Converting secured Access 97 db to XP

Q: Converting secured Access 97 db to XP

One of our field offices previously created an Access 97 db with security features, and the person who created is long gone.

Now our company is in the process of upgrading to XP. Microsoft's knowledgebase claims that all we need to do is: 1) add back permissions to all users/groups for all objects, 2) add Admin to the Admins group, and 3) recreate the .mdw file on the XP machine using the new built-in Workgroup Administrator. (Copying the Access97 .mdw file to the XP machine doesn't work.) The field office was able to do steps one and two, but step three requires them to know the EXACT Name, Organization, and Workgroup ID that were used in the original 97 db.

QUESTION: Is there any way to look inside that original system.mdw file to see that information?

I've already told them to try copying the objects from the orginal db into a blank 97 db, then converting that one, but they still get an error message about "incorrect password". The users swear that there was no password protection set (and they are able to open the db without entering a password in 97.) help?...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Converting secured Access 97 db to XP

Hi, Girl.

Look at the shortcuts they used to get into the DB before.
They likely had their usernames "built in" to them to connect to the system MDW. But if they tried to log onto the DB from someone else's PC while logged in under THEIR username, it wouldn't have worked.

That's what I suspect...and it's a fairly common practice to auto-get the user who's on. You can even put the password in there, but I forget what the syntax is.

Check what sucurity settings you have. Click on tools, internet options, privacy. It is best to have it on medium.
Though, this will not apply if you arn't using IE. You would have to do something else. Are you using Internet Explorer? If not, what do you use? Have you tried a alternative browser?

I have been having this problem since I got rid of many viruses on my computer and updated the Microsoft Security patch. I contacted Microsoft and they said they believe that there is some spyware blocking me. To be clearer it is blocking me from all secured pages and my newly updated MSN Messenger and Yahoo Instant Messenger while my AOL IM has no problems connecting whatsoever. I have attached my HJT file another thing I recently found when downloading Spybot that DSO Exploit is on my computer..could this be causing the problem....

I have a NAS drive with both several unprotected folders and one protected folder. I have no trouble accessing the unprotected folders from Win10, but I cannot get access to the protected one. If I click on the secure folder from File Explorer I get the popup

I enter a userid and password as defined on the NAS . The popup disappears for a few seconds; then a very similar one pops up:

It says "connecting" and doesn't say "Access is denied", but never goes beyond that. I'm a bit puzzled because it looks like Windows is asking for credentials for the whole NAS rather than for the secured "share" within the NAS. I have no NAS-level security set up.

BTW, I've been able to access the unprotected shares with no trouble for years - both from Win7 and Win10. I've been trying using the protected share for only a couple months and have had mixed results. Sometimes I succeed, but usually I fail. I can find no errors logged on either Windows or the NAS.

Using Access from Office XP.

Hello,

After a colleague accidentally deleted about 100 records from our database we have recently used the "User and Group" permissions to restrict the user account from making any deletions.

The problem I have is with updating the DB. Until we used permission any changes would be made by copying the DB onto my desktop, making the changes then exporting any changed forms, tables etc into the "Live" DB at the end of the day when nobody else is using it.

Now with the permissions set a copy of the database will not allow me in, it comes up with the "You do not have permission..." error message without allowing me to log in.

Any ideas?

TIA
SBF

I am able to access any site on the Internet except the secured sites (banking sites, credit cards, etc). In this example, I have tried to access the Bank of America website. I am using Google Chrome and IE 8 and the message that I get is:

This webpage is not available.

The webpage at https://www.bankofamerica.com/index.jsp might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

This message is what I get from all of the secured sites. It seems that its any site that begins with "https://".

I've tried running the Malware Bytes, Spybot S&D, etc and they found some, which I removed or fixed. Still no luck. I also did the "regsvr dll" changes that I found from the previous "Unable to Access Secured Sites" and still no luck. I've checked my Internet Options and also followed the steps to "fix" the problem (from another message board). Again, no luck. I've even tried restoring the point to a time when I last used a secured site. Again, no luck.

I'm desparate and was wondering if there is anyone that may be able to help me so that I can regain access to the secured sites. Please help!

Have you ever been able to access secure sites ? If so, did something happen just before it stopped working ? New router ? New hardware ? New software ?

Do you have a router ?

Have you tried resetting Internet Explorer back to factory default ?

