Yoga 20CD (S02B00) won't start or charge

Q: Yoga 20CD (S02B00) won't start or charge

My wife's Yoga just today stopped charging or turning on. It was working seemingly fine before and would last several hours on battery (so don't think the battery was at the end of it's natural life). The little blinky light on the over no longer blinks when plugged in. There's 0 sign of life. Here's what I've tried: 1) Hold power button for 20 seconds (both with and without power plugged in while holding before plugging back in after)2) Push the reset button with a pin for 10 seconds (again, with and without power plugged in)3) Used voltage meter to validate 20V from power supply. Also tried a second power supply.4) Removed cover and used voltage meter to validate 20V at board soldier points for the power jack (so power reaching board)5) Checked all chips, hard drives, connectors that were readily visible to make sure they were tight. Nothing when plugging back in. Questions:1) Anyone know of any common remedies or things I can look for?2) Any general guidance on getting something like this fixed? (ie, send to Lenovo, find a big name store like Best Buy, other?) Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Think my table restarted on it's own earlier. Startup screen popped up randomly, signed it then didn't use it for a couple of hours. Now it will not turn on. Tried plugging it in to charge, will not charge at all. Tried holding down power button plugged in and not. Absolutely will not do anything. Don't understand what could be wrong, it's brand new, only had it a couple of weeks. Has been working okay I think, battery life seems short at times. Also yesterday it got very hot while being used. (update) Might be charging, indicator light is on but still wont go on.

I'm facing the same issue. Suddenly it won't power on. Only LED indicator blinks when plugging in the power supply; and the LED turns on for a few seconds without plugging in the power supply. Beside that nothing happens. Any clue how to solve this? I've checked the connectors but they look ok. I've also tried resetting via "reset button" on the backside. further I've tried several sequences pushing the power button and holding it for 30 - 60 seconds. So far nothing helped. Any clue? Thanks.

I have an old Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga type 20CD. Recently I lost the system after a Windows 10 update. It took me a month to get the Lenovo recovery CD because the BIOS of this machine is locked.I found myself under Windows 8.1.The PC ran for 2 days but failed as the SSD was in poor condition. So I bought a SSD in the trade identical to that of the machine with a similar reference Lenovo. After formatting, the repair CDs refuse to install the system.I think they are good but they are intended for recovery only and do not recreate the proper disk structure.Who would have the solution to recreate this structure? I almost succeeded (UFI partition in fat 32, partition MSR, partition of data in NTFS but I can not create the locked system partition (1000 Mb) I could have done it using the commands in CMD but they no longer work under Windows 10 (for example SET DISK or other instructions that worked previously are no longer recognized. How to do it?Help!

Long story short, i erased everything and performed a clean install of Windows 10 64bit and the computer stopped shutting down or go into sleep mode. I had Windows 8.1 64bit, i upgraded it to Windows 10 about a year ago, when it first came out. The upgrade went almost fine, some bit issue with the OS but nothing serious, so i went on till i decided, to correct those little issues, to perform a clean install.  So i downloaded the media creation tool, the version with the anniversary update, and erased everything, but keeping the recovery partition. After the install, i started having troubles with entering sleeping mode or shutting down the laptop.I installed the power management driver i found on the site (n1cku04w). With that I can shut down even if it strangely blinks a few times before shutting down. I can enter sleep mode and wake it up properly if I do it from the start menu, but if i close the laptop or try using the power button takes me to a state where OS is sleeping and HW is still awake, so i can't do anything apart from force it off. Strangely too, the driver on the site is overriden from another version i recieve from System Update app. But, with the version from System Update app, i can't even shut it down properly, the OS dies but the HW is still awake and fully functioning leading me to kill it pressing the Power Button. Anybody have faced the same issue? If somebody with the same laptop still has Windows 8.1 can he tell me, someh... Read more

Hello to everyone,I'll need your help. I installed a new, fresh Win 8.1 operating system on my Yoga S1. I also mount a new Intel SSD in the place of the old HDD. So it's way faster now I need to have a HDD password, also a start-up password. So, i set the same password (I'm sure, double-triple check it) for supervisor, power-on and HDD password. I enabled the password on restart option. So here is the problem - when i power on the Yoga, it asks for the power-on pass. I enter it and it is corect. Then, it shows that it enters the HDD1 pass automatically and it is succesfull. The system boots and it's fine. But when i press Restart from Windows, it powers off, ask for power-on pass - correct, then it asks for HDD1 pass. It's the same and should be automatically filled, like in cold start. Ok, it enter it manually, but it is incorrect. I also tried with blank pass, but without succes. So, after three incorect passwods, it freezes. Then, I power off completelly, start again, enter the power-on pass and it's fine, it boots the OS. So, it's not working on restart, but cold starts are OK. As I said, I checked many thimes that the passwords are the same. Please advice guys. Thanks to everyone

