I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp73001-73500/sp73189.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp72501-73000/sp72862.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

My mute button works fine, but the light indicating mute on/off stopped working.  I had updated to latest "creator" version of Windows 10 (from Windows 10) which screwed up my printer drivers.  Reverted back to the latest version of 10 that I was on (before Creator's version):  everything seems to work but the light on mute key.   I have no idea if the light stopped working due to a hardware error (coincidentally at the time I upgraded and then downgraded windows 10) or whether in the software upgrade and downgrade to current OS, a software problem has caused the mute key light to stop working.  I'm currently running Windows 10, Home, version 1607

Hi, recently I bought a new keyboard with multimedia keys
Model : Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000
All the keys are working fine, I also installed the latest drivers and Intellitype Pro to the correct OS i'm using.
However, when I press the mute/unmute button, the volume bar shows up, but does not actually mute. It seems like it flashed the mute symbol for half a second but it still just stay unmute. I tried using the default Microsoft sound driver and the latest Realtek sound driver but still no luck.
I also tried turning HID services on and off but still the same
BUT, I remember the mute button WORKING until a few days ago.

I don't know if it is due to the Windows Update, or something to do with my motherboard driver or something else. The roll back driver option is greyed out in Device Manager so I don't assume that is the problem..

I'm currently using:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000
YAMAHA speakers YST-M15 (really old model)
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5859
ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard

I'm really confused because if all the multimedia keys are working then it should not be a driver problem. If the volume up/down is working then it should not be speaker problem. It is ONLY the mute button that is not working.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Do you have the correct sound driver, from Lenovo? Your System Specs only list "High Definition Audio Device" which suggests the generic, basic function, drivers that are installed by Windows. If this is the case, download and install the correct sound driver from Lenovo.

You did not list the Lenovo Model Number so I can't link you directly to the proper Lenovo driver.

Hi guys. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit. Running great for about a year now. But I recently noticed this. Pressing the mute key on the keyboard, or muting the system volume (from the volume icon in the system tray) has no effect at all. Whatever sound is being played (e.g. from WMP, Spotify, or even YouTube, no matter what sound it is), it just keeps on playing. It's really strange. Rather bizarre.

Additional Information: I'm using 3RVX, but its the same story without 3RVX as well. Any ideas on what's going on?!
A bit MORE additional information: The desktop background (wallpaper) slideshow is also not working on its own. The wallpaper is set to change after 30 minutes, but it isn't doing so. Somehow both these problems might be related.

I tried resetting my Windows 7 theme, didn't help at all. I'm using standard speakers with a 3.5mm jack.

Thanks in advance !

Turns out, the speaker jack was loose. The wallpaper changing problem fixed itself. Thanks anyway

Hello all,

First time posting here as I have scoured the Internet and have not found a solution to my problem. I am hoping someone on here can help me out.

Just recently, when I go to mute the sound in Windows, it does nothing and sounds continues to still be played. The icon in my taskbar displays the red circle with the slash through it indicating that it has been "muted" when in fact it has not.

I am still able to adjust the volume with the slider and that works fine, just not mute.

Anybody have a clue as to what is going on here?

Thanks in advance for you help! This is driving my crazy!

First suggestion, reinstall the sound drivers. Use the drivers from your PC vendor or motherboard vendor (You didn't fill out the My System Specs so we can only guess).

One of the few annoyances I have with my T440p (we won't mention the button-less track pad) is the lack of HD activity, Cap Lock , charging and Num Lock indicators. Yes there are on-screen indicators, but I still mis telltales that remain on. Today, out of the blue, the yellow LED that indicates 'mute" is not illuminating. The OSD works, as does the function, but the LED is out. I'm not about to buy a new keyboard to remedy this, so I'm just voicing my displeasure and wondering if it's just the first in a chain of keyboard failures. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this failure.

The internal microphone on my Elitebook x360 doesn't work, it won't record.  I?ve had it a couple of months but only got the chance to start using it in the last two weeks.  It seems that there have been others with similar issues, so instead of start with the basics, here's what I?ve tried so far. In the 'Sound > Recording' tab (right click speaker in task bar) the internal microphone (Conextant ISST) is enabled and default (always was).  The green bars do not light up if talking into the microphone, but one or two bars will appear when I tap on the display. Internal microphone properties > Levels: microphone array 100%, microphone boost +36dB (max). I have tried other levels also.  The microphone does not mute by itself, as I read that others have experienced. Internal microphone properties > Advanced: have tried using lower default formats, exclusive mode: on and off, signal enhancements: on and off. In device manager, audio inputs and outputs: I have updated and then uninstalled and reinstalled the Internal microphone (Conextant ISST Audio) driver. In device manager, sound, video and game controllers: I have uninstalled, downloaded and installed new drivers for Conextant ISST Audio and Intel(R) Display Audio. The mic mute button on the keyboard (F8) is not on. In command prompt, as administrator, I have killed the svchost task in the name of the computer and then run Malwarebytes - did not fix anyth... Does anyone know what caused this or how to fix it? My sound does still work. Thanks.