Umm, check your Services. Maybe the malware disabled something necessary to run encrypted stuff. Are you currently using Selective Startup (msconfig) ?

hi, I had this problem last week, it persisted for several days, but I was able to use system restore to fix it. Today, it has re-occured, and system restore hasn't worked. I went to Microsoft.com, downloaded Adaware, it detected a trojan virus. I followed directions to get rid of it (safe mode, disable system restore, update virus definitions, run a full scan) Trojan has been eliminated, but I still can't access my bank site, AOL IM, or Casino on Net. System Restore now won't go back since I enabled it again. I can, however, get email. Last week, I couldn't get email, so perhaps this is a different problem? I have followed directions on the Cannot Find Server page, checking Internet Options, Settings, LAN connections, etc. None of this has helped. Do you have any suggestions on what the problem could be? I would appreciate any ideas.

Is it possible to rename a secured Access 2000 database without messing-up the security permissions?

A number of employees (including myself) are using a secured database that I created. I want to change the name of the database but I'm worried that the .mdw file isn't going to recognize the name of the new database. Therefore the security permissions may get messed-up. However, recently went to Trendnet on line site and installed Router password security. Was able to connect and access the Internet on 2 of the 3 desktop pcs as well as the Laptop. However, 1 desktop ( running on Windows XP Professional, 5.1.2600 SVCPK 3, Optiplex G x 60 ) does not permit access to Internet. Once I get to the screen asking for the password ( network key) , I insert same I receive an error message stating "Network key s/b WEP pr a WPA key". "The network PW needs to be 104 bits- to be entered as a 5-13 ascii character or a 10 -26 hexadecimal characters".

FYI.. I went to the accessible desktops PCs an reviewed each of their " wireless properties" Advanc ed Settings which read -Netwk Auth. - WPA2-PSK & Data Encryp- TKIP.

However, the EX Prof. pc 's Wireless Advanced Settings options only have as options WPA-PSK & WEP settings.
I imagine that this anomily is the reason I can't access the Internet on this PC?

Okay, here's the shpeel...My client has a hp tablet notebook using xp tablet edition OS. (Her laptop from her work.) The wireless router that she is using at home is a belkin wireless N. She is able to access internet from the router fine when it's unsecured however, when I do secure it, no matter what I set it to whether it would be wpa or wep, it doesn't connect to any sites. I'm able to ping to the router, but not externally. I've tried resetting the router a few times but that didn't work. It does say, that I am connected to the SSID even though I'm unable to connect to the internet. I also tried using the intel pro wireless utility instead of using the windows wireless utility, but still no go. There's no issue with the router because there are about 4 macs on the network that access the router wirelessly just fine with or without encryption. I'm just using plain 'ol dhcp. Everything's pretty much default standard settings with the router. Does anyone know what's causing this issue?

I am trying to convert a MS Access 2003 database to MS Access 2007. I have tried both the "convert" and the "save as" methods. The conversion process provides the message, "All open objects must be closed prior to converting to a different version. Do you want Microsoft Office Access to close he objects?" I choose Yes. The Save As window opens and I pick a valid location and name.

The status bar indicates Access is closing temporary objects, and then briefly displays the converting status before popping the error message that "You attempted to open a database that is already opened exclusively by user 'Admin' on machine <machine name>. Try again when the database is available."

The problem is that the <machine name> displayed is my own machine name. I've tried to convert from other desktops, with the same result. Access does not seem to be able to close all objects before attempting to convert to a new databse.

Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks!

I am new to vba so I am having a hard time getting my mind around it. I have some questions about converting the macros over to vba.

If I have 5 macros, does that translate into 5 modules or do all the macros go into one module?

Do converted macros need aditional vba programming to get them to function as they did when they were macros?

Are modules event driven like macros or does the code load up when the form/report is open and stay in memory until the form/report closes?

If a macro is working correctly, is there any benifit to converting it to vba?

That is all I can think of for now, but I am absolutely sure I will have more questions later.

Who makes the software? Might be easier to find by the manufacturer than by the name. If the db gives you the option to export to a delimeted text file you can easily import it into Access.

I've realized after looking over a call accounting package, that is as basic as we want it to be, that all they are really doing is taking data off the serial port and putting it into an access database. I tried hyper terminal and sure enough the data comes in beautifully. So now I just need a way to go from that data to an access database and telling it that each column mean this or that. For example the first column is the long call indicator. The next few are the call start time.

