SMTP doesn't work on remote machine

Q: SMTP doesn't work on remote machine

I'm trying to setup TLS e-mail on remote machine, but it doesn't work.
Trying to send e-mail on my local machine (Windows 7 x64 locale ru-ru) and it works:

16:33:18 CONNECT : Looking up host name mail.domain.com...
16:33:18 CONNECT : Host name mail.domain.com found
16:33:18 CONNECT : Connecting to host mail.domain.com [123.456.789.123:25]...
16:33:18 CONNECT : Connected to host mail.domain.com [123.456.789.123:25]
16:33:19 SMTP REPLY: 220 mail.domain.com ESMTP Postfix
16:33:19 SMTP SEND : EHLO hostname
16:33:19 SMTP REPLY: 250-mail.domain.com
16:33:19 SMTP REPLY: 250-SIZE 73400320
16:33:19 SMTP REPLY: 250-VRFY
16:33:19 SMTP REPLY: 250-ETRN
16:33:19 SMTP REPLY: 250-8BITMIME
16:33:19 SMTP REPLY: 250 DSN
16:33:19 SMTP REPLY: 220 2.0.0 Ready to start TLS

All is correct.
Then, using the same email account, on remote machine, all settings are absolutely identical (Windows XP Home locale ru-ru):

16:34:29 CONNECT : Looking up host name mail.domain.com...
16:34:29 CONNECT : Host name mail.domain.com found
16:34:29 CONNECT : Connecting to host mail.domain.com [123.456.789.123:25]...
16:34:30 CONNECT : Connected to host mail.domain.com [123.456.789.123:25]
16:34:30 SMTP REPLY: 220 ***************************
16:34:30 SMTP SEND : EHLO hostname
16:34:31 SMTP REPLY: 250-mail.domain.com
16:34:31 SMTP REPLY: 250-SIZE 73400320
16:34:31 SMTP REPLY: 250-VRFY
16:34:31 SMTP REPLY: 250-ETRN
16:34:31 SMTP REPLY: 250-8BITMIME
16:34:31 SMTP REPLY: 250 DSN
16:34:31 SMTP SEND : QUIT
16:34:32 SMTP REPLY: 221 2.0.0 Bye
16:34:32 DISCONNECT: Disconnected from server

As you see, something substitutes mail commands.
P.S. Telnet gives the same results:

SMTP REPLY: 220 ***************************

1. All workstations work normaly with this smtp-server. Only this pc fails to send.
2. Scanning with antivirus gave no results
3. In disk C there are leftovers of Combofix (Quobox folder). But I can't remove it, access denied. Also I can't remove Combofix with "combofix /uninstall", command not found.
Any help would be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: SMTP doesn't work on remote machine

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: SMTP doesn't work on remote machine

The correct way to uninstall ComboFix, all of its related folders, files and logs is to make sure it is still on the Desktop (<-Important!!!) and follow these instructions. When finished you will see a dialog box stating that "ComboFix has been uninstalled".After that, you can remove the ComboFix.exe program from your Desktop by right-clicking on it and choosing delete. If you encounter any problems using the switch from the Run dialog box or Search field, just rename ComboFix.exe to Uninstall.exe, then double-click on it to remove. If ComboFix is no longer on your Desktop, re-download it from here, save to the Desktop and follow the instructions above to properly uninstall it from your computer.Another option if the above is unsuccessful is to download DelFix by Xplode and save to your Desktop.Double-click on delfix.exe to run the tool.Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.Put a check mark next to these items:- Activate UAC- Remove disinfection tools- Create registry backup- Purge System Restore- Reset system settingsClick the "Run" button. When the tool has finished, it will create and open a log report (DelFix.txt)A copy of that report will be saved to the following location C:\DelFix.txt.-- Doing this will remove many specialized tools downloaded and used for malware removal. Any leftover logs, files, folders or tools remaining on your Desktop which were not removed can be deleted manually (right-click on it and choose delete).

I am trying to configure a program to notify me by email(smtp) when a process has finished on my Windows 7 Pro SP1 machine. I get an error everytime I try to test it.

I also have a camera on my network, not connected to this machine, and smtp works just fine. I am using identical settings for both, but only the Windows 7 machine has an issue.

