What WiFi 5Ghz USB adapter buy ?

Q: What WiFi 5Ghz USB adapter buy ?

I'm planning to buy a WiFi 5Ghz USB adapter, but I don't know which one is truly plug and play.

Edit: By truly plug-and-play, I mean using the adapter without a driver taken from a website (and manually download it) or from a CD.

The target system is Windows 7, whatever version it can be.

Do anyone know if such WiFi adapters exists ?

Preferred Solution: What WiFi 5Ghz USB adapter buy ?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A:upgrading WIFI adapter to support 5ghz

Hello,               Since you mentioned that you need to chage the frequency band to 5Ghz. It is not possible as the maximum frequency band that this card can run is 2.4Ghz Only with data transfer speed of 300Mbps. However you can change the channel settings in the router and check whether that works.  ******Clicking the Thumbs-Up button is a way to say -Thanks!.********Click Accept as Solution on a Reply that solves your issue to help others** I am an HP Employee#HPExpertsday

Hi there

If you use Chromecast - great device too even if it is made by Google a drawback is that the wifi receiver in the Chromecast device is limited to the 2.4 GHZ band which can get severely congested at times (so slow performance).

This little device is an Ethernet adapter for your Chromecast - so you can plug the thing straight into your router / cablebox via its LAN connection.

Now you can use 5GHZ band on your client devices -- much faster wifi experiemce - for example I'm getting absolutely no video lag accessing Chromecast using 5GHZ band with INTEL Dual band AC7265 wifi adapter built in to my laptop.

If you have 5GHZ band available on your router - especially in urban areas / large cities use it before "The masses" discover it. !!!

Cheers

A:Chromecast - ethernet adapter - you can use 5GHZ wifi for clients

There is a way of connecting Chromecast via hard-wired Ethernet at about 1/3 cost of Google's device by buying a couple of adapters from your local electronics store or Amazon. See https://productforums.google.com/for...st/xo_NDh5CZA8

I've just done this and it works fine.

Hi everyone, I have a Linksys AE6000 Wireless USB adapter in my Laptop and it is 5Ghz enabled. When I first got my laptop it had Windows 8 on it, but before I did anything I reformatted it to Windows 7. Under Windows 7, this wireless adapter connected to my 5Ghz SSID on my router (the 2.4 and 5Ghz SSIDs are different from one another on my router) just fine and I was getting 500Mb/s speed over Wi-Fi. Then, I upgraded laptop to Windows 8.1, where adapter only detects my 2.4Ghz SSID, and now I only get 150Mb/s over Wi-Fi.

What do I do? I have tried reinstalling driver, using Win7 compatibility mode drivers, installing manually without GUI, I have made sure internal card is fully disabled, etc etc...

My specs are as follows:

Intel Core(TM) i7-3632QM Quad-core mobile CPU
8.00GB DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4000
AMD Radeon 7670M GPU 2GB
Samsung Evo 120GB SSD
HP ENVY/Pavilion m6
Internal Wi-Fi card - Intel Wireless-N 2230
External USB Wi-Fi - Linksys AE6000
Router - Netgear R6300
Internet Connection - 150Mb/s down , 10 Mb/s up
Thanks

HII have an HP envy bought in 2016. Just found out that it doesnt have a dual band adapter duet to which I am having issues at several places where I need to connect to wifi. How can I get this resolved, my machine is still under warranty . Secondly almost everytime I come into my home or office network my laptop fails to detect the wifi and I have to restart the machine to get online. This is very inconvenient. Can anyone suggest a way out. Has any of you with the same machine noticed that its a bit slow, even after being the configuration that it is. My old laptop boots and performs much faster.  Cheers

A:Network Adapter not detecting 5Ghz

You simply identify the laptop as an Envy and there are lots of Envy models. Please specify yours. If your laptop does not have a dual band (5 ghz) wireless card the only way to get one is to replace your card and install a dual band card. That is not going to be a warranty thing it will be at your expense. As for the slow performance that is going to require a bit more information and troubleshooting.

Hi guys, I have just upgraded my internet in the UK, and I can now receive speeds of up to 150mb.
My iPhone is fine and can connect to the 5Ghz network channel but my laptop cannot.

After a bit of looking into it, it seems my wireless card is not compatible, so I either need to change the wireless card within the laptop, or buy a dongle.

I'd rather install one within the laptop if that is possible (hp) or worst case, use a small dongle. The problem is, I really wouldn't want one the size of a normal USB pen, at the very most, one that is very small and cannot break.

Is there any suggestions on what to get? I type in on google but the dongles are all quite big.

Thanks

hi therealabdo,

Welcome to the Forums.

