Precision 3620 BIOS update issue.

Q: Precision 3620 BIOS update issue.

Hello Everyone,
I updated my P3620 bios yesterday to v2.3.0 and since my SATA PowerVault RD1000 has quit working. I can see it in the bios as a "Dell" drive, but Windows 10 can't detect it. It may be being caused by the bios drive controller being set to "RAID ON" instead of AHCI. I can't remember if it originally was set to AHCI, or not. If I try to change to AHCI, windows won't load and tries to go into repair mode. Switching back to RAID ON, and system boots fine, but no RD1000.
Just to rule out a freak hardware issue, I have swapped out the SATA cable and RD1000 with spares, but no joy. External USB RD1000 works fine.
So, any ideas? Is there a way to roll the BIOS back? Should I switch to a gluten-free diet? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,

Preferred Solution: Precision 3620 BIOS update issue.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Last night i was updating the bios on this 3620 and it froze at 100%, after 30 minutes or so i forced to reboot.
Now always as an Amber light blinking when i connect the power cable and only the fan starts to spin for a few seconds and turn off in a loop.
I already try CMOS reset - nothing
Jumper in service mode - nothing
Is there any way to flash a bios from an USB drive. I've been reading a lot of foruns and all talk of some switch /writeromfile but doesn't work on this dell bios setup.
Does any one have an idea for me to try?

Thank you very much

I have done a clean install of Windows 10 Pro on a Precision 3600 and everything works great except the bios will not update. I have tried by just installing the file, using Dell precision optimizer, and all gets stuck on the restart phase. Is there any suggestion on getting the PC to update the BIOS ?

Thank you.

A:Precision T3600, BIOS Update issue

What BIOS version is currently installed? What BIOS version are you trying to install? You should install them in order, oldest to newest.

Note, I only update the BIOS to fix a specific issue. I never update the BIOS just because there is a new one listed.
Desktop Instructions =- Disconnect all peripherals from the desktop except for monitor, mouse, and keyboard- Close all unnecessary applications- Download the BIOS to the windows desktop- Run the BIOS- You must allow the BIOS itself to restart the computer. Do NOT force a restart manually. This could break the motherboard

I have a new lab of 32 Precision Towers, they are running Windows 10 1703 education and have the Quadro P2000 graphics card installed. Connecting to a Dell P2417H monitor.
The problem I am having is that most of the systems will not wake up from sleep they have to be turned on and off to power on. Some of the systems that do wake up do so with a fuzzy screen.
This has happened straight out of the box and after I have built a new Education Windows 1703 image. All device drivers have been updated to the latest version. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've been setting up a Precision 3620.  Everything worked well for about 3 days.  The last step was populating user data from an external drive via USB.   When I returned to the machine the copy had finished, but programs wouldn't launch - for example Firefox said that it was already running, but the process didn't even show in task manager.   Some sort of Dell "Command update" window was flashing.
A reboot just resulted in a hung desktop: the hourglass showed on the task bar and nothing could be selected.  Task manager hung with a blank window.
I still had the firewall on, so I couldn't attach with event viewer from another computer.   But I did have a drive mapped.  I saw some Windows Update activity logged, but couldn't see if it was just checking or if there was an actual update.
I'm giving up and resetting to the factory OS.
All this just to compare notes in case it turns out to be a bad Windows or Dell update.   I'll definitely checkpoint the install.
Oh, and the Boot CD wouldn't recognize the Bitlocker recovery key even though the Bitlocker ID matched.   Guess I'll have to go without Bitlocker on that PC.

I’m purchasing a Precision 3620 Tower with 365W PSU
I want to install a GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GPU (120W) that requires a 6-pin power connection.
The Dell Engineering Specifications Manual for the 3620 Tower says this:
Supports up to 150W Graphics power in Slot 1 using optional 365W PSU that provides additional 75W using a 6 Pin power adapter.
Dell Parts Dept. says they don’t have such an adapter.
Dell Support says there are a 4-pin and an 8-pin connection available on the PSU
Male or Female they couldn’t say
What do I need?