When I send an email via smtp on the camera, I can see the activity on my router's ougoing log (ip address, port, etc). However, when I try from the windows 7 machine nothing shows up in the router activity log which leads me to believe the computer is the issue, and the request is not actually making it to the internet at all.

I tried to disable my firewall and internet security, but I still have the same issue.

Any suggestions?

A:SMTP will not work on windows 7 machine

Whats the name of the program that does the monitoring ?

Maybe the program is not seeing that your process is finishing, so nothing is being sent in the first place.

Also what firewall and internet security are you using?

My goal is to restore a remote desktop to the local console so that the user doesn't have to re-enter their password and log back in. While connected remotely to a Windows 7 machine via RDP, I run the following command in a batch file:
tscon %sessionname% /dest:console

This works fine if I connect via RDP with an account in the Administrators group. The problem is when I RDP to the remote machine with an account that's not in the Administrators group, I get the following error:

Could not connect sessionID 1 to sessionname console, Error code 5
Error [5]:Access is denied.

The batch file needs to be run as an Administrator for it to work. I don't have the Administrator account password, but I do have credentials for an account that is in the Administrators group on the machine. I've tried a few different things to run the batch file as an Administrator, but I can't get it to work right.

So my question is how can I get the tscon.exe command to work on this remote machine as a non-Admin?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tried asking for help in the Networking forum, but nobody would reply, so I thought I'd try here before giving up altogether.

Twice I have been unable to make a connection to offer RA to a friend. Our basic system specs are as follows:

Both have DSL (different providers).

My end: Win7 Pro; Linksys WRT54GS (v6) router with UPnP enabled; Windows firewall set to allow RA.

His end: Vista HP; a Netgear WGR614 (v7) router with UPnP enabled; RA allowed in firewall.

We can easily establish a chat connection using Live Messenger (latest version). I suggested on both occasions that he request RA from me via Messenger. After entering his RA session password at my end, it is unable to make the connection. Only vague, general possible reasons for failure are offered by the RA software. Microsoft offers a connectivity diagnosis tool online, but it is not compatible with Win7, so I cannot run it for reliable results on my box.

Reading in "Windows 7 Inside Out" (published by Microsoft Press) about RA, it notes that with the advent of Vista, RA is supposed to easily traverse a pair of NAT routers to link a pair of computers. Well, apparently not in my case, which is why I'm asking for help here.

Maybe I'm just too bleary-eyed from frustration to see where I'm missing a critical setting either within Windows (Win7 & Vista) or in router setup. Can someone guide me through steps most likely to make this work?

I should note that I have subsequently tried TeamViewer, and did ... Read more

A:Remote Assistance over net doesn't work

Alright, so it occurred to me to "just try something, anything" in hopes of finding a clue. My desktop consistently fails when trying to initiate a RA connection via the Easy Connect method (either to Invite Someone, or Help Someone). It churns for bit, then returns with "Easy Connect is not available .....Can't connect to the global peer-to-peer network ."

This usually leads to a suggestion to run MS's Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool, resulting with a "Not Supported" for the NAT Type test, and "Not Run" for the UPnP test. UPnP is definitely enabled in the router (actually, in all three of them I've tried).

So, for the hell of it, I tried a household laptop (Win7 too) via wireless to the same router (currently D-Link DIR628). Easy Connect on the lappy succeeds every time in linking to the "global peer-to-peer network". It either presents me with a password to convey to my "helper", or a RA terminal waiting for me to enter the "requestor's" password. Weird. Good, but weird.

If I run the Connectivity Tool from the laptop to the same router, it returns a "Supported" result for NAT Type, but still "Not Run" for UPnP. At least something seems to be working right.

Now the obvious question would be why my desktop cannot do the Easy Connect thing, but the laptop can, with same OS and behind the same router. There must be some software setting in 7 on the desktop at fault. I briefly en... Read more

Ok, To be quite honest I never really use the sleep feature on my computer, possibly the only time I ever did was to test it was working, But anyway the problem is that whenever I'd have My machine asleep whether it be pressing the button by accident or doing it intentionally, when I tell it to wake it up, It does everything normally (Brings back Desktop etc.) but the keyboard (And sometimes the mouse) are practically dead, No lights on and stuff, and doesn't come back unless I restart and on some occasions completely unplug the power cables for about half an hour.

