS Edge. The mouse can scroll, but it scrolls like a snail, like I'm scrolling a backgound application. Indeed, it seems that the touchpad sees MS Edge a background app even though it is in the foreground because if I put Edge as actually a background app and another program (e.g. video player) in the foreground, MS Edge scrolls well without any issue. It seems that Alps sees MS applications as this: foreground app is background app; background app is a foreground app. I hope HP or Alps will provide an updated driver.

Been navigating a few different forums quite a bit for this one.We downgraded this Lenovo E431 to windows 7 to fit our corporate environment. There is no disable option in the BIOS.The windows 7 drivers do not add the UltraNAV tab. Always fails on the 3rd portion as the 2 green check marks pass on the first 2 components and fail on the 3rd.  Ran under both the user and admin accounts. No other missing drivers. The device manager does not show any touchpad drivers aside from a "universal" mouse driver which can not be uninstalled.Registry mod will not change this. Aside from pulling the ribbon cable out I am sort of at a loss.  First time ever being stumped by a touchpad.....Last time ever buying an E431 for our environment, we've had 3 of these so far and nothing but issues. Sticking with other Lenovo models. Any ideas?

A:Thinkpad Edge E431 - how to disable the touchpad?

I realize this is an old question, but my reply may help some with the same new question.  There's a quick answer for those who know what they are doing and a longer answer for those who don't. On my Lenovo Edge 2-1580 I couldn't turn off the detestable touch pad.  Here's the part you know:Because this is a Synaptics touchpad, the option to disable it if an external mouse is connected, simply isn't there.   You also might know that if you go into regedit and look for  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change the value to 33 it should work ... but doesn't. What I found is if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh and change THAT value to 33, reboot your computer, it does indeed work!  Pull the receiver from the USB port and the touchpad starts working again! For those not familiar with regedit, your best option is to find someone who is and have them do it because editing the registry is not something you want to be doing if you don't know what you're doing. To give you an idea of how dangerous it is, read this article on what the registry is and how your computer can stop working if you mess it up, http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/what-everybody-should-know-about-windows-registry.htm Now that I've scared the newbies and made them understand how critical it is, it isn't difficult to do this little fix if you can follow instructions.  So here are the step by step instructions for you.&nbs... So I've noticed today that the upper edge of my laptop's touchpad seems to be rising slightly as if something is pushing it up from behind. I can push it back in, but it just comes up again. Initially I was worried I had a swelling battery, since the battery is situated in that area. But I opened up the laptop to check, and the battery shows no signs to distortion at all. My best guess now is that it might be a problem with whatever adhesive Dell used to glue it down.

I've had my Yoga 900 for just a little while (got it the day that showed up in stores). I love it, save for one thing. One time, it got into this mode where touches would randomly appear on the screen (the little dot you get when you do a touch). At the same time, random keys seemed like they were being pressed. And you'd press the keys on the keyboard but they'd give you a totally different keystroke than they were supposed to. This persisted through two whole reboots. But it wouldn't happen 100% of the time. It'd be fine for a few minutes, then start doing it again. I managed to get a BIOS update in and a reboot, and the problem seemed to go away. But then in the last day or two, it has come back, albeit much much less horrifically. They'll be a stray touch on the screen with my hands nowhere near it (I'm almost always in laptop mode). Or something weird will happen like my browser will open a new tab that there's no good reason for. All of these might be phantom touches, but some could be phantom keys as well. Anyone else run into this? It seems like it's probably the hardware, though I can't rule out software.

My mouse, keyboard and touchscreen are all not responsive.  To isolate the issue, i tried my unifying receiver on another PC and it is working.  I am thinking my drivers perhaps got messed up.

Hi,
The Lenovo Y50-70 laptop has big problem with a sharp edge on the keyboard.  It truly is a problem and I have to hold a towel or something on the edge so I can use the keyboard.  I found on this forum that other people have the same problem with their same model.  The issue was considered to be "solved" and a "Tip" number was given and we were to contact Lenovo.  Well, I am having NO luck finding a way to give the number to Lenovo service.
My computer is now out of warranty BUT the edge has been a problem for people from day one.  I, embarrassingly, did not think to contact Lenovo or check online until tonight...  Anyway, there supposedly is an answer to the problem but I don't know how to get the tip number to Lenovo.  Here is the  Service TIP SF15-I0013/ HT103489.

