Motherboard temperature calibrations out of whack?

Q: Motherboard temperature calibrations out of whack?

When booting the cold PC the MB temperature reads about 8 degrees C above the room temperature!
The CPU temperature at boot up is at about room temperature as one would expect.

During normal operation (room about 25 C) the MB temperature rises to 45 C or higher; whilst the CPU temp reading is only about 30 C. In other words the CPU temp is consistently way below the MB temp.

Can I believe any of the readings?
What do you experts think about this?
What is a critical temp for the MB?
Do I need to worry?

Motherboard: ASUS P5V800-MX
CPU: Pentium 4, D 930 (Dual Core) 3.0 GHz
The PC is one month old.

Thank you very much for your guidance,

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

having just installed a zalman heatsink/CPU fan i've started looking into the temperatures inside my PC...

my CPU temperature goes from 38C to 45 C depending on if i have the CPU fan running or not,

my motherboard temperature goes from 43C to 48C likewise depending on the CPU fan... which is around 5C above the CPU temperature...

should this bother me?

Two PCs running at around 35/37 degC and CPU fan running around 800 to 1900rpm. The third PC which is around 3 years old runs at 45 degC on the CPU and 54degC on the mobo and the CPU fan is running at up to 3000rpm, which would explain why it is noisy. Is this too high? The heatsink is dusty, but I've not bucked up courage to remove it and clean it yet. Local guy suggested vacuuming it I've got some thermal paste but no air yet. Should I be looking at changing the heatsink and fan and adding a bigger case fan to cool things down?

A:CPU/Motherboard temperature

Blow the dust out with canned air. 3-5$ a can. (please do it outside ) Vacuuming works but it's risky. I do it myself, but you can potentially permanently damage the whole system, so it's not recommended. 45 is not extremely high, the CPU will work at 60-70 just fine, but it's not healthy. Don't spend money to bring the temps down, after you undust it, it should be running at low enough temperatures.

If the fan keeps running at high speeds and annoys you, you might want to consider replacing it, or using BIOS settings to keep the speed at reasonable levels. Post your system model or motherboard/CPU model if you want advice on that side of this.

I was wondering that if my Mobo is at 40c.. is that good or bad? HMonitor shows a "yellow" background behind the temperature reading. Does this mean "Caution"? I might install a second fan at the top of the case if needed.

Hey all,

I've installed a prog called Speccy to check out temperatures while playing games and the thing that concerns me is that my motherboard gets really hot (around 80'C) while the game is on, but when idle it is about 40-45'C...

Is that too hot??

I'll attach a snapshot so someone with that program can see what are my PC specs..

Cheers guys and thanks for the help

A:Motherboard Max Temperature

That 50c is very high for mobo chipset, hows your case cooling, make shure of proper circulation. intake and exhaust fans. 50c for mobo is tad too high, try to hit 40's at least, by rearranging fans or changing some thang. GL<

Ok. Ive just REBUILT a computer that i had many problems with. Most things seem to be fine. It's a little hot today...about 75 degrees fahrenheit outside. anyway i dont have air conditioning...and here are my temps idle CPU: 38C
Motherboard: 37C GPU: 48C

My power supply is a LITTLE bit worriesome. it's fine in the comp's idle state but on load (such as in half life 2)...it does get quite hot. I heard that it's a huge problem if it's too hot to touch. This isn't the case with me. It gets at a slightly "uncomfortable" heat level... as in i could keep my hand on it for as long as i wanted but it's just hot. I'm guessing...judging by my GPU temp and it's feel about 55 C maybe? on the top of the PSU. maybe it's because it's 550w and my comp needs a lot of power? i dont know. i have 1x 120mm blue led Thermaltake intake fan on the front of my case. 1x 80mm LED fan on the window. 1x normal 120mm fan on the back(exhaust) and a pci slot blower.

Thanks in advance.

I am currently monitoring my motherboards temperature.

My setup uses standard fans to keep it cool. I have intentions to change this in the future but not right now.

The most common figures I see is usually between 39C - 49C.