I did some research around and I couldn't find anything helpful, Some suggested upgrading the Bios (Done) and some said turning off the respective settings in "Power options" and the "Device manager" (Did that too) and still no result, I'm using windows 7 SP1 and all the latest drivers and updates, My motherboard is an Intel DH67CLB3 with latest bios.

The real problem for me is that I don't know how long it has been going on for and whether or not I had anything to do with it, because like I said I rarely use the sleep button, But whenever I do It always does this on wakeup.

Can Anyone help?

A:Keyboard doesn't work after waking up my machine.

Method 1
Verify if the keyboard is enabled to wake the computer out of sleep mode.

a) Open the Keyboard control panel item, as described in Method 1.
b) Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.
c) Click the Change Settings button

Note This step requires Administrator access
d) Click the Power Management tab, and then verify that Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
e) Click OK, and then click OK again.

Method 2
If the above step fails then make sure that you have updated the drivers for the keyboard from the manufacturer website.
Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

A:Internet doesn't work on win7 machine

Varying on your Network Adapter/Driver, you may have to allow your TCP/IP & DNS to set automatically, rather than manually. If anything, the easiest way to check for issues is to right click on your "Network" Icon in your System Tray, and click "Troubleshoot Problems".

Manual Steps:

Rick Click the Network Icon in your System Tray.
Left Click "Open Network and Sharing Center".
In the Left window pane, click "Change Adapter Settings".
Right Click "Local Area Connection"
Left Click on "Properties" (and Allow the UAC)
Click on "Internet Protocol Version 6".
Click the "Properties" button.
Make sure the "Obtain {yada-yada} automatically" radio-box is selected on both the IP and the DNS.
Click OK.
Do the same for "Internet Protocol Version 4".
Restart your Computer

If the Issue still exists after these steps, verify that your Router or Modem is compatible with Windows 7.

Not all routers will work correctly with a Windows 7 based System.

Hope all is well.

I was RDP'ing from a Vista Business laptop to a Windows 2003 machine and the copy/paste feature does not work. I checked the RDP settings and under Advanced, the Clipboard is checked as a shared item. I RDP'd using an XP machine I have, and the copy/paste function works properly, leading me to believe it is something on this Vista machine.

Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening? Or any ideas that I could try out because I am out of ideas. Thanks!

Hello everyone. I am having an issue getting my laptop (has Windows 7 Home Premium) to connect to my desktop work computer (has Windows 7 Professional) using RDC. I keep getting the following message: "The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted". I have searched the forum and Google and can't find a solution.

I have done the basic steps of configuring both of the computer's firewall (making an exception for RDC) and have checked the "Allow remote desktop connection" in the System Properties---->Remote tab. What else needs to be done?

A:Remote Desktop Connection Doesn't Work!!!! HELP!!!

The wording is a bit confusing and they seem to dance around the issue somewhat. Home Premium can't host an RDC connection but it can connect to either a Windows Ultimate or Windows Professional or Windows Enterprize hosting RDC. There is no host settings in Home Premium.

Which editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection?

All editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection. You can use Remote Desktop to initiate a connection from any edition of Windows 7.
You can connect to computers running Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 7 Enterprise.
You can't use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, or Windows 7 Home Premium.
This isn't something that they advertise but this Technet thread talks about it.

But you can do this using Team Viewer which is free.

Or LogMeIn works for this also.

When I (or a friend) try to connect remotly on my distant computer, it doesn't work.
No error message or something like that, even with the wrong password.
The window just blinks quickly as usual (as it's verifying the ip or something), but after that it just asks the IP of the remote computer again.

Both computers have Win XP Pro SP2.
On the client, the rules on firewall are right (the problem persists even if I desactivate it). I don't have any router.
The remote desktop connection is obviously allowed.
I can ping the client.

I tried to install the SP3 (still on the client) to see if it fixes that, but it didn't.
So, the remote connection still doesn't work.
I've also asked for help on the official microsoft newsgroups, but no solutions yet.

Any idea to help me?

