I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like windows 8 does not have the hard drive controller driver built in to the OS. Try going to the HP website to see if there is a hard drive controller driver for windows 8. if so great! if not, you may be SOL.

Hi, there really isnt much in the line of forums offering server support, so i will try here

Firstly, im trying to install windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise. I have found that the issues i am facing are big with windows 7 too.

I have a HP ProLiant ML350 G4 tower, 2GB RAM and upgraded to 4GB when bought. PCI RAID controller and CDROM, FLOPPY drives. I have removed the FLOPPY drive and replace the CDROM drive with a DVD-RW drive.

So, usually i install windows using USB, ive never really faced any real issues doing it this way, however on this paticular maching i am receiving an error when booting which just displays a "J" and goes no further.

I have tried formatting the USB drive in filesystems FAT16LBA FAT16CHS FAT32LBA FAT32CHS all with no luck. Searched around and came to the conclusion this was boot image related....

so, as a result i turned to the DVD drive, copied the installation media to a DVD-RW and also tried a DVD-R (at 4x write speed). However i am now facing another rather annoying problem

Im getting stuck on "Expanding windows files 0%). Sometimes it moves to 1 and 2 but it takes AGES. I have tired removing RAM, tried different DIMM configuration, removed all hardware such as NICs, FLOPPY and even PCI RAID controller to no avail. I have tried resetting the CMOS, disabled hyper-threading in the BIOS etc with no luck.

Now, i dont even get that far, i now get stuck at the initial startup screen when windows is loading the setup "copying fil... Read more

Hello,

I received an HP Proliant ML350 G4 server for experimental purposes. This is only the second time I have worked with a server that uses SCSI drives as its primary means of storage, so I really don't know too much about how SCSI drives work. When I ran the install disc for XenServer, it detected the two 34 GB SCSI drives I have in the server. Once installation completes, I reboot the computer and this is where the problem begins. The server runs through it's preliminary diagnostics and shows this:

http://img693.imageshack.us/i/img0441pr.jpg/

From what I have gathered, this is the SCSI controller. From what I've gathered from the particular model (LSI Logic 1030), I should be able to press ctrl + c (and see the prompt on the screen) to configure the array, but all I see is "Press F8" which has nothing related to configuring an array. A few seconds pass and then the screen fills with this:

http://img717.imageshack.us/i/img0443b.jpg/

So I take it this means the controller is detecting the SCSI drives attached to it? The boot process continues and then goes to boot from CD-ROM, floppy, hard drive, and then PXE boot. In the boot order in the BIOS, hard drive is listed as the third boot device. It says to see the boot controller order next to hard drive. There it shows "primary IDE controller" for hard drive C.

Other than the "primary IDE controller", these are the only other two a... Read more

HP Pavilion 6355 has the following issues:

1) Computer will not shut down by holding in power button. It must be "unplugged from outlet."

2) When power cord plugged in the light sequence on the tower reads, from left to right, yellow, green.

3) A Thumping sound comes from speakers, not the typical Bios Beeps.

4) Monitor is blank, yellow light indicator on.

5) Cannot open CD Drive, even manually.

This computer belongs to a friend of mine whose daughter uses it for High School work. She was working on it one day, received an error message, no, no, writing it down would be to easy , so she shut down using start-shutdown, and left for school. When she came back and resumed her work she was met with the above scenario.

Any ideas as to the most expeditious way to get to root of issue.

Try this first -

If that does not work then do a repair XP install (not the HP restore)

Hi Folks,
I'm not super techy, but I have read a ton of webpages on how to (possibly) fix my desktop computer.

It no longers boots up, no beeps, no blinking LEDs, no sign of life!

Here's the details,
HP Pavilion p6218f from 2009 ( win 7 )
prod #: AU993AA-ABL

Recently, the computer was having trouble after using sleep mode. It would sleep, then turn off completely, but the power switch would not turn the computer on, I would have to unplug, re-plug to start it up again.

Three days ago, the above happened, but unplug-replug would not help. Now the computer will not turn on. No beeps, no fans, no lights.

When plugged in, there is a green light on the power supply ( kind of flickers when first plugged in ) and there is a green led lit up on the motherboard.
All peripherals are disconnected, including mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Here is what I have tried:
1. Replaced CMOS battery.
2. Looked into CMOS reset - unplugged, removed cmos battery, held down power button for 15 seconds.
3. Exchanged power cord for another one.
4. Shorted green wire and black wire on 24 pin connector, plugged in - power supply fan runs,
5. Checked 24 pin connector ( with green and black shorted ), got 3.3, 5, and 12 volts.
6. Checked yellow wire, and red wire on a 4 pin connector. got 12v and 5 v

Does all this seem like the like power supply is okay?? Should I look up which pins should have which voltages?

1. Check if the USB device is really bootable, you can do that by checking the files on the root location or by trying to boot another computer using it.2. Start the computer and press 'esc' key to get into bios, then choose Boot Options or Boot Menu, then choose the USB device (Few BIOS have an option to enable/disable Legacy boot options, hence you have to enable it before you could change the boot sequence. Please note that the USB device needs to be on top of boot device list.

