G700 - Energy Management says battery is not genuine and won't charge it!

Q: G700 - Energy Management says battery is not genuine and won't charge it!

Hello Apologies if someone has already posted this query and got a response. My G700 has Lenovo's Energy Management software (8.0.2.4) installed. Until recently, the battery would charge (and drain) as expected - it is the original that came with the laptop a few weeks ago. I'm running Windows 8 and haven't upgraded to 8.1 yet. However, now I get a pop-up box from the software every time I boot up from saying that "the system does not support batteries that are not genuine Lenovo-made or authorized.....". Also, the software is preventing the battery from being charged, so I'm having to use the mains power. Lenovo's support has suggested that it might be a (physical) problem with the battery, but it seems to be a software-related. Please can someone help with this one? Is there an update to the software that I can install? Can it be disabled to allow the battery to be charged? Does the problem go away with an upgrade to Windows 8.1? Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: G700 - Energy Management says battery is not genuine and won't charge it!

Hi Ammo23,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

This error may be a Software/Firmware Related or the battery is really bad and being read as not genuine.
can you try Doing this,

1. Try Performing a power Drain and BIOs Reset.

Remove the AC adapter and the battery, Now Hold Down the power Button for at least 10 sec. This will drain the Mainboard.
Reconnect the Ac and Battery and Turn on the system,Right away start tapping F2 to boot into BIOS Setting.
Hit F9 to Load defaults and enter for Yes then hit F10 To save and Exit then Enter for Yes.

2. When Booted Back up to Windows,
Open Device Manager and under Battery Look for Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control method Battery
Right Click On it and uninstall it, Restart after uninstallation.

Check if the issue will be the same after the Steps.
If still the same, Uninstall the Lenovo Energy Management from Control Panel / Programs and restart the system.
check if the system will charge without the Energy Management Software,

If the same thing happened I would Suggest you call Lenovo Support right away and report the steps your did and still getting the same result.

Let me know your Findings
Cheers!

Hello folks, My y510p is painfully slow after bootup, highly annoying.  I have tried researching it and see several references to lenovo power management possibly being the issue.  When I look in startup via task manager, I see both lenovo battery management and lenovo energy management.  What is the difference?  Should I have them both?  Can I uninstall one or both, and if so, how?  I do not see them in control panel or elsewhere. ThanksChad

The charger supplied with my Lenovo G700 recently stopped working completely (it was making a weird bleeping sound when plugged in as well), so I purchased another genuine Lenovo charger identical to the first. However, my laptop doesn't recognise that this is an authentic Lenovo product and keeps telling me that I'm using an 'unauthorised battery', so my laptop can only be plugged in, and not charging. So far I've been unable to find a suitable fix on google. I'm reluctant to buy another charger as they are so expensive, in case I encounter the same problem again.  Any suggesions/experiences would be very helpful! Thank you

I read a little of the help file in Energy Management, --------->"If for any reason you need to uninstall your Energy Management software, you can do this from the Windows Control Panel"  but it didn't really say what would change if anything. From what I did read I'm thinking that Windows 7's software pretty much does the same thing and I don't ever use it anyway. Your thought? Thanks in advance

Hello users,  can anyone point me where to find the energy management module, which I've read is usually found in the Lenovo companion..but its not there.  There used to be an optimized/performance mode for batteries. The thought is I want to limit the max charge % of battery, so that when left on extended plugged-in periods, the battery is kept in a storage type state.  Or, does this new laptop handle being plugged in more regularly with the newer battery technology? Issue I have is most if the software I run are fairly resource heavy on the laptop and I'm burning through battery quickly when unplugged.. Thanks!

I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 8.1 recently and now iam stuck with my battery at 60% conservation mode. On this web site there are numerous versions of the old Lenovo "Energy Manager" application.  I tried three different ones on Windows 10 on my 700-15ISK, and they all worked.  Curiously, they all had slightly different combinations of features, but they all supported "Conservation Mode". If you still have the installation EXE for the "Energy Manager" version that you were using, try installing it on Windows 10 and see if it still works.  If you no longer have that EXE, this is the version that I tried on Windows 10, and which I use on Windows 7: http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/DS100173 Alternatively, you might find that the current Lenovo "Vantage" application works on your system.  You can download it from the Microsoft Store free of charge.  I have not tried it myself. -- from CyberSimian in the UK

I have the a Lenovo Y 40-70. I've upgraded to Windows 10 and I need the "Lenovo Energy Management" program in order to fix the battery gauge, which is giving me inaccurate readings (battery dies when it's showing between 30-40%) On the Y 40-70's support page, the Energy Management driver for Windows 10 is some sort of corrupt file, only 1mb and it wont open. Any idea what's going on? The link to the faulty download file is here: http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-y-series-laptops/y40-70-noteboo... I know my battery gauge problem has to do with a driver in the device manager called "Lenovo ACPI-Compliant Virtual Power Controller." Sadly I haven't found a way to disable this thing in Windows 10. If Lenovo has an incompatible driver on their systems, the least they can do is provide software for Windows 10 that will remedy the situation. They've got me running in circles.

A:No "Lenovo Energy Management" for Windows 10?

