Integrated Camera Dell Latitude E6400 Not working

Q: Integrated Camera Dell Latitude E6400 Not working

My Dell Latitude E6400 has windows 7 installed everything works fine but I cannot get my integrated camera to work. I've tried installing the drivers on the dell website with no luck. If I check under the device manager it says unknown device. I tried updating the driver from the device manager also but I get nothing. Can anyone help?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Flash your system with bios A27, as well as update your chipset. You didn't say if your OS was 32- or 64-bit.

My warranty has no run out so dell can't actually help me. I wondered if anyone had a similar problem and what they did? Whenever I try to use the camera the blue light comes on as if to say that it is working but the picture is just black. When I click to take a picture regardless a box pops up that says "Unable to capture a photo. Please reconnect your camera and try again". But if the camera is integrated how can disconnect it? Have tried reinstalling drivers and even the webcam manager itself but it has not helped. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you. x

I'm looking into buying an affordable small travel notebook/laptop. My budget is fairly low, only consisting of a few hundred Dollars.
I have found this specification list from a local used store:
www.secondhand.nz/.../
I haven't found any new condition sellers so far. Also, a few questions I had were:
- Is this notebook capable of running Windows 10?
- As I'm a designer, can this notebook run Photoshop cloud edition?
- Is shipping notebooks overseas possible and safe?
it is really hard for me to determine what's wise or not. Because I'm inexperienced in the hardware field.

A:DELL Latitude E6400

DANIELCUBAN,
This is a nice reliable computer. Unfortunately, there are no Windows 10 drivers available for download. That does not mean it may not run it. It is that Dell did not verify this computer to run Windows 10 and did not create any drivers.
Looking at the system requirements to run Photoshop Cloud software; the computer meets the requirements.
As far as shipping notebooks overseas it should be fine as long as it is packaged well toh avoid being damaged.
Dell has some reasonable priced laptops that may meet your budget located on our Dell Outlet website below., Even with Windows 10.

I'm planning on getting a new dell latitude E6400 for college next year and in the customizable options for RAM one can choose 4.0GB DDR3-1333MHzSDRAM, 2 DIMMS or 4.0GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM, 2 DIMMS for the same price. I assumed the RAM with 1333MHz would be faster, but the Dell support tech support people (who did not really seem to know what they were talking about) kept saying they couldn't find any information about the latitude E6400 having a 4.0GB DDR3-1333MHz RAM. So, which RAM do you guys think I should choose?

P.S. Should I go for 64 bit OS or 32 bit? And what exactly would be the difference?

Thanks so much!

A:RAM dilemma with Dell Latitude E6400

Without know the CPU, best guess is it doesn't matter.

Looking here: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/dell-latitude-e6400-laptop/4505-3121_7-33200149.html
the laptop has a P8700 CPU, which according to Intel has a 1066 BUS (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?spec=SLGFE)
Most likely the board they are using only supports this bus, so buying the higher will just downclock to the 1066.

I'd go for the x64 OS.

This is the only laptop I could get with a modem for dialup, Windows 7 installed ok, registered ok. It came with disk. It is refurbished but looks like it was never used.
I am used to XP so I have a lot of questions, entered Internet connections but it only connects and does not go anywhere.
Do I need Java? Comodo says, it cannot be installed, Malwarebytes cannot update. Firefox installed ok without any add-ons.
Can I install WOT on W7 ?
Can I install Malware Search?
Can I install NoSquint? Dr.Web?

I have to get to the point where I can go onto the web to get Superantyspyware and update Malwarebytes (had it from a USB, older version).
I managed to fix my old laptop here to be able to ask questions but I need the newer one, this 10+ year old gets too hot fast.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Please do not send me to youtube, a 2 minutes clip takes 2 hours to get through the phone.

Dear Friends,

Hope all is well.

This notebook will NOT PLAY any DVD's. I'm not sure when the last time I tried to play a DVD!?

I ran a sfc /scannow and it came back clean, uninstalled DVD/CD-ROM driver, rebooted and made no difference.