As I know nothing about hardware I was wondering if there is a recommended temperature to turn the computer off. For example I would like to know what temperature isn't safe or is considered "too high". If needed I can provide specifications.

Any help is great

Hy everyone, my laptop lately has been acting up, the motherboard temperature at idle jumps randomly up 60, i have ran several antiviruses and malwabytes programs and my laptop is clean, i have checked every processor running in the background and nothing seems to be off, just recently i got my laptop cleaned and i noticed major improvement in temperature, it might seem weird but if im using any program temperature doesnt raise above 50, i even play MW2 and it says below 60, but as soon as i get off my laptop after about 10 to 15 minutes motherboard temp jumps to 60 and goes down while the cpu stays in range between 42 and 45.
My hands are tied, im really confused about this, i would appreciate any help.

I have an old gfxcel pcchips 757 motherboard with celeron 433mhz . It used to run at around 55 degrees centigrade and now suddenly I found the temperature at 73 degrees. Then I checked the fan and it showd jerky movements and looked slow and then I changed the fan. But even after changing the fan the motherboard temperature has not fallen and it stays at 73 or 74 for most of the time. ( cpu temp is not high and usually it is below 35 C)
I check these temperature readings from aida 32.
I will be very thankful if anyone can tell me about the right temp of this motherboard and if it is safe to keep working at this temp.
I asked a techie about it and he said that it was okay and that I should not worry about it and keep working at these high temps and close the computer only if the computer started hanging. But I am not satisfied and ask for your opinion . thanks in advance.

Ok, this is very strange. I have installed MBM 5 on my newest computer, and the temps look great idle, as well as full load playing games. But the last 2 days it seems there are temperature spikes or MBM reporting incorrectly.
I have come home from work to find that the proc temp reached above my set limit of 70C, and the pop up box asks whether or not I want to ignore it or turn off computer.
Well when I see that screen it is reporting good temps, around 50C.

So, is this a problem with MBM, or am I having probs with my machine?

This is the error recorded in the log.

Even 50 deg. is high. Why don't you install CPU-idle? Get version 6.0b or version 7 Extreme.
My not OC'd Athlon 1900 never goes over 32 deg, using the Zalman Flower CNPS6000-Cu (fan at 2200 rpm) and CPU-idle 6.0b.

Could it be possible that your CPU-cooler is not completely tight onto the CPU? After all, it hangs on its side all the time.

Sort of a crosspost in here, since this forum fits one of my major problems more accurately...

Basically, I think a lot of the issues are stemming from my CD-ROM dying for no real reason(I rarely use it due to using an external CD-ROM drive). It would begin by randomly opening the tray when nothing would spur it too, and when it would close it would freeze my machine. And now it's moved on to lagging the boot-up process by giving me these odd "configuration automatically updated for: CD-ROM" or something akin any time the CD-ROM doesn't boot up with the computer right. This is a major pain in the neck and I'm wondering what my recourse is. As I say in the thread, I removed the CD-ROM from my System Devices, but no go. Do I need to open the box and unplug power to it to get any respite(which I'm scared to do)?

A:CD-ROM in an old Compaq all out of whack...

Do I need to open the box and unplug power to it to get any respite(which I'm scared to do)?Click to expand...

That's exactly what I would recommend. That would also allow you to determine if it is the cause of the problem. If the other problems also go away, you know it was the CD drive all along.

It's easy to disconnect the power. It's a four-contact connector about three quarters of an inch wide. You could also disconnect the ribbon cable. It's usually gray, flat and about two inches wide; but, if you disconnect the power, that is usually sufficient.

Hi, I recently changed from ME to XP Professional. Today my computer automatically updated something and restarted itself & now the screen has gone too big (although still set at 800 x 600 where I always have it). The buttons at the sides (e.g. scroll arrow, x-button for closing page) are gone out of sight. And all boxes and windows now have concave sides. Restarting didn't fix it. This happened once before & just seemed to go back to normal a few days later.

