Lenovo S510 Desktop - BIOS Recovery help please

Q: Lenovo S510 Desktop - BIOS Recovery help please

I have a brand new Lenovo S510 Desktop (small form factor). This one:http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/desktops/lenovo/s-series-sff/s510/ As usual, the first thing I do with any new pc is to update the software, drivers and BIOS. Downloaded the lastest BIOS from here.I chose the "Flash UEFI BIOS update (Flash from operating system)" version.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds112505 Ran the utility from Windows 10 x64. After the utility ran in Windows, the machine shutdown and rebooted into the BIOS Setup Screen and began writing the new BIOS file, as expected. The BIOS update got to about 25% complete in the status bar and then froze during the "writing boot block" portion. I left the computer there for about an hour with no change. Powered down the machine eventually and, as feared, upon restarting:- the machine turns on- hdd runs, fan runs etc- but there is no video- no beeps, nothing So, BIOS appears to be bricked. What is the correct method to perform a BIOS recovery on this specific model? It's a current 2016 model. BIOS is AMI if I remember correctly while staring at the BIOS setup screen. Unfortunately, the S510 Desktop support pages don't appear to have any model-specific instructions for BIOS recovery. As a result I've been trying recovery instructions for other Lenovo models... but have been unsuccessful so far. If possible, I'd prefer to recover from a usb stick but will do whatever works at this point. Appreciate any help the community can offer. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi all, My company buys 10 PC (S510 Desktop (Lenovo) ), all of them install with same image file (windows 7 x86 with full updates and drivers). 9 of 10 pcs are ok but 1 has a problem that it can not shutdown (hang up in shutdown screen). i tried to install windows 7 x64 but it still can not shutdown. The Lenovo services center replaced a new hdd (the old hdd was decripted with "delay") but it still the same, cannot shutdown. I don't know how to fix it because our company has a application runs only in win 7 x86. Thanks for helping me !

Just wondering if there is any Bios update released by Lenovo for the H110 chipset for use with the Kaby Lake processors. Apologies if this has been answered but my forum search gave 0 results. If no, any such updates in the future? Will be great to have this update to allow current processors to be upgraded. Thanks!

Hi all, I got today Lenovo S510 model: 10KW005NAX I want to get a cable or adapter to connect Displayport to HDMI 1080p LCD I have from before There seem to be passive and active converters, what I understood from online is that if I have DP++ PC I can get a passive converter or else I need an active converter. I don't know if cables can be active and passive too?For example: Amazon linkSo the description says source can be DP or DP++, so it has a chip inside it? so it's active? So... can anyone tell me what is my displayport type (Lenovo S510) ? and maybe shed some light on what I need to get clear picture to HDMI in? Appreciate your help

I recently upgraded to the latest BIOS on my desktop S510. The reason was I purchased a MSI Geforce GTX1060 graphics card and a new PSU (Corsair 650). After installing everything the system works fine, except for one strange thing:

The on/off button never goes off when I turn the computer off through software (Windows turn off) and there is a fan still running, forever it seems. The computer can be cool but the fan just runs. I checked by opening the chassi and it is the CPU fan.

GPU works fine and all drivers are installed. I have updated Win and BIOS through Lenovo.

The store says they tested my PSU, when I returned it yesterday, and it works fine in another system.

My solution today is to turn off the power first through software and afterwards using the switch on the back of the PSU.

A:Lenovo S510: CPU fan spinning when computer is off

In the other IdeaCentre, 'Lenovo Desktop Towers', forum, I have seen posts where owners with upgraded power supplies using 24 to 10-pin adapters have reported the similar behavior.  I don't recall seeing a solution (but also wasn't searching for one.)  GL.

Right after re-installing Windows 8 on a Lenovo G510, I updated the BIOS to version 79CN50WW (V3.09) with the file which is available on this website. Unfortunately, the update crashed right in the middle of the process and leaves me with a broken BIOS. After booting the notebook, I get the following messages: lenovo logo"EFI Nentwork 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)" with an [OK]-Button. If I hit OK, I'll get..."No bootable device -- Please restart system"If I restart the system, I'll see the following messages: lenovo logo"EFI Nentwork 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)" with an [OK]-Button. If I hit OK, I'll get..."Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed.Insert Recovery Media and Hit any keyThen Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media"If I hit [OK] again, the Boot Manager shows up with a list which has two entries which are:EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (F8-A9-63-33-28-09)Whatever option I choose from these both, nothing changes. How can I recover the (previous) BIOS or get the notebook to work again properly?