From this wikidevi page, the Realtek RTL8723BE is a b/g/n 1x1:1 (one transmit and receive radio chains).

If the Wireless Mode under WiFi properties is set to Auto, this means that card will use the fastest connection possible first, which is 802.11n.
    - Sample image

In addition, a b/g/n wireless card will not be able to detect a 5Ghz wireless access point as these type of cards can only detect and connect to a 2.4Ghz band.

I can only DISABLE the signal which only means noone can access it, but the signal keep being send out.
There is not option, that I saw, that lets you off the Wifi all together or at least the 5Ghz radio signal.

Does anyone have any insight if I can do this and if so, how?? I been searching the menu up and down like Holmes and Watson!

This is most likely just a driver problem as most drivers have not been updated to support Windows 8.

Using the compatibility mode by right clicking before you install the driver might help.

If you want full wireless N speed of 300Mb/s then using the 802.11n Only mode in your routers settings with WPA2 security and AES encryption will get you there.

Hello All,

I have a NETIS WF2190 AC1200 Wireless USB adapter plugged into the USB 3.0 PCIe x4 slot on my home computer. When I setup the device I plugged it in then installed the software then plugged in the USB cable. At that point Windows 8.1 played that sound it always plays when it discovers new hardware and also popped up the window indicating that it was installing and with the device details.

After that the Realtek (Netis) wireless lan utility started up in the system tray:

The problem I am having is, every time I (re)start my computer Windows treats the adapter as a new device. I hear the new device sound and see the install detail window over and over again and it's quite annoying.

I did some investigating and it looks like the drivers/software is made by Realtek and there were two services installed as demonstrated by the following Task Manager screenshot.

I also used Autoruns to get information about the software/drivers and here is what it showed:

It's basically the same as Task Manger but more details. Note that Autoruns highlighted the RunSwUSB.exe which I guess means it thinks that entry is suspicious.

My first question is, why do you think Realtek has to install the driver, a service, and their software to make the USB WiFi adapter work? It seems like overkill to me.

To try and get around this I uninstalled the Realtek software using Revo Uninstaller and then tried to setup the adapter using only the driver file(s) (INF). Windows was happy wit... Read more

I am having an intermittent issue with my Asus RT-AC88U router (purchased about 4 months ago). The issue started about a week ago and there have been no changes I have initiated to the router or my Windows 10 Pro PC.

I noticed it first on my phone when at home, it would connect to WiFi (2.4GHz) just fine but said under the connection that internet was not available. 5GHz and wired connections had internet just fine. Resetting (power cycling) the router did not fix it but sometimes it seemed to fix it's self. Last night I had no WiFi on 2.4 but this morning it's fine. My provider is Comcast but if it was Comcast I think the issue would be on 2.4 and 5.

I contacted Asus via their support chat and the tech. had me change some setting and I figured that fixed it till the problem showed up again a day and a half later.

Has anyone had a similar issue and if so found a fix? Is this a router hardware issue and I should contact Asus for a replacement?

Thanks for the help!!

Speed, according to Intel, 2x2 AC 7265 could reach 867 Mbps theoretical limit, while AC 3165 1x1 433 Mbps In practice that is close to "real" 5GHz is AC 7265 http://www.intel.la/content/www/xl/es/wireless-products/wireless-product-selection-guide.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7265.html

I want to change my network card to one which supports new WiFi 5Ghz tehnology. I understand that HP has white cards list which my laptop will support. But I cannot find any information of models.

A:HP ENVY 17 j013sr WiFi 5Ghz card

Hi: None of that information is available to the public (us). Your notebook should not have a BIOS whitelist, and since your model has an Intel processor and chipset, you can put in any dual band card you want. If you want to go with a dual band N card, get the Intel dual band 7260 with bluetooth. If you want to go with a dual band AC card, bet the Intel dual band 7260 with bluetooth. Here is the service manual for your notebook, where you can find the part number for the 7260N card. Chapter 3, page 26. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03922401 The 3160 AC card was also an option for your notebook, but the 7260 AC card will work. If you want to get the 7260 AC card, let me know and I will look up the HP part number for that one.

I was finally able to do a clean install of Windows 10 on my daughter's Z570 laptop. It seems to be working just fine. The laptop has an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 card in it now but it only operates on the 2.4 GHz spectrum.  I need to upgrade the internal network card to a 802.11ac or 802.11n with 5 GHz support card for her school. In the process of looking for this card I've noticed a number of people are having problems with Win10 on this laptop AND no one has mentioned a 5GHz network card that will work in it. Can anyone suggest a 5GHz internal network card that will work in this machine? And will it work in Win10? Or should I move back to Win7? Help! My daughter starts back to school on Aug 8.