It's also telling me "Local Area Connection - Network cable unplugged".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone confirm by how many degrees the room temperature would increase in an office if there were to be an increased number of PC's and Monitors?
I am assuming that this will be dependant on the size of the office, the temperature of the computers and the number of staff in the office.
Does an equation exist to work out the increase in temperature?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As others who've recently started threads here, I'm also being attacked by popup zombies. They rise when I'm using Firefox or IE7, and sometimes, IIRC, when I'm using neither. They mostly offer to install some security software or antispyware software, but I'm sure it's all foistware or other malware.

I've made some attempts to clean things out -- mostly helpful, I think, but not 100% successful. Disabling popups altogether in IE7 has helped a lot.

Here's the HijackThis log in the current state. I suspect it's not clean, yet, as I'm sure the popups will resume once I restore IE7's default setting. Can someone tell me what to do?

She had an email exchange that went back and fourth for a few months, lots of text, and she wants to copy and paste it to a word \ .doc file. It started off normal enough, but like I said, as I went down it looked like that, (sans the random letters I used.) The spacing was way off as well. So I copied and pasted it in word and tried to realign the body, nothing. Same with other basic office programs, still no luck. I even tried to fudge around in the browser through the email body and again, nothing. So I'm curious if there's any advice \ options here to get this text back to normal? Thanks in advance!

The computer I bought recently came with a Sparkle 8600 GT and I had lots of problems wiht it. I already replaced the thing and I couldn't send it back, but I just want to know what the problem was. I got different drivers, I had the same problem. I dropped it in a freinds computer, same problem. The card was physically working, as long as I didn't install the drivers it wouldn't crash. So I tried the onboard video Xpress 1300 and there was no crashing. I went to several different forums and asked for reasons but no one would reply to the threads. I eventually gave up and bought an 8600GTS and installed that. Does anybody have any idea what was going on? I even monitored the temperatures and it never really went over 40*C.:dead:

My left speaker is dimmed almost to where I cannot hear any sound out of it, the right speaker is amplified, and it appears that the center speaker and the subwoofer have their signals crossed.
I have tried everything I know to try and have had no luck so here goes w/ what i have tried.

To start with, I have onboard sound that supports 5.1 speakers so that is not the problem. I have reinstalled drivers and updated them and this didnt seem to help.
I changed cable wires to the speakers and this moved the problem to my right speaker w/ my left speaker turning to clear sound so it isnt blown.
In addition, I bought a 5.1 headset, and its the exact same problem on them w/ the left front dim and the right front amplified.
The connections are color coded and Ive even tried swapping them out to see if it helped....to no avail. I dont see any jumpers I can reset on the mobo so I dont think thats a problem either.

A few weeks ago my Windows 10 computer crashed on shutdown. It wasn't just a BSOD. The machine froze with a constant beep. I powered it down, but the next morning the system wouldn't boot, because it turned out that all the BIOS settings were wiped. I set everything to what it was before (I think) and the system booted fine after that. Everything seemed to be normal except one thing. Since that freeze the system time has been completely out of whack. It used to be very accurate, synchronizing to NTP reference time every hour. Now it's all over the place. It's still set to sync every hour, but it's no more accurate. Not for a minute. It's usually behind by a minute or two, but now for example it's late by 3 minutes and perhaps 20 minutes ago was late by 4 minutes. Then it will jump ahead of the correct time by 15 seconds or so to quickly fall behind by a minute or more. This is crazy. It looks like some Windows internal time keeping got completely messed up. Does anybody know how to fix this weird problem? Thanks.

Hi there, I have an "HP Envy 15t-J100 Quad edition CTO" and  I run windows 10, upgraded from Windows 8.1  My PC is just over a year old (so out of warranty) but it is supposed to be Energy Star rated. I am having an issue with my fan constantly running. ever since hooking up the old CRT, the browser's preview/print got out of whack.
And even when experimenting by re-connecting the LCD, the preview/print remained out of whack.

Any solution?

Just a suggestion, but it maybe to do with the paper size in Print Properties. I had a problem not so long ago, when a computer at my workplace kept defaulting to the letter print size and starting printing half an A4 page.