We have a Dell Precision Tower 3620 and have purchased a firepro W7000 to install. only problem is the 6 Pin connector provided by dell has a different pin arrangement. the middle top pin as you look at the plug is square instead of the usual rounded corner pin so will not go into the socket.
Anyone know why this would be?

The only video cards validated in the Precision T3620 did not need the power supply lead. So this may be why the 290w PSU is lacking the correct cable? Perhaps another Precision T3620 can open their case and also check the PSU cabling.

I just bought a Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 drive for my Precision Tower 3620.  The manual says "Slide the PCIe SSD card into the slot and tighten the screw to secure it."  Unfortunately, there was no screw on the system board.  Does anyone know what screw I need and why Dell didn't include one in the first place?

Hello all,
I have a Precision 3620 system, with a 2x1Tb RAID-1 drive. This is also the boot drive. From the owner's manual it is clear that this system also has a M.2 slot. Since the system clearly needs a performance boost in read/write performance, I was thinking of installing some sort of M.2 SSD, and move the boot environment to the SSD, using some software like perhaps Macrium. I'd be grateful if you could answer any of the following questions.
1) Does this system (with the latest firmware) support NVMe M.2 SSDs? Are M.2 / NVMe Samsung EVOs 256Gb supported? When searching for motherboards (at least recently) one can find storage compatibility guidelines. I've not been able to find anything here, so any help will be appreciated. I have read this but it was laptop oriented...
2) Is it feasible to transfer (using Macrium/Acronis) the working system (which currently is less than 60Gb) from the RAID to the M.2 SSD and boot from there, by configuring UEFI appropriately? If so, how?
3) Is warranty made void, by installing a third-party M.2 SSD?
Thanks in advance for your time!

My organization burns a lot of CDs and DVDs. We've seen more burning errors on the new Precision Tower 3620s (Windows 10 1703) than the mostly-OptiPlex 7010s that were in place with Windows 7 previously.
I haven't been able to monitor exactly when the errors are occurring, but I know it's on both CDs and DVDs. We use CDBurnerXP as an organization instead of Power2Go which comes with the Precision.
Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone else is experiencing the same thing. I believe most of the disc drives are model GHB0N (DVD+-RW).
J. J.

A:Anyone else getting burning errors on Precision Tower 3620?

A free cd burning program should not be used in a business setting especially one that contains adware and one that was initially for windows XP. Try Power 2 go on a test machine to burn dvds and see if that makes a difference.
Windows 10 does not burn video dvds on its own. You need a 3rd party program to burn any video files to dvd. That might be part of the problem you are having. The free software might depend on windows for some features that are in Win 7 and previous versions but have been left out of win 10 and 8. Older versions of cdburnerXP should not be used with windows 10. There is a win 10 version available if you want to risk it and have not updated the program--
From the software reviews for cdburnerxp--
contains adware - do not install on any PC with sensitive info or usage...

I have a Dell Precision Tower 3620 that was purchased May 2016. I'm looking to use the Thunderbolt capability but can't find the addin card that I'm supposed to use. This unit was advertised as having Thunderbolt capability but I can't seam to find how to take advantage of it.

A:Dell Precision Tower 3620 Thunderbolt

It looks like its an add-on card that you purchased with your build.  If you didn't select it at time of purchase, then it didn't come with it.  You can always buy a PCIe add on card yourself and throw it in the computer.

Hi All,
We have bought a Precision Tower 3620 with an External Graphic card.Nvidia Quadro K620 graphic card.
The Graphic card has one DVI port and one DP port while the on board card has 2xDP and one HDMI.
We have to connect two monitors to this computer . We have been able to connect the monitor to external DP port. But for some reason the DVI port is not working.

So we decided to use the on-board card but it is not working....we removed the external graphic card and set BIOS to Intel Graphic card but still it is not working (I have only tested the DP port at the moment)....

So what do you think the reason might be?