A:Yoga S1 (20CD) Strange HDD password behaviour

Do you still have the 2.5: drive also?  I have seen this behavior once before in a machine with a 2.5" drive and an M.2 SSD.  It turned out that the problem was related to the 2.5" drive, even though the bad pw showed up on the M.2 drive at restart.  My 2.5" drive was originally from an HP and there was something screwed up in the HP firmware that interfered with the M.2 drive.  It took me a long time to figure out what was wrong.  It also might have the same symptoms with an HP SSD

After running updates the computer will no longer POST.Turning on power only boot cycles (turns on for 3 seconds, turns off, turns on etc.), screen is black, no POST.Possibly a BIOS update fail? Need to spend a grand to get a new MB?? Tried removing the battery, drain power, use only power cord. No luck.

A:After update ThinkPad Yoga, 20CD cannot POST!

I wish they would stop pushing BIOS updates other than at the request and guidance of support, they seem to fail too often and brick far too many systems.       You can usually perform a Boot Block Recovery on modern motherboards, but I do not think Lenovo has implemented that technology on their laptops for security reasons, but you might still check with Lenovo Support to see if they have any options short of replacing the system board.  BTW:   Does your system have the emergency reset hole on the back side of the case, and if so have you tried unplugging it from the power supply, and then pressing it for about 10 seconds or so?  (see item #1 on page 46 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual) Hardware Maintenance Manualhttps://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/s1_yoga_hmm_en_sp40a26742_01.pdf

Hello, just recently I'm a very happy owner of the yoga.I'm fine tuning the setup and tweaking all kind of things. With a different Lenovo I used in the past, I could use the power manager or the registry to specify a charge starting and ending point in percentages when hooking up the laptop to the main power. This was totally awesome to keep the battery healthy and keeping the Lenovo alive to the fullest. With the 720, I don't see the battery option anywhere. Things I tried are: -Registry edit-Installing system interface foundation-Installing power management from windows 7 or 8.1-Installing/reinstalling lenovo settings from windows store-Battery gauge tool install-Bios updates Unfortunately, they didn't work So my question is, has anyone set up the battery treshold on the Yoga 720. And how did you do it?Thanks for your answers!

Hello all. My laptop used work perfectly until the day I decided to remove all the extra stuff by doing a clean install of Windows 10.  I predownloaded all the drivers I would need and then did the clean installation.  Now I have an issue with my wifi.  It randomly drops connection to wifi and is slow to start working again.  After coming out of sleep it does not automatically reconnect to the ap and I have to trigger it manually.  Separately (i think) when coming out of sleep, the login screen does not respond to the keyboard and I am forced to use the mousepad to click or a touchscreen swipe to get to the password field. What I'm seeking is an official list of drivers that are required for a clean windows 10 install on a thinkpad yoga series 20CD.  If order of installation is critical, please give this also.  I believe I downloaded everything available from the support page but just want to be sure.  Sometimes not all drivers are available when filtering by OS "Windows 10".   Thanks in advance. Laptop specs are:512gb ssdmemory card slot2.4/5 n/ac wireless 7260ac w/bluetooth

Hi there, hopefully someone can help me. Back when my laptop was still under warranty, I complained to Lenovo about the many scratches I was getting on my screen from using their pen. I don't press hard when I draw, and I even bought replacement nibs just in case there was something sharp on the one I was using. Alas, nothing helped. This didn't happen on the last tablet Thinkpad (X61) I had! At the time, I couldn't afford to send my laptop in to get it repaired. I was in the middle of a VERY busy college year. But now, the scratches are so numerous, it's really affecting my ability to work on it. Is there a way to just... replace the matte finish? Looks like it's like a screen protector to me. Is that something I can purchase on my own, or would I nee to take my laptop to a repair place to get it put on correctly? I tried to see if I could take the thing off myself, but I can't even get my fingernail under a corner. I HOPE it's a screen protector of sorts, because there's no way I can afford replacing the entire screen.

One of my end users has a ThinkPad Yoga 20CD-00BYUS. He's one of the few users in my organization with a Lenovo device. His hard drive failed. I've purchased a replacement, but don't have any setup/recovery media. Is there a way to obtain this? I can't seem to find a way to do so on the Lenovo site, at least not for a device out of warranty.