Hello. I am just trying to get some opinions on the subject of wireless remotes for a mouse. I can't believe it but someone on Amazon.com sold me a wireless laser mouse without a remote (MS wireless mouse 6000). Incredible.I have found that you cannot just use any remote to any mouse, even if it is the identifcal model. In fact, I have this same identifcal MS wiresless 6000 mouse but doesn't work with it. Is there something you can do to get them working? There is a section on Amazon.com where you click more and I guess that's probably where it said no remote. It sure wasn't made obvious-like in bold or something. He definitely intended to trick me. You have to completely read everything with people like that around. Not to mention, it wasn't even cheap.

Hi alls, I have searched on forum for the issue of remote, but no luck. so i start a new topic then.

I have this carte Creative SB X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion

Since from the site of Creative, it has only driver avaiable for windows 7 x64, so i installed the driver. It works great, then the console can work too, but he can't starting automaticlly when windows boots. - i have to start the console by my-self and he can't be in traybar (notification area) either.

Then the second thing is ... the remote doesn't work.

PS: I have used the update tool from Creative and all seem that all driver or soft is updated.

Anybody has a solution to make the remote works again in windows 7 ?

thank you as much.

A:Creative SB X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Remote doesn't work

Seems like an interesting piece of hardware there.

Yes. I have an idea.

Right click on the remote device in device manager. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste results here. I could possibly locate a driver for it using that information.

You can place a shortcut to the software you want to open with Windows in your user folder, under start menu, startup folder.

Here's the location:

C:\Users\{YOUR_USER_NAME_HERE}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If you want the software to open with Windows for all accounts, add the shortcut to here instead:

C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Okay here is the code - I wrote this in an infinte loop as this has to check for network connectivity every 10 mins. I dropped down the loop time just because I want to test it and don't want to wait 10 mins per cycle.

One Win7 machine on our work domain can only connect via wireless adapter. Realtek NIC card gives error "Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration". Win7 thru NIC adapter sees "unidentified public network" and has no internet connection. Wireless is too slow and need to figure this out.

2. In task manager find the rdpclip.exe running with your username
3. end process
4. file -> new task and type "rdpclip.exe"

Hi all,

Since 1 month ago im trying to setup, to configure, to understand authentication mode in SMTP IIS 6.0, with Windows 2003 Server.

I have done many test with SMTP but its impossible to me, found a solution.

I will try, with Google's Language Tool , to explain my situation. I have 2 servers. Server1 work as a Webserver and i need that this server send mail to web users. Server1 can't use local SMTP server. Server2 have a SMTP service and work well. Server1 and Server2 have a same ip range. Server2 use a SMTP service of IIS 6.0, not a Exchange server.

Scenario 1: External user tries to send an email to(E-Mail address blocked: See forum rules). The email arrives at your server. If Anonymous access is not checked, then obviously the email bounces, because there was no authentication process undertaken. However, with it checked, the session establishes and yourdomain.com is checked against your domain name. If it matches, the email is accepted (it does not require relaying!). HOWEVER, if the email is to(E-Mail address blocked: See forum rules), then your server DOES NOT accept the email because it NEEDS TO BE RELAYED to NOTyourdomain.com

I have a problem that is far beyond my limited skills. One of our people has a laptop that has either malware or a virus infecting it. Two symptoms are present: first, when using firefox web pages get redirected to advertising or to unrelated google searches; second, the machine seems more sluggish than usual.

I have tried to download anti-spyware software (e.g. Spy Sweeper, CounterSpy, MalwareBytes, Superantispyware, PC Doctor) and nothing works. In some cases such as Counterspy and PC Doctor, the executable will run but the program will not update (and thus, not allow for a scan). In other cases such as MalwareBytes, the executable simply will not run.

I have run a Trend Micro anti-virus scan. It seems to detect something but it crashes before the scan can complete. The same thing happens with Panda Activescan. Last night, I ran Panda Activescan for over 8 hours. When I woke up, the scan had frozen at the 52% point and had found 1 infected file, which it didn't appear to clean up.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate any help.

We have direcway as internet service. Someone sent an email to an address they have sent to before. It was returned undeliverable. The message was:

Your message can not be delivered to the following recipients - [email protected]. Reason: server rejected MAIL FROM address. Diagnostic code: SMtp;550 does not pass SPF requirements for domain [email protected].