The data is coming out of an old mitel sx-200 from the serial printer port in the rear. It was designed to hook up directly to a printer. If there is a nice little program out there that could do this I'd be very interested. The reason I'm not just buying the commercial software is that it is over $1000 and it really is just displaying the data.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Jesse

A:Converting raw data to an access database

Well, the software is there, it just costs money

Do you need the data in real time? You could just dump the serial input to a text file and then import from that text file to Access, Excel or whatever.

How do I convert this to Access?
In excel I have a formula which takes production levels for an individual an applies them to the table below to get their rate. =IF(BE6>0,VLOOKUP(BL6,Grids!$G$23:$J$34,4),0) How do I convert that to Access? Do I do it in a query or do I create multiple tables? Here's another formula -- =IF(CS6="Yes",VLOOKUP(CP6,Grids!$G$3:$L$9,HLOOKUP(CR6,Grids!$G$3:$L$9,2)),0). If needed, I can provide that grid as well.
Here's the table called "Grids" used in the EXCEL formula below. The rep table has one row per individual rep with their values stored in BE6 and BL6. (argh! I can't copy/paste the grid into this forum post!)

You use one or more Queries to do what you want. If you can explain in words what the lookup does I can advise you how to do it in a query.
From what you have already written it suggests that the Individuals "rates" would be in a separate table, in which case the query only needs to link the 2 tables to provide the data.
If the rates are in the same table a query will provide them anyway.
You can attach a copy of a Screen shot of the Table by pasting it in to Excel or word and the zipping it and attaching it to your post and then using the "Go Advanced" & "Manage Attachments" Buttons below where you type.

I can provide you with examples if required.

I have converted a 1997 access database from 1997 (!!) to 2007 by importing all the objects from 1997 into a blank 2003 databse and then from there into a blank 2007 database. Appearded All OK on the surface. However, I cannot save changes to the object - if I exit the form, I am asked to save changes, click YES and nothing happens - I can only exit the form without saving changes. This is a database I have "inherited" not my own design but I cannot see anything strange which might cause this problem. Any advice ??

A:Converting from Access 1997 to 2007

The correct way to make the transition is the Open the 1997 Database in Access 2003 and "Convert it" to Access 2003. The reason for this is that from Access 2000 on the Database Structure is different.
As I do not have Access 2007 loaded on my Computer I don't know if you can do the "Conversion" directly from 1997 to 2007 without the 2003 intermediate step.

I have an Oracle database that has Julian Dates and I need to convert them to standard dates in an Access query. I currently have Access 2003. An Example are: Julian date (1118811600) should be converted to Standard date (6/15/2005), Julian date (2455577) should be converted to Standard date (1/15/2011). The last one is Julian Date (1122279571) should be converted to Standard date (7/25/2005 3:19 AM). Please Help I have asked everyone I know in my department and can't find the answers...
Thanks!

A:Converting Julian Dates in Access

Your last one is way off... it should be 989302.63819, I think. There are some javascripts that will convert the date types, and you can run Javascript rather than VBS, at least in a data access page.

I am transcribing a cemetery to put the info on the web and it has to be in text format.
I have the database while I am working on gathering data, taking photos, etc in Access. Is there any way to take the info I have in Access in output into plain text format.
Its okay if I lose the formatting - just having the data will help.
The output format is required to be in columns, i.e., name, birthdate, death date, epitaph.
I sure hope someone can help with this. I have tried taking it to Excel and then outputting and nothing gives me a plain text format.
Thanx G

I have tried to convert a Word doc. that I receive daily into an Access 97 db. The document is in a table form, I convert text to table. For some reason it only reads 21 of the 22 columns. Each column does not always have information in it, but the first one in all the reports I tried do.

There is also a Comment line underneath the main record line, when I create the table it reads this as another record (I cannot think of a way to get it to delete the comment line as this is usually nothing that I need to track).

I try to paste into Access and get paste errors. I have tried to convert the Word doc to a form but have not been able to either. The reason I want to convert the document is the people who send it have a record number that they refer to, that right now I have to manually got to the original document. Any ideas would be appreciated.

My brother has an old pfs:database file wih his life on it and wants to convert it to some other program (free, of course) that will enable him to print out names, tel numbers, birth dates, according to his needs.  Anyone know how he can convert to something current to do this.