Using the same DVD on two other machines both being HPs the DVD played fine. I also downloaded and installed K-Lite Codec Pack Mega, but I don't think it was the newest one Version 12.9.0 and there was no change. It seemed like once or maybe twice like right after installing the Codecs a window popped up and asked to play the DVD. The next time I placed the DVD back in to play it..it didn't recognize it..or asked to play it.

I'm fairly sure I have the Defaults set right for WMP and the related file types.

Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Sincerely, Raphael

I've renamed your thread to help those viewing the forum to provide better feedback.

Head to dell.com or dell.co.uk (depending on your region) and go to support, then enter your service tag, then select the drivers required listed for Windows XP.

Generally speaking you will want chipset, Wireless, LAN, sound, and video, as well as additional drivers for Dell keyboard shortcuts and such.

Attached is the ZIP file requested, but I was unable to create a "perfmon /report" file. I receive an error of "Error: An error occured while attempting to generate the report. More background on my error:
I have a Dell Latitude E6400 with Windows 7 64 bit. I received the BSOD this morning with a "System_Service_Exception" error, and an indication that the error is tied to the NWIFI.SYS file.

The BSOD happens when my machine is booting up, and it bombs just as I typically would see the "CTRL-ALT-DEL to login" type of message. Disregard my post. I have resolved the issue.

It was tied to the version of Symmantec Endpoint Protection at my company. I upgraded (uninstalled old and did a clean install of the new version) my version of SEP and fixed the problem.

More context around my activities in troubleshooting the issue on my Dell Latitude E6400 Windows 7 64 bit machine:

I first thought it was a hardware or driver issue tied to the wireless driver, and tried the following two things:
1) Updated my wireless driver to the latest available from Dell (I was at least one release behind)
2) Swapped my hard drive into a different E6400.
Both failed, and the issue remained.

I tried to use the ?repair? function in the Windows ?F8? boot screen of available diagnostic options. Fail.

I tried to restore my machine to an earlier restore point several different times with the two available restore points. Fail.

Around this point I went home for the day (after a final attempt to do a system restore). When I got home (and assumed my machine was still useless) I fired up my machine in ?normal? mode (I had been using ?Safe Mode With Networking? during my troubleshooting), and everything worked. Puzzling. I assumed my last ?system restore? attempt had been successful in resolving the issue. I used my laptop last night without issue.

I got into work this morning, docked my machine, logged on, launched a couple of apps, then?.BSOD! DAMMIT!

I then figured that the issue was tied to something tha... Read more

Yes hello. I just created an account here because I require some help. I've been having high CPU Usage lately. Here are my system specs.
Dell Latitude E6400 With an Intel Core 2 DUO and it has 2.66GHz processor, with 4GB of Ram, a 250GB HD, it has Intel Family on board Graphics, My programs installed are: iTunes, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash Player, Java, Power ISO, WinRAR, Team Viewer, Google Chrome, cCleaner, Avast, Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus, & my HP Deskjet 3511 Printer Software. But I could only have just 1 IE window open watching a movie on Netflix and I notice that the words coming from a person in the movie do not match up with what I'm hearing. Like what I'm hearing is before what their lips are saying. And it's not my internet connection because I've tried watching the same movie on another laptop and I don't have that problem. And when opening my eBay page, it's very slow to load, same as Gmail too. And did I mention the very high CPU Usage during all of this? With only 1 application open which is IE, the CPU Usage can go anywhere from 50% to 100% in just a few minutes and on occasions even a few seconds! I've tried many different things. From stopping and disabling unneeded services in services.msc to setting the affinity in certain processes to using only 1 core and not 2 cores, to running both Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials with no virus found on both. Until recently the laptop worked fine, but now it experiences something that resembles thermal throttling.
Initially, everything is OK, but after 10-15 min of heavy use (and by heavy use I mean a 1080p youtube video), it starts to really chunk the responses. You would think is because is overheating, but the temps never gets really high.

[check attachment for higher resolution]
As you can see, the highest temp was presumably 77C, and the current one is 50C, while the On-Demand Clock Modulation is 50%, but it feels way worse. Once the ODCM kicks in it's very slow.
I'll give it a good clean inside and a new thermal compound this weekend, but I doubt that's the issue, it looks clean already.
Any thoughts on why is ODCM kicking in ?