Thanks in advance for the help

Is the air cooling solution on the Dell Precision Tower 3620 with the i7-7700K is robust enough to run near full load for days at a time without throttling issues? I have not been able to find any information regarding the machine temperatures under load with this processor.
Context below:
My workplace is looking to buy a set of workstations for running sets of the single-threaded models that are a part of our workflow more quickly. The Dell Precision Tower 3620 seems reasonably priced and comes with an i7-7700K which is currently the quickest single-threaded processor out there so it looks attractive.
A consideration / worry that we have, however, is that the i7-7700K tends to run very hot and these workstations will be running at ~80% to 100% load for days at a time, as we will be running 4 simulations on each machine at the same time (one for each core). Some have recommended that for this workload we go with custom machines with liquid AIO coolers, but that would be significantly more expensive, so if the Dell workstation can handle this workload that would be ideal.

So I made the mistake of pushing the 2.3.2 bios to about 30 3620 computers and they all did the same thing after the update.  Display the Dell logo, start booting windows and then black screen.  On each one, a setting in the bios had to be changed to MAKE it use the Nvidia quadro card instead of the Intel HD graphics.
Today I see on the Optiplex 7040 there's a new bios, 1.6.5 that one of the fixes has to do with it not automatically selecting the correct video card at boot.
Can this be fixed on the 3620? Specifically we're using the 3620 with the I7, and K2200 card.

I installed BIOS update A16 to my M4600 and after it went to 100%, the system will no longer POST. No dell logo, no ability to get into BIOS. The hard drive light is bright white, and the battery light next to it flashes White once then 4 times amber, then white again plus 4 times amber, and repeats for a few more times before just settling on non-stop flashing amber.
Pulled and swapped the memory and the hard drive, tried it with and without the battery, also pulled the CMOS battery. Again, no video on the screen, no Dell logo, no POST, no fans on, nothing activity wise other than those flashing lights when I turn it on. I'm thinking something went wrong with the BIOS update even it looked like it completed successfully and I've done hundreds of these to various Dell laptops over the years.
Any ideas what I should try next? I can't find that solid white HD, flashing amber Battery diagnostic code anywhere in any documentation or online so I don't even know where to begin.
Plus it's not under warranty anymore which angers me because it appears the only reason my laptop has been bricked is because I dared install the A16 update that was helpfully published right there on Dell's support page.

I'm havving issues with a brand new Precision 3620 workstation.
The processor is an Intel 6700K  4Ghz base clock and 4.2Ghz turbo clock.
1) For any kind single threaded task it always runs at 4Ghz and never at 4.2Ghz.
How can I make it run at turbo speed (bios is set so it should) ?
2) For multithreading tasks using all cores (also using SIMD) the clock drops to 3.6Ghz
Using Intel power gadget I measure 60Watt power consumption and 54 degrees C.
(Test is Prime95 using blend mode test, so not max heat small FFT test)

I find this clock behavior quite unacceptable for a PC sold as workstation.
Using the Intel Extreme Tuning tool I can fix issue 2) by rasing the Processor Core IccMax from 92A to 110A.  This indicates wrong CPU setting in the bios, but these hidden settings are not visible to be changed.
Issue 1) I can not fix.
Is there any way to correct these issues ?

A:Bios update failed - Dell Precision M4600

That is NOT the issue! There is nothing wrong with the M4600 motherboards per se.
Everybody has been trying to find why when trying a BIOS upgrade, the system immediately fails with a basic "BIOS Update Failed" and no specific error code or more explanation. The answer is in the PDF document below - that is the message displayed when BIOS authentication fails!
You just have to look up the Dell Signature Firmware 'feature' that was introduced into a number of laptop incl the M4600.  Download PDF doc. That was a feature introduced per NIST requirements.
In a nutshell, they changed the way BIOS authenticates a BIOS file before it will use it to update the BIOS & EC firmware. The M4600 is in the list of "Legacy Systems" where this was introduced. Basically, these systems did NOT have the Signature Firmware when produced.
Version A04 introduced this feature. After you install that, you will have an option to turn the Signature Firmware requirement On (default is Off). Once turned On, it can NOT be turned off!
The problem starts in BIOS ver A08. Something in the code is wrong. Because on some M4600s it updates the BIOS AND Activates the Signature Firmware requirement. After that, the system will NOT authenticate ANY other BIOS versions so you will NOT be able to upgrade past version 8!
I manage many, many systems for a company. I am currently sitting on 33 (yes, that many) M4600 with that exact same situation!