Is there a way to check for errors on the motherboard or RAM from the recovery console?

How to perform a Repair Installation of Windows? XP.

Two things are needed here, just a bit of old technology, an ink pen and a piece of paper to write down any special settings that might have to be changed back after the repair-installation is completed.

Please Note: Performing a "Repair Installation" in this manner should not delete any Personal Files, it should 'repair' the core of the installation but to be safe with your data you should follow the next two paragraphs.

You might have to remove the hard drive from this computer and install it in another computer as a slave drive and after it is able to be accessed by Windows on that computer you will have to manually backup all of your important data that you have to another media like CD-R's, DVD or external hard drive. Then when this is done return it to the original computer as a master drive on the primary IDE cable. and do the following:

Hi Ossita
If the boot order is set to optical drive first, the laptop looks at its internal optical drive. Since it seems like the internal optical drive is not usable(?) then you need to set the boot order to USB or external device ahead of the hard drive.

I have a Pavilion DV 6700 that I am attempting to repair. The issue is when its powered on it goes straigh to "Press F1 to rsume, F10 to Setup. F1 does nothing, F10 doenst do much either. When I enter the BIOS to perform a HDD self check, it says the self test is disabled. When you first power the laptop on, the HDD light does come on for short time. I have tried resetting the BIOS, booting with a Vista disk (I believe this is the OS installed, however not 100% sure). When I boot with a Vista disk, recovery find no HDD. I tried with an XP disk, and got the same result. This is a SATA drive, however the connecters seem to be more vertical and not horizontal, meaning I cant plug the drive into one of my drive caddies to test the drive that way, or even to recover some data, if the drive is truly bad (or just the master boot sector).

I have read that the BIOS on this particular machine may not provide the self test and that the BIOS would need to be flashed, however I am not sure how to do this with the Windows EXE that HP provided, if I cant get it to boot

Has anyone seen anything like this before...? I have some a lot of HDD issues, but not one like this, at least not with this kind of SATA connection that isnt your "general" SATA connection.

Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all!

Mr Bruce 1959 has suggested I re-post my problem here so here goes:
A few weeks ago I started to download DVDShrink from what looked like a perfectly legitimate company site. After I clicked to download the program it began instead to install itself. At the same time all kinds of alarms went off - Comodo, Malwarebytes, etc. - and I quickly shut down.
After booting up I ran a quick Mbam scan and it found 32 infected files which I deleted. I then ran a full Mbam scan and it found a bunch more. Later I also ran full Mbam and Avast scans but this time around neither came up with anything.
For a few days everything ran OK but then Firefox began to freeze up whenever I brought up a web page with a Youtube video on it. Then other things started to freeze - Task Manager, etc. - and now it's reached the stage that the computer won't boot. The computer won't even start in Safe Mode. At best it just brings up my mouse pointer (which works) and the Windows Welcome screen but nothing more.
Different Windows messages have appeared at times one of which said something to the effect that Windows was stopping to prevent further damage. There is a separate RECOVERY partition on the D drive for restoring the computer to factory settings but I can't access it.

I am able to enter the BIOS setup screen during bootup by pressing F1. I've tried replacing the hard-drive but this did not solve the problem. I also tried using recovery disks, the Windows 98 OS setup disk, and a Norton Utilities' Recovery disk, all of which have not had any effect. I was wondering if there is anything else (motherboard jumpers, etc.) that somebody thinks might work.

Thanks!

I have recently tried to start up my Pavilion g6, only to find that it won't turn on. I haven't touched it in years, so I'm not sure if something may have happened to it. My sister tried to turn it on first, only to be met with a message stating something along the lines of "software error" and it no longer functions. I've tried to hard reset it multiple times, with no results. When I plug the charger in, the LED by it turns white, then I press the power button and that LED turns on, but the one by the charger turns orange, and the screen never turns on. I would really appreciate any help, as I would like to resolve this problem by myself and save some money by not having to bring it anywhere. Thanks in advance for any advice.

My problem concerns:-
HP Pavillion X2 detachable PC10
System ID 815D
Product ID 1234567#ABA
Product number MS69EA#ABU
Serial (removed content)
I downloaded Advanced SystemCare 9 PRO from IObit after it loaded and called for a restart, my conpouter has never worked again.  It came up with error code 0xc0000001 operating system has failed to start.
I bought the HP recovery media P/N828684-031  09/21/16 Release 1
I followed the instructions but it comes up with a box titled "Recovery Manager" a yellow triange and message OXFFEEO18, when I pressed OK it goes to a white line on the side of a black screen or some times it goes to recovering drive C, it gets to 100% then goes back to the original error code.
I have run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI and it tests as OK.
Any help would be appreciated

My problem started when someone used my wireless mouse on their laptop and when I went to use my computer my mouse would not work so I rebooted my computer and it came up with a quick message that there was a keyboard error then went blank. I tried again after unplugging pc and trying again and it said Preparing Automatic Repair, then got message Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. At the bottom of that message it says if contacting support mention Stop Code: FAT_File_System, then it restarts and the same thing happens but this time at the bottom it says when calling support mention Stop Code: NTSF_File System., then it goes blank.