Click on this Youtube link for a video on how to update your Dell PC's BIOS in 99 Seconds: http://dell.to/1fGmlNu

Follow instructions mentioned below prior to the BIOS update.

Ensure that the AC Adapter is connected to the computer prior to the BIOS update.
Disconnect any third party peripherals connected to the computer before performing BIOS update.
Remove any cd/dvd from the optical drive prior to the BIOS update.
Do not turn off the computer during the BIOS update.
Do not restart the computer during the BIOS update.
Ensure battery charge is more than 10% during BIOS update.

Note: Plug your computer to a good, working wall jack before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you may have to replace the BIOS chip or motherboard.

CURRENT SPECS:
Processor: Core 2 Duo P8700
RAM: 3GB DDR2
Storage: 160GB HDD
GPU: Nvidia Quadro NVS 160m
Just got this laptop through work refurbished. I don't play games really, except for Minecraft. So, I was shocked to see how pitful performance is on the lowest settings. When I first got the laptop and installed Minecraft, it was runnable. Getting about 30-60fps, sometimes dipping below 20fps. But now I'm getting 1-15fps at the LOWEST SETTINGS.
I recently applied fresh thermal paste, and the processor is running a lot cooler.
Is the GPU for this laptop really that bad? Even if I upgraded to a Core 2 Duo T9900 would the GPU be a bottleneck? I understand that these Core 2 Duos are like 6 years old, but they shouldn't be COMPLETE garbage.

I've heard talk that a Core 2 Quad would be compatible with this laptop. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I'd love to upgrade to a quad just for the sake of better performance. I've heard that overheating is an issue, but are there any fan upgrades for this laptop? How about the best darn thermal paste available? I'd like to put only so much money into this machine, but not TOO much if it isn't worth it. If it is, I'd like to max it out, or, get pretty darn close to it. 6GB of RAM, SSD, Core 2 Quad...

Thoughts/ideas? Was this a bad buy? After my associate discount and coupons I got the laptop for $119 at Staples. I love Dell because of the options for upgrading, but I don't want to be... Read more

If I had to guess I would say that the bottle neck is not the processor but the GPU.  I doubt that the Quadro NVS 160m would perform very well playing games and there is some discussions about this fond from the web. You can find more information about the performance of the NVS 160m here and here. The biggest culprit might not be so much the GPUs but the video drivers themselves, they are unfortunately just not optimized very well for game play.
I noticed a couple videos with games being run on the E6400 like this one here,  that you can compare with to see if you are getting similar performance.

I've had this laptop for about 3 or 4 years as a Christmas present; Probably should get around to getting a new one, but currently that's not gonna happen until the school year ends.
Around September the laptop stopped charging correctly until the I was forced to have the laptop plugged in at all times and if it came loose, the whole system would shut down. I've checked through various different sources before I actually just put the system down for good and get a new one. I've tried checking if it was the AC adapter itself, strangely it did the same on my current laptop and an old one. The charging symbol would just blink red but it was still powering the laptop, but not charging it. I tried checking if it was the drivers since recently I did a whole system restore with reinstalling windows 7, but no change.
Now I'm questioning if it's just the battery is full on dead along with the charger being burnt out. Could the problem be different than what I've found or should I get a new laptop altogether since buying both a new battery and AC adapter would be a waste when I can just get a new one with Windows 10.

I have a Latitude E6400 that I recently clean installed WIN7 ultimate on. Everything was working great and continues to work great undocked. When in the docking station (), however I tend do have problems. I thought initially it was just related to the NIC card as it seemed to only start misbehaving under a lot of network activity and disabling the NIC and running only on wireless seemed to fix it, but in ALL cases I have to do a cold boot. Simply restarting it would not help and when I finally would get logged back in after a simple restart, the CPU was already pegged. Today, however it seems that even with the NIC disabled that it also exhibits the behavior although today I was using an external USB drive connected to the docking station. i have since removed that as well to see if I can stabilize. I've downloaded and installed every latest driver/bios/firmware I could find. Nothing has worked...