I think he lost his original disks and wants to convert before he loses it.

I converted it to Excel but it's 50 columns wide and totally convoluted.

Thanks

Hey everybody

I am using a ASP login script that I found online, to run the login for a site I developed. It works great, but uses an access database to hold the usernames.

My problem is, I am afraid that I will end up having to many users for the access database to handle. I want to convert this database to a MS SQL database, since my web host has a tool on the site that lets me create MS SQL databases.

I don't know exactly how to declare all the data types in the tables however. I've attached the database, after deleting all the records, so it just has the table structures in it.

Can anyone give me advice on what data types I will need for each field/ any other advice?

Thanks

I belong to a religious volunteer group and we have a database of about 10,000 names in Alpha 4 database. I want to convert it to Access and I was thinking of buying a program http://www.simx.com/simx/simx.stt/comp=cgs...ctr=H12_c5j885n It's called Text Converter and it costs $300. Does anyone know anything about this company? Are there any other programs out there that may be better? Thanks for your help. Sannunziata

A:Converting Alpha 4 Into Access Database

I know nothing about the Alpha4 Db, but it does seem that you can export data to Excel files at least. Have you posted about your problem to the Alpha Forums? One would think there would be a less expensive way to convert records to Access format.http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/alphafor...&order=descRegards,John

we have a table that has some yes/no fields in it and we need to do a report where the yes = 1 and no =0. how do i convert this so i can total the yeses and give me an average?

A:access converting yes/no field to quantity

The IIF function should allow you to test for a value and based on that value perform something else. Something like:

SELECT IIF(MyYesNoField = YES, MyCount = MyCount + 1, MyCount)

Not sure on the exact format or the fields you are using, so that will take some research in HELP and modification to fit your needs.

Hey all, I'm trying to turn my D-link wireless router into an access point. I heard that if you leave the Wan port empty, and simply plug into one of the Lan ports on the Router/Switch it can be turned into an access point. I tried doing this and disabled all security measures on my other wireless router, however have not had any luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi guys….

I’m using Access 2003 running under Windows Vista Home Premium
to develop a Book lending system for a local Charity.
I’ve been using Access for about six months now, so I guess
the “newbie” tag is still applicable!

Relevant to my question, I have the following Tables and Fields
Book Table – Fields : Book Id
This holds a record for each Book
Loan Table – Fields : Book Id, Borrower Id, Date Borrowed, Date Returned
This holds a record of every Loan - If the [Date Returned] is null, the Book
is still out on loan

I’m trying to develop SQL to enable me to determine the Books
which a Borrower has already borrowed, and the books which are
currently out on loan (to anyone). If I can then combine these lists
into one query, I can generate a list of all Books which are currently
on loan, or have previously been read by this Borrower.
If I then run this as an “exclusion” query against the Book Table,
I will have a list of Books available for this Borrower to select from..

I was hoping to generate Queries via Access, then use the SQL view
to get at and manipulate (slightly) the “specific” SQL to make it
“general” SQL by using VBA to modify the Borrower Id.

In Access I have got the queries working for a specific Borrower id (71).

My problem is converting the working “Final” query to native SQL,
because Access uses the name of the Union Query in the “Final” query.

I was hoping to replace the name of the Union Query with the actual
SQL of the Union Query, ... Read more

A:Problems converting Access 2003 queries to SQL.

I'm missing something here. What's the reality of

Code:
WHERE [Combined subqueries for 71].[Library Number] Is Null;
I mean, can a book be loaned if it has no library number? Is it listed in the Book table at all?

Anyway, I would do this differently. Something like the query below:

Code:
SELECT Book.[Book No], Book.[Library Number], Book.Title
FROM Book
WHERE
(Book.[Library Number] NOT IN
(SELECT DISTINCT Loan.[Library Number] FROM Loan
WHERE Loan.[Date Returned] Is Null))
AND
(Book.[Library Number] NOT IN
(SELECT DISTINCT Loan.[Library Number] FROM Loan
WHERE Loan.[Borrower Number]=71))

I am trying to convert Access To Excel. There are paragraph marks in the Access cells. This is a big problem because in Excel, a paragraph mark means a new row. Thus, when I paste into Excel I get extra rows with data I do not want. What can be done about this?