I have version A05 installed now and it is not updating any further (also no downgrade).
I have tried EVERY version available on DELL support section - from a01 to a19.

Hi guys. I'm having a bit of a problem updating my BIOS. I have a MSI P45 Platinum MB. I have downloaded the new BIOS, but the files dont seem to fit the programs i use. The files i download are files that have extensions equal to their version number, for instance; A7512IMS.110, where "110" is the extension as well as the version number. The update programs on the other hand, seems to want to get a hold of *.rom-files. I've googled my *** off, but cant find any good explanations. I cant seem to get an understanding of what these *.rom-files even are.

I expect people to recommend MSI Live Update 3 etc, but I'm having problems installing the application. When trying to exec "Liveupdate.exe", I see a bar, and when it is finished, my mouse cursor turns into an hourglass for about 5 sec, and nothing more happens. I even unpacked the *.exe-file which is an archive, and tried to execute the setup.exe, but still nothing.

I'm running WinXP Sp3. I dont have a floppy-station as this is a brand new computer, and im not sure if I can get a hold of a bootable USB-device.

A:P45 BIOS update issue

I realize that the machine probably doesn't have a floppy drive installed., but have you checked to see if the board itself has a FDD socket? The P-45 chipset is enabled for FDD, but I'm not familiar with your particular board to know if it's been implemented.

If it is, it's an easy (and reasonably inexpensive matter) to buy a floppy drive, take the side off the computer and flash your BIOS to your heart's content.

FDDs (all brands) run about eight bucks at Newegg. Annoyingly, the shipping charges are about the same. Here's a Sony; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16821103116

BIOS updates can be risky and aren't really suggested if they're not absolutely necessary. So, is this one necessary?

Hello,I have an issue with my ThinkPad T430.After updating bios to latest version my T430 won't even get inro post screen until I remove one of the two 4gb 12800S DDR3 1600Mhz RAM modules. Before the update everything was working without any problems and I even reseted the bios settings to deafult before and after installing the update.I don't even get any audio feedback from the motherboard which would say that RAM is broken or something like that :/

I have recently updated the bios on my ideapad 310 15isk as the lenovo driver site said it was "urgent" Ever since , the fan has been ramping up and running high even when the laptop is idle. Does anyone have the same problem or a copy of the exe for the older bios? I have cleaned the fan completely before anyone suggests that. There was minimal dust build up

I have a Lenovo ideapad 100S 11IBY, and today I could not log in to windows 10 after its BIOS update (to the latest version) It just keeps wanting me to input bitlocker recovery key, but I could not find it on my microsoft account website, and actually even I don't remember whether I did set up my bitlocker recovery key or not. I'd been to 'windows.microsoft.com/recoverykeyfaq' as intructed on the screen and followed all directions, also had been to the BestBuy that I'd purchased it but nothing helps. I love my laptop and I have done my best to keep the device good. I feel very sad that I cannot use my PC during this weekend. I don't want to reset my laptop.  Anyone knows how to solve this problem ??

I tried to update the BIOS from our Latitude E5450 systems from A12 to A13 with a command line, distributed by our SCCM, but it does not install the BIOS, though I get a 'succeeded'  return message.
On shutdown and a boot later on, it still says 'A12'.When trying to do a reboot aftwerwards, still no effect. On immediate* reboot after the Install, it installs the 'A13' update.(*immediately: being the first shutdown/reboot action after the BIOS installation)
I though it could be a Windows 10 'fastboot' issue so I disabled that option, but still, when choosing 'shut down' after the succesfull BIOS update, it does not update the BIOS on the next boot.

The command line I use is:A13.exe /s /f /p=xxxxx /l="C:\Temp\BIOS.txt" /forceit
The bios.txt logfile says:

I have an issue when trying to update the BIOS of my Z30-A-12R.
I have installed currently the bios version 2.6. My computer had to be reformatted and all the programs re-installed. When reinstalling utilities the ECO utility could not be installed due to the incompatibility with the bios version I am using.
When trying to update the bios, the new version is 4.2 but when trying to download it and apply it, it says that my computer is not supported.
Is there any way to update the bios? Why do I have a problem with the new version?
Thanks for your help.