I have a Lenovo Y40-70. Same as obesechipmunk, I've upgrades to windows 10, and the battery gauge is also giving me inaccurate reading of the battery. My battery is stuck at 8% when plugged in, and it estimates 10 hrs to fully charged. The laptop doens't seem to configure with the battery. I tried uninstalling Lenovo ACPI-Compliant Virtual Power Controller and reinstalling, but it doesn't work. I updated my energy mangament using the following link: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-y-series-laptops/y40-70-noteboo...However, it doesn't seem to fix the problem. This is very upsetting. My warranty just expired for 1 month.  afuY40

Hello, I'm not sure if anyone else experienced this before. When you set Energy Management software to "Super Energy Saver" mode, it turns off a couple of functions like sound card, bluetooth, ethernet etc. and Wireless Network Card is one of them. The problem is when you turn it back to "Balanced" or to some other option, the particular card remains closed. You can choose not to close it from the advanced options menu, however you can only access advanced options menu when you're using "Super Energy Saver" mode (the button dissapears in other modes). So, it is a vicious circle. I've tried activating wireless manually, but it looks like it is already open (device manager etc.) everywhere. At the very end I've tried uninstalling the program, which didn't work either; the card remained closed, and I was left without internet until I've noticed that I had the setup file of it. At the moment, I have to use "Super Energy Saver" mode, and set it to not to close Wireless Network Card. Where do you think the program disables Wireless? How can I reopen it? Thank you.

A:G550 Energy Management Problem

first of all, you need power management. it also includes system files that you can use turn on/off some functions such as wireless.after re-installing, press fn + f5 and/or switch on/of the wireless.

My Lenovo Y410P (64-bit edition) came shipped with Windows 8.1.  I upgraded to Windows 10 last year.  Recently, my computer began freezing, and often times would not boot up.  I was forced to re-install Windows.  All is fine now except that the Lenovo Management software is nowhere to be found.  Yes, it is available from the Lenovo website but there is no listing nor reference to that software that is compatible with the Lenovo Y410P running Windows 10 (upgrade) 64-bit.  As a result, my batter is stuck at the 60% charge with no way to change that. Can anyone tell me, definitively, if that software is still available for the Lenovo Y410P running Windows 10 Home 64-bit?  If so, where can I find it?

I hope you understand that worktime on battery depends on many conditions - mostly on intense of LCD backlight and CPU/VFA/HDD work.Anyway, you may try to simply uninstall it if you believe this will help to gain more battery life (which I doubt).

Hello everyone, I've been struggling with wifi issues for over 2 weeks now. I have windows 8.1 (upgraded years ago from 8 to 8.1).The wifi would stay connected but the internet connection would drop about every 15 - 20 minutes. Sometimes, often after a reboot, the internet would hold up for about 2-2.5 hours but after that it would drop again every 15-20 minutes. The strange thing is that the icon would still show it's connected and hovering over it says there should be an internet connection. All I have to do is turn off and on the internet using the slider or enable/disable airplane mode and it would work again almost immediately. I also can use windows trouble shooter to fix it. Though it doesn't find a solution, it makes it work again long before it's gotten to the conclusion part. The conclusions I first got was "DNS problem" but now they changed to "router problem". That can't be it though since my parents use windows 7 and have no problem and I contacted the provider and they updated the router and nothing changed.  I've tried almost every online solution I could find, from using Google dns to flushing ip/dns settings and other cmd stuff, deleting temp files, disabling IPv6, using set IP/DNS adresses, updating or throwbacking drivers manually and through Intel update systems itself, forgetting the network and reconnecting, pinging different websites, use a different browser, disabling bluetooth, disabling other network adapters (even the hidden ones) and ... Did you try when first start it up, and first see the display start up... during that bios screen advertisement or very quickly once it goes off... push and hold the power button in for 5 seconds and it should turn off.Next start hopefully its ok, if not remove the battery and a/c power and push that start button a few times to drain any capacitors of holding charges... put it back together and cross fingers.

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

To begin fan cleaning I have to tap the touchpanel 4 times, to lit it up again. I cannot pick up any fan mode (of normal, quiet and "effective"). It seems like it's always on quite mode. The lcd brightness menu is also broken. Indeed it changes brightness, but the on-screen-"meter" jumps by 5 "points".Also I cannot turn off the touchpad. Even though icon shows it's disabled, it still reacts (it's very annoying). It's bit odd - on HDD I have old copy of same Win7 x64 Home Premium, but with some old drivers, and everything works fine (but slow haha). A:Z580 - Energy Management software/menus

Hi Michalus ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

With an SSD fresh install Windows , try getting the old drivers and softwares from the HDD and use it on the SSD image instead. Onserve how it goes after each driver installation starting with chipsets then video then network. Check the performance after those drivers before installing other drivers and application and see when any issue would show up.

Update us how it goes.

I'm doing the same things but now I can hear fans running on ~20% speed (I'm not doing anything else exept using Google Chrome or AIMP for music). Why I can't install Energy Management and why fans are now running even if I'm not doing anything? I have all driver and bios up to date. Temps are OK.