What occurs is over time, and sometimes that's not long, my CPU quickly pegs at 100% and stays. There are no particular processes pegging it either. I can end process on many in my list with no change. Over the last week I've only been in the office a couple of days using the docking station and on each occasion I have problems at least 2 - 3 times within the day. The rest of the week I've been undocked and had no problems and I run this thing all day long.

I have no messages in any logs that I've found indicating any type of problem. Just extreme frustration. ... Read more

A:Dell Latitude E6400 Windows 7 docking problems?

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem? If you did, I hope it wasn't "rolling back to XP" since that is not really an option I would like to explore either. I noticed this problem for me started about 3 weeks ago and it only happens when I am docked as well. I have tried other docking stations, but that didn't resolve my problem either. Hello, I have this 4-year old laptop. I bought a Kingston 2GB DDR2 800mhz CL6 PC2-6400 module to install into the second slot (the first one has the stock 2GB RAM module). BIOS didn't recognize it, so I tried to plug the original RAM module from the first slot (A) into the second (B) and the laptop didn't even power on. Then I tried to install the Kingston into the first slot (A) and the laptop did power on and run OK. So it is clear that the second RAM slot is not working properly.
Does it mean that I need to replace the motherboard in order to fix it? Is there any other way this could be fixed (maybe the slot isn't bad, it just needs some setup, maybe cleaning, I don't know)?
Thanks in advance.
Filip

A:Second RAM slot not working (Latitude E6400)

If neither module works in that slot, it's a bad memory socket - the mainboard may be repairable but the soldering required will put the price near or over what a replacement board will cost.

Hi,
I am facing issues on my Dell Latitude E6400 laptop. Everyday it crashes with blue screen 4-5 times a day. Common symptoms are, when I move from wired network to wireless (wireless does not work and system hangs and eventually crashes), or when it is in a sleep mode. Sometimes, without switching to wireless also hangs and crashes. The blue screen says something like DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE and code 9f etc. I updated the Ethernet and wireless drivers too, but it didn't help.

Specs
It has Windows 7
- x64
- OEM version of windows 7 Ultimate is installed from Dell
- Age of system (hardware) is ~2 years. I got it now from my office IT.
I am attaching the zip file containing perfmon html report and files from Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2.

Will appreciate if you can help, what is going on and what needs to be uninstalled or upgraded.

Thanks
Amit

I have acquired an used Dell Latitude E6400 laptop that has a weird problem.
A couple of times, all of a sudden the video faded away, and didn't come back for dozen power cycles. Screen/inverter/video chip were ok though, as colors displayed just fine when I press D + power. Also, when video faded away, all LEDs on the board turned off, except those on the back of the screen.
Also, another time, it didn't POST at all. When powered up, it would spin drive and fan for a few seconds and shut down, leaving some LEDs on (HDD + WiFi) for another few seconds, after which the LEDs turns off, flickering for a split second. A couple of times, after all that, it even kept blinking all 3 keyboard LEDs = System board error. This happened when on battery, AC or both, so I don't think si power source. I think is either the power circuit or the logic circuit on system board.
Right now the laptop is fine. It passed all diagnostic tests, and power cycles are working perfect. But I'm sure the issue will pop up again at some point.
This is most likely a motherboard issue, but I'm wondering if it can be fixed without board replacement, if a simple fix is applicable.
So I have a couple of questions about general hardware design of system boards:
1. Is this common behavior for BIOS chip failure?
2. Vaguely, what is the control path between BIOS software and the system board LEDs? What would cause them to flicker while nothing else would? Could corrupt BIOS cause that?

A:Dell Latitude E6400 intermittently no video and chaotic POST response

New encounter this morning.
Pressed the power button, power and charging LEDs on the back of the lid were on, while all LEDs on the system board were off (HDD, WiFI, BT, Caps, .. even the LED under the power button) and no video.
After a few seconds, all LEDs lit on properly and video came up, and it was already in Windows, so POST+boot+OS load worked while the LEDs and video was off.
Does this rings anyone's bell?