If your page setup is set to A4, you could try messing around with the margins in Page Setup. Some web pages do not print properly on A4, due to the the height and width of the web page. Some web pages offer a printer friendly version which just prints the main information you need.

Alternatively, you highlight the images and/or text you want to print and go to File, Print and click the selection button before you print, which will only print what you have highlighted.

Hope this helps.

I've been having an issue with a bit of Malware (at least, as far as I can tell).  The issue is, quite bluntly, that I know something is off but my Malware detection software (I have, in the last week, attempted to use Windows Defender, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes to no avail).  It initially manifested as a flood of "ComSurrogate" instances, but it has transitioned to acting somewhat differently (I'll shut down all the instances in an attempt to keep my system running).
I have managed to intermittently neutralize the process that was locking my system up, but only by using a "dirty trick": I've got some old install files that I'll copy, rename, insert in lieu of the "trouble" file, and then kill all permissions on.  The trouble program attempts to execute the file (which is now benign...my computer promptly starts trying to install Prime Minister Forever-Australia), and when I kick in the permission lock it stops even doing this.
Over the weekend, the file which manifested as a "trouble spot" was named "odavgu.exe"; I neutralized this Saturday night.  Tonight, I got to deal with one named "gvvvmpjnqcrb" (I suspect also a .exe) that was masquerading as Google Chrome.  That one was obviously a fake: I've never used Chrome...so the Malware got to try and control a parliamentary election again.
So...what do I do with this royal mess?

A:ComSurrogate and Malware Whack-a-Mole

This is an infection we won't deal in this forum, because we need specialized tools that we use only in Malware Removal Logs section. I am asking this thread to be moved to the appropriate section and we will go from there

So I've reformatted (sometimes I do that when I'm bored...) but now my computer won't cycle down after a certain time has passed. In my settings it says that that the monitor should turn off in 10 minutes of no use and other various things will sleep after 20 minutes of no use.

These settings used to work, but now they don't? I have a ghost in the machine!

A:My Power Management Settings Are Whack, Yo!

Did you try to re-apply new settings ?

You might have a corrupted install ,I would try to customize the settings again and wait to see if it takes effect

Unless you unconciously deactivated it by moving something while it was set like bumpin the mouse a little

I have windows 7 + an I7 processor. When I turned my computer on today, all the colors, especially blue, orange, and pink are incredibly bright. I've tried adjusting them and nothing works. Is this anything you've ever heard of before? Please help!Thank-you.

A:Solved: Colors on computer out of whack.

Loose cable. Disconnect the DVI or VGA cable from both the monitor and the tower and reconnect. Any change?

Bring up the menu on the monitor, how do the colors there look? Distorted or the same?

If distorted, its probably a bad monitor.

If the OSD looks good, tell your monitor to restore default settings. Any better?

So i am building a machine for a friend, its a pretty nice one

athlon 64 4000+
2x1gb sticks of Geil ddr2 800 4-4-4-12
ghetto HDD (its just his old one till he gets a replacement. its a maxtor fireball 3 lololol)
GeForce 8800gs 320mb, by eVGA
nf590 chipset mobo by XFX

anyways... got everything put together, checked the bios settings and set up the ram settings and such, booted and Windows (an old install) insta-crashed with a bsod, and restarted to a blank black screen, not even the little white dash pinging in the top left.

So... i decided to try formatting the drive and starting over. Everything went well with re-formatting the HDD, but on booting into windows setup the system would freeze or just restart to that blank screen again.

I thought it might be the HDD, so i pulled my 300g sata drive out of my own comp, with almost identical hardware save a 7900gs and an nf4 ultra mobo, and booted up, got up to the windows XP welcome screen and got the usual "hardware radically changed, you have 3 days to reactivate windows". I selected no to wanting to do it right now, (with the keyboard, i thought was interesting, though i was running a USB mouse which wouldnt work. it got power but no control of the pointer. was thinking cause the chipset hasnt been installed? o_O but it worked w/o chipset drivers when i have built other systems.) Anyways, once the windows welcome splash closed i had, the first time, about 10 seconds of normal boot before a 1minute shut... Read more

A:aack! help meh... home built system on the whack!