I'm wondering what happened. The way we set it up with direcway was we kept our dialup account with our local provider and our email address. The settings are smtp.direcway.com and dns being the pop3 being mail.ourisp.com.

We've never encountered this problem before. Suggestions?

A:SMTP Doesn't Pass SPF Requirements?

SPF is an anti-spam method which checks the "From" field against the outgoing server, which in your case are different. I'm not sure if theres any way around it other than using the same smtp server as your e-mail address.

I am trying to use my CD-ROM drive and it doesn't work here are the list of things I have tried

Uninstalled and reinstalled the cd-rom driver it is a Matbleepa UJ-840D CD-ROM/DVD/CD-RW in my HP laptop (Didn't work)

Read stuff about code 39 and removed in the registry edit screen Upperfilters, Upperfilters.bak, Lowerfilters, Lowerfilters.bak and rebooted (Didn't work)

Removed itunes from computer (didn't solve the issue with cd-rom player)

Went back to a system restore point that was before the last time I used the CD-rom player and it worked and that (didn't work as well)

Read a lot of different posts about code 39 and nothing is given after the above steps are taken if it still won't work except to reformat which I would prefer not to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometime in August, my grandmother was convinced by the sales at CenturyLink to switch to CenturyLink from Comcast. Since then, we've been unable to access Gmail via the Apple Mail program as well as Thunderbird. I've tried opening the ports on the modem for SMTP, POP and IMAP, and none of those have helped. I've also tried using Thunderbird on Xubuntu 14.04, and Windows Mail and Thunderbird on Windows Vista and 7. I've tried it on all of those computers using Wi-Fi and Wired connections. Every time
I put the settings into Thunderbird, it gives an error message up at the top right that says

"Alert from account
[email protected]: Please log in
via your web browser:

I've done all of the steps on the troubleshooting page, but none of them have solved the problem. I've even tried the steps for allowing less-secure apps onto the account, but nothing has worked.

On Windows Mail, it just keeps asking for the username and password for POP.GMAIL.COM
I've checked the password, and I've tried retyping it. I've even tried typing it in Notepad and pasting it into the password box. It logs in with the password if I paste it into the Gmail page in Safari, but not if I enter it into the box on Windows Mail. If I press cancel while entering the password on Windows Mail, it has an error message like the one that is shown in Thunderbird. It says:

I come across an issue. I have some powershell scripts in a folder. My demand is that i'd like to share it with remote domain users. But i don't want them to check the content inside.
So, when i set the NTFS permission for the users,  I removed the read permission only retained 'Traverse folder/execute file" permission
and "list folder/read data" permission. however, the remote users could access the folder remotely but failed to see any scripts inside the folder. just looks like the the folder is empty.
My questions is if my requirement is viable with NTFS permission.

Hello All,

I have a situation where I need to map a network drive on a remote server so that a scheduled installation can tale place from the mapped drive. For scheduling the installation I used the Schtasks.exe which has an option to create the scheduled task on a remote machine too using :

Schtasks.exe /create /S <remote computer name>

What I am interested in knowing is if there is any EXE file that can help me map a network drive on a remote computer in the same manner as schtasks.exe as there is no option for doing it in net.exe that is used for mapping a network drive. To avoid confusion let me put up :

machine that I want to map the network drive upon : ABC
Server on which i need to map the network drive upon : XYZ
Network path to be mapped : \\PQR

A:Using Net Use on a remote machine

Hi rahul1911,

The procedure should be possible. Here's a tutorial that may help as it contains additional commands and addresses share issues: How-To Map a Network Drive using Windows 7, Vista or Windows Server 2008.

I hope this helps. If not, check to make sure the server is sharing properly and that permissions are set to allow this to occur (you aren't prohibited from Group Policy or Active Directory) and/or that you are using an appropriate username and/or password if required.

Good luck!

I recently switched my main computer over to Linux (from Win8), and everything is working fine, except that when I would remote into the computer from my other computer (running Win7), it was much faster when running Win8. Since I upgraded to Linux, I can connect, but the screen refreshes at a much slower rate, even over the same connection (LAN speed).