I'm searching for a DVD drive bay battery for my E6410...there does not seem to be one.  Is this correct?  If one actually exists, can someone please provide a model number so I can find it somewhere?
So far, all I can find for a secondary battery, is something people refer to as a "slice", which is sort a a docking station battery...model # GN752.  Is this the only option out there for a 2nd battery?
Thanks for any help.

A:Latitude E6400 keyboard backlight not working on windows 8.1

Hi hassanahmed,Unfortunately, none of the Latitude E6400's support Windows 8. Installing this OS may have caused your issues. From a Dell support perspective, we would advise you revert back to the original OS for optimum performance.Thank you,Amy

Hi there, trying to connect using bluetooth on my dell e6400 but it isn't working. Bluetooth indicator led is on and when i scan for devices with Bluetooth, search results on windows 7 don't show any device. Although in my mobile phone Bluetooth search shows "dell 370 Bluetooth minicard" and when i tap to connect it says "unable to pair. incorrect pin or password". I have tried connecting to other Bluetooth devices but same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Under Settings->Connected Devices have you tried the "Add a device"? option to see if it shows there?  I had a similar issue with a Bluetooth mouse that wouldn't pair.  I had to delete it from the Bluetooth device list and then add it with the Add a Device option.

Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude E6400 on which the LED Screen Display / Video shows steady vertical lines in the right half of the display (partial display on the left side is good, see picture). I have already tested the external VGA port - it displays correctly on an external LCD monitor. The vertical lines are constant and of the same brightness, regardless of the position of the laptop lid. Could this be a problem with the inverter or the LCD display ribbon cable? Or something else? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

P. S. Please note that the golden glow on the top left side of the screen is just a reflection of an ambient light.

It's not the inverter (assuming the display has one);  that simply controls the backlight.  It may or may not be the cable - likely it is not.  It looks like a damaged display panel.

There is a slot for a mobile sim card under the battery. When I put my Vodafone UMTS Simcard in, nothing happenes.

It would be cool if I wouldn´t need a USB modem Stick like most others need.

Please help !

How can I activate it ? What drivers do I need for windows 7 32bit ?

I have a Lenovo Flex 2. When I try to go on Skype for a video call, the integrated webcam doesn't work. I thought it was a driver problem at first, but I tried installing the following driver and it didn't work:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds031749

If anyone has any possible solutions to this problem, that would be much appreciated.

A:Integrated camera not working

Accoding to Lenovo you should be installing this one which is for Windows 10. Here is the one for 8/8.1

The links show two drivers. Pick the one that is correct for your CPU.

Hello, I've been having a problem with Windows 10 no longer detecting the integrated camera in an E545. This problem began several months ago, after one of the major windows 10 updates. I didn't notice it at first since I rarely used the camera, but it's always bothered me that it no longer functions or is detected. At first I tried installing the Windows 7, and later, the Windows 8 driver but all I got was the following message box: Realtek Bluetooth suite can't run on WindowsThis app may decrease PC security or performance. Check for an updated app that runs on this version of Windows. I was hoping that the new anniversary update would fix this problem (since that last one caused it) but it hasn't. The laptop has never been dropped so I doubt the problem is due to a loose wire or something along those lines. I've also tried a total Windows refresh and that didn't help either. Any help would be much appreciated - thanks!

Hi Folks, I got my thinkpad T530 last week. I tested the skype after opening the box and it works. Then I took off the original 320G HDD and put my 830 SSD on it, reinstalled the win8 and blah blah blah.Just last night when I tried to chat with my parents on skype i found out the the camera is dead. I tried by doing so:1) according to others threads I uninstall most of the unnecessary drivers;2) reinstall the camera driver;3) deleted the ricoh media driver;4) updated the BIOS;5) tired to locate someone mentioned, the "privacy" problem. But the video/camera option is not even showing up by Fn+F6;6) downloaded and installed the thirdparty AMCAM and it says no camera device can be found.  Please let me know if there is anything else i can do. Thank you ,