The point is that this notebook can be used in three different modes.
1) tablet mode -> the keyboard and touchpad are pulled in and only touchscreen can be used
2) laptop mode -> the keyboard and touchpad are pulled out
3) photography mode -> keyboard is pulled in but touchpad is pulled out and can be used as well as the touchscreen.

I?m not quite sure if the ?orientation lock button? (on the left side) would affect the touchscreen but fact is that using this button the automatic rotation of the screen orientation can be enabled or disabled.
If you are operating the computer in laptop or in photography mode, the screen orientation will always be in Landscape mode.

Please check also if the touch display has been calibrated properly
Go to control panel (win key + x control panel) -> Tablet PC settings

Here you will find the first tab called ?Display?
Click on ?Setup? button to start the setup where you could identify the touchscreen
In bottom area called ?display options? you could calibrate the touch display.

I've got a new Edge 2 1580.  Everything was good for the first week or so.  I haven't been shutting it down, I've just been letting it go to sleep/hibernate.  Last night I picked it up and noticed that the fan was running.  Upon opening it, I was unable to log in, but couldn't figure out why.  I switched to the onscreen keyboard and was able to log in.  The mouse/trackpad wasn't responding at all.  I opened Chrome and attempted to search for something and realized that no matter what key I pressed on the keyboard, all it would type was 6's.  (which would explain why my password was incorrect). I decided to reboot the laptop and see what would happen, but it doesn't appear to actually shut down.  Even when I click Shut down (well tap on the screen) - the screen goes dark, power button continues to blink slowly. This is a brand new laptop, and my first experience with Lenovo - but it's about to go back to the store.  I can't even find much information about the Edge 2 1580 at all, almost like it's a really out of date machine - but it's got the brand new chipset that was just introduced in November, and it came pre-installed with Windows 10, so it can't be that old. Makes me want to fire up my 9 year old Dell D620 running Windows XP - it still works perfectly.

A:Edge 2 1580 keyboard will only type a 6

BestBuy declared the laptop defective and gave me a new one.  We'll see how well the new one works, I haven't had a chance to even boot it up yet.

I've only had my Edge 2 for about two month and now the keyboard doesn't work.  I don't know if this provides a clue, but if I have the cursor in notepad and press the ctrl key, a time/date stamp appears.  If I press the 4 or 5 key, the find window opens.  Pressing the "Num Lock" acts like a tab, moving the cursor a number of spaces to the right.  The function key "Fn" results in a tilde or accent mark in notepad. Any suggestions on how to fix this?  Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, Had my Thinkpad Edge E450, for more than a year now. Never really had any problems with the keyboard. However, since yesterday, my keyboard has simply gone crazy on me. Right shift + c no longer registers, even though right shift + any other key still works. c works too along with c+ left shift. w+e keys, when pressed together doesn't register the e although both keys registers fine when pressed individually. Most weird of all is the fact that F4, associated with microphone no longer works either when FN is locked and when it isn't. However, every time I press the G key, the microphone activates/deactivates. I used the lenovo diagnostics tool and the keyboard passed the tests. Tried clean install windows 10 on the whole system and still the same result. Also tried uninstalling all drivers for keyboard in device manager and it still hasn't gotten any better. I didn't do any manual updates or anything that I know of which could affect the keyboard. Please help! That microphone popup is trying to hog my attention whenever I try to write a paper.

Edge, Microsoft's new browser, might be a rough diamond and you can make the most of it with a list of shortcuts we have compiled.

Keyboard shortcuts remain an essential tool for any computer user looking to improve their productivity, something not available on tablets or smartphones.

While the growing popularity of touchscreen computers means that some shortcuts are redundant, many will still prefer to use them because, well, they feel more natural and are usually a faster way of getting things done.

If you think we have missed some shortcuts, let us know in the comments.