A:Yoga 20CD hard drive failure - recovery media

If the machine has been upgraded to windows 10, you can download (free) from Microsoft.  To obtain the media to recover your machine to its original configuration, you can call 1-800-426-7378 and tell them you need to purchase a recovery set for a machine out of warranty.

I will add that Microsoft does not make it easy to apply security and driver updates to a newly-recovered windows 7 system.  If you had win 7 and you ever want to upgrade, now is the time.

Yas, there's another thread on this, but the answer there (the charger was kaput) is not the answer for mine - unless the charger died and the brand new one was DOA - the new one I bought a few weeks ago when the original was mislaid for a couple of days, but never opened the box when the original turned up. Both chargers actually run the computer, it's just not charging. There's also a sideways reference to this, on https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Yoga-Wacom-driver-7-3-4-25-seems-to-be-bro... I had the exact same thing as that one happen (touchscreen quit touching), on the same day. Having had similar things happen before, one of my first guesses was that Windoze had updated something that broke the touchscreen software. Looking at the activity, I saw that indeed, it had installed a "new" version (xxx.25), for which Wacom's current version was xxx.28 - why on earth Windoze would actually downdate a driver automagically is beyond me. The solution, as found in the link, was to uninstall the downdate and install the current one. Unfortunately, I now have a problem that is worse (not touchscreening was mainly an annoyance, but not charging the battery or running off of charger power will be fatal if not fixed in time) and has been harder to track down so far. This morning (4/27/2017), out of the clear blue, when I plugged in the charger, the screen started blinking dimmer and brighter. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 that won't charge.  Sometimes when I plug it in there is no reaction from the computer aside from the "i" indicator continuouly flashing in sequences of 3s. Other times when I plug it in it says "plugged in, not chrging" and the "i" indicator flashes 3 times, then 6 times. If I remove the battery, I can run the laptop off of AC perfectly fine but the CPU is limited to 0.78 GHZ and the laptop feels very slow because of it. I have two batteries and I have tried this with both of them but its the same result for both. So it's not a problem with the battery. I have also tried the AC adapter on another laptop and it charges fine so its not a problem ith the charger. There was a big windows update a day or two before the issue started so I'm wondering if its just a software problem. My warranty is expired so I'm really hoping this is an issue that I can fix on my own without having to send it in to Lenovo and be billed for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did some research and found a few others had the same problem with different models, and the solution was a BIOS update. Well, I update BIOS with the 730-15IKB update. After the update my entire screen shrank to like 25% of the original size. Was this the wrong BIOS update?? I'm not sure if it solved the charging problem either, since only time can tell that. Thank you in advance for any help that is offered.

So I've only had my yoga 920 for 1 or 2 months now. But one day, the charger stopped working. It was plugged in but not charging the laptop at all. The battery icon showed it was on battery power, like the laptop didn't even realize it was plugged in. I tried both USB-C ports also, but neither helped my laptop charge. SoI'm not talking about the "plugged in, not charging" text I've seen show up in some laptops before. Right now, the laptop just doesn't realize it's plugged in at all.Even the  charging LED was not on, despite being plugged in. Lenovo sent me a new charging adaptor, so we'll see if that works. In the last 3 days, I've just been using a USB-C phone charger to charge the laptop, which worked with both USB-C ports. Obviously the speed was slow, so if I did intensive tasks, the laptop drained faster than it charged, but it was charging. However, today, the laptop refused to charge with both ports with this phone charger. Again, the laptop did not recognize it was plugged in and the charging LED was not on, despite being plugged in. I thought the laptop itself must be frying all chargers, but I tried the charger with a phone, and the phone started charging. So it seems the charger is fine, but the laptop won't charge! Any solutions or idea what caused two chargers to suddenly stop working? The Lenovo laptop charger itself is dead, but the phone charger works (just no longer to charge the laptop). Is some internal har... Read more

It looks like we can add the Yoga 15 to the list of badly designed Lenovo models with battery issues.  I just got my Yoga 15 on Monday, and by Thursday the battery was continually saying "plugged in not charging."  It's still running on AC power, but the battery is gradually diminishing.  I'm using Windows 10 64 and haven't installed any other power or fan management software. I haven't seen any other mentions of Yoga 15's with this problem, so if anyone has a solution for this model, I'd be grateful.  There is no OneKey software on this machine, so the solutions offered for the Yoga 3 don't apply here. If you're thinking of buying a Yoga 15, caveat emptor.

A:Yoga 15 battery will not charge

And now more fun: when I called tech support, they told me I don't have a warranty, not even the standard warranty that all Lenovo PCs ship with (I bought direct from Lenovo). Like I said, if you're thinking about buying a Yoga 15, there might be better options out there.  Better companies ,too.