Anyone know of any settings either on the Win7 side or on the Linux server side that I can change to speed things up?

A:remote into Linux machine

Which Linux distro are you using ? There are some distros made specifically for older machines. For example, Fedora has it's flagship distro using Gnome, but it also has 2 lighter versions one using LXDE. and the other using Xfce.

Helloo I'm having a problem with connecting my Windows 7 laptop to my Windows XP Pro machine. I have my router at home (where the XP machine is) port forwarded for Remote Desktop, I set up the XP machine completely for connecting to by allowing exceptions for the Remote Desktop.

When on my Win 7 machine I type in the IP address and port and it gets me to the log in screen where it gives me the username (Matt) and I enter my credentials (password). After entering it and clicking OK it brings me back to the log in screen. Over and Over. Does anyone have an idea of what I may have done wrong? I can post a link of the site I used to set it up.

Do you have RDP access turned on for user Matt? If not you will not be able to use RDP.

I am interested in turning my PC to a remote machine (like a dedicated/rootserver) but to be able to start up and shut down my PC w/e I want remotely. Also I would like not to change my OS (windows) in order to achieve that, if it's possible of course. The whole thing has to do with my business trips (I have to travel around and change places) so I need to turn my home PCs into remote machines in order to be able to control them from my laptop. I searched a bit and I found this Home but I would like to find a way with windows.

I have one very powerful PC that I would like to use as a VM server, and then I have a netbook and a HP pavilion dv2000 laptop that I would like access the VMs. My ideal setup would be to have my main machine running Windows 7 and have two virtual machines running Windows 7 that would be accessed and used by the netbook and notebook across the network, this would allow the two mobile PCs to make use of the main PC's sizable resources while still being three different machines that can be used by three different people. The reason I want to do this is that I have a lot of people who want to use the computer, but only one that runs Windows, has Office, and is very powerful. Any help on this topic would be appreciated.

A:Remote Virtual Machine

Problem: The VMs would not have office unless you could install it in each VM and that means a separate product key.

Also, each instance of Win 7 would need it's own product key since you can't run the same one in a virtual machine.

Other than that it sounds doable running Win 7 guests under Oracle VirtualBox. Just set the networks up as Bridged so they get their IP address from the same router, then setup port forwarding to a VNC server running in each VM. TightVNC is a good choice.

I don't think you will be very happy with the performance though. Even with Gigabit network adapters it will be slow.

It would be fun to try though.

As someone who is working towards a bachelors degree in computer networking, I have a half decent understanding (or so I thought) of how the internet works. But today... today my mind was blown. I knowingly downloaded something for a game that was a bit sketchy, fully aware that there was a 90% chance a keylogger came packaged with it, didn't concern me that much. I tend to be a bit reckless with my machine because just about every virus I've ever come across I can take care of with relative ease (and heck virus removal offers a weird thrill). Throw in a Hiren's boot CD, run trusty old MBAM, TDSS killer etc. and smash malware with an iron fist. Not to mention I tend to re install my OS every two months because I make such a mess of my file system I figure its best I start anew, and continue to dump everything to desktop.
So here's the story of what happened today, I'm playing my game and having a blast when all of a sudden it closes. I figure "Hey, the game just crashed that's pretty lame". Upon attempt to run the game again and log in I was confronted with a "Password is incorrect" message, at this point I knew what was going on, got keylogged and someone was in the process of trying to cause havoc with the account. I giggled a bit, then proceeded to go to the website and push a password reset request through my email, since the email had a different password I wasn't too concerned. Upon logging into my email to confirm the password reset... Read more

Some simple exploit protection that I know of is EMET and Secunia PSI, if that fails, I usually just end up using a boot CD lol

About a week ago I went on a trip out of town and left a box running a game server through Hamachi at home. I have done this countless times and never had a problem. TeamViewer is loaded on the box and has always connected and ran just fine remotely. However, on this specific trip, TeamViewer simply gives up on trying to connect. The iPhone version brings up an error stating 'Protocol negotiation failed.' The game server application no longer responds either. Also, both the remote and the local machine I am on right now are connected through Hamachi on a VPN. The interesting thing is the remote computer responds to ping, allows me to bring up shared folders in Explorer, and is listed as running in the Hamachi client. What it does not allow me to do is control it remotely in any way. This system needs a restart badly and I have run out of ideas on how to remotely access it. Seeing that I am a couple of hundred miles away, I cannot drive over and restart it in person so easy. Here are some further details:

Remote System:
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
TeamViewer: Logged in and setup for unattended access - Shows up on my list with a yellow dot.
Hamachi: Connected with direct tunnel
Firewall: Comodo Firewall (older version) - Every program I've mentioned has been allowed through with no issue.