Hi John and welcome to TSF.

If you suspect the HDD, why not try testing it the other way round, i.e. slaving it in your own machine rather than putting your drive in the new machine?
You haven't mentioned what PSU you are using with this setup. You are going to need something pretty powerful.

My task manager has been showing really small numbers in the Memory column for a while now. I can't tell how much memory I'm using and it lags more. Firefox and stuff shows only 150k and most of the other stuff says its only using 1 or 2 k! How do I make it show the real numbers?

A:Task Manager memory values are whack!

I am not sure how to fix the Task Manager problem, however if you want to get an idea of the true memory usage you can use Process Explorer - part of the Sysinternals Suite from Microsoft.

Process Explorer - http://live.sysinternals.com/procexp.exe

I recently just got all of my Xbox 360 setup (to my monitor) complete. I love running my games in 720p HD, 1280x1024 is my native resolution, so a small step above 1280x768. The thing is, I don't really think I am getting the same picture quality that I could get from a tv. The brightness or something just seems off. Everything just seems a bit too dark or something.

This may not be the right place to post or even forum but I came here just for a bit of direction on where to go with this. I would just like to see what the most popular or recommended RGB, brightness, and contrast settings are to see if I can get a better effect.

Hi - Just jumped from 8.0 to 8.1 and all is well except Explorer is whack.

Please see attached jpg, which shows the 12 extra networked machines and the 10 extra media shares.

I don't know any of those people! The list changes from time to time, but always 100% strangers.

A cosmetic fix is interesting, but not top priority. I can live with seeing weird extra screen clutter.

I can't live with a security hole. I need to understand, please, who did what to make these extra items appear in Explorer (both panes).

A wild guess: Skydrive. I haven't yet configured it, haven't yet a single Skydrive clue. Maybe the extra items are being shown to me by Skydrive... But if so, could that cut both ways? That is, without me knowing it, is my machine showing up in Explorer on other people's machines?

Any help from you gurus much appreciated

thanks, Bruce

A:Whack media devices appear in Win8.1 Explorer

I found one solution, which is to disable SkyDrive

See: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...e-disable.html

It didn't take full effect right away. Initially I thought it didn't work, so unfortunately I didn't take notes on how many reboots/Explorer-restarts are required before it does take full effect.

At some point I suppose it will be desirable to start using SkyDrive, so if anyone comes up with a better solution to the stranger-devices, a solution that doesn't require disabling SkyDrive, please share.

thanks, Bruce

I've checked the checksums from some other boot discs with ghost.exe that work, they are the same...

btw, old disc have outdated version of network drivers that do not work

i'm following the same process as i did before...

DEVICE=\net\protman.dos /I:\net

@echo off
SET TZ=GHO+05:00
mscdex /L:D /d:mscd001
prompt $p$g
if %config% == FROMCD goto CDBOOT
cd \ghost
echo Loading Ghost...
GHOST.EXE -nousb
goto END
ghost will open, screen starts fine, and then turns to this:

I have searched the forum already and couldn't find the correct fit for my issue.  So far I have a W530 wide screen that has been having odd color issues.  When initily booted up the color is fine, how ever after about ten minutes in the colors snap and go wierd.  (see photo) I have already checked the drivers and did a recalibration of the montor.  After a restart the cycle simply repeats.

I have an AMD 955 CPU and ROG Crosshair III formula motherboard

When testing, I use both HWM Pro, AMD Overdrive and LCD Poster to watch out for the temps.

In both HWM Pro and LCD poster there is the CPU temperature showing.

I use AMD overdrive to look for Core temps...

The max temp is 62C...

Is that the max CPU temp or max CPU core temp???

While testing, Highest CPU temp was 53C (@3.8GHz, IntelBurn) and Core temp was 59C....

So which one shall I look out for?

A:Core temperature or CPU temperature?

''personally'' i watch the (CPU temp), the individual core temps fluctuate far too much for a constant temp reading.