Windows 7 does not have drivers for the Intel Skylake processor in your S510.   There's many tools (Microsoft, Gigabyte, ASUS, etc.) and ways, including videos on Youtube, to 'inject' those drivers into Win 7 install media.

So I tried updating the BIOS on my Lenovo M92p desktop using Lenovo System Update program. Unfortunately, it didnt work and i ended up with a blank screen. I waited for about 10 minutes and still nothing happened. I decided to hold the power button and had it shut off. After multiple power ons, still no POST. I read the HMM and the section about BIOS boot block recovery. It said I needed to burn an iso file to a CD and also move the CMOS jumper to pins 2 & 3. Since I dont have a cd, I put the bios flash package on a usb drive instead, plugged it into pc, and also moved CMOS jumper to 2 & 3. Computer turns on and there are two beeps. No display. Does this mean I will have to get a CD?

I really like this ability to create a backup on demand, as I have needed the rescue multiple times. (I also have Acronis image backups on an external drive).

The R&R documentation allows for 32 backups. Does anyone know what happens if I try to create a 33rd backup?

A friend thinks it will merge number 33 into number 32, but I'd like to be sure.

Hi LouCopits,

I'm not sure either but I would have thought you might get a message saying you are out of disc space? Unless you back it up to an external drive? I also have a Lenovo but my backup has stopped working for some unknown reason.

Try backing up to an external source and see if this works. However, a word of warning, when I tried backing up my current C-Drive setting, it did work BUT it actually moved the current setting to the DVDs. In other words, I did not have this back-up setting on the C-Drive anymore!!!

Good luck!

My client has a brand new V520 mini. It is still in warranty. Windows crashed and won't boot. He tried to do a system restore, but there were no restore points. Unfortunately he didn't create a rescue disk when we sold him the computer. I looked for a recovery disk using the serial number, but it said no recovery disk was available for that system. Is the system trying to Startup Repair when booting, or is trying to boot Windows but failing to load completely? One option would be to interrupt the boot process, by turning on the system, and as soon as you see Windows start to load, unplug the system (You can also try holding down the power button to shut it off, but with and SSD that may not be quick enough).    Do that 3 times in a row, and Windows should load into its recovery environment (WinRE), and from there you can choose Troubleshoot and then either select Refresh, which will repair the OS while preserving all the user data files, or Reset the system to its factory condition and lose all the user data files. You can also run the repair by using a Windows 10 installation DVD or USB drive, which you can create for free using Microsoft's Media Creation tool.   To enter recovery using the installation media, boot to the Windows 10 installation media, and then on the second screen select "Repair your computer".  Boot to Advanced Startup Options from Windows 10 Installation USB or DVDhttps://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-boot-advanced-startup-options-windows-10-a.html#option5 You are correct that the Product ID Is stored in the BIOS, but if you are doing a clean install, you have to skip past the "Enter Product Key" step by selecting "I do not have a product Key" and Windows will activate auto... Hey guys, so I've gotten myself in a bit of a pickle. Ok, long story short, the hard drive in my Lenovo Y50 crashed and started doing the click of death.  Fed up with dealing with Western Digital, I said "screw it" and drove to the nearest computer store and bought a Kingston 480GB SSD (Which I am LOVING so far). However, because the size of the drive was smaller, my recovery USB refused to restore the operating system, so I had to borrow my friends computer, download the media creation tool and do a clean install of Windows 10 that way. Everything was totally fine, then I remembered I had forgotten something really important. Every single back up I've ever done was with Lenovo Onekey Recovery. A program that I did not have anymore. So obviously my next course of action was to get a recovery key from Lenovo. I called the number, explained the situation, and they sent me the key that I got in the mail today. I plugged it in expecting the rest of the road to be filled with puppies and rainbows... but it's not looking that way. Going into BIOS, it does not see the Lenovo Recovery key as a boot option. I've since made my own clean windows 10 recovery drive than can be booted into fine, but it doesnt recognize the lenovo drive as a bootable UEFI device either. Furthermore, it doesn't matter if I set BIOS to UEFI or Legacy Support... it still doesn't recognize the drive either way. The guy on the phone told me he'd have to send me a windows 8.1 key, si...