Is there any reason my Yoga won't charge the battery over 59%? It says plugged in but not charging? I tried charging it with the laptop off but that didn't seem to help. Please help!!!

Solved!

A:Yoga won't charge battery over 59%

It's the Lenovo Energy Management settings.Go to Control Panel >> Power Options >> Change plan settings >> Change advanced power settings >> Lenovo Energy Management >> Enable Lenovo Energy Management.Change the battery setting from "Optimized Battery Health" to "Maximum Battery Life." By only partially charging the battery, the software is prolonging the lifespan of the battery itself.  This is true of all laptop batteries.  If you often leave your computer plugged in, it's best to keep this setting enabled.  If you can anticipate your mobile useage in advance, you can just turn off the feature at appropriate times. It would be nice if the setting was easier to change.  If somebody knows an easier way, feel free to post it.I suppose you could always put a shortcut to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\Energy Management\Energy Management.exe" on your start screen, taskbar or desktop.  Alternatively, you could put a shortcut on the desktop, assign a hotkey to it, and super-hide the shortcut (a little more advanced).

Hello, Does anybody tried to charge the Device by USB-PD? Technically it should be possible with a >90W Charger, but I read different Statements. Some say, it's only charging, if the device is off. But that's not the target, it should be possible to work & charge with it.Others say, that only the 13" Yoga can be charged, the 15" (4k Display btw.) seems to need too much energy and doesn't push it to the battery But 90W, as the original dedicated non-usb-Power-Charger, is 90W, so there seems to be negotiating-issues. But as I said: Too many different statements. My Dream-Configuration would look something like this:- 1 USB-C-Charger like Dell TDK33 (4,[email protected])- 1 USB-C-Hub (primarly for LAN & Display), e.g. Andobil 9-in-1. It's too expensive to buy & try. Especially if there are Negotiating-Issues, you have to try different Chargers until you find a working one or to come to the conclusion, that its impossible. TL;DR: Can I Charge the 730-15ikb (4k) over USB-C while working? Which Charger is known to work? Thanks

Thus, we cannot charge using a normal USB. My question is, is there something I can buy that will work?  My portable battery has 3 output 1. Usb output2. 9-12v output3. 16-20v output  now the problem is that I know I need the 20v output, but I do not have any female jack that is the new usb 6pins.. what shall I do? buy?

You would need to find the correct cable and adapter that is already included with this laptop portable charger.

Hello all, just looking for some help. I am completely desperate at this point!
As the title states, I own the Lenovo Yoga 2 11 inch version (the one on this link http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-2-2-in-1-11-6-touch-screen-laptop-intel-pentium-4gb-memory-5...
Please note that this is the version with the Pentium N3520, not the i5-4210Y! This laptop was purchased at the end of March.

Anyway, the last time I used this laptop was on Thursday. I used it to quickly email something to the desktop I was using. I noticed it had around 10% battery left, so I planned on charging it later that day.

I got caught up with some other school work and did not touch my laptop until Friday morning. I pressed the power button, but it did not turn on. This was not surprising, since I figured the battery had run out since the previous day. I plugged it in but immediately noticed that something was wrong. The Power/Charging LED did not turn on. The laptop does not POST, and it does not beep! The fans do not start up, and the screen does not even flicker. It is exactly as if the battery is not there. The charger and the outlet work fine, as they have been tested with another Lenovo laptop.

I opened it up to see if anything was loose, but nothing appears wrong. I am seriously scared that I will have to return this laptop to Lenovo. I have very sensitive information regarding my engineering work, and some private files from a company. Plus, I have all my N... Read more

When I turned my laptop (Yoga 900) on this morning the battery was at about 10% so I plugged it in. When I did, I noticed that the battery wasn't charging and I kept getting a message that the USB drive wasn't recognized. I couldn't trouble shoot fast enough before the battery died. Now the battery is dead and it's not charging. Help!

A:Yoga 900 Battery Dead, Won't Charge

Hi NMB900 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would this be for a Yoga 900-13ISK Laptop ?

You could follow the Power Checkout guide (page 21-22) from the hardware manual .
Plug in the ac charger on the ac port (item 1 page 8) while it is off and observe the battery indicator .
Have it connected for 1-2 hours and see if there are changes on the battery led status (page 28) .
It should progress from blinking amber to blinkin white to solid white.

If there are no battery indicator (off) , it would be best to call in technical support for needed service.

Update us how it goes.

Regards