Local System:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
TeamViewer: Logged in and setup for unattended access
Hamachi: Connected with direct tunnel
Firewall: Windows Firewall

A:Need to restart remote machine, TeamViewer down, only on a VPN now

Well I drove back home earlier than expected and fixed the remote computer in person. Turns out the system had run out of memory after being on so long and TeamViewer simply had no resources to initiate, or everything was just timing out from the system taking so long with any request. I'll be picking up more RAM after the 4th. I suppose no one had any answers on how else I could restart the system remotely, but I'll be marking this thread as solved.

I have a Windows 7 machine that I'm trying to setup to allow Remote Desktop connections so that I can access my machine when I'm away from home. I used this method in the past with other machines and always enjoyed the convenience of working at my home PC when away on vacation, etc.

After setting it up, I can access the machine using Remote Desktop Connection from within the local LAN network using the computer name. However, I cannot access it using my external IP address which should be the router which should forward it to my personal computer. The error I get says "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: 1) Remote access to the server is not enabled, 2) The remote computer is turned off, 3) The remote computer is not available on the network."

Here is everything I've done so far:

I've enabled Remote Assistance connections via the System Properties and Allowed connects from any version of Remote Desktop

The Remote Desktop services (3 of them I think) are all enabled and started.

I've checked and Windows Firewall is allowing port 3389 through

I have an Asus RT-N66R router which I've added a Port Forwarding rule to forward that port to the LocalIP of my personal machine.

A:Can't get Remote Desktop working on my machine - help

Hi and Welcome to SevenForums.

I understand i am not answering your question directly with this reply but have you considered using TeamViewer to do this task?
Download Here - TeamViewer - Free Remote Control, Remote Access & Online Meetings

It is free for personal use and i've never come across an issue using this method of a remote connection from outside my home in all the years i have used it (within my home i use remote desktop).

Is there a reason for needing Remote Desktop?

I have run into an issue where psexec is not working on one of my remote clients. However, it is working on other remote clients. When I execute the psexec \\computername it returns with the error (Error communicating with PsExec service on the remote computer:
no process is on the other end of the pipe). I then am able to perform a pslist on the remote computer and I do see the PSEXESVC process, then I can run a pskill and end that process which I have seen by other people that this works and then they can execute
a psexec with no issue, this does not work for me still. I have also tried deleting the service on the remote computer using sc.exe \\computername delete PSEXESVC which completes successfully. I then run a psexec again and the service creates and starts but
the same error occurred. I can also confirm that the PSEXESVC application is running in the %WINDIR% directory on the remote machine. Has anyone else experienced this issue has is there a resolution to this issue.

Problem: As a member of the security team, I am not a member of the IT team. Therefore do not have access to physical lists of a given machine.

The easy solutions are-1. Ask IT for the list of machine names, 2. Ask someone physically at the location to look for the users cubical and tell me the machine name (located on the ID tag)

Issue: Examine the contents of a workstation somewhere on our intranet.
Known Data: Username, server, server profile, physical address (big deal), personal storage on the LAN. Every workstation on the intranet has a unique identifier assigned by IT and placed on label on the physical case. Connecting remotely is permissible for my position.

Question. Is there a way to look on the local server (remotely) and determine the IP or machine name from a profile stored on the server or any other identifying characteristics to help me map to this workstation.

The problem with my "easy solutions" are that IT is NOT security, asking anyone opens the door to multiple questions that cannot be answered during an active investigation, and the separation of management (which I am classified as) and the workers prohibits them from assisting. Last resort, if there is no way to virtually accomplish this, is to contact the manager of the office to physically look at the workstation.

Thanks for your help,
